Club Information

Full name: FC Twente '65

Nickname: The Tukkers or The Reds

Founded: 1965

Ground: De Grolsch Veste Enschede (Capacity 24,000)

Chairman: Joop Munsterman

Manager: - Steve McClaren/ You

History

The club was formed in 1965 as a merger of two professional clubs Sportclub Enschede and the Enschedese Boys. Although the current club has never won the Dutch championship, SC Enschede did, in 1926.

In the 1990s, German coach Hans Meyer led Twente to the third slot in the Eredivisie of 1997 and to the third round of the UEFA Cup the next season. On 24 May 2001, Twente clinched the KNVB Cup, beating PSV in the final after being 3-1 down in the penalty shoot-out.

The season thereafter Twente crashed out of the cup against the teenagers of Ajax's second team, results in the league were poor and the hard core Twente fans Ultras Vak-P went on a rampage at the club's brand-new stadium out of frustration.

The club's mother corporation (FC Twente '65) was declared bankrupt in the 2002-03 season, almost leading to the end of the club's existence. The club survived and made it to another KNVB Cup final in 2004 and struck back with a fantastic Eredivisie season in 2006-07. In the season 2007-08, FC Twente placed fourth and won the play-offs for a ticket to the Champions League Qualifiers by defeating Ajax in the play-off finals. Steve McClaren took over at the end of that season after failing to reach the Euro Championships.

On 1 August 2008, unseeded Twente entered the draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifying stage, being drawn against seeded Arsenal. The two legs were played at home on 13 August and away on 27 August 2008. Twente lost 6-0 on aggregate, resulting in their elimination from the Champions League and subsequent entry of the UEFA Cup first round.

Fan-base

The fans are very passionate and as stated above, rioted after a loss to Ajax's reserves in the domestic cup. Along with Liverpool and Celtic, the song You'll Never Walk Alone is sung loudly before every game.

Areas To Improve

I think a new Goalie is needed, Boschker is getting on and with Mihaylov only on loan, a backup who can take over is needed.

Perhaps a back-up right back is needed. A young player who can step in for the future is what to look for.

A centre mid is a sure-in, Elia left and he was key so unless you're playing on 9.3, you'll need a centre mid to start.

A young striker could be brought in, but not a nessecity, but once Arnautovic is back from Inter on loan you'll be fine.

I wanted to do a save after seeing the Steve McClaren interview on Football Focus.

You're going to have to sell before you buy, as a budget is non existent.
