Toppling the Mark Wilson Monopoly

Sporting Nohope

A League One side harbouring ambitions of making it to the Premiership. Maybe you should meet their rag tag players. Links in the names.

Goalkeepers;

Yury Spavlova (Spav)

Yury is a world class Russian goalkeeper, and he is the clubs head Chef. He does actually make a mean pavlova, but sharing that with his name is just coincidental. Yury is likely to be the number one keeper for the majority of the season.

George McGeorge (Burgess Basso)

George is young and has plenty to aim for, and hopefully that will include a name change in the future. His parents clearly didn’t think it through when he was born, but that hasn’t prevented him becoming the next big Northern Irish keeper.

Chris Kras (WLKRAS)

Chris is a good young keeper, but he has a lot to compete against with both Spavlova and McGeorge at the club. As his name is likely to suggest to you, he does get made fun of quite a bit. He's Dutch by birth, he should expect it.

Defenders;

Charlie Terkleton (Terk)

He is a big, bruising English defender with all the technical skill of a big, bruising English defender. Charlie has the physical attributes to put the fear of god into most players he comes up against, including pansy footed foreigners.

Simone Cibala Aguero (SCIAG)

See what I did with the name there? Simone is a strong Italian left back with some real skill at getting forward, though at times he leaves a lot lacking for his defensive abilities. Simone is likely to be first choice at the club, and will be instrumental on the left for us.

Billy Chesterton (chesterfan2)

Billy is the complete opposite of Simone, in that while he can defend extremely well, his getting forward is rather lacklustre. It makes for a good combination though, and they blend well. Billy comes from a wealthy background, his posh ways leading to general abuse from teammates.

Mack Onen (Makonnen)

Mack is as solid as young defenders come, and he looks likely to be a big fixture for the season. Mack hails from Scotland originally, but has English origins aswell. He is likely to be on the backfoot in terms of a first team spot, but a good run isn’t out of the picture.

Mike O’Fara (Faramir)

A defender that can play all along the backline is like gold to any manager, and Mike is just that person. The Irish born USA built multipurpose defender is likely to be a massive key in the cog of the side, even if he just provides multipurpose support from the bench.

Fanfare Panpare (Panpardus)

Fanfare wins the award for the most stupid of all names within the squad, and by a long shot. The Frenchman is a solid defender though, and he will definitely do a good job for the club in the coming season.

Arsenio van Ben (BenArsenal)

Arsenio is the last defender on the clubs books, and can play a whole multitude of positions, making him just as valuable as O’Fara. Arsenio is a good player, and should feature well for the club this season.

Mark van Ink (Mark Snellink)

Mark is Dutch born, but he doesn’t let that hamper his career. He can play at both full back positions, and he can do it rather aptly. He is likely to struggle for a starting spot against Simone and Chesterton, but you never know when injuries may strike.

Midfielders;

Sam Ramsay Koroma (-Xenon-)

Sam is one of the hardest workers on the team, his passing and general midfield play making the game seem much easier. He knows of his likeness with one of pops more eccentric characters, George Michael, but he loves and appreciates the music of his sound-alike.

Arun Essien (Offspring8)

Arun is a solid attacking midfielder, a position he thrives in when given the right men to link up with. Arun has become a mainstay in the dressing room, and his addiction to tea and biscuits are what make everyone believe he’s English, even though he’s Ghanaian. Did I also mention that he Michael Essien’s brother?

Gavinho (gavrenwick)

Gavinho is Brazilian by birth, but plays like he’s from the Faroe Islands. He has some great technical ability but is hampered by his lack of real physical presence. He is taking lessons from Charlie Terkleton in how to become tougher, the final aim to become as tough as old boots like Charlie is.

Leigh Scott (ScottleeSV)

A defensive midfielder with the capabilities to punish the players he comes up against, Leigh is a great player for that role. He is however liable to yellow and majority red cards, and it’s likely he will be sent off throughout the season.

Vincent Bobblesmith (BobBev)

Another excellent and solid central midfielder, with the skill and power to drive through the heart of midfield. Vincent needs to keep his performances good though, or he is easily liable to lose his first team spot to the other solid midfielders.

Stefan Horstel (stoehrst)

A pure German player, with all the wit and charisma of one. He thankfully chooses to not dress like national team manager Joachim Low, and that can only be a plus. On the football side of things, Piotr is an able winger with the skill to match his peers, and is likely to hold the position down easily.

