It seems to be largely a team effort with none of the players making it anywhere on the Goals, Assists etc. lists. Unfortunately, they crashed out in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and FA Cup in their first appearance in the competition with a 1-2 loss to Swansea and 0-2 loss to Exeter respectively. They have hired former Derby player Paul Simpson as their new manager. No Email
Season 1: 1st June 2008 Sorry, Mikey Twigge and Ben Whitehead, mixed your league statistics up, the final season tally has the correct ones. Football League Academy: Post-January signings include Serginho for free and Arron Fray on loan, still no players headed the other way. Barely 5 months into his term, Paul Simpson was fired to make way for Steve McMahon, former manager of Swindon, Blackpool and Perth Glory. FLA finished at a steady fifth, much to the board's dismay, however. P46 W20 D13 L13 F76 A58 GD+18 Pts73 In the first leg of the play-offs, they barely beat Accrington away from home wih a 3-2 win courtesy of a Charlie McDonald hat-trick. However, they were trashed in front of their own fans at Football League Academy Park 4-1, with Charlie McDonald scoring their consolation goal. A debut to be proud of, for sure. McMahon subsequently left in June with Sean O'Driscoll from Doncaster taking over. No Email
Season Summary: Shock and horror, Swindon League Two Champions? 18th would have been realistic. FLA players playing in the Championship next season are Madreas Carridias (Swansea), Matt Cowton (Swansea), Mathias Brunckhorst (Swansea), Dean Hoo (Crewe) and. Brendan Petersen (Crewe). Frolicking in League Two next season are Alonso Sanchez (Doncaster), Ben Bennett (Port Vale). For the two that started in League Two, the only one in League One next season is James Butler (Rotherham). Congratulations being back where everyone started. Of course, the other, Ibrahim Al Quasaddy (MK Dons), stays in League Two. Congratulations to Dean Hoo, a great season for him, with Portugal noticing. He played well for Crewe and their promotion is a confirmation slip of my blind conjecture, hopefully the promotion doesn't knock him out of the starting XI. No Email
Season 2: 1st September 2008 Euro 2008: So, as expected, no players made any of the teams in this competition. The competition was largely dominated by the top European powerhouses with Spain, Italy, Holland, France and Germany all making the QFs. The other 3 teams in it were Czech Republic (Strong nation, however, not traditionally viewed as powerhouse), Croatia and England. Those 3 went out along with Holland in the QFs and the SFs features Italy beating Spain 2-1 in extra time and Germany beating France on penalties, finally, Germany beat Italy 4-1 on penalties after normal time and extra times only threw out a 2-2 draw. Football League Academy: Many transfers made this few months and after 6 matches, FLA are 2nd top on level points with Doncaster, their manager's former club. P6 W5 D1 L0 F12 A3 GD+9 Pts16 Many prestigious signings indeed, with the likes of Mart Poom, Tugat, Nolberto Solano, Laurent Robert, Ritchie Jones, Matt Hill, Vincent Pericard coming in. No Email
Season 2: 1st January 2008 Football League Academy: FLA are 1st in League 2 after 24 games, 5 points ahead of 2nd placed Doncaster. They no doubt have their manager to thank with his inspired signings rejuvinating the squad. Vincent Pericard and Michael Coulson are without doubt to thank for their current success with 11 goals each. Also, former Chelsea Youth player Dean Furman leads the FLA assists chart with 9 assists. Despite a 1-0 triumph over WBA in the First Round, FLA were quietly booted from the Carling Cup with Crystal Palace beating them in the Second Round. However, they are still in the FA Cup, facing Liverpool in a Third Round clash.
