Not setting set-pieces?

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question. I'm wondering if anyone knows how the game chooses who will take set-pieces if you don't set them up on the tactics screen? Does it just pick the best players or is it entirely random?

I've got a number of quality set-piece specialists at the moment and I would, ideally, like to be able to rotate between them rather than setting one specialist all of the time. Will leaving the options blank achieve this? Does anyone know?

Thanks. :)

I don't know for sure, however the CM does rotate between takers (often when corners are consecutively earned on the same side, different players take them). That would lead me to believe that leaving it blank does result in a bit of randomness in terms of who takes it.

That said, I've also seen the CM choose dramatically inferior free kick ratings over better (Ronaldo not taking FK's springs to mind), so there may be a significant downside.

So question is, are your good set piece takers on your captain's favoured personnel list?? :p

To be a bit more helpful, I usually leave my penalty and free-kick taker blank, since (in theory) I want a player who's confident at the time to take them, rather than someone who's very good attribute-wise but having a poor game. It works pretty well, especially on free-kicks, but you do get some very odd choices for penalties, eg this season a LB with 4 penalties, 11 composure took one (and scored!) but a couple of matches later I had two strikers playing, one a good penalty taker, the other a (relatively) poor one. The poor one took it and missed, I drew the game :(
