Forest Scores Dramatic Equaliser, Dumps Hill in Extra Time

A see-saw match that looked to belong to Harrow Hill changed in dramatic fashion when MOM Helder Barbosa scored the dramatic equalizer in the last moments of second half injury time. Nottingham Forest then came up with a match winning goal in Extra Time to send the Larksfield Road faithful home disappointed. Hill stumbled in the opening moments as Paul Murray finished off a sequence that began with Danny French getting caught pushing too far up the pitch. Hill fought back and dominated possession for much of the rest of the match, but it wasn't until Chris Brooks deflected a Jorge Herrera corner past Ron Robert Zieler that they got on the board. Hill then took the lead when Darren Adams put away a beautiful pass from Neil Preece at 87 minutes. Hill couldn't hold off of the Forest rally as Martin Moran found him breaking free of his marking at the far post and Scott Ball had no chance to stop the ball. Hill's tiredness seemed to influence their tepid play in Extra-time. Preece lost the ball and a quick counter-attack saw Moran break through cleanly to score past Ball for the match winning goal.

"We had our chances and should have won this match," muttered Heartwood darkly.

"I thought we were going to after Darren Adams scored, but then we just didn't work hard enough defensively..." commented Gritt.

"Now we face them again on Wednesday here- that should be interesting."

Hill Returns Favor, Henry Brace Leaves Forest Stunned

Still smarting from their loss on Saturday to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup Quarters, Harrow Hill pulled off a stunning fightback as they Julian Henry scored two goals in second half injury time to earn Harrow Hill a 2-1 win at Larksfield Road. Hill had looked the better side throughout the match as they started none of the same players as on Saturday, while most of Forest's lineup had played Saturday. The problem for Hill was they couldn't solve Ron Robert Zieler. The chances were there, but Zieler stopped both Simon Allen and Jimmy 'Silk' Sullivan from close-in on good opportunities. The match remained scoreless at halftime, but Forest gained the lead when a poor clearance from Sam Wallace, making his debut at leftback, allowed Stuart Turner to drive home the rebound after Andrew Evans palmed away a hard shot by Paul Murray. Forest appeared set for the win as Hill just couldn't find a way to score on Zieler. Forest Manager ? then brought in Marcin Klimkiewicz to replace Zieler in the late stages- as he had on Saturday. Klimkiewicz didn't have the answers he had against Hill in the Leauge Cup and Julian Henry deflected a cross from Stuart Dean past him for the equalizer. Henry then earned MOM honours as he took a poor clearance by Kerrea Gilbert and blasted his shot past Klimkiewicz for a dramatic match winning goal.

"Terrific fightback from the boys, they never quit on the match," stated a grinning Gritt.

"Julian Henry came up with two of his biggest goals- great effort on his part," replied Heartwood.

Hill Edges Hammers

Harrow Hill and West Ham played an entertaining match at Upton Park with Hill winning out 2-1 in a closely played tilt. Hill got off on a flyer when Cristian Villalba headed across the goal and Julian Henry drove a shot past David Dodd inside the left post. The Hammers quickly rallied and exerted pressure on the Hill backline. Danny Lynch was doing fine work winning headers, but when Andrew Evans missed picking off a Diego Marangon cross, Paul Foster was there to deflect it past him for the equalizer midway through the first half. West Ham came close to claiming the lead in the opening moments of the second half, only to see Shaun Jenkins clear the Cesar Carignano's flicked header off the line. Henry cemented his MOM status when Michael Jones sent a scorching through ball that put him in free and he fired a rising shot over Dodd as he tried to slide and smother for his brace and 5th goal of the season. Hill had to hang on against heavy pressure from the home side and the good work from the backline supported Evans as he ensured that Hill would take all three points from the close win.

"Julian Henry got off to a slow start this season, but he has been on fire of late," observed Gritt.

"I think it might have been a confidence matter early on, but you are right- he has really stepped up his contributions lately," agreed Heartwood.

"Danny Lynch also showed a lot today."

"I was worried that Danny might not work out, similar to a couple others we have had on center defense, but he really has started playing well in the system now."

Hill Falters Against Newcastle

Harrow Hill appeared to be on their way to a win at Larksfield Road against Newcastle, but faltered late in the second half and wound up with a 2-2 draw after Newcastle converted a penalty kick in injury time. Hill played a strong, opportunistic first half in building a 2-0 halftime lead. Adrian Welch blocked forward a pass and Simon Allen turned it into a goal when he fired a well placed shot past Adrian White. Hill moved ahead 2-0 when Richard Murray laid the ball off and Welch blistered a shot inside the left post. Newcastle applied intense pressure on Hill, but Andrew Evans had a brilliant first half to help keep things tidy going to halftime. Hill played conservatively to open the second half, but started gaining chances as Newcastle sent men forward. Adrian White was dazzling as he kept Hill from building on the lead, including saving a penalty kick by Darren Adams. That would prove crucial as Ian Jackson finally solved Evans and deflected a header past him on a cross from MOM Matt Fisher. Hill still was on track for the win until Danny Lynch was redcarded for a trip just inside the area. Gustavo Adolfo Ortiz calmly converted the penalty kick to earn the visitors a split in the points from the 2-2 draw.

"We just could not get that 3rd goal on White. Jimmy 'Silk' Sullivan just had some great chances, but White made some fantastic saves," muttered Heartwood.

"There were so many things we did right in the match, but then we failed to convert our penalty kick and gave one up that they did- and we're left with a draw," sighed Gritt.

"Bertrand Auriac looks in pretty good shape," observed Gritt.

"For just joining us- yes. Still, I am going to keep him in training and introduce him gradually. He doesn't have to be a saviour here, just play well and fit in well," replied Heartwood.