Christian Satioez (Satio)

An extremely talented, and lazy, Argentinean winger. Christian has all the potential to go to the top, but has lack of people skills is likely to be a problem for him. He once beat up another player for simply stating that his pass was too far in front of him.

Strikers;

Michael Larsson (Celtic_1967)

Michael is the illegitimate son of Celtic legend Henrik, and has inherited his striking abilities. Well, almost anyway. Sadly Michael was raised whilst Henrik lived in Glasgow, and as such also picked up Scottish misfiring talent.

Jeffrey Shufflesmith (tenthreeleader)

This guy is believed to be the future of the USA national soccer side, and he certainly has the ability to prove the critics right. Jeffrey is the player with the acrimonious title of “Stupidest Pre-Game Superstition” in which he has an egg and cauliflower sandwich with a plum milkshake. Each to their own.

Ashlei Fiore (Manxie_Ash)

Fiore is a strong Swiss centre forward with a good finishing eye for goal. Hasn’t wowed the scoring charts as of yet, but is tipped to become a big man for the future. The only problem is that his favourite music is folk metal, not a popular or normal choice. Imagine KISS wearing farmers clothing.

Dalbsworth Sanchez (Dalbeider)

Sanchez is half-Spanish and half spanner. He is a terrific striker by trade, but lacks any real charisma or charm. The amount of headers he has been made to win has likely affected this, but don’t let his foolish ways trick you. He can score plenty.

Markus Wilsone (mark Wilson27)

Markus is the last striker on the clubs books, and a talented little forward at that. He needs to enjoy, and succeed, in the run he is likely to get, but will need to prove himself to dislodge both Sanchez and Larsson.

Welshpool vs. Sporting Nohope

Friendly

C.Kras

M.van Ink, C.Terkleton, M.Onen, A.van Ben

L.Scott, S.Ramsay-Koroma (M.O’Fara), Gavinho (S.Horstel), J.Shuttlesmith (M.Wilsone)

M.Larsson (A.Fiore), D.Sanchez

And so here we were, ready to begin our pre-season once again. I had decided to go for a simple 4-4-2 formation, Welshpool unlikely to really put up a fight against us. We were a goal up within the first two minutes, Gavinho smashing in a sublime 25 yard freekick to give us the lead. From there we lost our way a little bit, the passing becoming rushed and harried. Nine minutes in and the perfect chance presented itself for us to score a second, Larsson and Shufflesmith combining well to see Sanchez miss an open goal. Larsson went down after just a quarter of an hour, and he seemed unable to carry on. Fiore came on to replace him in a direct switch. Seven minutes later and Ramsay-Koroma was the next to go off injured, not making life any easier. Mike O’Fara came on for him, going to right back whilst van Ben moved to central midfield. The chances came and went for us, some decent attacking play down the right reaping rewards more often than the left. A second goal did come, and from an unlikely source. A corner was bent in by van Ben, and as it bounced around the box it landed at the feet of Onen, who lashed it in to register his first goal. Welshpool were trying their best to reach half time just two down, but it was three just seven minutes before the whistle. Gavinho had a shot saved, the ball rolling out towards Leigh Scott who struck a delicious effort past the keeper.

After a great first half, Gavinho didn’t reappear as he was replaced with Horstel. There were chances early in the half for the score to be 4-0, but Sanchez hit the crossbar with a thumping header while Fiore had a one-on-one saved. Shufflesmith would make way half way into the second half, Wilsone coming on for him. Wilsone was thrust straight into the action thanks to a through ball by Sanchez, but he hit his shot straight at the keeper. He got a second chance to make his mark on the game, and he did so nicely. Fiore broke down the right with a terrific run, and crossed dangerously through the six yard box, Wilsone popping up behind a defender to slide it in for 4-0. The final whistle followed the final goal closely, bringing time on a terrific opening game for Sporting Nohope.

Welshpool 0

Sporting Nohope 4 (Gavinho 1, Onen 36, Scott 39, Wilsone 90)

MOTM: Ashlei Fiore – A terrific cameo from the bench for Fiore, who grabbed two assists to warrant a shot for a starting slot.

Only Ashlei is a pun on your name, Ash. Most names either have a real name/username twist. Fiore was just a logical Swiss choice.

