Star player transfer value drops without any real reason (more than 50%)

I know people will say its realistic because the new season has begun, but that makes no sense when you think of World Cup's. Teams refuse to accept bids until after world cups all the time, to get higher valuations, same with players. There is 0 reason a players value should be affected by an arbitrary date change in the system.

After the carnage, he moved to Chelsea and - lo and behold - his value is six-fold. Why does the game undervalue every single player owned by human (some more than others)?
