Features - gone but not forgotten!

with the new game coming out soon i, while playing this game got to thinking what'd been removed from before

1. playing ten men - in 01/02 (didn't play the rest before fm07) you were not forced to make a sub so would have the choice of playing with ten men. Somnething i like because it gives the players a good test (i remember tony adams doing it when he was Wycombe manager)

2. you could see a players non-competitive fixtures over previous seasons. Always useful.

3. you could also see if a player had a minimum release fee. another very useful loophole for signing players.

4. you could scout clubs. i cannot see for the life of me why this was removed. Do you not think the champions league teams will be sending scouts to the other clubs from now till the end of the groups? Of Course! So do I.

5. you could discipline a player at anytime - yes annoying when all you would do was fine him 2 weeks wages when he didn't want to leave the club but nowadays if a player gets a 5.3 rtating i want to warn him but can't. this restricts a managers own personal style of managment.

I can't think of any others but can someone tell me if there are more (which i'm sure there are ) and why these and such others were removed.

whenever i used to give the players the hairdryer treatment, one of them would inevitably reveal how furious i was to the press, and i always used to fine them for 'no reason' or 'unprofessional behaviour' or something afterwards and every time they would quietly accept their fine

Other fixture's scores across the bottom of the screen when running a match (yes, I know you can have a box with it now, but it's not the same).

Complain about referees

Managers are not technically allowed to these days, although I agree there should be more options to complain about things if you want to risk a telling off.

My top one would be letting us scout a single club. Plus, in the same area, I'd like to be able to request to scout a country, or at least let Welsh clubs scout England (always frustrated me no end when Bangor City could scout Wales but not England).

Not in the Premier League they're not, but let me tell you Gary Ablett told CountyWorld exactly what he thought of that ref at Elland Road on saturday.

Moaning to the press isn't the same as making a formal complaint to the FA, which is what the old feature replicated.

I still miss the way player search used to work. You selected the criteria and said that it must much only a number of them. Great way to search for players since no player has every stat over 15.

Another thing i miss is the contract information when looking at national squads. They broke this when they switched the skin in FM05 and never fixed it.

they should really bring back the scout the whole club at once button, was really useful and time saving, please bring back, always wondered why they took that out!

A time saver, highlight the player at the top the list, hold shift and highlight the player at the bottom of the list, the whole list becomes highlighted and you have the option to scout all of them, rather than go through each individual player.

This.

You could pick a selection of attributes like you can now, eg Pace>15 Acceleration>15 Finishing>15, and then choose how many of those criterea had to be matched. Made player searches a lot easier.

Bring this back SI! Please :)

This one is still in there, thankfully.

I didn't actually elaborate. On the search page if you went to contract you would then see the minimum fee and could see what players have them rather than now where you have to go to every single player just to check.

Can't you simply untick the filters now?

You can untick, but whereas you might have to do this for 10 different attributes now, you could just stipulate that only 7 or 8 of the attributes had to be matched.

I too would love this back

Oh yeah i really miss that feature especially since i use masked attributes hopefully they'll bring in back

number five i agree with - i would like that back, not just because i would like to force players out but because, like you said, i can fine players for things that i see as unnacceptable, say a poor performance or morale disruption (not getting on with another player etc)

Request matches be moved

Don't really understand why this was removed :(

Recently I've had 3 games that have taken place during International weeks. When it first happened it was alright because the match wasn't that important. But then I had two in a row (an important cup match and a crucial Premier League match). Fortunately I won the games but IRL this never would have been allowed to happen and they would have been rescheduled if the button was still there.

He was shocking wasn't he? :D

It's not often both sets of fans think that the referee is an onanist! I thought he was one of the worst referees I've ever seen, even if we (Leeds) did probably get the better of his poor decisions overall.

Oh yes. This. I remember that, and I too have missed that since it was removed. Even better, I wish it was visible on the "Views" section of the Player Search screen (under Contract view, perhaps? So that way you could see contract length, wage, value, and minimum fee clause all at once), so that you could compare them at a glance and spot your own bargains as you scrolled through a list of players.

The only countries where the minimum fee clause are an issue are Brazil and Spain, where they are mandatory, all other nations don't have such rules so the AI doesn't use it. But it would be nice to see a clauses view in the search screen.

What Hershie probably meant was to officialy complain to the FA about the ref's shocking display, which I did every time three card darkened my doorstep, not the complaining to the media bit which is what is banned.

Are you sure about this? I might just be imagining things, but I am almost certain I have seen players given new contracts with minimum fees outside of Brazil or Spain.

But yes, either way we seem to agree that being able to see minimum fee clauses on the search screen would be good.

I would like that, I once had a Barcelona team that was too good, we won every game and it was too easy to be fun so I wanted to play games with only 10 players.

I would like to see the old training from FM05 I think, where you did drills like pig in the middle, crosses, defending set pieces, training match etc. It was flawed but I would like to see it reinstated somehow in conjunction with the current sliders system.

Yeah another big one i forgot. Used to be really good because you could actually specify each different attribute.

Complain about referees

Request matches be moved

Send players to surgery

I think some of them have been taken out to protect the user against his own stupidity, like being able to play with ten men. I'm sure many more users will at times forget to make a substitution if they are not forced to. Same with unrealistic fines, yet I'd appreciate if the possibility to fine would be highlighted more regularly like it is after red cards.

Probably more people will complain if those were re-introduced.

Some things are actually still in, like the release fees, the non-competitive fixtures (though you have to click on each year in the player history to see them now) or the possibility to complain about refs (via the press conferences who trigger the same reactions to your answers as the complain option did before - just again the question only comes in cases of doubt to protect the user). Sending players to a specialist is still there and probably the same as surgery.

Request matches to be moved never worked, so I guess this is why it was removed.

So what remains? Scouting clubs. Yes, would like to see it back, along with the manager points.

I would also like to see it as an option in the the "player search" so you could select to view players with release clauses or release clauses under a certain value etc

Regarding the Complains about referees, I remember a funny thing happening to me while playing CM01/02. I was playing with a friend of mine. I was Real Madrid, he was Barcelona if I remember correctly.

After a derby, we were both angry with the referee and we complained about it. The answer was stunning, and it was something like "The Football Association analyzed your complaint, and the referee was dismissed" .

If I look into my computer, maybe I'll find the print screen made then.
