Gamersgate Version - Crash on Startup

Recommended Posts

OK - Officially fed up with FM2011 already

I have GG version, downloads fine and installs.

On start up I get ByteSheild screen. No instructions anywhere what to do, so I make up username and password, input GG code hit OK and "crash"

code is FM2011 11.1.0f157094 has stopped working, please close program.

At least I am starting to get used to this cluster on FM release day :-(

Hi,

In this situation - you need to run the program as Administrator. Please see the link here: ByteShield Help

Thanks

Hi,

Ok this might sound a little convoluted but I'm sure it will get you going again:

1) Go to the Football Manager 2011 install directory

2) Locate ByteShield.ini - open in Notepad

3) Delete all but the Top 2 Lines of data - you should be left with the following (on 2 lines):

[Client]

gui=Bsi10

4) Save the file

5) locate the file 'profiles.xml' and delete this file

6) locate a file like xxxxxxx_sg_fm_10rc_decryptmod.lib (where xxxxxxx is the username you used to register) - if no file - skip to 8)

7) Delete file

8) Double click the FM.exe file

9) Enter your username/password

10) Accept any dialogue prompts (will prompt to move active activation)

11) Play game

Cheers

You shouldn't be experiencing these issues with Steam? This is a 'ByteShield' only issue?

I am at a loss to be honest, everything i have tried from reading the forums has no effect. I never get past the initial crash and the error message (football manager 2011 11.1.0f157094)

Any help will be very very welcomed!

Hi oldsoldier,

when it crashes, does it give you a message 'fm.exe has stopped working' or 'fm.bbz has stopped working or something else?

I am sorry you are having this problem. It is crazy for us because we want to help you and this is unique. One thing I thought of is that if you have any AV software, it might do this. Protection looks like a virus. I know sometimes I wind up with AV software I don't even know is there because various places are always trying to help me out with free trials of it. Looking back on the thread, I haven't seen the suggestion that you check carefully for that. Could you double check for that? If you don't know how, post back and we will help you.

I have been trying to install FM 2011 purchased from Direct-2-Drive since 18:00. I have tried various different methods.

The details which I have found is that it seems to be an error with 64bit operating systems. I am running Windows Home Premium 64Bit. I have been able to install the game, however when launching I get the byteshield box appear Loading Application then count up then dissappear, however the game does not launch. I get the following error in event viewer;

Not a specialist but have to go with Abbis on this. Most people having the exact error seem to be running 64bit. And is it just an impression or do most people having the same issue also bought the game on D2drive or something similar?

Either way, first time I bought it like this, and last time. I bought the game twice, once on amazon, they didnt ship it in time, so bought it once more on D2drive and now this. Frustrating to say the least. Although the amazon part hasnt got to do anything with SI games probably.

Anyway. it would be nice to wake up and have a solution for this :s

Its is not a download issue, I have plenty of other games from Gamersgate that work fine. It is a DRM issue yet again and ByteShield does not work and stops me playing the game.

Why do SI do this year in, year out and just annoy their customers. It has now been 24 hours and i still cannot play the game.

How about some compensation offer for my wasted time and effort ? (again)

I tried without firewall and AV to no avail. Theres no free trials on my computer.

It seems to be related with 64bit Operating Systems. Most people posting same error have a 64 bit OS. I tried on a second PC with a 32bit XP version and I dont encounter a single problem.

Later on I am going to do a complete fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate (now have vista 64 ultimate) + fresh install of Win XP 32 on this computer (the one where its not working on) and again test on both OS. Will inform here of the outcome.

@ Jerseyshoredave : I think your issue might be different. We are getting a speciific crash after Byteshield, from what I gather your byteshield hangs?

when i track the program it runs then just stops running, it doesn't hang its more like its not getting FM2010 to start

I know that Bangai I repair and build computers for a living. The specific crash that I can replicate on my test windows 7 Ultimate seems to be the same thing Windows 7 will announce certain program activities that XP won't. Doesn't mean its the same thing, I'm just guessing here from experience.

I think it could be a 64 bit chip issue which I've seen too many times working on computers for small business using out of date programs, which this isn't but it acts like it :X

Actually looking through the event viewer I see:

Faulting application fm.exe, version 1.0.0.1, faulting module fm.exe, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x00053414.

And in other crashes the fm.exe version changes...

Faulting application fm.exe, version 1.0.0.1, faulting module fm.exe, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x00053414.

Faulting application fm.exe, version 11.0.0.21379, faulting module fm.exe, version 11.0.0.21379, fault address 0x00986d56.

at least I got 2 errors out of the 100+ failures

I have exactly the same issue...

Again, the relase of a product that isnt yet fit for the consumer market...Its like Hearts of Iron III all over again...

Got a feeling its the 64Bit version of the OS that is the issue

Right. Installed a completely clean Win 7 64Bit version and it is working.

Where I previously had under properties, compatibility, priveledge level, run as admin greyed out, i could tick it now and it works.

Didnt play yet, but it does start. Hope this is of any help for those not able yet.
