Aberdeen vs. Gretna

Gretna (Fleming - Caddis, Skelton, Cuthbert, Collin - Danielsen, Pecnik, Yatorno - Piatti, McGlinchey, Makinwa)

After two weeks break, we were back to the grind of the SPL. The team were fighting fit, absoultely no injuries, as it had been for much of the year. We looked good too, with Collin providing the ammo for Pecnik to find the top corner on 11 minutes. By halftime we had struck again, this time a McGlinchey cross finding Piatti's header.

We would hold out till the 83rd minute, when Lee Miller inexplicably found himself open in front of goal for an easy finish, but our hearts really broke in extra time, the 93rd minute to be exact when a Jeffrey de Visscher ball found Miller again, for another easy finish. We walked away dejected, and a certain dismayed boss would wake up the following day with the mother of all hangovers.

Aberdeen 2-2 Gretna

Man of the Match : Lee Miller

Gretna vs Celtic

Gretna (Fleming - Barr, Skelton, Innes, Collin - Danielsen, Pecnik, Yatorno - Piatti, Kissock, Makinwa)

This was a dissapointing end to a diffult week for dishevelled Gretna boss David Cain. After a week of questions and intrigue surrounding his antics in Aberdeen the following weekend. He had been at a loss to explain why he had been nicked at 5am in the redlight district, found sleeping in an alleyway. How did he know how he got there? The public wanted answers, some even called for his head, and he knew he needed a huge result here to change the focus of the fans unwanted attention.

Not this time though, not even close. We were taught a harsh lesson, and Craig Barr and Chris Innes were repeatedly made to look the fool at the back. Without going into details, we never looked like winning. Goals from Shunsuke Nakamurea, Massimo Donati, and a peach from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink sealed our fate here in front of our own fans.

The only bright spot here was that other results had ensured our place in the top six playoffs, though I didn't look forward to these games with any great expectation, our season had officially gone pear-shaped.

Gretna 0-3 Celtic

Man of the Match : Massimo Donati

Attendance : 13665

St Mirren vs. Gretna

Gretna (Fleming - Caddis, Skelton, Cuthbert, Collin - Danielsen, Pecnik, Yatorno - Piatti, McGlinchey, Makinwa)

Up against 11th placed St Mirren, we saw this as a great chance to restore some dignaty, after our humping vs Celtic a week earlier. We dominated every statistic in this one: shots 30-6, possesion 62%-38%, every statistic except the one that mattered most of all.

Craig Dargo ran 80 yards untouched in the 31st minute to score unopposed to give Mirren an undeserved, and Chris Smith played the game of his life in St Mirren's goal. In the end we were grateful to pinch a point in the 93rd minute, when Andre Danielson poked home in a goalmouth scramble. We should have won, but at least we didn't lose.

St Mirren 1-1 Gretna

Man of the Match : Chris Smith

Gretna vs Inverness CT

Gretna (Fleming - Caddis, Skelton, Cuthbert, Collin - Danielsen, Pecnik, Yatorno - Piatti, McGlinchey, Makinwa)

Next up were old adverseries Inverness. We had mixed results against them this season aand we were hoping to end the opening stage on a high. And we did just that. There were very few shots in this game, and in fact the only one which mattered came along in the 5th minute, with Nejc Pecnik winning possesion and powering home from 30 yards.

This meant that going into the group stage, we would begin in 4th, with Hearts 3 points ahead, and Inverness and Hibs 3 points behind. Down the other end Kilmarnock were in last, 11 points adrift of St Mirren and Motherwell

Hearts vs Gretna

Gretna (Fleming - Caddis, Skelton, Cuthbert, Collin - Danielsen, Pecnik, Kissock - Piatti, McGlinchey, Deuchar)

Unfortunately we missed star striker Henry Makinwa and Fabien Yatorno for this one meaning rare starts for Kissock and Deuchar. And the changes seemed to work. After 36 minutes we were already 2 goals up. Both goals went to the inform Pecnik, courtesy of Danielsen and Deuchar, and we went into the half 2 goals up.

And that's when it fell apart, 20 seconds in, a Calum Elliott cross found Pinilla unmarked and he headed home. Then, another cross found Velicka to square the game up, and finally, a poor clearance went straight to Pinilla again to complete the comeback. Anger didn't start to sum up my feelings on this one. Changes would be made in the off-season, with the backline a priority.

Hearts 2-3 Gretna

Man of the Match : Mauricio Pinilla
