In past Football Manager games, when watching a match in the 2D view, the ball would always be in view no matter where it was on the pitch. However, so far in this current game, the ball seems to disappear into the player and under their '2D circle' when play is ongoing (unless they are moving fast where the ball gets knocked out in front of them however when they catch up with the ball, it disappears again).
In the image below, the player currently on the ball is Martin Ødegaard however you can't tell as the ball has disappeared into his body and out of view.
