Anyone ever bought chevanton in the first season when things are tight?? Got him for celtic in an spl save game and he ripped the league apart with his goals, didnt think he wouuld cut it in la liga but got him anyway as back up but hes now my first choice ahead of zigic to partner villa....

I guess decent enough move as the third choice striker. If you play a 4-2-3-1 you hardly use him anyway.

As for my season half way through first season. Doing pretty ok at 4th, although Villareal and Atletico right behind me. Not much between the 3 teams.

First 6 months my defence was fine, then i started struggling big time-have even conceded 3 goals in a match several times. I used the extra fund plus sold Dealbert to sign Gamberini. Hoping he will stabilize things at the back.

Sold Manele and signed Kallstrom to boost my midfield. I will face quite a battle the next 5 months to get a CL slot.

I play a 4-4-2 with 2 att wingers..

Im 13 games into the first season,W 11 D 1 L 1 sitting 1st,real are 5 points behind with a game in hand.. Barca are 20 points behind with 2 games in hand, they have drawn 8 out of 11 lol..

Villa started strong scoring 14 in 8 now hes got 21 in 19!! zigic has 16 in 8 though i bring him on as a sub a lot and chevanton has 9 in 15..

Spent most of my money on gokhan inler(15mil)fans love him already but they are annoyed cos i sold baraja to deportivo for 500k,i thought he was getting on a bit..

Just finished my 4th season with Valencia and finally won the League.

I also won my first Copa del Rey the same season. In the CHL Barcelona proved to be too good a beated my in the quarter finals.

For the 5t h season I've bought: Busquets, M. Sakho, G. Ochoa og L. Prieto(regen) for a total of 54m£

My starting line-up now is this:

2wdym90.png

The bench: Mora, Adrián, Vicente, Pedro Leon, Banega, Sunny, Dealbert

David Villa is now 31, but still scores goals for fun. It's quite unrealistic, he scores nearly all my goals, but I'n not complaining.. This is the sickest I've ever seen in a FM game!

I'm managing a different team, but I was wonder if anyone has played Villa as an AMC Inside Forward on Attack duty? How does he perform in this position, does he still score alot? What's his passing attribute by the way?

I have never played him in anything but the ST/FC position - he is just too prolific there!

In my game his passing stat is 15.

He was injured for part of my season but he still has 47 goals in 36 apprerances in all competitons.

I keep fiddling about with his instructions. He is always a lone striker as I am currently using a 4-2-3-1 asymmetric formation and is on an attack duty as a complete forward. I do drill crosses in though as his weakest point is his heading/jumping.

For me he gets loads of chances as a complete forward with his pace and movement but his finishing really annoys me, his one on one skills are awful, he maybe scores one in 4 of the one on one chances he gets. Not to mention so far he's missed 2 out of 3 penalties with a penalty taking rating of 20....

Haha. No offence but I find it a bit funny that you're actually moaning about the widely recognized BEST striker in the whole FM10 database... Perhaps only Torres and Ibra can equal him... Legendary hehe ;)

I hope he improves for me then, I'm not sure what can be done tactically to improve that side of things, everything goes well until the finishing when he either does a fantastic impression of a passback or fails to get his shot in. He still has about a goal a game after 15 games or so which is good but he should score more.

Fair point hehe. I'm playing as Man City and Tevez is an amazing lone striker for me. But Tevez also performs really well in AMC, so I'm wondering if I sign Villa I can use him as the lone striker and drop Tevez to AMC. I just want to know I can swap them around in games I need to make a change or if I get injuries :)

I think far too detailed about my FM saves...

Haha it's ok I think I do the same, fortunately being Valencia I don't have many other options at this point. I pray he doesn't get injured for me considering he still guarantees at least 30 a season even if he played rubbish every game.

I will hopefully be starting a Valencia save when I get back from fishing over the weekend.

Is it best to play a 4-5-1 or a 4-4-1-1 with Villa up front?

Have any of you tried Dzeko and Villa up front in a 4-4-2, could Silva play as a CM but set and an adv playmaker? with a bob to box mid next to him?

Just thinking of ways to get Villa, Silva and Mata involved in a 4-4-2.

