Sporting Nohope vs. Milton Keynes Dons

League One (20/46)

Y.Spavlova

A.van Ben, M.Onen, C.Terkleton, S.Cibala-Aguero

L.Scott, C.Satioez, V.Bobblesmith, Gavinho

J.Shufflesmith, M.Larsson (M.Wilsone)

We welcomed back Cibala-Aguero to the side after his injury and World Cup escapades, while Bobblesmith comes in for Horstel who drops to the bench.

Twenty seconds was all it took for us to bang our first goal in, Shufflesmith setting up Satioez to slot home a cool and simple finish. Shufflesmith then should also have scored himself, his own through ball setting himself up, but his volley was dragged just wide of goal. We grabbed our second with some great skill, Satioez giving the ball to Larsson, who beat three defenders in the box before lashing his shot into the back of the net. Both Larsson and Satioez flashed headers over the bar before Shufflesmith forced a save from the keeper, our attacking prowess too much for MK Dons. They did pull one back through Jermaine Easter, the long serving striker tapping into an empty goal after Wilbraham had his shot saved. The lead was back to two before long, Bobblesmith playing a through ball to Shufflesmith, the other American tapping it in with a cool finish. Not long after Shufflesmith wasted a fine chance for his second before Gavinho smacked in a terrific forty yard freekick, much to everyone’s surprise. MK Dons seemed very welcome for half time.

We started the second half being kind to MK Dons, preventing them from playing whilst sitting back comfortably. They screwed themselves over though when Matthias Doumbe went in studs first on Larsson, getting a red in the process but injuring our key striker. Wilsone was his replacement in a straight swap. We had some chances in the second half, though it wasn’t really a half of interest as neither of us went for it. Onen headed one over while Gavinho shot one well over from a fair distance. MK Dons had a chance too, Gobern hitting the bar before Spavlova made a world class stop from the follow up. Onen had one final headed chance from a freekick, but it went wide and from there the game had died and we took another massive win.

Sporting Nohope 4 (Satioez 1, Larsson 10, Shufflesmith 28, Gavinho 40)

Milton Keynes Dons 1 (Easter 21, Doumbe s/off 61)

MOTM: Jeffrey Shufflesmith – Jeff is slowly re-integrating himself into first team action after a mass amount of injuries, and he’s now nicely finding his scoring boots with two in two.

Dagenham & Redbridge vs. Sporting Nohope

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy South Semi Final

Y.Spavlova

A.van Ben, M.Onen (M.O’Fara), C.Terkleton, S.Cibala-Aguero

L.Scott, C.Satioez, V.Bobblesmith, Gavinho

J.Shufflesmith, M.Wilsone

We were utterly distraught at the loss of Larsson in the last match, and it’s emerged that he is going to be out for two months. He joins Fiore (three weeks) and Sanchez (eight weeks).

We started strongly enough against Dagenham, the League Two side struggling to win the ball in midfield. Bobblesmith fired an early over the bar, Onen doing the same just a couple of minutes after. The American midfielder did however set the first goal up, his pass tightly squeezing through the two centre backs, Wilsone running onto it and slotting it home with ease. We continued to pressure Dagenham, Wilsone miss-kicking a free ball in the box that he should have done so much better with. It began to look like we wouldn’t try for a second in the first half, but a very clever cross from Shufflesmith found Satioez at the back, the winger calmly finishing the move to make it 2-0. We received a little bit of luck before the whistle went, Arber hitting the bar with his header.

We began the half as Dagenham left it, Onen hitting the post with a header from a freekick. We were a little sloppy in our opening play, constantly losing the ball before putting ourselves under pressure. We lost Onen to injury ten minutes into the half, O’Fara coming on for him. We struggled to muster any good attacking play, a Gavinho long the shot the best we could come up with. Bobblesmith did the same a few minutes later, and with that I made a change, Essien coming on for the American midfielder. Essien added a little grit to the midfield, but even his shots were slightly wayward at times. Gavinho had an excellent shot saved by Roberts, and as it looked increasingly unlikely that we were going to manage another, Dagenham shot us down a little when Jon Nurse lobbed Spavlova. We began to look ever so slightly weak, van Ben picking up a yellow for taking down McCrory from behind. By now Dagenham were all over us, and when the final whistle went, we felt lucky to have won and escape extra time. We made it to the South area final where we will meet MK Dons.

Dagenham & Redbridge 1 (Nurse 81)

Sporting Nohope 2 (Wilsone 14, Satioez 40)

MOTM: Arsenio van Ben – A very resolute defensive performance from us today, van Ben the standout performer in the backline. His yellow card was a slight dent on a very good game for the multi-position specialist.