Hill Cracks Chelsea

Chelsea will certainly feel they deserved better from their match at Larksfield Road, but Harrow Hill was pleased to take away a 2-0 win in a match that was often controlled by the visitors. Hill was helped by unusually inconsistent shooting by Chelsea as some of their best chances were wasted with shots that Andrew Evans did not even move on. Chelsea missed taking the lead several times in the first half, either through Evans' saves or missed shots. Hill took advantage when Jimmy 'Silk' Sullivan benefitted from Alex Lee's hard work. Lee battled Michael Essien for a loose ball and eventually blocked a pass forward to Sullivan. Sullivan let loose with a picture perfect 30 yard curling rocket past Petr Cech to earn Hill a 1-0 lead. Chelsea stormed the Hill end to begin the second half, but was again wasteful with their shots. Hill took some of the heart out of the visitors when Simon Allen made a looping cross and Gary Evans, on for injured Sullivan, put a strong header inside the far left post to make it 2-0. Evans chalked up the clean sheet with the help of MOM Danny Lynch who was superb in the air on the dangerous crosses from Chelsea.

"A nice effort and a great result for us," said an enthusiastic Heartwood.

"We battled from the opening whistle until the end," agreed Gritt.

"Our youngsters on the backline held up better than I hoped today."

Hill Powers Past 'Pool

Harrow Hill came to play today as they crushed visiting Liverpool 5-0 at Larksfield Road. The match was won by Hill in every aspect- fine defense, solid keeping and an excellent offense. Hill got off to a great start when Julian Henry smashed a shot that John Woodward got his hands on, but could not hold onto as it trickled in. Henry made it 2-0 with an early brace after he he slammed home a cross from Danny Lynch. MOM Brian Ball made a terrific cross that allowed Simon Allen an excellent across the goalmouth shot to make it 3-0. Allen capped off a terrific first half as he skipped past a defender to capture an errant pass from Woodward and then chipped the ball over Woodward for his brace and a 4-0 lead at halftime. Hill played conservatively in the second half and removed both Henry and Allen. Gary Evans added the punctuation point to the win after taking a good pass from Richard Murray as he slipped a shot inside the right post. Scott Ball earned the clean sheet in the easy win.

"One of our best matches of the season," said an enthusiastic Heartwood.

"We dominated them in every aspect of play today- even rough tackling," offered Gritt.

"It was great to see the dynamic between Simon Allen and Julian Henry come back today- we hadn't been able to pair them up much of late."

"Also good to see the improving play of Paul Ellis- he is finally rounding back into game shape after missing all that time with injury."

Hill Erases Everton

Though Everton managed a late second half goal to make the match interesting, Harrow Hill controlled a large majority of the play as they wiped out the visiting side 3-1 at Larksfield Road. Hill was off to a flying start when James Bullock, desperately trying to reach unmarked Julian Henry, didn't see the cross coming and deflected it with his shoulder past Kasper Schmeichel for an own goal in the 2nd minute. Hill built on that lead midway through the first half after Neil Clifford tripped Henry in the area. Chris Brooks calmly converted the penalty kick past Schmiechel for his 1st league goal of the season. Everton wanted to quickly rally, but a stifling effort by the Hill midfield kept them from building to the attack. As the match entered the late stages of the second half, Hill seemed to have the match firmly in hand. That feeling changed when Mikel Valero picked up a loose ball after it was deflected by Lee Davis and fired a shot past Andrew Evans to ruin his clean sheet with Valero's 10th goal of the season. Hill didn't panic and promptly put the match away when Dave Turner's long pass found Gary Evans free behind the Everton backline. Evans fired a well placed shot inside the near right post to make the final score 3-1. Danny French earned MOM honours for his play from fullback.

"The match got a bit too interesting when Valero scored," said a relieved Heartwood.

"It was nice to see how we responded- a beautiful counter-attack that Gary Evans finished wonderfully," answered Gritt.

"Evans is making his case for a few starts. He has played some excellent football as a sub of late."

"Danny Lynch is also making a great name for himself- playing regularly through the injuries to Lee Pearson and Paul Ellis. I am confident that trio will develop into one of the best in the EPL."

"The only bad news was that Julian Henry pulled his hamstring. He will miss most of the next month."

"A busy part of our schedule to be lacking him, especially with Jimmy Sullivan also out."

"We might need to bring a forward up from Reserves. Who do you suggest?"

"Gary French is having the best season- he deserves a turn up here."

Hill Battles for Draw at Old Trafford

Despite falling behind in the early going on a terrible bungle by Andrew Evans, Harrow Hill righted themselves and fought back for a 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Hill could have won this match and came close to doing so as they played a fine second half and kept the home side under intense pressure. What Hill couldn't overcome was a completely uncharacteristic mistake by Andrew Evans. Evans came out to play a ball beyond the area and instead of kicking it away, he tried to dribble past Steven Wood. Wood took the ball away from Evans and lofted a shot that just caught the far right post to leave Hill behind in the opening moments of the match. Hill created opportunities in the first half, but failed to challenge Martin Higgins to make the difficult save due to poor shooting. The second half saw an improved Hill effort and the pressure began creating good chances. Higgins made very good saves on Bertrand Auriac and Simon Allen to keep things tidy, but Allen deflected a corner past Higgins for the equalizer midway through the half. Hill hammered away in the late stages, but good tackling by the home side's backline kept them from taking all three points in the match. Hill fullback Shaun Jenkins made it two MOM's in a row for the position as he claimed the honours.

"Good work to even things up, but a terrible choice by Andrew Evans," sighed Heartwood.

"It is difficult to give away bad goals like that against a club the caliber of Manchester United," agreed Gritt.