V.Bobblesmith, S.Horstel (Gavinho), C.Satioez, A.Essien

A.Fiore, D.Sanchez (J.Shufflesmith)

After their removals last week, Ramsay-Koroma (two months) and Larsson (three weeks) were given the bad news of their injuries.

After the happiness at having won in our opening friendly against Welshpool, we upped the level of opposition as we welcomed Airdrie United to Rich Tea Alley. We started smoothly, keeping possession of the ball well, Fiore missing an early chance. Airdrie were much more drilled than Welshpool had been, but they crumbled when Sanchez took a run at the defence. His shot struck the post though, much to disappointment of the home fans. Sanchez wore the brunt of all attacks we mustered, and he fluffed chance after chance. Chesterton took a nasty knock half hour in, O’Fara replacing him in a straight swap. We took the lead when Horstel smacked a thunderous thirty yard drive goalwards, the keeper spilling it into his own goal but the German taking the plaudits for it. Just a few minutes and the lead had doubled, Sanchez working the defence into a frenzy before playing it to Fiore who had ghosted round the back, his finish crisp and sweet. Another few minutes was all it took for us to work a third, Horstel playing a delicious through ball to Sanchez, who finally took a calm finish into his stride for his first of the pre-season.

Two players didn’t emerge for the second half, Gavinho replacing Horstel while van Ink came on for Aguero. He second half saw Satioez as a man on a mission, the winger smashing a terrific shot off the crossbar right before Essien then did exactly the same with a rebound effort from a corner. Fiore was proving himself such an important player in the attacking moves, and he grabbed another assist when he played in Essien, who shot oddly from a tight angle, but the keeper fumbled it into his own goal for the second time in the game. Sanchez was beginning to look tired, so he made way for Shufflesmith on 66 minutes. Fiore nodded one in on 70 minutes, but it was ruled out rightly for offside. There was to be a late goal for the substitute, Terkleton unlucky to see his header saved, Shufflesmith happy to pounce on the rebound and poke it home for our fifth. A late foul in the box saw a penalty given to Sporting, and the boys opted to let Terkleton take it after his unluckiness earlier in the game. He struck it finely to notch the sixth and put extra gloss on an already decent win for us.

Sporting Nohope 6 (Horstel 34, Fiore 40, Sanchez 45, Essien 65, Shufflesmith 85, Terkleton pen92)

Airdrie United 0

MOTM: Ashlei Fiore – Well, he certainly made his first start count with a superlative performance leading the line with Sanchez, a goal and assist the reward for his efforts.

Love it!

Good to see someone taking on the monopolised FMS market and its good to see that mr Satioez can be a man on a mission when he isnt being so lazy.

"He once beat up another player for simply stating that his pass was too far in front of him." - Yep, that could be me quite easily. Come to think of it... have you been spying on me?

Sporting Nohope vs. Cardiff City

Friendly

Y.Spavlova

S.Cibala-Aguero, C.Terkleton, M.O’Fara, A.van Ben (M.Onen)

V.Bobblesmith, Gavinho, A.Fiore (S.Horstel), A.Essien (L.Scott)

M.Wilsone (C.Satioez), D.Sanchez (J.Shufflesmith)

Cardiff were going to give us our biggest test in this pre-season, but they would also be providing us with our final one too. Fiore starts again, but is moved to the wing in attempt to get the most out of his creative capabilities.

We didn’t start that well, and Spavlova was forced into a monumental save from Bothroyd’s close range header. We struck back in timely fashion though, and Essien played a delicious ball through to Sanchez, who took a touch before calmly hitting it in off the post. We hit Cardiff again on the break, and despite not having a whole shed load of pace, he raced away from Mark Hudson, shrugging him off and firing the ball low for 2-0. Van Ben picked up an injury though, and Onen was the man who did just that. Sanchez secured his hat-trick after just half an hour, Wilsone working space well before sneaking a ball through, the Spaniard stroking it delightfully in a tight gap. Cardiff’s Bothroyd secured a goal for his side before half time, but it was chalked off for a foul on O’Fara.

