Refereeing Assignments - Matches 1-16

Recommended Posts

FIFA’s Referee Committee today assigned Ravshan Irmatov from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as referee for the opening match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ held in Johannesburg Soccer City at 16:00 between France and Mexico.

With an international career dating back to 2003, Ravshan Irmatov is the only Uzbek referee to have officiated in the finals of a FIFA tournament to date. He is currently rated as AFC Referee of the Year and he received this award for the two prior years, 2009 and 2008.

He has appeared three times at the FIFA U-17 World Cup (2003, 2007 and 2009), once at the FIFA U-20 World Cup and also at the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2008, where he not only handled the quarter-final meeting of Al Ahly and Pachuca, but also took charge of the Liga de Quito-Manchester United Final.

His record in the top Asian tournaments includes a debut in the AFC Champions League in 2003 and in 2007 he officiated the Final of this tournament held in Japan, one of his biggest achievements to date. He was also selected for the AFC Asian Cup in 2004 and directed eight Asian preliminary matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™.

I've been waiting for this thread. What can you tell us about this Carlos Simon that's handling USA-England? I'm sure PMLF knows more about him than anybody.

He is an awful ref who also tends to favor specific teams, like Atlético PR vs Santos in Libertadores 2005, Corinthians vs Brasiliense in the Copa do Brasil final in 2002, etc...

I think here in Brazil there isn't any club (not to mention their fans) that like him. Other refs make mistakes too, but many of the most high profile mistakes are from Carlos Eugênio Simon.

It's unbelievable how he is going to his 3rd WC...

A lot of those controversies don't make sense. I'm a qualified ref and I will tell you know theres nothing in the rules about urinating behind an advertising hoarding (could maybe book him for leaving the pitch without permission but play was up the other end of the pitch iirc). And if a steward told you someone in the stadium had been killed you wouldn't want to hang around would you?

Anyway back on topic good to see Howard Webb get a decent game. He's had a poor season but did very well in the Champions League Final and made sure he had as small an impact as possible

That one about a minute and a half in is brilliant :D He sends the red bloke off for diving presumably?

At 2 minutes, he calls a comical penalty. A little nervous about him now. PMLF would seem to suggest we should be.

Howard Webb just 1 of 3 full-time refs at the World Cup, what is a ref's wage like at the top level then btw?

For those contracted to the PGMOL (The Premiership Listers) - they can earn on average - £80,000 £120,000 a season.

Nothing is paid in cash on the matchday except for travelling / meal allowances - all the rest is done electronically.

He (Diego Tardelli from Flamengo) was sent off for complaining, but he was not sent off alone, Fábio Luciano (also from Flamengo) was sent off as well...None of them had been carded in the game before that red card.

Yes, it was a very obvious dive, any half-decent ref would have seen that.

That ref is a major joke, Brazilian refs in general are pretty poor and that guy still stands out among them as one of the worst ones, and yet, he is a FIFA referee and will be on his 3rd WC....

How did that Simon bloke ever manage to get to referee a World Cup game? He was suspended by the Brazilian FA in October for being biased and he sounds alot worse then Ovrebo ever was.

the refs at euro 2008 were on 10,000 euros a game. plus iirc a fee of 10,000 for being there, and 300 euros per day until whenever they were sent home. plus a free watch worth another 10,000 euros. canny mind what the assistants were on but it's something like 5-6000 euros a game while the 4th officials are on a little less.