"At least we took away a split of the points from Old Trafford. I know that would have been a good result in many of our seasons."

"How are Cristian Villalba and Gary Evans?"

"Both will be out a couple weeks. Our injury problems at forward are becoming ridiculous."

"I take it we need at least one- and maybe two from the Reserves?"

"One for sure, might as well bring up two though. Who do you think?"

"Louis Taylor and Simon Howarth. I haven't been playing Taylor, but he has been great in practice lately."

Everton Fights Back to Edge Hill Out of FA Cup

In an impressive display of determination, Everton fought back from trailing twice to edge Harrow Hill 3-2 in their FA Cup 4th Round match at Goodison Park. Hill had gained the lead twice on excellent goals from Darren Adams, but were pegged back twice by Everton. Adams scored at 12 minutes to give Hill the lead, but Keith Watts made a dazzling move past Alan Price with the ball and whipped a shot past Scott Ball. Ball played a sensational first half to keep Hill even with Everton as the home side had piled the pressure on Hill. Hill struck for their second lead in the opening moments of the second half when Adams chipped over Kasper Schmeichel for the 2nd time. It didn't last as Yaya Toure picked up a crazily bouncing loose ball and rifled a 20 yard shot off the inside of the right upright past Ball. Everton then scored the match winner late in the second half when Ashley Middleton crossed and James Bullock deflected the ball past Scott Ball. Hill tried to fight back, but saw Schmeichel come up with a key save against Adams in the waning moments to preserve the win.

"It was a good effort, but our young backline that we featured today made too many mistakes," said Gritt.

"Scott Ball was a life saver in the first half, but ran out of magic," agreed Heartwood.

"It was good to see Darren Adams have a nice match- he needed that, he had been down of late."

Hill Minces Manchester City

In a thoroughly impressive performance, Harrow Hill dissected struggling Manchester City and trounced them 5-0 at Larksfield Road. MOM Simon Allen was brilliant for Hill as he notched 4 goals in the match- including a first half hat-trick. Richard Murray's pretty pass set up Allen nicely and he scored past Gustavo Adolfo Sivadon in the 2nd minute to put Hill away on a flyer. Allen made it a brace midway through the first half when he converted the penalty kick following Kevin Woods tripping Jimmy 'Silk' Sullivan in the area. Murray set up Allen again with another neat pass, but it took Allen two tries to gain the hat-trick as Sivadon stopped his initial shot. Adrian Welch added his 5th goal of the season with a 25 yard free kick early in the second half and Allen capped the scoring with his 4th goal when he deflected a corner from Jorge Herrera past Sivadon late in the second half. Andrew Evans had an easy time completing the clean sheet in the resounding win.

"That was a completely well played match," said Heartwood with admiration.

"One of our best in awhile," admitted Gritt.

"Simon Allen is really developing into one of the finer forwards in the EPL."

"If we can keep getting him the ball with space- he is a terror for opposing backlines."

All Square at Emirates

Harrow Hill survived a first half redcard to battle Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium. Hill came close to winning the match outright, but a late second half equalizer allowed the home side to split the points with their determined visitors. The first half was evenly played, with both keepers doing well. Francisco Guillermo Ochoa showed great mobility in clearing away a couple excellent Hill chances outside his area. Andrew Evans made excellent stops on Guillaume Lasbennes and Chris Gould to keep things scoreless at halftime. Les Beard received his 2nd yellow card at 43 minutes, but Hill showed the ability to take advantage of opportunities in gaining the lead. In the opening moments of the second half, Hill converted a throw-in situation into a goal as Chris Brooks laid the ball off and Bertrand Auriac drilled a shot inside of the left post for his 1st goal at Hill. Hill steadfastly defended their lead and it was clear the home faithful were nervous as things moved into the waning moments. Arsenal struck for the equalizer when Gary Evans made a youthful mistake of not challenging for a long clearing kick. His failure allowed MOM Lee Joyce to loft a centering pass into the area and Paul Barton powered a header past Andrew Evans for the equalizer at 88 minutes.

"I am happy that we earned a point here, but I dearly wanted to take all three," sighed Heartwood.

"We were so close to doing that. Gary Evans just didn't want to challenge and though it was a mistake- I can understand that he also didn't want to give them a free kick from a dangerous location," stated Gritt.

"It turned out badly, but hopefully Evans learns from it."

England Surprises Germany in Friendly

England handed Germany a surprising 3-0 defeat in Berlin as they showed the ability to capitalize on their scoring chances. England got off to fine start as they showed composure in handling the initial German attacks. Martin Higgins made a pair of key saves early in the first half and his steady play was a key component in the win. England struck for the lead at 23 minutes when Chris Gould laid the ball off and Wayne Rooney blistered a shot inside the far right post from beyond the edge of the area past Georg Meyer. It turned into a quickfire double for England after Markus Hoffman tripped Ashley Cole in the area. Andrew Harris calmly converted the penalty kick and it was a 2-0 England lead at halftime. MOM Glen Johnson keyed the clinching goal in the second half with a stellar pass that James Gould rocketed past Meyer from a sharp angle to finish out the scoring as Higgins completed the clean sheet.

"Some may have been surprised by the decisiveness of the result," said England Manager James Heartwood in the press conference. "I prefer to view this as a result that was earned by hard work and execution. We played well on both sides of the ball and finished off the chances we needed too."