Essien didn’t make the second half, Leigh Scott his replacement. One minute in and we had notched our fourth, Sanchez holding the ball up nicely to play Fiore in, the hotshot finishing with ease for another goal. It became evident as the game wore on that Sanchez is going to be our key this season, his fourth proof as he shrugged off four men before lashing it in. A triple substitution came next, Sanchez, Wilsone and Fiore making way for Satioez, Shufflesmith and Horstel. We had the chances to secure a sixth, Satioez and O’Fara both squandering chances to do just that. It did come though, and in truly stunning fashion. Cibala-Aguero stood over a freekick on the edge of the area, and hit it so hard past Enckelman, that it forced itself in off his palms. His celebration dance was just weird though. We could and maybe might have had more, but in a friendly it just wasn’t required. We should really walk League One this season.

Sporting Nohope 6 (Sanchez 3, 11, 27, 65, Fiore 47, Cibala-Aguero 77)

Cardiff City 0

MOTM: Dalbsworth Sanchez – Four goals for any striker in any match is a sure-fire way to get noticed. On this performance it has become clear that Sanchez is likely to be instrumental in the goal scoring this season.

Saturday 8th August 2009 – The Memorial Stadium

Bristol Rovers vs. Sporting Nohope

League One (1/46)

Y.Spavlova

S.Cibala-Aguero, C.Terkleton, F.Panpare, M.van Ink

V.Bobblesmith, Gavinho, J.Shufflesmith, A.Essien (A.Fiore)

M.Larsson, D.Sanchez

There were two injuries from the Cardiff friendly, Gavinho (ten days) and Arsenio van Ben (four weeks) the two victims of Riccy Scimeca. Gavinho reached fitness though, and kept his place in the squad. Despite his great pre-season, Fiore is dropped to the bench.

We started the much better side, Essien flashing a shot just wide of the goal. We took the lead just four minutes in though, Shufflesmith breaking the defence before a half hearted challenge from the goalkeeper. He missed, and Jeff had just a simple tap in to seal the goal. It didn’t take us long to register our second goal, Sanchez holding the ball up for Gavinho to run onto, the Brazilian coolly finishing a solid run through the box. Shufflesmith could have made it three after being breaking an offside trap, but he was squashed out by all four defenders before he could shoot. The half moved along at a quick pace, and we were rarely troubled by the Bristol Rovers attack, something I was pleased about. Sanchez made it 3-0 eight minutes before half time, Larsson playing him in before a simple finish for Sanchez. We were now completely in the driving seat so I toned the attacking intent down quite a bit.

Half time brought a deserved break for us, and more so for Bristol. Essien hadn’t looked happy in the game, so Fiore came on to replace him. It took eight minutes for Fiore to get a touch, but it was an important one. He took the ball in his stride after a cleverly planned clearance by Aguero. He hit his shot straight at the keeper though, kicking himself for wasting a viable chance. Sanchez was also chastising himself as he struck the post from twenty yards, his shot hitting an obscene angle and bouncing away from all red shirts. Bristol piped up a little bit late in the half, both Coles and Duffy firing shots just wide of Spavlova’s post. A late injury for Shufflesmith saw another substitute, Leigh Scott taking his spot. Fiore had one last chance in the game to make his mark and push for a starting place, but he hit the post from five yards and with an open net. Still, we managed a very nice win on the opening day to get our season under way.

Bristol Rovers 0

Sporting Nohope 3 (Shufflesmith 5, Gavinho 8, Sanchez 38)

MOTM: Michael Larsson – Michael had an excellent game in leading the line with Sanchez, and while he may not have scored, he set two up making his contribution imperative. Exactly what we expected and needed from him.

Peterborough United vs. Sporting Nohope

League Cup 1st Round

Y.Spavlova

S.Cibala-Aguero, C.Terkleton, M.Onen, B.Chesterton

A.van Ben, Gavinho, S.Horstel

M.Larsson, D.Sanchez, A.Fiore

Shufflesmith’s injury from the Bristol Rovers match was not as bad as first expected, a four week break period being issued by the physio. I also went for a slight change of formation in this game, playing both Fiore and Larsson out wide, but with instructions to get up alongside Sanchez when we have the ball. We aren’t expected to win this game, so the time to experiment is now. We would also be without Bobblesmith, who has earned a call-up to the USA national side.

