Description of issue
The role change done for any player during game from the "Pitch players" panel displayed at bottom isnt taking effect even after play breaks.
Following are the steps to repro the issue -
1. Start a match
2. In between the match change a player role -> say from Central Midfield on Support, make him DLP on support.
3. Wait for break in play.
4. Click on same player from "Pitch player" pannel. The old role is still being displayed.
WorkAround
------------------
1. Pause the game. Go to tactics page.
2. The new role is already displayed there correctly.
3. Switch back to game screen and now click on "Pitch Player" Pannel for the specific player.
4. The new role gets displayed correctly now.
So, looks like the changes done from "Pitch Players" Pannel aren't getting reflected (updated/refreshed), until one goes to Tactic page. Only then are the new values being reflected to the Pitch Players Pannel.

This is a feature that was working fine in FM22. Looks like it has got broken in FM23.