Tottenham Tops Hill on Disputed Goal

Harrow Hill lost to Tottenham 1-0 at Larksfield Road in a match where they dominated the visitors for much of the play. The lone goal of the match came in the first half when Giovanni Morelli drove home his own rebound after Andrew Evans stopped his initial shot. The goal was contentitious as Hill Manager James Heartwood protested vehemently that Morelli was offside on the play and his views were supported by replays. Anthony Grant, who earned MOM honours in the Tottenham goal, had the most to do with earning the three points for the visitors as he played a brilliant match. Grant had at least a half-dozen key saves in the match as Hill generated many fine scoring chances. Particularly frustrated was Jimmy 'Silk' Sullivan, who saw Grant stop him three different times when he had great opportunities to score.

"Ten times out of ten we would get called for offside on that play, but on Morelli's- 'Oh, no- he wasn't offside at all'," fumed Heartwood.

"It was a bad call, but we really should have won the match despite the call- if Grand had not played so well," commented Gritt.

"It was a tough loss to take."

Hill, Rangers Scoreless in First Leg

Harrow Hill and Rangers battled to a scoreless draw at Larksfield Road in the 1st Round of the Euro Cup Knockout. Both Scott Ball and Samir Handanovic played well in their respective nets in keeping the scoreline tidy throughout. Both clubs showed a committment to defense as they policed their areas with determination and focus. Hill had the better of chances in the match, but Rangers had more chances overall. To an extent, Rangers were undone by their wild, inconsistent shooting, as they only managed to force Ball into 3 saves on their 15 shots. Young Hill defender Jason Carter showed that he is quickly developing and earned MOM honours for his play in the middle.

"It could have been worse," obseved Gritt.

"Yes, it could have. It also could have been better. We didn't execute particularly well in the match," replied Heartwood.

"Other than playing solid defense..."

"Yes, you're right. Defensively we were fine today, we just didn't show much going the other way."

No Magic for Hill, Rangers Win

Harrow Hill was broomed from the Euro Cup competition as they lost to 'Gers 1-0 in front of intensely partisan crowd at Ibrox. Hill played tentatively all match long and paid for that when Rangers scored midway through the first half. Jim Young sent a looping cross into the area and Craig Nicholson flicked a header past Scott Ball for the only goal of the match. Hill sputtered offensively all match and their best chance was one that Cristian Villalba spurned the shot opportunity when he seemed to have an open goal to shoot at. Venerable 38 year old Barry Ferguson earned MOM honours for his work in helping Rangers maintain control of the midfield and he helped keep dangerous Michael Jones under wraps for the match.

"We simply didn't play well enough to earn moving on," sighed Heartwood.

"Nothing seemed to go very well offensively. Some of that was due to the 'Gers, but some of that was clearly our lack of execution," stated Gritt.

Wolves Edge Hill

The struggles continued for Harrow Hill as they fell to 19th place Wolves 1-0 at Molineaux. The home side took the early lead when Mark Cook outleapt Paul Shepherd to deflect a cross from Terry Burke past Andrew Evans in the 8th minute. That would prove to be enough scoring as Hill managed only a precious few chances, but missed two wide open goals. Julian Henry lofted a 45 yard shot after Simon Allen headed down to him and they had caught Niklas Gustavsson coming out and out of position. Henry's shot drifted and bounced off the outside of the post to the relief of the home side. Simon Allen also missed a wide open goal as his shot skimmed the bar early in the second half. Hill lacked life offensively and the only player who showed well was MOM Bertrand Auriac.

"No excuses, we played poorly and got a loss handed to us because of it," angrily commented Heartwood.

"Other than Bertrand, we really didn't show much," agreed Gritt.

"I suspect some of it might be the transfer listing of Andrew Hook- but I couldn't avoid his request."

"Add on our injury problems. We are still missing Lee Pearson and Paul Ellis- again, as well as Stuart Dean, Chris Brooks, Jimmy Sullivan and now Julian Henry- again. That is a lot to overcome."

"We should have the depth to do just that. I believe we do, at least. We need a spark though because we have played very blah in our last several matches."

"Great to see Simon Allen getting the recognition," said Gritt.

Hill Brushes Past West Brom

Harrow Hill's offense came back to life at Larksfield Road as they punished visiting West Brom with a 3-1 win that could have been by a greater margin. The first half saw Hill throttle the West Brom efforts in the midfield and pile the pressure on the visiting side. Hill appeared set to take the lead when Paul Banks held Richard Murray back in the area. Simon Allen stepped up, but Carlos Marquez guessed correctly and palmed away the penalty kick. Allen got a measure of revenge minutes later when he headed a cross down and Louis Taylor fired a shot inside the left post past Marquez for his 1st Senior goal. Though Hill failed to build on the lead by halftime, they controlled the play. The second half began with more Hill pressure and Allen cemented his MOM honours when he scored after taking a good cross from Dave Turner. Hill promptly gave a goal back when Danny French was called for tripping Paul Tait in the area and Banks converted the penalty kick past Scott

Ball. Hill put the match out of reach when Bertrand Auriac put forth his effort for goal of the month with a blistering 25 yard rocket after Michael Jones laid off the ball for him. Hill closed out the match with no more chances for the visitors in the 3-1 win.

"That strike from Bertrand Auriac is exactly why I wanted him here- he is just a dangerous player," said an enthusiastic Heartwood.

"We also got another fine effort from Simon Allen. I really think you helped buoy him by opening talks on a new contract," replied Gritt.

"Maybe. I just believe he deserves a new one for the player he has become."

"Very disheartening. Danny Lynch has been one of our key players this season with the extended injuries to Lee Pearson and Paul Ellis. To lose him for most of the rest of the season is discouraging," sighed Heartwood. "With both Stuart Dean and Les Beard still out with injuries as well- we have a very inexperienced center defense."

"There isn't much to do with a torn groin- other than to let him heal up," stated Gritt.

"I am not disagreeing with the physio's assessment Steve, it is just hard to accept another key defensive loss."