Neither we nor Peterborough could get the game started, and it took us awhile to string more than four passes together in the torrential rain. We did take the lead with our first effort on target as Onen popped up at the near post with a thumping header from a Gavinho freekick. We held the ball well after the goal, Gavinho running proceedings from the midfield while Terkleton kept everything ship shape at the back. Peterborough had a chance to go a goal up, Mackail-Smith forcing Spavlova to dive, but not worrying him enough into a save. There wasn’t much in the way of goalmouth action for the rest of the half, and the whistle brought a chance for a breather.

I decided against any substitutes for the second half, and it seemed the wise option as we began the half in the same fashion that we had left the first. The second half failed to get either side firing, right up until Mackail-Smith hit the crossbar with a stunning drive from twenty yards. It rattled us, and we become much more complacent in our play. Onen almost turned villain when a penalty appeal came up against him, the referee disagreeing with the home crowd boos. I decided to pull Chesterton out of the game with him being on a yellow and completely getting outplayed by Mackail-Smith. As the half came to its conclusion, we were really struggling to hold on, but in turn the pushing from Peterborough allowed us to hit them on the counter. Onen and Sanchez broke with the ball, and while Onen missed his shot, Sanchez happily turned in the rebound. It was a nice way to end a rainy night in Peterborough.

Peterborough United 0

Sporting Nohope 2 (Onen 19, Sanchez 92)

MOTM: Mack Onen – A superb defensive performance for Mack, especially when coming up against Mackail-Smith after Chesterton failed to do so. The goal capped off a remarkable day for the youngster, a day when he could even have had two.

Sporting Nohope vs. Oldham Athletic

League One (2/46)

Y.Spavlova

M.van Ink, C.Terkleton, M.Onen (S.Cibala-Aguero), M.O’Fara

L.Scott, Gavinho, V.Bobblesmith, A.Fiore

M.Larsson, D.Sanchez (C.Satioez)

Our excellent victory over Peterborough gave us an even tougher away tie against Bolton in the next round, while we were given a bye for this round of the Johnstone Paint Trophy. I made a few changes to relieve some tired legs from the midweek game, and reverted back to the 4-4-2. Bobblesmith made the squad after returning from his USA excursion, but having failed to earn his first cap.

Leigh Scott had the home fans on their feet when he struck the crossbar with the first shot of the game, and he was unlucky that it didn’t bounce in. We took the lead when Gavinho turned twenty yards out, ball at feet, and lashed a right footed shot into the roof of the net, a completely stunning goal by the Brazilian. There was a setback though when Onen picked up a thigh injury, Cibala-Aguero coming on in his place. It was 2-0 before long though, Fiore smashing in a thirty yard freekick daisycutter, much to the delight of Gavinho who was quickly becoming long shot king. Larsson made it three with an excellent solo effort, the striker taking it around a defender before lashing across goal with his right foot. Oldham tried their best to make it to half time just three down, but Fiore was determined to make it four and he did so with a smooth finish from just inside the area. A minute later and Oldham were alive, Tyson squeezing a goal in from between the two centre backs.

Half time was welcoming for Oldham, but for us we just needed to make sure we didn’t go conceding anymore silly goals. Larsson was the first to try for goal in the second half, but his shot was harried and sailed harmlessly wide. The half seemed to have turned stagnant, but while we were three goals safe I felt a substitute couldn’t harm anything. Sanchez was the man to go, having contributed little, and Satioez came on for him. He had an instant impact as his first touch from a goalkick and through ball played Larsson in, and his finish was exquisite as it nestled in the roof of the net. There wasn’t much else for the fans, but they should be happy that we managed to seal such a massive win in our first home game of the season.

Sporting Nohope 5 (Gavinho 3, Fiore 15, 45, Larsson 28, 70)

Oldham Athletic 1 (Tyson 45+2)

MOTM: Michael Larsson – Michael is proving himself to be the number one striker, and his two goal haul today, along with his assist made him get noticed. It was a terrific performance.

Sporting Nohope vs. Charlton Athletic

League One (3/46)

Y.Spavlova

A.van Ben, C.Terkleton, M.Onen, M.O’Fara

L.Scott, Gavinho, S.Ramsay-Koroma (Cibala-Aguero), M.Wilsone

M.Larsson, D.Sanchez (C.Satioez)

The victory over Oldham is still in the fans’ heads, and rightly so. Today we welcome back Ramsay-Koroma to first team action after his injury in pre-season. McGeorge is the new man on the treatment table, a back strain keeping him out for two weeks. Charlton should provide sterner competition though.

