Fingers crossed for you not having your DB modded too much and opening a support ticket when they ask.

I have the same issue, but a too heavy customized database for the team to analyze (plus i seemed to be alone with this issue). That said : i hoped you noticed last time given the playing time of my save, it was indeed created in 23.0.0 too. And the structure of a competition has indeed changed, the UCL going from a 3-pre-qualifying-rounds and group phase the 1st 2 years to one qualifying round then a championship phase after.

The crash did not occur when in the second format in 23.2.0, but occured like the OP when in 23.3.1 like the OP. So there may be an actual issue after all.

(i realize i insust, but FM22 is such a boring game compared to FM23. Terrible ME, or terrible tactics from me in the previous version)
