After an extended break over Christmas, my FM2007 update is back with my best season ever!

UEFA Cup: Champions!</A>

Finally, in my 4th season in Serie A, and with the squad not getting any younger, I did it, Serie A Champions! Also managed to set new club records for most games unbeaten (19) and most games without conceeding (7).

Whilst the 7 point buffer to 2nd place Milan seems a lot, it is quite flattering, with 3 games to go I was trailing Milan by one point, but 3 wins in the last 3 games (the last one against Milan) as opposed to 1 point from Milans last 3 games gave me the championship.

Euro Cup Final

The EURO Cup campaign went surprisingly smoothly, after topping a very weak group, I brushed aside Sporting CP, Schalke, AZ and Deportivo, before a very close final against Aston Villa, which I managed to win with a late goal.

The team that got me there

I've gone from 2 to 3 Italians in my starting 11 (3 in my starting 18), however its still very much a multi-national squad.

A quite season for the national team, managed another competitive win against Georgia, with a record 3-0 margin, and managed a 1-1 draw against Ireland... not many other highlights, but impressed that the national side seems to be getting better each year and slowly climbing up the rankings chart.

Yet to see a home grown player make the national side, but with the youth facilities now at the maximum, heres hoping...

CL: 1st Knockout Round

Italian Cup: Winners!</A>

After wining the league last season, and with a few good signings in the off season, my focus was less on the league and more on europe and the CL, which I thought I was a good chance of taking out... unfortunatly it was not to be. After finishing 2nd to Real Madrid (who ended up winning the final 4-0), I again lost in the 1st knockout round, this time on penalties to FC Bayern after two 0-0 draws.

In the Serie A, a very slow start to the season, but then after some more big signings, ($107M total transfer spending for the season), I managed to climb into 2nd, but Milan were too good, running away with 83 points, which is a record in my game.

As usual, finances are no longer a worry, with them sitting around the $50M mark, and San Marino being the 14th richest club in the world, worth around $300M (AUD).

New Record - Domestic Team

Most Games Without Conceding: 10 - 14.2.2015 to 29.3.2015

Highest Transfer Fee Paid: $27.5M (AUD) - Ismael Aissati from Roma - 2.1.2015

Total Transfer Income: $83M (AUD)

2014/15 International Update - Marky Mark!

World Rankings

June 2012: 102

June 2013: 86

June 2014: 73

Feb 2015: 57 (New Record!)

June 2015: 65

Once again, nothing spectacular acheived by the national side, but they are slowly climbing up the rankings chart, even managing to break into the top 60 ever so briefly.

In the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, I again finished 5th (out of 7), however this time managing 3 wins, and a total of 11 points.

However, the biggest news to come out of the past year was that one of my youth players was deemed to be on of the best players of his generation, and he was San Marenese!

Mario Moroni - San Marino's only hope!

Whilst he doesnt look anything special at the moment, I'll definatly keep tabs on him and wait to see if he develops, hopefully he's a late bloomer

New Records - International Team

Worst Discipline: Luca Del Prete - 3 yellow cards / 1 red card

All-Time Top Goalscorer: Giangiacomo Morganti - 13 (60 caps)

Just noticed this challenge and thought i would give it a go. Bought in a couple of players on small tranfers and bosmans. Including an 34 year old defender called fresi. He is immense, now meaning we have shipped the least amount of goals in the league. Aragao is playing brilliantly up front, scoring a fair few but the other strikers need to become a little more prolific for my liking icon_wink.gif Currently sitting top of the table after 16 games, a couple of points clear.

CL: Champions, 2-0 v Man United

Italian Cup: Champions, 3:2 (Aggregate) v Milan

Obviously a very good season for San Marino, winning the Serie A by a fair margin, beating Milan in the Italian Cup, and the highlight, outplaying Man United in the CL final for a historic 2-0 win, which seasled the treble. The only slight blemish was the 1-0 loss in the Italian Super Cup Final at the start of the season (also against Milan).

Finances are better than ever, hitting a high of $169M, and has propelled the club up to the 9th richest club in the world, with a net worth of $480M.

2015 / 16 Player Awards

Almir

2nd Serie A Young Player of the Year

1st Serie A Foreign Player of the Year

1st Serie A Defender of the Year

Serie A Team of the Year (starting XI)

Champions League Dream Team (starting XI)

Emanuele De Rosa

1st Serie A Italian Player of the Year

Serie A Team of the Year (substitute)

And, as expected, I took out the manager of the year, although only getting 3 of my players recognised (my most valuable player - $83M and star striker missed out) individually in what was a star struck team was a little disapointing.

New Records - Domestic Team

Most Games Without Losing: 26 - 20.1.2006 to 26.4.2016

June 2014: 73

Feb 2015: 57 (Highest Ranking)

June 2015: 65

June 2016: 65

Again, a not spectacular season for San Marino, finishing at exactly the same ranking as the same time last season, but still low of the peak ranking of 57 in the world.

However, the one hope I have is that at 17, my star prospect, Mario Moroni, has already earnt himself 6 caps and a spot in the national team starting 11, and is really looking promising (remembering that he is only 17!)

Mario Moroni - San Marino's Only Hope!

Whilst I am starting to realise that San Marino will probably never be able to come close to qualifying for a competition, as even my best current national players would struggle to make the Serie A U21 team, I might just continue this for a few more seasons, maybe until our friend Mario hits his early 20's, to see if he, and maybe a few more prospects from my youth academy, can show the others in the national side how to play football!

WOW! I have already done this challenge on FM08, even though i had no idea this thread existed!

Those of you who think it is impossible to qualify for international tournaments, you are wrong!

It is the year 2023, and the 19th (icon_cool.gif) best team in the world have qualified for 2 of the last 3 tournaments! The highlight being reaching the knockout round of the World Cup in 2018! A 3-0 defeat to Spain was an inevitable start to the Group Stage, but a pair of 1-1 draws with Tunisia and Japan were enough to see the team through on goal difference! (Tunisia and Japan both lost 4-0 to Spain and drew with each other) Star striker Mario was the hero in both games, and has now extended his goal record to 21 goals in 68 caps!

The biggest moment of these players career was largely a disapointment, after they were partnered with Chile in the knockout round. A 4-1 defeat was not the dream result they hoped for, and only the captain Giuseppe Selva ( who is also pretty good, a 6 star potential Serie A centre back!) had any memories to take from the game, his headed goal on 67 mins was merely a consolation for San Marinese fans. The few optimistic enough to book their hotel until after the Group Stages were headed home full of pride in their country.

Now they sit third in the 2024 Euro qualifiers, with the last match at home to 2nd placed Greece. A win will guarantee qualification, any other result will condemn them to 3rd, regretting only a 0-0 draw at home to Lithuania in an otherwise brilliant campaign.

So forget qualifiying for a tournament, I reckon in about 20-30 years we can win one!!
