I've decided to do a journeyman save with an Australian manager with professional playing experience

25th May 2010

I've been appointed as manager of Bahrain to manage them to the end of the 2011 Asian Cup. Before this tournament I have 10 friendlies:

5th June 2010 New Zealand National Stadium (H)

11th August 2010 Australia National Stadium (H)

4th September 2010 Gabon National Stadium (H)

8th September 2010 Costa Rica National Stadium (H)

9th October 2010 Canada National Stadium (H)

17th November 2010 Bosnia and H National Stadium (H)

9th February 2011 Ecuador National Stadium (H)

26th March 2011 Honduras National Stadium (H)

4th June 2011 China PR National Stadium (H)

8th June 2011 Trinidad & T National Stadium (H)

5th June 2010

The friendly against New Zealand is today

Bahrain 1-2 New Zealand

Ismail Abdul Lateef (42)

Mahmood Jalal (injured. 16)

Chris Wood (30)

Shane Smeltz (77)

Phil Edginton (injured. 28)

The team put in a good performance but it wasn't enough against New Zealand.

11th August 2010

The friendly against Australia is today

Bahrain 1-2 Australia

Ali Norooz (71)

Abdullah Fatai (injured. 16)

Nikita Rukavytsya (32)

Tim Cahill (pen. 64)

Another 2-1 loss but at least it was against Australia and it was another good performance. Another injury on the 16th minute though. Odd.

4th September 2010

Another friendly today, this time against Gabon.

Bahrain 2-3 Gabon

Hussain Pele (6, 45+1)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (33)

Eric Mouloungui (45, 50)

I guess it's a decent result, although I'd like to record my first win. The stats are pretty favourable to us so we should be able to record that victory, hopefully against Costa Rica.

8th September 2010

Here's the game against Costa Rica and I hope to have a victory.

Bahrain 2-4 Costa Rica

Jaycee (53)

Hussain Pele (64)

Winston Parks (4)

Alonso Solis (20,23)

Oscar Rojas (78)

Our worst result and our worst performance so far but at least the performance in general wasn't embarrassing. Should've scheduled some easier friendlies.

9th October 2010

A friendly at home against Canada, we should be aiming to win.

Bahrain 0-0 Canada

I'm getting quite angry at this terrible results. We need to go one step further and actually win a match.

17th November 2010

Our most difficult friendly today, against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bahrain 3-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina

Jaycee (3)

Mahmood Abbas (43)

Mahmood Al-Ajalmi (83)

Vedad Ibisevic (82)

15th January 2011

The Asian Cup group stages have been drawn

We have been drawn in Group A, alongside Jordan, South Korea and Syria. I think we can progress from that group. The other groups are

Group B – Iran, Iraq, Oman and Uzbekistan

Group C – Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE

Group D – India, Japan, The Maldives and Vietnam

Yes Australia didn't qualify.

23rd January 2011

Trinidad and Tobago have cancelled our friendly scheduled for the 8th June 2011.

9th February 2011

Hopefully we can achieve 2 in a row with victory over Ecuador.

Bahrain 1-1 Ecuador

Hussain Pele (64)

Luis Bolanos (pen. 38)

A good draw against a nation Bahrain would traditionally naturalise players from.

26th March 2011

Today is a friendly against Honduras and I'd like to keep a good run going.

Bahrain 3-1 Honduras

Abdulla Al-Marzuqi (10)

Salman Essa (41)

Jaycee (74)

Ala'a Hubail (injured. 51)

Emilio Izaguirre (77)

11th April 2011

Bahrain will play Nepal at Dasarath Rangasala (A) on the 8th June 2011

4th June 2011

Today is the penultimate friendly, we're up against China and hopefully we can keep this unbeaten run going.

Bahrain 0-0 China

Well we keep a good record.

8th June 2011

I'd be absolutely livid if we don't comfortably win an easy friendly against Nepal.

Nepal 0-3 Bahrain

Chandra Katuwal (missed penalty 17)

Abdulla Fatai (5)

Abdulla Omar (54,66)

Abdulla Fatai (injured 10)

11th July 2011

This is my squad for the 2011 Asian Cup

Mahmood Abbas, Abdulla Abdo, Salah Abdul-Hameed, Abdulla Omar, Abbas Ahmed (gk), Ala'a Hubail, Abdul Wahab Ali, Abdulla Al-Marzuqi, Abbas Ayyad, Faouzi Aaish, Hamad Rakea, Hussain Baba, Hussain Pele, Jaycee (vc*), Abdulla Mahdi, Mahmood Jalal, Mahmood Hussain, Ali Norooz, Ringo, Dawood Saad, Salman Essa ©, Sayed Mohammed Sayed Jaffar (gk).

Mohammed Salmeen (not selected) is usually vice captain.

The Bahrain Football Association expect us to reach the Quarter Finals, I believe that is achievable. The best ever performance by Bahrain is 4th place in 2004. That would be very difficult for me to achieve.

16th July 2011

The day is here, my first game at the Asian Cup. Bahrain will today play Jordan. I'd love a win today to kick off our Asian Cup campaign.

Bahrain 3-1 Jordan

Jaycee (43,90)

Abdulla Omar (47)

Mohamed Hussain (injured 45+4)

Abdelhadi Al-Maharmeh (70)

17th July 2011

Mohamed Hussain will be out for 3-4 days with a dead leg.

Ringo also sustained an injury, Ringo will be out for 6-9 days with a bruised rib.

20th July 2011

Today is out 2nd game of the Asian Cup. Today we are up against South Korea, this should be a much tougher test and I'd be happy with a draw.

South Korea 2-0 Bahrain

Park Yong-Ho (6)

Lee Chun-Soo (86)

It wasn't an embarrassment but South Korea fully deserved their victory.

In the group it's a 4 way tie

South Korea +1 3

Jordan 0 3

Bahrain 0 3

Syria -1 3

23rd July 2011

The final game of the Asian Cup. To make sure we progress we need to win this game against Syria. I'd be very disappointed if we don't win.

Bahrain 3-1 Syria

Abdulla Omar (35)

Hussain Pele (51,75)

Firas Al-Khatib (44)

A very satisfying victory which make us progress.

24th July 2011

After South Korea's victory today we progress in 2nd. South Korea are ahead on goal difference. We are drawn with Saudi Arabia in the Quarter Final.

27th July 2011

The Group Stage is over, now we have a full list of the Quarter Finals.

Bahrain vs Saudi Arabia

South Korea vs Qatar

Japan vs Iran

India vs Oman

29th July 2011

Today is the Quarter Final against Saudi Arabia, a victory today would at least equal Bahrain's greatest footballing achievement.

Bahrain 0-2 Saudi Arabia

-

Ahmed Fattalah (7)

Osama Hawsawi (38)

30th July 2011

I resign as manager of Bahrain.