Can Mata/Silva play as a MR?

the--dud: Yeah, Mata has been good for me so far and Joaquin unexpectedly good. Vicente is useful but injured most of the time, Otamendi should do well at CB for me and Vilar is good in goal but the others just have the job of giving it to the players with some ability.

End of Season 1 Update

I realise that this has been a while in coming but I have been a bit busy with other things and I don't tend to play my games as quick as some on here.

Well my first attempt with Valencia ended badly as I was sacked. This time round I set my targets as a realistic Continental qualification aim. I took my time in pre-season and sent a lot of scouts to all the major countries , and some of the minor ones as well! They managed to find some players I hadn't even heard of before.

valenciacfsad2.png

As you can see I still spent a lot of money in the first window. All of my deals were done over 24 months. I was fairly happy with all of my signings. The only one I regret to an extent was Pandev from Lazio for £10m as I didn't give him enough games to justify his price tag.

ligabbvauo.png

The league went quite well. We were 2nd/3rd for most of the season and only let ourselves down towards the end of the season.

valenciacfsad.png

David Villa was the sand out performer, surprise-surprise! Really happy with how most of them played. Michel did really well and I am hopeful he will develop into a good 1st team player. I was dissapointed with Banega though and will be looking to loan him out next season.

7davidvilla.png

He really is just the best striker in the game. I wouldn't swap him for any other player.

Next Season

I have already agreed to sign Giovinco and Jovetic for the second season. I plan to offload quite a few players that I consider to be dead wood. I would like to bring in a new goalkeeper and at least one central midfielder.

Hi all,

Got a little bored of my Man Utd save and just started a Valencia save as i always like them from spain. i asked the board to increase my wage budget and they agreed and then edited my budgets to give me £20m to spend. i have spent £48m although the deals for Dzeko and Veloso were all over 48 months so i still have a balance of £16m. below is a screenshot of the transfers i made:

ValenciaCFSAD.png

This is a screenshot now of my current squad (apart from keepers that are the orig 2):

ValenciaCFSAD-2.png

i am thinking of playing the following but would welcome any advice

Cesar

Castro Diakhate Marchena Mathieu

Albelba

Veloso Silva

Joaquin Mata

Villa

i plan on playing a rigid, control system with good creative freedom and roaming set also.

will use villa in an advanced forward rold with silva as an advanced playmaker.

if anyone has any suggestions or advice then i would welcome it

Thanks

I've gone all out with a brave strategy for Valencia. Given there is not much money to start, my first season is purely about maintaining my top 4 position whilst generating money.

My first few transfers out are as follows:

DR - Bruno - £4.5m

DL - Asier Del Horno - £2.5m

DMC - Ever Banega - £10m (yes, he's great I know, but I can't look at his ugly mug any longer!!!)

AMC - Nacho Gonzalez - £2m

AMR - Pablo Hernandez - £7.5m

FC - Miku - £2.5m

Players In:

GK - Areola - £750k

DC - Nicolas Otamendi - £2.5m (The new Ayala!)

I still don't have much of a budget, as several of the deals are loan to buy, but I should turn a good profit and be able to strengthen properly next summer.

I am also contemplating selling Alexis, and playing Otamendi, as I don't believe Alexis will have a long-term future here.

I would also have offloaded Baraja, but on the second day he got a virus keeping him out for 9 months (!) which he is seeing a specialist for. Odd...

My long-term vision for the team is to replace the defence and central midfield, whilst keeping the attacking core of Silva, Villa, Mata & Joaquin in place.

So finally I did what Héctor Cúper failed to do: Win the Champions League. Like his team I got to the final with a clever defense and fast attack.

28l7zwn.png

Of course it was David Villa who secured the glory, the 33 year-old man just won his 6th consecutive golden booth!

The league was for the 2nd time won by me, last time was 2 years ago, this year Real Madrid and FC Barcelona didn't really give me much competition.

My starting line-up is still as seen on the 4th post on this page. I've already bought Sergio Canales from Barcelona on a free transfer to add depth, and to keep things spanish which I like :)

I will be looking to finally buy Azpilicueta, but unfortunately Barcelona does not seem keen to sell.

Also there will be a big gab to be filled when David Villa is too old, right now I have Adrián as the back-up, but I don't think he's cut for it, maybe I'll have to find a regen.