Hill Blanks Blackburn

Suddenly resurgent Harrow Hill played a determined match as they defeated Blackburn 2-0 at Ewood Park. Simon Allen earned his 2nd consecutive MOM honour as he scored a dazzling first half goal. Allen leapt and hit a banana shot Gary March after Cristian Villalba chipped a pass into the middle for Allen. Hill did a fine job of smothering oft-times nemesis Soloman Kalou as he couldn't wreak his normal havoc under constant marking. Hill made the match more comfortable for themselves when Adrian Welch slammed home a rebound after March parried Allen's hard shot early in the second half. Andrew Evans earned his clean sheet with a solid effort that included a diving stop on Steven Reid midway through the second half.

"That was certainly a focused effort. I am very pleased with our play today," commented Heartwood.

"All the elements of our play were in tune today. The passing and tackling both were keys to our win," stated Gritt.

Relentless Harrow Hill Under-18s Win 10th Consecutive Title

In what may well be their finest season, the Harrow Hill Under-18s have already clinched their 10th consecutive Group 9 title. Under the direction of new Assistant Manager Steve Gritt, who replaced revered Bob Pearson after Pearson retired following last season, the Hill Under 18s have not been scored upon in 19 matches, with 18 of those being wins. They have scored 56 goals so far in their dominating effort. This is the earlies that the Under-18s have clinched their title in their amazing 10 year run. Gritt commented briefly, "I can only echo what Bob Pearson said when he was here. This is a total club effort and we have to spread the accolades to not only the players and other staff- but to Manager James Heartwood for his continued ability to bring the best young talent to play at Larksfield Road."

Hill Launches Past Leeds

In a rough, bitter match between two clubs that clearly don't like each other- it was Harrow Hill celebrating at the final whistle as they defeated Leeds 3-1 at Larksfield Road. Hill took the early lead as Simon Allen, who earned his 3rd straight MOM, slotted a pass to Cristian Villalba and the Argentine striker rifled a shot inside the far right post past Matteo Amato. The match was rough from the outset and the Referee was quite busy handing out yellow cards. The match got worse after Shaun Jenkins was called for a handball in the area in first half injury time. Jon Hayward stepped up and converted the penalty before clearly taunting Hill Manager James Heartwood as the two sides scuffled before leaving for their dressing rooms. The second half showed the intensity and tough tackling had gotten worse and not better. Villalba returned the favor early in the second half as he made a nice pass that Anthony Rodriguez missed intercepting and Allen drove a hard shot past Amato. Allen then made it a brace as Paul Shepherd made a wonderful pass that allowed him to blast past Amato. Shortly after, Allen was injured on a hard tackle and then later Villalba also was forced to leave on a rugged challenge.

"Fortunately, Simon Allen won't miss any time. Cristian Villalba wasn't so fortunate- he will be out a couple weeks with that bad heel," stated Gritt.

"Julian Henry should be ready to go next week. We are starting to get some of the injured back into playing shape again," offered Heartwood.

"That was a nasty match."

"Hoddle has never liked me- nor my approach. He feels it is showing other managers up- his teams reflect his dislike."

"This is getting difficult to overcome," muttered Heartwood.

"Another injury to a center defender- I don't know why, but we are having a bad run there," stated Gritt.

"Jason Carter had been the best performing center back with the top 3 out- now we lose him to broken ribs for a month."

"Well, you did already call up Paul Foster and Paul Ellis is back in training."

"Ellis is at least a couple weeks away from being match ready. I guess Paul will get his debut, since Terry Simpson hasn't really played well in his opportunities so far."

Hill Crumble Crystal Palace

Harrow Hill's quick passing game was too much for Crystal Palace to handle and as Hill won 2-0 at Selhurst Park. The quickness of Hill changed the complexion of the match early on as Mario Simic received a redcard at 16 minutes for pulling down Simon Allen from behind on a clean break for Allen. Allen, who earned his 4th consecutive MOM honours, then took advantage of lackluster play by the home side. Per Ciljan Skjelbred slid a pass back to Kevin Larsen. Larsen failed to move quickly and Allen zipped past him to take the loose ball. Allen then made a neat move with the ball before beating Federico Lombardi to give Hill the early lead. The match stayed at 1-0 until midway through the second half. Bertrand Auriac, who had a terrific match in making plays for others, laid a pass off across the goal mouth and Gary Evans was there to swat it past Lombardi. Andrew Evans had a fairly easy time completing the clean sheet in the 2-0 win.

"Very nice work offensively. We really kept them under pressure most of the match," offered a pleased Heartwood.

"Bertrand Auriac was a key player today- his 'all action' approach allowed him to make several timely plays," agreed Gritt.

Stoke Stuns Hill

Last place, relegation bound Stoke handed Harrow Hill a stinging 1-0 defeat at Larksfield Road. Stoke's formula for success was simple, let Hill make the mistakes. Hill outshot the visiting side 16-5, but their shooting was atrociously bad as they squandered many good chances with wild shots that weren't even close. Simon Allen had a penalty kick saved in the first half, and that would prove costly. The lone goal came late in the second half when Paul Foster's pass glanced off MOM Andy Edwards. Bostock ran onto the loose ball and jetted down the middle, before putting away a shot past Scott Ball into the lower right hand corner of the goal. Itay Gadot came up with the needed saves in the second half to keep a clean sheet for the unlikely winners.

"That was a death blow to our slim chances of overtaking Aston Villa for the top spot," sighed Heartwood.

"It didn't help us in catching up to 2nd place Newcastle either," grumbled Gritt.

