Last year I reported the exact same issue, and I'm very disappointed this hasn't been fixed. It's a small issue but completely ruins my game experience, and for this reason I will not buy the game this year and stick with the Demo if it continues to not be fix.
I like to sort out my players by star ratings. I then click the 'filters' option, which leaves me with the nice Main Squad - U23 - B team - U19 Team menu.
But after clicking on a player, this option goes away - so there's either no point to the "lock" button, or the FM team didn't even consider this bug reported a year ago.
