After reading his e-mail, Jack spat his coffee over his laptop in surprise.

The Sun

West Ham have announced Jack Lambourne as their manager, replacing Isralite, Avram Grant who has given up his managerial position to return to his homeland. Many fans are amazed at the appointment of the Englishman who has never ahd a carrer in football at all untill now. Fans are fuming at his appointment because of far better options available, such as; Martin O'neil and West Ham legend Paolo Di Canio. Co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have been quoted as saying that they want to give a relative unknown a chance in the beautiful game.

Jack was amazed at the decision and was already salivating at the contract he had been shown by David Gold. He had never managed a football team before and had to quintuple check that it wasn't somewbody playing a cruel joke. He lived alone in a small apartment in east London. He had been out of a job for five years and only applied for the job with the hammers as a dare from one of his friends after a night out round the suburbs of the capital. His initial surprise and shock were turning into ecstasy, he had very little expereince in football and had only played for a sunday league team for a few months before a career ending injury. This injury had stopped him from getting alot of jobs even simple desk work.

After meeting his squad for the first time Jack was sure that there needed to be some fresh faces added to his dreesing room.

His assistant manager, Matthew Upson, had filed a team report

Goalkeepers

Robert Green-A solid first choice but will need to restore his confidence after a costly error in South Africa

Ruud Boffin- A decent backup but never really going to make it at this level

Marek Stech- Not really going to threaten Rob Green will look to move on before the season starts

Defenders

Manuel Da Costa-OK but will be shifted on as soon as possible

Tal Ben Haim- Pretty experienced for this level. On loan from financially troubled Portsmouth. Fist choice alongside Matthew Upson

Danny Gabbidon- Looking to challenge for his position but has been unlucky with injury during his time at the club

Winston Reid- New signing made by Avram Grant but is injured for the first two months of the season

James Tomkins- Probably the best youth prospect at the club. He is attracting the intrest of bigger clubs.

Matthew Upson- The new assistant manager, Mr consistent. Not really much needs saying here apart from he is the club captian.

Fullbacks

Valon Behrami- A good solid player who can play almost anywhere on the pitch.

Lars Jacobsen- Good right back who can be relied on to replace Behrami should it come to it.

Herita Illunga- First choice at leftback back after an injury last season.

Julian Faubert- Back at the club after a loan move to Real Madrid didn't work out. not going to figure much this year.

James Tomkins is suspectied to be lining up a sevn million pound move to Manchester City. West Ham have refused to Comment on this matter. Also to do with West Ham, Manager Jack Lambourne has announced that he will be using a radical new 2-7-1 formation in the upcoming season

"Great" Thought Jack as he closed the paper realising that they knew all of the clubs secrets. Well except for one that is, the Hammers were lining up a bid for Southampton wonder kid, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. This however was unappreciated by the board, even though they wanted an attacking midfielder to join the squad. West Ham were also after Wigan forward Hugo Rodallega and Man City striker Roques Santa Cruz.

After meeting his new team Jack had initially decided against signing Sata Cruz but now as Tomkins was sold to City, he would have the resources to sign the Paraguayan international, along with Chamberlain. Chamberlain was brought in for 450k but Santa Cruz had rejected a contract offer. Defender Maunuel Da Costa had also left for 6.5 million to Barcelona. With these funds Jack decided to try and lure Javier Saviola to the club, which worked effectively.

Freindly results

West Ham(3-1) VS Manchester United (4-5 (Favourites))

West Ham (2-7-1) Green, Upson, Beh-Haim, Ilunga, Jacobsen, Hitzelsperger, Kovac, Collison, Obinna, Chamerlain, Cole

Manchester United (4-4-2) Van Der Sar, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Brown, Giggs, Anderson Flecther, Park, Berbatov, Rooney

With Behrami injured it was upto Jacobsen to keep Giggs quiet. West Ham were hoping to contain the midfiel and play the ball upto Cole and see if he can do anything with it. Obinna and Chamberlain were handed their debuts at the front of the midfield and would look to worry the United defence as often as possible.

The early stages had nothing to comment on with Fletcher going into the book with a ferocious challenge on Obinna who was having a shocker of a game. the game sprung into life however on 36minutes when Vidic tackled Cole and ran the length of the pitch before putting the ball past Rob Green into the top left corner from the edge of the box. The rest of the half passed without incident as neither team could create anything.

It was obvious changes were need at half time but Jack Lambourne went a bit far and used all three, replacing Obinna, Ben-Haim and Hitzelspereger with Boa morte, Gabbidon and Barrera respectively.

Just after the restart Rooney skipped past three challenges befor squaring the ball to Berbatov, who unleased a powerful shot into the away fans. Moments later Rooney was at it again when he beat gabbidon, before being felled by Upson. Rooney then fired the free kick from 35 yards out spectacularly against the crossbar. On 70 minutes gabbidon had West hams first shot, hitting a free kick wide of Van Der Sars right hand post. The match ended with no other incidents and the Hammers finished the day bottom of the league.