Hill Fights Back to Even at Leicester

Overcoming a poor effort by keeper Andrew Evans, Harrow Hill fought back to earn a 3-3 draw at Walkers Stadium. Hill quickly fell behind 2-0 in the first half as Evans failed to snare a cross and Matthias Lepillier deflected the cross past him to give the home side the lead. Paul Shepherd failed to mark Mathew Shepherd as he slammed home a rebound for their 2nd goal. Hill drew a goal back late in the first half when Simon Allen took a through ball from Paul Foster and put his shot away past Frank Fielding. Hill seemed done for when Mathew Shepherd made it a brace as Paul Ellis, just returning to play from injuries, failed to challenge him and Evans missed a ball that he should have saved. Hill's fighting spirit brought them back as they carried the play to the home side. Fielding was brilliant in keeping Hill at bay for several minutes, but had to leave with a minor injury. Losing Fielding proved costly to Leicester as Allen made a dazzling move to set up Julian Henry for an easy goal to move back within one. Allen then made it a brace himself and earned another MOM as he deflected a cross from Richard Murray past Kim Young-Kwang for the dramatic late equalizer.

"It was a great fightback, but I can't help but look on the match with disappointment," stated Heartwood.

"There was no way we should have fallen behind like that," agreed Gritt.

"Still, I have to give the boys a lot of credit- especially Simon Allen- for earning us a point out of the match."

"We swept the Player of the Month honours Steve," said a happy Heartwood.

"Who got them?" asked Gritt.

"Believe it or not- Bertrand Auriac was Young Player of the Month. Simon Allen was Player of the Month. Jason Carter was actually runner-up to Simon and Paul Shepherd finished 3rd in the balloting for Young Player of the Month."

"They were all deserving."

Late Penalty Salvages Hill Draw at Chelsea

It clearly wasn't an artistic performance as Harrow Hill salvaged a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on a penalty, but it was a result that Hill was clearly content with. Chelsea outplayed Hill for much of the match and only fine work by Scott Ball in goal kept Hill even at halftime as the two sides went scoreless. Chelsea finally took the lead midway through the second half when a blistering 25 yard shot from Nuri Shahin eluded Ball's diving attempt. It looked like Chelsea would salt away the three points, but a beautiful cross from MOM Dave Turner saw Shahin push Simon Allen in the air. Allen calmly converted the penalty kick- after having his last two saved- to salvage a split of the points with the home side.

"Whew. We didn't really deserve to get any points, but I am glad we did," said Heartwood.

"It was an ugly match for us- we were flat- but we worked hard to earn the point," agreed Gritt.

"It is hard to believe how banged up our backline has been," sighed Heartwood.

Gritt nodded, "It makes it difficult to really have them working together- when so many injured. How many are out now- with the injury to Danny French this morning."

"French makes 5 of our regular 10 that are out at present."

"Doesn't bode well with our showdown match with Aston Villa next."

"Like we have been all season, we will just have to muddle through."

Hill, Villa Battle to Draw

In a spirited and entertaining match, Harrow Hill outplayed 1st place Aston Villa but could only manage a 1-1 draw at Larksfield Road. Hill and Villa were clearly ready for this match and both sides came out flying. Hill gained the lead when Gareth Wallace was called for tripping Julian Henry in the area. Simon Allen converted the penalty kick past Danny Turner to give Hill the lead. Villa made sure the lead didn't last long as they caught the Hill backline running around a bit and that opened space up for Andrew Harris. With space in the area, Harris drove a shot past Scott Ball for the equalizer. The difference in the rest of the match was Danny Turner. The Villa keeper certainly had Simon Allen's number after the penalty kick, as he stopped him three different times after Hill had sprung Allen in free. Turner also made a diving snare of MOM Dave Turner's free kick. Hill narrowly avoided defeat in the waning moments as Ball parried away a great chance by Harris and Darren Davies shot wide at the open goal on the rebound.

"We were so close," grumbled Gritt.

"If Simon could have scored one of those three- I really believe we would have beaten them," agreed Heartwood.

"I was impressed with how well Paul Foster played- I really didn't think he could play at this level, but I seem to be wrong."

"That was true for me as well. Paul has shown he belongs though."

"Andrew Evans is making noise again. He wanted to start this match."

"I already told Andrew that we were allowing him to leave on Bosman after the season. I need matches like this to determine if Scott Ball is really ready to take over- and he certainly looks like he is."

Hill Flames Forest

A scorching first half by Harrow Hill led to a relatively easy 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at The City Ground. MOM Simon Allen and strike partner Julian Henry were in top form today. Allen gave Hill the lead with a brilliant interception of a pass by John Bruce. Allen then turned on the jets and took the ball around Ron-Robert Zieler and smashed his shot into the open goal. Dave Turner, on for re-injured Chris Brooks, keyed the next goal when he swung a long cross to lefwing Alex Lee. Lee managed to hook a pass back in for unmarked Henry and Henry put away his shot inside the far right post. Allen then made a dazzling run with the ball before slipping a pass across that Henry slammed into the goal for his 10th goal of the season. Allen missed several excellent chances to add to his goal totals, but his 11th MOM of the season broke the club record. Scott Ball put up the clean sheet for Hill and has apparently supplanted soon to be departing Andrew Evans as the number 1 keeper.

"Simon Allen was superb today. He really deserved to have gotten at least one more goal," said a pleased Heartwood.

"Our whole side played awfully well today," commented Gritt.

"If we can just keep getting efforts like that one- I would be a very happy Manager."

Harrow Hill Reserves Repeat at Group 1 Champs

Continuing their tradition of excellence, the Harrow Hill Reserve side clinched their 2nd consecutive Group 1 title with two matches remaining in their season. The Hill Reserves have lost only two matches so far and have scored 57 goals while allowing only 19. Hill Assistant Manager Steve Gritt explained, "It was easy to get this Group to focus, and that is a tribute to Bob Pearson- whose shoes I stepped into this season. The players at all levels believe in the Harrow Hill system and demonstrate a wonderful ability to execute our gameplan."

