Welsh League for FM2011 Project

At this time its pure speculation but I'm wondering if a few people want to band together to create a Welsh League Structure up to around Level 8. I have friends who play in a level 8 league and would love, personally, to take them to the 'top flight'.

I did start making one last year but my file got corrupted. At this time it would mostly be researching but I'd like to get a feel for if anyone is interested...

cool, now I know the league structure has changed in a number of places for this season so I'm gna have to find a reliable source to find the new structure. The Port Talbot league, where my mates play, has been changed slightly but then I obviously have a good source for getting that right.

yeh if I remember correctly, the pembrokeshire league would be there based on last year's structure... right now anyone who has information to contirbute about the league's structure is welcome to post links here and I'll update the first post. Something i need to clarify is how is the 2nd tier is organised this season cus the number of teams in the Welsh Premier has been cut by 6.

Welsh Premier League - 12 clubs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010-11_Welsh_Premier_League

Then it splits into the Cymru Alliance (North) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010%E2%80%9311_Cymru_Alliance - 17 clubs and Welsh football league (South) - 18 clubs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Football_League_Division_One#Teams_for_2010-11

The north splits further into 3, Welsh national league (Wrexham area), Welsh alliance league (covering Clwyd and Gwynedd) and Mid wales League (Brecknockshire, Radnorshire, Montgomeryshire and Ceredigion)

The south simply filters down to the Welsh football league division 2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Football_League_Division_Two#Membership_of_the_Welsh_Football_League_Division_Two.2C_season_2010-11

Thats down to Tier 3 coverd for starters

Ah! wikipedia has been updated :)

This was my resource for last year... it looks updated now

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_football_league_system

however, with the minor changes made to the lower leagues, its possible some of this is wrong and we'll have to look more in depth

I've added your bits of information and links to the first page.

I will also help, Would it include the pembrokeshire league

relating to your question. If you have an interest in this league I can encourage you to research this league for teams, structure, kits etc.

Also, on a general note. If anyone plays for a club within this structure or knows a team quite well, I'm open to adding detail to these clubs in the form of correct players, managers, coaches etc.

Guys, must admit that my knowledge of Welsh lower league football is limited however I will be following this topic with interest as I downloaded CymruAmBythWXM Welsh league update for FM10 and it has definitely enhanced my enjoyment of the game.

Glad your interested. I think it will pretty much be impossible to get 100% accurate, or even 80% :S but we'll do what we can.

rights, as i previosuly stated, I'm off on hols so if anyone can find any more research while I'm gone then all the better - its mostly links to league tables I'm looking for (or team lists for this season).

Well if you need any help looking up info about the Welsh Leagues I will do what I can, sadly I wont be much help on the technical side of creating the league/editing etc.

Out of curiosity will you be doing a version where the Welsh clubs in the English League system enter the Welsh FA Cup?

Hi all,

I'm back from hols!

Well if you need any help looking up info about the Welsh Leagues I will do what I can, sadly I wont be much help on the technical side of creating the league/editing etc.

Out of curiosity will you be doing a version where the Welsh clubs in the English League system enter the Welsh FA Cup?

knowledge of the editors themselves is not an issue as I and maybe others will do most of this bit. In relation to the welsh cup, I want to keep it as real as possible but what I think we'll do is re-introduce the FAW Premier Cup, which was disbanded a few years back. This cup was often won by Cardiff, Swansea or Wrexham. The other welsh teams in the english league, Newport, Merthyr and Colwyn Bay will have to be added too I think for completeness.

Use of the advanced panel is beyond my knowledge but I don't know if it will work or be required for FM2011 at this stage. We'll have to wait possibly for November 5th.

i'll be looking at this, you may have just convinced me to get FM11 if this goes ahead, my local team are in Level 7, so obviously they've never been officially playable, would be fun to try and take them to the top of the world :D

thats precisely why i want to make this update

The Clwyd League will have 2 divisions this year, Clwyd League Premier (level 4) has 12 teams while Clwyd League Division 1 (level 5) has 13 teams.

