Richard Collett
Let me explain the situation that I had at the end of last season. I am Gravesend and have got them to the Premiership. I had three games left Liverpool away in the semi-final second leg of the Champions League (i won the first leg 4-1) and Leicester and Manchester Utd in the league. The league was between me and Man U i had a slight advantage points wise and i really wanted to win the league so i rested my star players for the Liverpool game and got hammered 4-0 losing the tie, i went on to beat Leicester and Man U, using my strongest players, and winning the league, Should I have played my strongest squad against Liverpool and risked losing the league. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.....

ridley99
I would have played your strongest team agains tLiverpool and Man.Utd and rested them all against Leicester this giving them enough time to recover for the final!
Richard Collett
I did think that RIDLEY99 but I didn't want to go into the Man U game needing to beat them to win the league. My team always chokes when They grt to a pressure game.
bbuullddoogg
I think you did the right thing. The league, as they say, is your bread and butter. Resting you players in a game you had a 4-1 lead in is the smartest option. In the end you just didn't quite have the strength in depth required to win the Champions League. I would have done what you did.
Richard Collett
Thanks for agreeing with me, its been eating away at me for ages. Theres always next season, as they say.
ridley99
i agree that you need to improve your fringe players so that they can come in and fill in when needed, ive built up a great squad with FC United. youve just got to look for the young regens and take it from there
SI Staff Marc Vaughan Posted September 13, 2007 SI Staff Share Posted September 13, 2007 You took the decision you did to win the league and that paid off so imho it was the right one.
bbuullddoogg
Even if you'd got to the final there's no guarentee you would have won it. You'd have felt like a right pratt if your decisions resulted in you winning nothing. So put the sleeping pills away and get a good night's rest with a clean conscience ok? Richard Collett
It looks like the old saying of "theres always next season" rang true, as i choked in the league finishing 7th but won the champions league by beating Man U in the final 3-2.