Saturday 19th December 2009 – The Bescot Stadium

Walsall vs. Sporting Nohope

League One (21/46)

Y.Spavlova

A.van Ben, F.Panpare, C.Terkleton, S.Cibala-Aguero

L.Scott, C.Satioez, S.Horstel, Gavinho

J.Shufflesmith, M.Wilsone

With three of our strikers out, Larsson (eight weeks), Sanchez (eight weeks) and Fiore (three weeks), we had little much to change around with up front. Panpare returns to the squad in place of the injured Onen. Horstel also returns, the German taking Bobblesmith’s place.

We started off nice enough in this game, Shufflesmith sending a warning shot goalwards very early on. Panpare also had a chance early on, his header from a corner finding nothing but the crowd. Our passing was excellent, but some of the players were guilty on occasion of just being too greedy and preventing ourselves from scoring. Wilsone was just as guilty of that, his shots ranging from the wild to the downright pointless on occasion. We were knocking on the door plenty, and Horstel opened the door with a pinpoint corner that Panpare powered home for us. We sort of turned off a little towards the end of the half, a van Ben effort the only thing that went close for us before we headed down the tunnel.

The second half began in the same annoying greed like fashion that the first ended, Gavinho firing over a wild shot from nigh on forty yards. Our defending was pretty excellent though, Panpare having a strong game at the back. For awhile we looked a little lacklustre but eventually some flair prevailed when a rebounded Shufflesmith shot landed at the feet of Satioez who struck it past the keeper from a tight angle to put us two up. We never looked likely to lose the game, even at one-nil, and with two goals we looked even stronger. We dominated the midfield very easily, Horstel instrumental in keeping the whole unit working as one. Satioez flashed another shot just wide of goal while Wilsone wasted a one-on-one rather sloppily, but it didn’t really matter to us as we ran out easy winners.

Walsall 0

Sporting Nohope 2 (Panpare 35, Satioez 67)

MOTM: Fanfare Panpare – Extremely strong at the back with Terkleton, but his goal elevated him to man of the match over his partner. His defensive pairing with Terkleton shouldn’t go unnoticed as we have only conceded a handful of goals when they play.

Hartlepool United vs. Sporting Nohope

League One (22/46)

Y.Spavlova

B.Chesterton (M.O’Fara), F.Panpare, C.Terkleton, S.Cibala-Aguero

L.Scott, C.Satioez (S.Ramsay-Koroma), S.Horstel (A.Essien), Gavinho

J.Shufflesmith, M.Wilsone

The three strikers are still out, and we lost van Ben in the last for him picking up a fifth yellow card. He only misses the one match, but Chesterton replaces him at right back. Other than that we can make no changes, especially up front at the moment, so the squad remains largely unchanged and having won decently in the last game I felt no need to anyway.

Wilsone had the first real chance for us, a blistering shot from just outside the area that the keeper did well to save. Hartlepool came closest to opening the scoring though, Fredriksen testing Spavlova with a deft shot from a tight angle. The Russian did well for us in that instance, but we regained our power over the home side, Wilsone and Gavinho firing shots wide of goal. It all slowed down a little bit for both sides, but eventually we grabbed the opener when Wilsone turned his marker and smashed a rocket of a shot past the keeper from twenty yards. We dominated right up until the half end, Terkleton missing a fine headed chance. Horstel had the last chance of the half, a one-on-one that he missed rather poorly, the spanner.

Horstel tried to make amends at the start of the half, but made matters worse with a rather pointless thirty yard shot that almost killed a pigeon. Gavinho made a much better job when he hit the post, but still the second was elusive for us. We got extremely complacent as the half wore on and Hartlepool pegged us back, a deep cross from Fredriksen finding Bjornsson, who headed it in from about a yard out. We should have been immediately back in it had Wilsone not fluffed another chance for us, so I made the decision for a double sub. Essien and O’Fara came on for Horstel and Chesterton who both picked up knocks. Satioez then made matters worse by getting injured aswell, Ramsay-Koroma coming on for him. The chances were still coming our way, but we just couldn’t make them count. Terkleton missed another header he should have done better with, before picking up a yellow for a vicious tug (something he isn’t too unfamiliar with). He missed one final header from a set piece before the end of the game, leaving us with just a point from a disappointing game against out of form opposition.

