santy001
I suppose the biggest shame about Smylie's career is that you weren't the NI boss. I think it's safe to say he'd have far more caps and goals. Keirrison even at his peak and a goalscoring menace only had about 20 caps before I took over at Brazil with around as many goals to his name. I've got Keirrison to the 1990 ish mark. He too still isn't showing any signs of retiring, and this season I decided to go crazy since I just want to get Keirrison there and spent £480m on the absolute best players who are 22 - 25 to get the most out of Keirrison. I think 1500 appearances should be the aim more now than an amount of goals. Obviously you can't rest him too much otherwise he will just call it a day so it'll be a hard balancing act. NepentheZ
Yeah, santy, thats the problem. On one hand, I now need to play my best players, because the competition in N. Ireland is getting stronger. On the other hand, if I want smylie to carry on setting records that will most likely never be broken, I'm going to have to keep playing him. I don't want to bring him on as a sub every game, because he won't score as many, and I don't want to start him every game, because he will become exaughisted and play poorly. hamilton162
He should make it in the next 2 years, it'll be 3 before he gets the 1000 FCUM goals though. I want him to make the 1000 club goals ASAP, reason being i'm then going to switch my son (Marc Beckford) and Brennan around so that Brennan's in the AMC role and Marc in the ST role (I play a 4-4-1-1 formation btw). The reason behind this is that my son's scoring record at international record is nothing short of exceptional, currently 90 goals in 65 games, and i reckon he can beat Brennan's tally by a long, long way. He's probably a better player than Brennan already, so the sooner the 1000 is met by Brennan, the sooner Marc can have a shot at 1000, possibly even 1500! kroblues
At 38, Svec isn't going to be around much longer, but he's still plodding along accumulating goals, with 21 this season from 63 appearances. This also means he has pushed himself above the 1000 appearance mark. He really is only in the team for sentimental reasons at this point, as his physical stats have plummeted. His mental stats mean he's still getting into the right positions occasionally, but those occasions are getting rarer by the season. Surely only a short step to that three figure milestone. He also overtook Josef Svec for the most league goals for East Belfast this season, as he finished on 649 league goals, in comparison to Svec's 600. With 198 goals over the course of this season, from 69 appearances, he is rapidly closing in on 1500, and 2000 goals has to be an easy target so long as he continues his luck with injuries, as he has only ever missed a few matches with minor knocks. Smithers
Once again, this is bloody amazing Nep Simply incredible! I know what it's like when you lose a player of such importance on the game, especially when it's so abrupt. I had the same thing on FM09 with a newgen called Craig Eyre for my Farsley side who was instrumental for me for about 15-20 seasons. On his last ever game, in the FA Cup final, he scored with his last ever touch the winning goal in the last minute - a brilliant send-off, and it's nice that Smiley had one too. Fortunately Eyre stayed on to become a coach at the club; a shame Smiley couldn't have done the same. What was his last ever home match like?
santy001
Great achievement Nep, I'm still ambling along with Keirrison and he's over the 2000 mark now. Just putting his mentality slider up a little bit with each decline in pace. The great thing is that his finishing isn't declining, even though he's getting slower and weaker put the ball at his feet and he can still put it in. I've even resorted to making the targetman alongside him quite defensive minded to stop him getting there ahead of Keirrison lol. If Keirrison keeps going until he's 40 - 41 I could see 2500 being reached at a push, its unlikely but I'll keep plugging at it.

hamilton162
4-2-3-1 works well for me on FM09, but i had to revert to 4-4-1-1 as we were conceding too many goals and some of my players were getting on, so it didn't really work from about 3 seasons ago It's a real shame as we played some brilliant stuff at times & we were scoring a hell of a lot more goals using it

hamilton162
You'll need a bunch of players that have very good physical attributes for it to work. The central midfielders and full backs in particular have to be very strong physically for it to work. R 7.39 Italy: Games, 12 | Goals 3 ---- It may seem as if he didn't really go anywhere this year, but actually Maggio made a decent bit of progress considering the circumstances. He missed the whole of preseason and most of the first half with niggling injuries, ending up on only 6 goals by the start of December. I needn't have worried, however, as he went goal-crazy, racking up another 14 goals by January 8th. Another little slump followed after another niggle, but 40 goals was a strong return still. Including the 3 for Italy, it's his second best season yet. Speaking of Italy, his scoring rate should pick up there quite drastically over the next few games - our next 3 opponents are Slovenia, Wales and Moldova - if he's fit, he should be aiming to be in double figures by the end of that little run