Source: http://www.clwydfootballleague.co.uk/Default.htm

EDIT: Found other leagues:

Gwynedd League (Level 4) has 10 teams - http://www.cynghrair-gwynedd-league.co.uk/english/index.php

Anglesey football league (level 5) has 12 teams - http://angleseyleague.synthasite.com/

The only thing I can find for the Caernarfon and District League is from this article. http://icnorthwales.icnetwork.co.uk/dailypost/sport/wpremier//tm_headline=the-2010-11-season-will-deliver-massive-changes-in-the-make-up-of-senior-football-in-north-wales%26method=full%26objectid=27046135%26siteid=50142-name_page.html

In the Caernarfon and District League Division 1 (level 5) has 11 teams. Caernarfon and District League Division 2 (level 6) has 10 teams.

Football in North Wales only goes down to level 6, unless you include the reserve divisions for the leagues but teams from these leagues will never be allowed above level 5.

Should be interesting, one downside however will be getting information for the 2nd tier of the Anglesey league as well as both Caernarfon leagues. I've been looking everywhere for them. I can find the league tables for the clubs in local papers but cant find anything else, like club colours or where they play.

I don't actually think there is a 2nd tier Anglesey league. Caernarfon leagues are a real pain, I can only find info on Llandudno 147 who play in the Caernarfon and District league Division 2 :(

I'm wondering, when researching...will we just duplicate the 1st teams and reserves teams if they are in different divisions.

I'll be honest with you, down to level 5 has been implimented by myself (unplayable from the start obviously) but won't take much to activate it, aswell as some (but not all due to time constraints, aswell as not being able to find the info) level 6 leagues.

Hi all, loving the extended interest!

I've updated the first post with the extra leagues mentioned.

To answer a few questions -

we should be ok with north wales levels ending before south wales. I read somewhere that SI were to address the issue with some leagues at the same level having differing promotion/relegation numbers so we can set no releagation for the bottom north wales leagues.

Selfishly, Level 8 is where my personal interest ends but its possible we could expand on it depending how many more leagues we're talking about.

It may take some creative licsence to bypass the issue of lack of information for some club colours etc.

Just seen this thread, I worked pretty extensively with the Welsh database last year and the year before. One word of advice if any of this is going to work, you need to ensure that co-ordinates are correctly included into all the clubs' locations. Your leaving yourself with alot of work but good luck.

There is more Villages, Town's and Cities included in FM11, I added loads of them as I wanted to get rid of the Cities that were in the game that were actually Counties and had no Co-Ordinates set, whoever decides to do a Welsh update for FM11 has a much easier task ahead of them than You and I did last year. To cut a long story short in FM11 Wales sets off from where my FM10 update finished, obviously not playable down to Level 5 out of the box with it wouldn't take much work to activate down to that Level.

Nice one mate. I'm really looking forward to seeing all your hard work. I'm sure it will be a huge improvement on previous years where the data was quite outdated.

Sorry I was unable to assist you much this year, have had a busy time moving house and with other things going on. I have recently submitted the beta testing document, but have a feeling it is probably too late in the day now for them to except it. Will try and give you as much feedback as I can though once I've seen the full database etc.

Another thing aswell, if you are going down to Level 8 are you doing it fully or skipping certain leagues out? Just that it is almost impossible to find upto date info on some of the leagues from Level 5 and downwards (that being one of the reason's I stopped at Level 5), for example the Swansea and District League, although implimented in the game at Level 5 I've got a feeling that it could be out of date already as the source I used hasn't been updated for a while.

Truth be told I think making it as accurate as possible is the first step. Skipping leagues out is what I did last year but I think a slightly inaccurate league would suffice if there was no one interested in that particular league, thats more or less the reason I posted this thread in the first place to see if others had interests in a particular league and/or had information/sources. Like I've stated previously, a bit of creative freedom could be implemented at least until someone comes up with the right information and the database can be updated.

I think a step-by-step release could help - build to level 3 then 4 then 5 then 8? Those only interested in getting some levels in can start playing with it earlier than others.

I have already made an update to Level 5 for FM11 which I will make available on Thursday/Friday so that should make your workload a lot easier as then you'll only need to do Levels 6, 7 and 8.