Hartlepool United 1 (Bjornsson 54)

Sporting Nohope 1 (Wilsone 37)

MOTM: Markus Wilsone – The best of what we had in all truth. We lacked something in todays match, but Wilsone still managed a fairly decent shift. His goal was a thing of beauty, but he should have done more with the easier chances. We’ll put it down to youth.

You missed the genius, Gav old boy. HAD the shot killed the pigeon, it would have hit with such angle and spin as to curl 'round the keeper and into the far upper 90. My initial approach angle was just off about three degrees. Frankly, you shouldn't expect so much, as I was doing all of the physics in my head as I set up the effort.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Sporting Nohope

League One (23/46)

Y.Spavlova

B.Chesterton (M.O’Fara), A.van Ben, C.Terkleton, S.Cibala-Aguero

L.Scott (V.Bobblesmith), C.Satioez, S.Horstel, Gavinho (A.Essien)

J.Shufflesmith, M.Wilsone

We had finally reached the half way point in the season, match twenty three. We are still unbeaten aswell, an extraordinary feat for the whole team. Sadly we now have five on the injured list; our three strikers are joined by Onen (three weeks) and Panpare (four weeks). Arsenio returns at centre back cover.

Brighton, currently in fifth place, were expected to provide us with some stern competition, but we were almost our own undoing at times. Aguero cleared one off the line while van Ben put in a superb last ditch tackle to keep Spavlova away from the action. Satioez was guilty of not putting us in front, the winger being through on goal and hitting his shot straight at the keeper. Brighton could also have been in front, Calderon firing a freekick off of Spavlova’s bar. Wilsone got on everyone’s nerves when he walked past the defenders, only needing to smash it into the goal. But from nowhere the Brighton keeper smothered the ball from behind him. There were two men who could be relied on, Gavinho playing in Horstel with a lovely through ball, the German slotting it away nicely, like his compatriot should have. Minutes later it was two nil, Wilsone with a small pass to Shufflesmith, the American striking the ball in off the post superbly from a tight angle. We headed into half time nicely in the lead now, and unlikely to lose it come the second half.

In the second half I felt we would need a third, just to be certain, and Horstel almost grabbed it in style with a bending thirty yard effort that smacked into the side netting. Our attacking play was great, and we looked decent on all areas of the field. We did however pick up three yellows in silly instances, Gavinho, Scott and van Ben the culprits of silly play. We held all the possession, virtually keeping Brighton out of the game completely. Wilsone was next to pick up a yellow card for a reckless lunge on Painter, before Chesterton and Aguero picked up more yellows for the team with some more silly tackling. I’m not sure what has got them so dirty, so to be safe I made a triple substitution to at least prevent three of them getting sent off. We grabbed a third quite late in the half in a rare foray forward, Satioez lifting the ball over the defence for Wilsone to run onto, the striker losing his marker before slotting the ball home nicely. It wasn’t long before Essien grabbed a sexy fourth goal, the midfielder skilling the defenders before lashing a low and powerful shot across goal. The final whistle was welcoming for Brighton, and despite winning four-nil, I was slightly disappointed with the amount of fouls we committed today. Five yellows isn’t my idea of good play.

Brighton & Hove Albion 0

Sporting Nohope 4 (Horstel 38, Shufflesmith 40, Wilsone 80, Essien 84)

MOTM: Christian Satioez – An inspired performance by the winger, his contribution excellent and his assist the cap on a fine game for him. One of the most solid players at the minute, and in the exclusive club of knowing his spot is fully his for now.

Monday 28th December 2009 – Rich Tea Alley

Sporting Nohope vs. Southend United

League One (24/46)

Y.Spavlova

B.Chesterton (M.van Ink), A.van Ben, C.Terkleton, M.O’Fara

L.Scott, C.Satioez, S.Horstel, Gavinho, A.Essien (V.Bobblesmith)

J.Shufflesmith

We now have just the solitary striker available, Sanchez (seven weeks), Larsson (seven weeks), Fiore (six days) and Wilsone (two weeks) all on the physio table. Panpare (four weeks) and Onen (two weeks) join them. This leaves us with just Shufflesmith available up front, so Satioez and Horstel are going to move out wide to make a 4-5-1, with Essien coming in for Wilsone.

Southend are on good form at the minute, but being unbeaten in 23 made us look unstoppable for the moment. I was worried about our attacking, having never been a fan of one striker, but we started nicely. Gavinho sent a early header over the bar, Horstel and Chesterton both hitting the side netting with decent shots aswell. Shufflesmith was instrumental in the first goal, his pass finding Horstel easily, the German playmaker stroking the ball into the roof of the net with an assured finish. Just six minutes later and Horstel returned the favour with a square ball for Shufflesmith, the striker slotting it home nicely for our second. Terkleton got lucky before half time, his foul in the box going unnoticed, but van Ben then missed a sitter, heading off the bar with an open goal right before him. An error in the Southend defence right before half time allowed Horstel to break in behind the defence from the right, and he fooled the keeper before slotting home his second. The German is likely to be heavy favourite for man of the match already.

