lewboo1
I know this type of thread is a little tedious but I am in the market for a new laptop and it has to be one that I can play FM 10 and 11 on. I also want it to be pretty fast! What's the verdict on this one... http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5083383.htm
lewboo1
Or is this one better... http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/dell-inspiron-1546-red-04927946-pdt.html
Andyfm5
They will both play it mate, probably about the same performance as well - don't expect too much in the way of 3d match engine though.....it might run ok
Andyfm5
On a sidenote, buy the one from Argos purely on the basis of how damn annoying and patronising the description of the PC World one is. Why apply a descriptive word to something when you are following it with actual spec: "A very spacious 320GB Hard Drive" - Is it more spacious than a regular 320gb hard drive? No its not! "very large 4GB Memory multitasks with ease" etc etc How stupid but I guess it tells you a lot about their target market.
lewboo1
haha good point. This is the last one mate I promise- http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/toshiba-satellite-l655d-133-06525264-pdt.html Find myself swaying towards this one for some reason
Tim_Cdy
One thing too add, be wary of Dell's customer service. It is appalling and unprofessional. Fortunately the lappys are of reasonable quality. Personally I would go for a Toshiba or an HP, that runs a Core series rather than AMD.

TigerTime
On specs the DELL Inspiron 1546 Red from PC World is the best. That's the one I'd go for.

TigerTime
Not worried but I wont help you out very much speed wise. But like I said the Dell is definately the best option out of the 3. 4gb of RAM, 2.2ghz processor will make the laptop run very quick and smooth. Also comes with good size 320GB hd and a good graphics card with 512mb memory which is a nice bonus.

I would recomend you to stay away from Intel GFX. They can't make any decent drivers at all.
Ishu
Just looked at the laptops Argos one looks good best proccessor of the choices. Curry's looks better overall Acer has a problem with build quality but well they are cheaper. Get curry's for overall uses OR argos if FM is priority. fonzie
Hey guys, I'm also looking to buy a new laptop before FM 11, and whilst aware that i need a decent processor, 4 gigs of ram and a graphics card with 1 gig dedicated memory, i am a bit confused as to which HDD to choose. Has anyone upgraded to a 7200 rpm harddrive recently? will choosing it over the standard 5400 significantly improve overall FM performance?
Ishu
Not too sure about FM, but 5400rpm HD are most common bottlenecks in laptops. The difference is much more than a CPU upgrade. Defo get it if possible.
fonzie
But is FM sensitive to harddrive performance though, or is it mainly processor / memory? Are anyone playing FM with a SSD drive btw?
TigerTime
It's mainly the processor and RAM that make a difference in FM mate.