Hill Falls to West Ham

A blazing start by West Ham earned them a 2-0 lead and they held on against a furious Hill rally to win 2-1 at Larksfield Road. Hill was caught flat footed in the opening minute of play and Cesar Carignano made them play by blistering a 25 yard rocket past Scott Ball. The visitors moved ahead 2-0 midway through the first half when Daniel Perret was parked unmarked and snapped home a rebound after Ball could only parry another blast by Carignano. Hill failed to show the level of execution they had demonstrated of late and trailed by that 2-0 margin at halftime. Hill came out of the gates racing in the second half and a pretty pass by Simon Allen allowed Jimmy 'Silk' Sullivan to draw Hill a goal back in the opening moments as he beat Dave Dodd cleanly with his shot. The fierce tackling of the West Ham backline, led by MOM Predgrag Stojkovic, kept the efforts of Hill to rally from coming to fruition as they suffered a bitter home loss.

"We came out flat and paid the price," observed a tired Heartwood.

"Giving up that goal in the first minute hurt," agreed Gritt.

"Still, we played very hard in the second half, we just couldn't get the equalizer."

Hill Stuns Newcastle

Newcastle, clearly smarting from their midweek loss to Aston Villa in the Champions Cup Semifinals, came out determined to bury Harrow Hill and clinch 2nd place in the EPL with a win. Instead they saw a gritty Hill effort that survived the furious pressure from the home side in the first half and scored the lone goal in the second half for a 1-0 Hill win at St. James Park. Newcastle piled on the pressure in the first half, but the Hill backline- led by MOM Jason Carter- remained firm and provided exceptional support as Andrew Evans kept Newcastle from gaining the lead. The lone goal in the match came when Cristian Villalba, on for a clearly tired Simon Allen, slipped past Matt Fisher and took a pass from Adrian Welch with space. Villalba fired a well placed shot past Adrian White inside the far left post for his 5th goal of the season and that was all Hill needed to complete the upset. Evans, playing possibly his final match for Hill, came up with every save needed in earning the clean sheet.

"Great effort and a gritty, determined win," announced Heartwood.

"'Grit'ty is the key word," chuckled Steve Gritt.

Heartwood roared, "Yes, it is your trademark, isn't it Steve? Well, we still have a chance at 2nd with the win, but to make up four points in our last two matches will be difficult."

"Even if we don't- the win kept us a point ahead of Leeds for 3rd place and we have a match in hand on them."

"Don't forget Tottenham, who are only 3 points back of us in 5th- but we have a match in hand on them as well."

Bolton Battles to Draw with Hill

Harrow Hill only needed a win to clinch 3rd place in the EPL, but failed to accomplish that as Bolton fought back for a late equalizer and left Hill still needing a good result in its final match to finish 3rd. Hill scored early in the match and maintained pressure on the visitors throughout the first half. Michael Jones threaded a pass through to Simon Allen and Allen hammered his shot past Pavel Kubat for his 30th goal of the season. Kubat got the better of Allen in two other superb chances in the first half and kept his side in the match against the Hill pressure. Bolton rallied in the second half, assisted by Hill. Les Beard drew a redcard for hauling down Steve Beck just outside the edge of the area in the opening moments of the second half. Hill gave a stalwart effort with only 10 men, but were caught on a counter-attack following a Hill corner kick late in the second half. Andrew Evans made the initial save on John Edwards, but Steve Beck was there to snap the rebound into the open goal. Hill came close to stealing the three points, but Kubat made beautiful saves on both Julian Henry and Bertrand Auriac in the late moments after Hill counter-attacks sprung both free.

"It was a bit unfair to Les Beard. He only took that redcard because Andrew Evans dawdled with the ball and then lost it to them," grimly stated Gritt.

"I agree. It was clearly Andrew's fault for the situation and he has played his last match for us. His judgement has really declined this season- that makes at least 4 or 5 times he has been caught not getting rid of the ball when he should have been," agreed Heartwood.

"It cost us a better result today. If we don't lose a man- I think we would have taken all three points."

"I have to agree with you on that as well. It will really be painful if we don't keep 3rd place."

"Aston Villa clinched the title today."

"They were certain too. Newcastle doesn't have to worry about us overtaking them for 2nd now either."

Hill Pummel 'Pool- Finish 3rd

Harrow Hill showed they wouldn't be put off of by the trappings of the major EPL clubs as they handed Liverpool a lashing in defeating them 3-0 at Anfield to clinch a best ever 3rd place finish in the EPL. Jose Manuel Reina got the best of Simon Allen twice in the early going as the Hill passing sent him in free, but when Reina fumbled a shot from Bertrand Auriac behind him, it was Allen who was quickest to the loose ball and he snapped it into the open goal for his 31st goal of the season. Gail Clichy then tripped Chris Brooks in the area and Brooks calmly converted the penalty kick to make it 2-0 Hill. That lead carried through to halftime thanks to good work by Scott Ball as he made excellent saves against Wesley Sneijder, Freddy Adu and Keith Reid. A great pass from MOM Stuart Dean sent Allen in free early in the second half and Allen faked Reina out with a fancy dribble before taking it past him to score into the open goal for his brace. Hill kept Liverpool at bay with fine work from the backline as Ball closed out the clean sheet.

"Excellent match to close the season on," said a happy Heartwood.

"It was too bad that Lee Pearson only made it a short way through. He has worked so hard to get back this season..." commented Gritt.

"I knew it was chancy- letting Lee play- but I felt I had to with how hard he worked to try and make it back for the end of the season."

"Graham Goodwin did an excellent job stepping in for him."