The second half didn’t start as nicely for us, van Ben lucky to not see red for a reckless lunge, yellow the order of the day. We then experienced a little trouble, Sears hitting the bar with a lobbed shot that Spavlova simply didn’t have under control. The second half was nowhere near as exciting as the first had turned out, Chesterton picking up our second yellow for failing to handle Sears. Essien closely followed with a stupid tackle on Herd, and once again we had suddenly turned into a violent outfit. Chesterton was beaten for a second time by Sears, this time in the box, as the on-loan striker scored a header from inside the six yard box. We could have had a fourth not long after, but Gavinho’s rasping effort flew off the post. Shufflesmith grabbed the second goal he deserved late on, pouncing on another Southend error in the box and slotting the ball home in the bottom corner. I kept safe the moment after the goal, Bobblesmith and van Ink coming on for the booked Chesterton and Essien. Shufflesmith almost had his hat-trick before the end, his header going under the keeper but somehow being hacked off the line just in time. Still, four goals for a second game running was a nice way to put the Hartlepool result behind us completely.

Sporting Nohope 4 (Horstel 21, 45, Shufflesmith 33, 86)

Southend United 1 (Sears 65)

MOTM: Stefan Horstel – Stefan completely dominated the right hand side and made that whole part of the pitch his own. Two goals and assist is evidence of that, and today showed us his importance as a playmaker.

Hahaha. I think you'll find that Essential is the English translation of 'Michael Larsson.'

Hear, hear. Those uppity midfielders should be thankful that we star forwards are allowing them to get their moment of glory thanks to our absence. Just wait till we come back...

Sporting Nohope vs. Yeovil Town

League One (25/46)

Y.Spavlova

S.Cibala-Aguero, A.van Ben, C.Terkleton, M.O’Fara

L.Scott, C.Satioez (C.Benjamin), S.Horstel, Gavinho, V.Bobblesmith

J.Shufflesmith

Our injury problems continue to mount, Essien (one week) joining the cripples on the table. We are also without Chesterton who misses this game through yellow card suspension. Bobblesmith and Cibala-Aguero come into the side, leaving us with a lacking amount of first team substitutes now.

We took a nice and well taken early lead when Satioez mauled down the left hand side, his cross bending right over the net and onto the head of O’Fara, the full back arriving from nowhere to power it in. Satioez could have doubled the lead when he skilled his way through the defence, but a smart save kept his shot out. He then had a second bite of the same apple, this time slotting the ball in the tight gap leaving the Yeovil keeper no chance. Gavinho added a nice and simple third with a super placed shot from just outside the area, and we looked so capable of adding more to our tally. Three minutes later Gavinho did the same again, this time with his right foot instead of his left. It was another super goal, and we were absolutely dominating all over the field. Yeovil, for all the capitulating they had done early in the match, managed to forge a chance, but Bowditch sent his header straight into the keepers’ hands. His next effort was better, this time forcing a fingertip save from Spavlova, who seemed glad of the test. Annoyingly Yeovil began to turn dirty, and we lost Satioez to injury. I’m not sure how many more injuries to attackers we can take now. I brought on youngster Benjamin before the half time whistle blew.

The second continued as it had in the last match, van Ben involved again, this time hitting the post with a first time volley from outside the area. We had to sustain some pressure from Yeovil, Spavlova making a top save from Williams but he couldn’t keep out the second shot from Welsh, surely just a consolation for the visitors. The second half wasn’t much fun for the crowd in all truth and it flew by with little of note actually occurring, but van Ben grabbed the goal he deserved, firing in a freekick from just outside the area. Not sure why he was taking it in all honesty, but on this occasion I won’t be complaining. The game livened up come the end, Williams grabbing a second for Yeovil with some real poaching skills, though truthfully Terkleton just switched off. Full time followed not long after, and saw us seal another excellent victory.

Sporting Nohope 5 (O’Fara 1, Satioez 11, Gavinho 20, 23, van Ben 86)

Yeovil Town 2 (Welsh 56, Williams 90)

MOTM: Gavinho – Gavinho’s two well taken goals were the perfect examples of his long shot ability, and his midfield play saw him set up another in a masterclass of Brazilian play.