The early proceedings went Charlton’s way, Mooney forcing a save from Spavlova in terrific fashion. We were the ones who took the lead though, Koroma playing Sanchez in, the striker completely fooling his marker before nestling the ball into the corner. Sadly Koroma once again picked up injury, and we had to take him off, Aguero the man for the job. Deon Burton should have levelled the game, but he fired oddly wide from a great amount of space. Charlton will be kicking themselves as they had seven shots on target before half time, but they just could not beat Spavlova. He pulled off some absolutely terrific saves to keep us in front at half time.

The second half began with much of the same from both sides, but Sporting began the better as they attacked down the wings. We doubled our lead mainly through luck, Gavinho smacking a rasping effort off the post, Leigh Scott on hand to stroke home the rebound past the helpless keeper. Spavlova was beaten a few minutes later, but rightly so as Peter Kopteff curled in a delightful freekick. Sanchez picked up a late injury and needed replacing with Satioez. Larsson scored what seemed like the decisive goal ten minutes from time, but it was ruled out for offside. We secured a late penalty, Larsson making up for his earlier offside. Cibala-Aguero came up for it, and he struck it nicely past Elliot for our third. It was another excellent result for us as we strive for promotion.

Sporting Nohope 3 (Sanchez 11, Scott 57, Cibala-Aguero pen86)

Charlton Athletic 1 (Kopteff 64)

MOTM: Yury Spavlova – An absolutely exceptional goalkeeping display, one that even Yashin would be proud of. Yury made save after save, and his three time point blank save in the first half was truly the stuff of greatness.

Yeovil Town vs. Sporting Nohope

League One (4/46)

C.Kras

S.Cibala-Aguero, C.Terkleton, F.Panpare, M.O’Fara

L.Scott, Gavinho, S.Horstel, C.Satioez

M.Larsson, M.Wilsone (A.Fiore)

There were a few changes as we made the trip to Huish Park, Horstel, Panpare, Aguero and Satioez all coming in to the first team. Another change was the inclusion of Kras, Spavlova being given a rest after his decent run as of late, especially last week’s stunning performance.

We lashed out at Yeovil from the off, Panpare and Wilsone both having shots saved superbly by the home keeper. Satioez set himself up early on as the main creative force on our side, but if things didn’t go through him then we looked a little lacklustre. The game was actually devoid of any goal mouth action after the initial period, but the disdain was compounded when Satioez looped a header over the keeper, only to see it cannon off the bar. We had the chances; we just couldn’t do anything with them.

The second half started with a whimper, neither side really making a push forward in a plea for the victory. Horstel went close with a long range lobbed effort, but it was more than speculative at best. The deadlock was finally broken when Gavinho played the ball to Larsson’s feet, who instinctively flicked it through the defence for Satioez to run on to. His finish was crisp, hitting the bottom corner with precision. We had a second just six minutes later, the same principle applying again, with Larsson flicking it for Satioez. This time he barged through a defender before lashing the ball home with some real venom. He could have had a hat-trick, but his header was saved on the line and cleared by Yeovil. It did arrive for him, and deservedly so. It was an exact copy of the second goal, and just as stunning. Fiore was meant as a late introduction for Wilsone, who hadn’t performed noticeably during the match, but just before he went off, Satioez picked him out at the backpost, and the German had a simple tap in. By this point the floodgates had well and truly caved in, Satioez latching on to a deep long punt forward, and deftly chipping the ball over the onrushing keeper for his fourth of the day. Gavinho could have had a late goal, but his thirty yard stunner careened back off the bar, leaving Satioez the hero of the day.

Yeovil Town 0

Sporting Nohope 5 (Satioez 61, 67, 75, 87, Wilsone 80)

MOTM: Christian Satioez – Stunning is the word that can describe the performance put on by Satioez today. Four goals and an assist meant he had a hand in every goal, leaving him pushing for a permanent starting slot. Not bad for a winger.

No, but seeing as my 3 assists were all for your goals you couldn't have got to 4 without me. Ergo I'm better than you :D

Bolton Wanderers vs. Sporting Nohope

League Cup 2nd Round

Y.Spavlova

S.Cibala-Aguero, C.Terkleton, F.Panpare, M.O’Fara

L.Scott, Gavinho, V.Bobblesmith, C.Satioez (A.Essien)

M.Larsson, A.Fiore

This would definitely be one of the hardest games of our season so far, and potentially all season if we went out. A victory would cement us as a real threat this season, if we hadn’t already by crushing the teams we had played.

