Overload tactic..

Recommended Posts

The main problem with going ultra offensive for a whole match, is that your players will likely tire very quickly. It's also not always effective against teams who "park the bus". Sometimes you need to sit back a little and draw defensive opponents forward, then hit the space they leave.

That said though, I tend to favour more offensive tactics, but I also know when to change mentalities during matches, or when to make player changes in key areas.

I have tried developing a tactic that uses overload. It is a sort of lobsided 451, designed to create space for full backs (who do tire as they are set to very attacking). It works reasonably well, playing as Wellington Phoenix in the A League and have won the league once in 5 years with 3 runners up and a 3rd place, in the finals i have been runner up 4 times and 3rd once (Oceania Nations cup issues affected a few of those seasons). I do set my DM to quite defensive so that there is cover when the full backs go rampaging forward.