All in all one of my best FM seasons ever :)

Well I am now just starting the second season so here is an update on how things went in the first season....

Obviously the financial situation was a good challenge in the first season and the aim was to keep hold of the star names and get back in the Champions League. Real Madrid unsettled Mata who wanted to leave but I kept him and eventually he even signed a new contract halfway through the year. As for my transfers in the first season I signed Vilar on a free to be my first choice keeper with Moya second choice. Following that I got Gustavo Cabral as a decent backup centre back for 2.3m and the obligatory Otamendi for 6m. The fullbacks are fairly useful so I kept them the same while in midfield I did a straight swap with Atletico, Camacho for Pablo which given that Camacho has a lot of room for improvement on my game seems a good deal. Also I signed Bernardo for 6.5m and Verratti for not a lot and a couple of young midfielders, Edu Ramos and Canales. Most other guys got shipped out on loan or permanantly so at the end of all that the squad for the season looked like this....

GKs: Vilar, Moya

DFs: Marchena, Alexis, Otamendi, Cabral, Dealbert, Bruno, Miguel, Mathieu, Del Horno

MFs: Banega, Camacho, Bernardo, Verratti, Joaquin, Silva, Vicente, Ramos, Canales, Mata

FWs: Villa

Only having Villa as a striker was a worry with only Mata capable of backup but there wasn't much choice in the matter. Anyway I played most of the season with a 4-4-1-1 formation with attacking fullbacks, 2 wingers, 2 deep lying playmakers, an attacking midfielder and Villa as an advanced striker rather than complete. Obviously things changed around at times depending on the situation. We started the season ok, coasting past Anorthosis 4-1 on aggregate in the Europa League qualifier. We beat Sevilla 2-1 at home in the first league game where we were fairly lucky and didn't look much of a team early in the season with only 2 points from our next 3 league games including a home defeat to Barca 2-1 though a draw at Atletico wasn't too bad. Then we went on a good run in all competitons until defeat to Getafe away to which we responded with an 8-2 demolishing of PAOK in Europe. Then came a 4-1 win over Real at home and their first defeat of the season in any competition, indeed they only had one draw. We played counter attack which worked perfectly as they seemed restricted to long shots but then came a stupid game, we were 4-1 up away to Malaga and managed to lose 5-4 as Baha scored 4 goals having had a 1000 minute barren spell and Vilar scored a 93rd minute own goal, an annoying match if ever there was one. Fortunately it was just a blip as we continued our good run although keeping clean sheets was a problem. Come Christmas and the break we were 5th with surprise packages Bilbao and particularly Almeria ahead of us along with the usual two. In January we had 3 consecutive matches against Bilbao where we progressed in the cup with a second string side quite impressively and with the rested first choice players smashed them 6-2 at the Mestalla. Our good run was ended by Tenerife at home when we had 4 clear cut chances to their one and lost 2-1. In Europe we beat PSV 4-4 on away goals in the last 32 and then beat Aston Villa also 4-4 on away goals with a late wonderstrike from Villa after a poor second leg performance at home. Our league form picked up again as we moved past the now struggling Bilbao and Almeria to 3rd but a 2-0 defeat in the Nou Camp and a 3-0 in the Bernabeu showed we had a long way to go yet. We beat Racing easily to get to the Cup Final against Real and drew Chelsea in Europe and got a good 1-1 draw away where they had a lot of pressure without any clear chances while Villa took our clear chance and had one disallowed for what looked a wrong offside call. At home however we produced maybe our worst game of the year as the defenders went AWOL and we lost 4-0, a little harsh on us probably but anyway we were out in the Quarter Finals and it was a grudge against Chelsea to remember for the future. It seemed we were running out of steam as the small squad then lost at home 2-0 to Getafe as they did a double over us and we looked totally inept with no forward play at all. I tried to rest some key players away at Sporting who were 18th in the table but againwe were losing and I brought on Mata and Silva and the latter scored a great goal to rescue a draw. We were in danger of throwing away our Champions League spot with Almeria still close and in form Atletico and Sevilla moving up. Fortunately our exit from Europe meant one game a week again and were able to take 13 points from our final 5 league matches to scure 3rd with 77 points. Barca won the league on 92 on head to head record with Real who had led by about 10 points at one stage and thrown it away in a flurry of sendings off resulting in suspensions for many of their players. A memorable game was Reals 6-5 win over Barca early in the season. Barca reached the Champions League final were they were beaten 4-1 by Liverpool who played most of the game with 10 men but fortunately for them Torres played like 5 men scoring 4 goals.