R 7.34 Italy: Games, 27 | Goals 10 ---- Not such a great season by his standards, but still keeping up a fairly decent strike-rate. Still fairly disappointing for Italy, but managed to top-score at the World Cup, so hopefully he'll push on from there. I think I'm going to change the way I manage him - he seems to reserve his best performances for the tricky games, and obviously still manages to fill his boots against the lesser lights, so I'll start resting him against the mid-table sides, as he never seems to be too prolific against them. PVentress
I have to admit that this is a challange that i have never really looked to complete, usually because i dont keep a player for to long and generally am pretty active in the transfer market so no one has ever really had the chance (even if they may have been good enough) Anyway, that i hope is about to change, I have just picked up a 16yr old striker at the start of my 2nd season in my 10.3 New Spurs save, to say he jumped out the screen at me is no understatement, for a forward i think he looks like the best prospect i have seen for a long long time, So i thought i would post him up and really see if he can get near to this challenge. So i introduce to you all Chris Higgins
Guest roberto922
Well that's annoying your first batch of regens pulls out that gem whilst my academy (best in the world for around 8 years) still hasn't had someone good enough to make it in the first team in 10 years at the club
SnakeXe
He looks ridiculous Maggio is on hold for a while as I got bored of my Merthyr save, will revisit it at some point for sure though.
hamilton162
Wow. Just wow. He has to be a real contender for this, massively high attributes in key areas at just 16 years old

dafuge
He looks superb already, what do the coaches say about him? Is there a lot more to come?
Guest roberto922
Must be at least 150 CA, only big downside is his stamina
PVentress
He looks superb already, what do the coaches say about him? Is there a lot more to come? The coaches rate his current ability at 2.5 stars, with a potential ability of 4 stars, They say his potential could lead to him being a leading Premier Division striker in the future, They also say he is a consistent performer which would be great. So it looks as though he has a fair bit left in the locker to come out
PVentress
Must be at least 150 CA, only big downside is his stamina The stamina is a bit of an issue, i am also a little concerned about his Decisions and Determination, However i have put him on an individual schedule focusing on Strength, Tactics, Ball Control and shooting, I am also going to get him tutored to try and up that determination, On a side note, I am just coming to the end of season 2 and due to a number of injuries i have had to play him a little more than i would have liked, But, his return so far @ 16 in the Premiership is Games, 21(8) : Goals, 18 : Assists, 10 : MOM, 6 : GPG, 0.

PVentress
Exelent strike rate for one so young, hopefully once he's developed he can start smashing them in left, right and centre Yeah, he is doing really well, and probably better than i expected for a 16 yr old, He is already starting to show some real class, he just won goal of the month for running from his own half, skinning three players before chipping the keeper And he just hit 4 away at Middlesbrough !!!!! hamilton162
Jesus christ, he sounds like some player already! He could be the only one in FM10 to make it if you keep with the save!
PVentress
Chris Higgins Well his first season is over and he has now turned 17, and i have to say that i am starting to feel a little guilty for "Stealing" him from Middlesbrough's youth team for a paltry £3 million, The aim was to give him a few games in cups and easier league games, but due to a rather large injury list he started much more than i had intended, even though he was only 16. He started a little slowly, but come the end of the season, once he had settled, he really started to show some touches of true class, culminating in a 4 goal blast away at his former club Middlesbrough. He seems pretty consistent and fingers crossed has not has an injury for more than a week or so, so am hoping his injury proneness is low. But i have a real good feeling for this guy, I think he could go the whole way 2010 - Higgins @ 16yrs old, Games Goals Assists MOM GPG Av. hamilton162
All Time Top Scorers :4. Danny Roberts - 1,089 Goals* * Danny Roberts had all of his information lost in the forum purge last year. dafuge remembers his final total to be 1,089, which I have no reason to disbelieve. The screen shot provided, is the only screen shot left of Roberts, and will have to be enough for those of you that are interested. I've just found this screenshot of Roberts' history whilst scanning the FM08 thread Nep if you want to link it in to the OP Edit: And a fantastic first season from Higgins there
