NepentheZ
Smylie has just scored his 3,000th (and 3,001st) goals. Guess who against, in an iconic match? None other than Dungiven. You literally couldn't write a script like that. So there it is ladies and gents. And believe me or not, that is his 3,000 career goal. He is now just 63 away from the next target. And thats 3,000 goals for Knockbreda. If he carries on the way he's started the season, I see no reason why he won't reach that target.

NepentheZ
Thanks guys Just to let you know, Smylie is just 35 goals away from 3,000 club goals. He's bagged 41 goals in 31 (7) games this season, and has been in sensational form. I'm hoping for a 60+ season this season, and then he can pick up the last few goals next season, if he doesn't retire.

santy001
One day I'll have to see Keirrison out until the end of his days, obviously he'll get no where near to Smylie but he still has a few years in him, just a matter of pulling him back up but I will be attempting this on FM10 as well. Incredibly unlikely I'll get another this year, especially in the premiership. I may go to Iceland or Northern Ireland myself just to see if I can get a really prolific goalscorer there. Only shame is you never got to be N.I manager, Keirrison benefitted so much more with me being the manager and I'm sure it would have been the same for Smylie with him probably bagging another 90 goals or so comfortably under your guidance lol. NepentheZ
yeah, it would have been great if I could have become the N. Ireland manager. Just into the new season now (Updates will come tomorrow, I'm in Orlando Airport right now waiting for my flight ) - and Smylie still not said he's retiring. If what someone above said is true (which is also true to my own knowledge of FM) - then he has this season, and the season in which he says he is retiring. Thats at least 2 more seasons with the guy. That'll make him 39 when he retires. And I'll even try to convince him to stay on. Now the goals are done for him, I'm going to have to move him into a midfield role to still be effective, because he's just not quick enough up top anymore. santy001
I've been able to keep players going well beyond 40 in the last couple of years with regular appearances. It's only once they start to fall into disuse and you don't renew their contract often they begin to retire. I remember on FM08 still having Gary Neville at 42 in the England team, and he was still my right back for Stoke up until he was 48. I've just started an FM10 save with Killymoon Rangers, was tempted to go with Knockbreda since they're worth the most and have the biggest ground in the league, but went with Killymoon who had a good ground capacity and lesser expectations. kroblues
Haha, my assistant sends me a message saying Svec is past his best, and what happens in the next game? santy001
Does anyone else find that after having done this challenge, all other strikes begin to seem substandard? I had to buy Keirrison obviously because of how he did last time, and he's still hitting in 30-40 a season, but its still there in the forefront of my mind "he's not as good as he used to be" lol. If there was ever a player capable of doing this though, Ronaldo from Corinthians starting a fresh at age 17 would do it for fun with his 20 finishing 20 composure. 50 goals in 2 seasons in the premiership, he could have scored more but had such good staff stats I wanted him as assistant manager straight away lol. markymarky
wow, I didn't realise that getting to the 1,000 in any version of the game was relatively rare. I really have to recover my old hard drive and dig out my FM06 Stefano Corrado screenshots; 20 glorious years at AC Milan in which he scored 969 club goals and 160 international goals (those figures - burned onto my mind). Made extra special (I'm going to insist) by having fairly prolific strike partners throughout that time too. A couple of seasons, in fact, where he didn't even make top goalscorer. ah dear, looks like I had inaccurate figures burned onto my mind. Finally recovering my old hard drive and eagerly counting up the figures, it seems that including international goals Corrado here had just 856 career goals. Time to walk away in shame. kroblues
Not a brilliant year for Svec this time, as he's starting to drop off the pace somewhat due to him being in the less prolific left striker position. He still scored 42 goals in 61 appearances, which by anyone's (except maybe Smylie ) standards is a good scoring rate. He probably has 3 or 4 more seasons in him at this point, so 1200 goals is probably the best I can hope for from him. This was also the first full season he has played in where he didn't score more than one per league game. He finished with over 2 a game, scoring 143 goals in just 65 appearances. Not Smylie-esque, but that'll do me He broke his own record for league goals in a season, getting 71 as we again won the league at a canter, despite a truly evil April in which we played 13 league games plus various cup games. His international career is going fairly well too, and he scored another 4 in his 7 appearances for Northern Ireland Paul Spence summary so far (Age 21) Appearances: 285 Goals: 426 Int'l Caps: 29 Int'l Goals: 13 Total Goals: 439 Well on his way to the 500 mark now. kroblues
Svec is continuing to decline, although he managed to keep up a decent rate of goalscoring despite the fact his ability is dropping like a stone. He hit 34 goals in 57 appearances, which pushed him over 1,100 goals, so 1,200 is still very possible if he has around 3 seasons left in him, although it will be a bit of a limp to the finish. Svec Profile Svec Season 1: 8 goals Svec Season 2:78 goals Svec Season 3: 158 goals Svec Season 4: 248 goals Svec Season 5: 313 goals Svec Season 6: 346 goals Svec Season 7: 443 goals Svec Season 8 : 551 goals Svec Season 9 : 675 goals Svec Season 10 : 770 goals Svec Season 11 : 857 goals Svec Season 12 : 964 goals Svec Season 13 : 1031 goals Svec Season 14 : 1073 goals Svec Season 15 : 1104 goals Svec Summary: Appearances: 828 Goals: 1104 Int'l Caps: 3 Int'l Goals: 0 Svec as he was when he reached 1000: http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w180/kroblues/Svec1000.jpg Paul Spence had what could only be described as a truly ridiculous season. He smashed his previous best, set last season, of 143, by over 30 goals, finishing with 176 goals in 67 appearances. Not quite the 3-per-game ratio he was threatening for a large proportion of the season, but still absolutely phenomenal scoring from the 23 year old. He also smashed his own record for league goals in a season, scoring 81 this time in one less game than his previous record of 71 goals. This meant that Spence, on his own, managed to outscore every other team in the league except for Glentoran. As promised, here is a screenshot of Spence at the end of this season, as he had flown past 500 goals, and with a few more seasons like this 2,000 isn't beyond the realms of possibility. Perhaps his finest moment was scoring the winner in our 1-0 Champions League Final win over Lyon, or the 4 he scored in a 5-1 win over Juventus in the quarter final. A fantastic year for this product of my youth system, and hopefully we will be able to keep hold of him for his entire career. Paul Spence summary so far (Age 23) Appearances: 352 Goals: 604 Int'l Caps: 35 Int'l Goals: 18 Total Goals: 622 A full run down of his career thus far will be in the update when/if he reaches 1,000.