Come the Spanish Cup final we were more rested but fell behind earlyish after Vilars throw to Mathieu was horribly miscontrolled allowing Ronaldo in for a simple finish in an annoyingly soft goal. We scrambled level however when a corner was not cleared and Raul deflected a shot into his own net for an own goal, Cabral then stupidly gave away a penalty which Kaka converted as Real went in 2-1 up at halftime but deservedly so. We went on the attack in the second half and really should have got the equaliser after hitting the post and Villa missed clear cut chances with Casillas finishing as man of the match.

Anyway the season overall was good with Villa bagging a silly 55 goals, about half of the teams total. Given the fact that we only had a balance of 22m I was surprised to have a budget of 42m for the summer. I signed Azpilicueta for 7.5m and Sakho for 12.5 to sort out the defence with Alfaro and Pedro Leon giving us more of a squad in attack. Also signed Macheda and Buonanotte on loan while Perotti unfortunately joined Inter and not us for 4.2m. I still needed quality backup to Villa so got Soldado for 15m and may go to 2 upfront. Our season started well with 2 wins in the league and now we have Liverpool in the Champions League.

Finished first season 3rd. Now midway through the second season sitting pretty at number 1. Barca are 6 points behind at 2, while Madrid 10 points.

Key has been consistency-like the Valencia of Benitez. I have kept most of the original players however made some very effective signings in both first and second seasons who have contributed heavily to my teams performance.

Gamberini for Dealbert, Palombo for Albelda, Ignacio Camacho for Baraja, Cesar Azpilicueta for Bruno, Oscar Cardozo for Zigic, Emanuelson for Del Horno.

Guys i strongly recommend Oscar Cardozo if you are looking for a new striker. He has excellent stats-complete striker and cheaper than the likes of Soldado and Gignac. In my team he is challenging Villa for goals believe it or not.

Ive actually just signed Cardozo in jan of the first season. How would i get the best out of him and villa as a partnership as so far when i play them together one is amazing and the other performs abysmally. They've only had 4 games together mind you! Up until the transfer window I'd been playing Villa uptop by himself as a lone striker and he was destroying teams but im wary of becoming a one man team

Link to post

You are absolutely right about them playing together Superjeeps. I rarely play them together unless i am chasing the game or a goal or two down. I rotate both strikers with Villa starting 65-70% of the times. Cardozo is just superb, he can come off the bench with 10 minutes left and score. Play him as a lone target man, allow him to shoot from distance, take freekicks and be in position to flick on from corners and setpieces. He ll be getting you plenty of goals.

I am keen to boost my DM area? Any suggestions? How is this guy called Annan-good enough to play at Valencia. My scouts say he will be the 3rd best DM if he joins. They also recommended Makelele, but i am not prepared to pay 1.5 Mill Pounds for a 36 year old.

Albelda? For the first season anyway

Link to post

So I just started a Los Che game after remembering how much I enjoyed playing with them in 09.

I think the squad is already pretty strong so don't need too many changes.

I set the goal for Continental Qualification. I like setting my goals lower, then increasing them as I build the team over the years. So I don't have much money, and the board won't give me any more for wages like it seems to for everyone else. With a couple of sales I got up to 12M as my budget.

I brought in Otamendi and I'm in the process of bringing in Capoue. Then I will try and snag a cheap young striker as backup for my remaining 1M. I also have Jadson coming in January.

Im slightly confused, as a big fan of Valencia I am aware that they are still in huge financial trouble,

In the jan/summer transfer windows they will have to make roughly 50 million from player sales, they just have to.

so when people on here are touting receiving massive transfer budgets and recieving millions from the board, it just doesnt seem realistic to me,

Surely a challenge would be having to sell all the big names and re-build Valencia???

but it seems to me the game portrays the club as relativly stable.... :(

You dont have to sell the big names at all tbh.

The challenge is trying to get the to win the Champions League :)

1000th post wahey!!!
