How to score corners without using "bug routine"

I don't like taking advantage of the corner bug... But how else do you score corners?! In one season I only scored out two corner kicks! I have a player who has 16 for corners, and several 15+ heading/jumping/strenght/bravery players... But no luck.. No freekicks get scored either, and on top of that my team missed 6 penalties this season! I got players with high penalty and free kick ratings... Is this another bug in the newest update?!

As a team that dominated most/all opponents, i scored the following from a 28 game season:

Corners: 6

Indirect Free Kicks: 3

Direct Free Kicks: 1

I think they are passable stats, only that the majority of the six corners would have come from the corner bug where the taker passes to an unmarked player attacking the near post who shoots in. Which is a bug. I think i scored a couple with the Attack Near Post player heading in (whilst marked), but i would think if you have a player on Attack Near Post then the bug will happen from time to time as well ... not something you want. I didn't spend very long at all setting up my set pieces, in fact mostly i kept the default settings. What i found the vast majority of the time was my big DC attacking the far post would get his head on the ball, only to head over, time ... after time ... after time.

I have a pretty good free kick taker for this level. He scored a good goal in the fourth game of the season, when we were already 2-0 up early on. After that i'm not sure if he produced a save. I think in real life most players aren't proficient from direct free kicks, save for some specialists, but at least they test the keeper from time to time which i find doesn't happen enough in my experience. There aren't many tame free kicks which are comfortable for the keeper. Most seem to whack the wall and bounce out for a corner, frustratingly.

I don't remember how my indirect free kicks were scored really. I'm guessing they were crosses into the box.

But i didn't bother designing set piece routines so i can hardly complain. I can never bring myself to do it since i'm going to be changing players game to game, which will make my original routine thrown out by different types of players in the roles set for other players.

I noticed the same, a lot of my headers from the corners are going over the goal..

I also think IRL teams have different corner routines, when you get 20 corners, your not going to try to do the same corner 20 times..

I think FM should re-do the whole set play... to make it more realistic. Maybe add creative freedom to set plays?

I get only a few goals from corners, and ironically enough, the best tactic for me have been just to use mixed plus going forward without any specific tactics. I get a few headers in a season, two or three more from shots on the penalty area after corners. I've tried praised tactics (not the corner bug) but I just don't get for example any headers from other tactics. Headers just go over the goal if I play on the six yard box, and if I use the penalty area -option from freekicks, I lose the ball a lot and get a hideous amount of counter-attacks.

I get usually only a few goals from freekicks in a season, but on this save I have the ancient Laurent Robert on my team. No stamina basically anymore, but he has scored 7 goals this season, 6 from free-kicks. I think the freekicks just utterly depend on the player taking them.

I've noticed the same thing, we can win the header but it goes over the bar. The 4 top scoring teams from last year managed between 9-12. We managed 3. And we won the league.

On a side note, the ai used the corner exploit against me at least 6 times, the dirty cheat..

I usually score using the same trick from 10.2 the far post one.

Same here, I have set my corners to Far Post and the best header at Attack Far Post everything else mixed up so the Far Post header would be left alone. In a Dortmund save I scored 12 goals in a season but actually it depends on your player a lot.