We started brightly, Larsson and Gavinho firing shots just wide from distance. Sixteen minutes was all it took for us, and we scored a slightly lucky goal. Fiore fired in a decent freekick, the wall blocking it and it landing at Panpare’s feet, the defender poking it home for his first goal. We suffered a setback when last week’s hot performer Satioez went off injured, Essien replacing him. He almost scored with his first touch, a stunning 30 yard drive saved onto the bar and bouncing down onto the line. Bolton had the chance to level the tie before half time, Kevin Davies nodding over from a good position.

The second half started like expected, with Bolton dominating everything they possibly could. We struggled to get out of our own half with the ball actually at our feet, but Bolton were failing to take advantage with their chances. Gardner had a shot saved well by Spavlova, and the Russian then saved superbly from Postiga. The shots began to fire in from all angles, Steinsson and Gardner both testing Spavlova. He was once again called into action by Postiga, Yury tipping his deft shot just wide of the post. By now we were beginning to hang on, Davies missing a free header from three yards at the back post saving us any trouble for the short term. With just seconds on the clock Bolton were chucking everything at us that they had, Yury saving twice while Davies missed a sitter. We did everything we could, and one final clearance by Terkleton saw the end. The whistle signalled the beginning of a massive party for such a huge win.

Bolton Wanderers 0

Sporting Nohope 1 (Panpare 17)

MOTM: Mike O’Fara – There weren’t any real standout performers from the game, but Mike did excellently in keeping the backline together and present. His control over Ricardo Gardner was admirable, and his general defensive play kept us firmly in control.

Gets better for you, Dal.

I've just realised that the charts were meant to come after this game. So, ignore everything from this match except the result! :D

Sporting Nohope vs. Carlisle United

League One (5/46)

Y.Spavlova

S.Cibala-Aguero, C.Terkleton, F.Panpare, M.O’Fara

L.Scott, S.Ramsay-Koroma (Gavinho), S.Horstel, V.Bobblesmith

M.Larsson, D.Sanchez

The stunning victory over Bolton had left us as the only League One side in the competition, and the lowest ranked team left. That in itself could be viewed as an achievement, and the draw gave us a winnable home tie against Swansea. The more disappointing news was that after getting his season started superbly, Satioez would be out for four weeks with a twisted knee. Shufflesmith returns though, so every cloud...

It was Carlisle who almost drew first blood, Anyinsah forcing a superb diving save from Spavlova, Kavanagh wasting the rebound. Sanchez scored the first goal of the game, but it was ruled out for offside to his dismay. Our first real chance came courtesy of last match game winner Panpare, the centre back rising highest to just head over the bar. Sanchez looked the more likely to put us in front, and it finally happened when Scott played a deft through ball to him, the striker doing his job and slotting it home nicely. There wasn’t much else to discuss from the first half, we were happy to go in leading. We now had the chance to push on for a second and secure another win.

Unbelievably the first chance we had went in, Spavlova’s goalkick going over everyone and finding Sanchez, who lobbed the keeper with a header. He was ruled offside though, meaning he could have potentially have had a hat-trick. Perennially injured Koroma had to come off early in the half, Gavinho replacing the Southern walking wound. We could have had our second, thanks to some delicious passing play, but Gavinho’s shot rolled across the face of goal, itching for a tap in. It would be Gavinho who set the second up though, his little run into the box from the left hand side ending with a chipped pass to Sanchez, who planted a nice, simple header into the bottom corner. Spavlova was forced to make a save when Aguero gifted the ball stupidly in our own box, but he did save very well. We became extremely sloppy after scoring the second, our passing and movement a little dodgy. Horstel finished Carlisle off on the counter attack, his shot going in off the post from just inside the area. Kavanagh stunned the home crowd with a thirty yard peach that left Spavlova stranded, but it mattered little in the long run.

Sporting Nohope 3 (Sanchez 36, 63, Horstel 85)

Carlisle United 1 (Kavanagh 86)

MOTM: Dalbsworth Sanchez – Supremely good performance from up top today, and his two goals helped keep us in the driving seat. Also made good contributions in the rest of our attacking play.