"Our whole backline- especially Stuart Dean- played great. I was really happy for Stuart, after how badly he played against Bolton he didn't think I would play him in this last match."

"He had as good a match as you could hope for."

"Simon Allen closed out his great season in fine fashion."

"If Simon isn't EPL Player of the Year- the whole awards process is a travesty. He won the scoring title with 30 goals to Michael Dobson's 2nd place of 25. He had 10 MOM honours- no one else had more than 7 and his 7.81 Average rating is so much better than Chris Rowe's 7.39 that it is remarkeable."

"He should win it, but you know how those awards occasionally get rooted in politics."

"There will be a stink if he doesn't win it- I promise you that."

"I guess there was no reason to worry," said a smiling Heartwood.

"None at all," offered Gritt with a huge grin.

"The vote was unanimous- Simon Allen is the Player's Player of the Year."

"Who finished behind him?"

"Luke Moore of Aston Villa was Runner-Up, Cesar Carignano of West Brom was third. Simon was also easily the top goal scorer in EPL."

"Andrew Evans joined Simon as starters on the Players Team of the Year. Michael Jones was selected as a Reserve."

"That was a nice honour to end Andrew's career here- it will also help ensure a big payday for him."

"I hadn't even paid any attention to that award- that is a great honour for Simon."

"I haven't told Simon yet, but he will be called up to the England National side for the European

Championships."

"He deserves it- with his honours as EPL Player of the Year and European Golden Boot in his pocket.

By the way the rumour mill is working overtime again. Manchester United announced they were firing

England Held to Draw By Spain

In the most anticipated opening match in the European Championships, England battered away at Spain but was held to a 1-1 draw in Subotica. England took the lead early on in the match when Mark Dobson drilled a low shot past Iker Casillas from close-in in the 11th minute. England threatened to pull away, but Casillas was brilliant the rest of the match and stopped Michael Jones and Wayne Rooney on excellent chances. Spain equalized when Carlos Serrano deflected a corner past Martin Higgins in the 24th minute as he outleapt Jones. England tried hard to regain the lead the rest of the first half and all of the second half, but failed to score on Casillas. Simon Allen, EPL Player of the Year, came closest twice in the second half after coming on for Dobson. Each time Casillas got fingertips on his wicked shots and kept them out. Spanish defender Manuel Campos earned MOM honours- partly for clearing what appeared to be a certain goal off the goal line just before Andrew Harris could reach it. England will lose Steven Taylor for week due to bad toe. The other Group match saw Belgium dump Wales 2-1, setting up a key showdown for England and Belgium on Friday.

"I thought we played well in the match, but you certainly have to give a lot of credit to Iker Casillas. Casillas was the main reason we were forced to settle for a draw today," remarked England Manager James Heartwood.

Belgium Battles Back to Draw with England

Belgium, the Holders of the European Championships, found themselves forced to battle back to earn a 1-1 draw with an English side that outplayed them for much of the match. England struck first early on as Dominic Williams snapped a shot past Silvio Proto after a superb pass from Simon Allen set him up nicely. As was the case for England against Spain, they failed to build on their early lead and allowed the equalizer. Martin Higgins uncharacteristically misplayed a cross, missing the interception, and that allowed Stefaan Leleu to drive the equalizer into the open goal midway through the first half. England pressured Belgium severely in the second half, but Proto played excellent and was well supported by the mobile Belgian backline. Belgian midfielder Guy Dufour received the MOM honours in the match. England is left with a must win match against Wales after Spain edged the plucky side 1-0. England will be without Steven Taylor for the remainder of the tournament due to a sprained ankle.

"We played well enough to get the win, but you can't make mistakes at this level and not expect to pay dearly for them and that was what happened on their goal," stated England Manager James Heartwood to the press following the match.

Wales Sinks England!

In a match that will be discussed as much for the controversy as the result, Wales scored a late match winner to send England packing from the European Championships with a 1-0 win over their larger neighbour. England began the match in fine fashion and Wales keeper Richard Evans had to make a pair of terrific saves in the opening moments on Simon Allen and Mark Dobson to keep England off the board. The match turned on a play at the 14 minute mark. England took a corner and Wales cleared the ball out with a long kick. Wales forward Steve Howells took the long kick and was clearly 15 yards behind the English defenders before the ball was ever kicked out to him. The Referee and his Assistant chose not to call the offside, despite the English bench screaming their protest. English defenders Richard Ellis and Danny Morris hustled back to blunt Howells' run. Ellis challenged Howells while Morris clearly cut off the Welsh forward from the goal. Referee Carlos Megia Davila then handed an astonished Ellis a redcard for a last man tackle, with Morris and Higgins open mouthed in disbelief at the card. England did not shy away from the attack with only 10 men, as only a win would give them a chance to move out of Group play. Evans, who earned MOM honours, was called on for another series of timely saves under intense English pressure. As the match stretched into the late portions of the second half, Wales caught England sending men forward and got behind them on a counter-attack. Higgins made a difficult parry of a blast from Jason Harding, but Howells was right there to put in the dramatic match winner at 87 minutes. The buzz had already begun that England Manager James Heartwood might be fired before the final whistle sounded.

"It is difficult to accept that the officiating crew failed to properly call not one- but two aspects- of the same pivotal play. I am certain FIFA is already preparing my fine, but how can they ignore the fact that the replays clearly show they got the calls wrong? My future? I would stand aside if the English FA want me to- I have too much respect for this group of players and the FA to not do so if that is their wish. I think this group of players can go on to accomplish great things for England and I would not want to be considered a distraction in their efforts," said a clearly upset English Manager James Heartwood at the post-match press conference.

English Manager Heartwood Resigns

At a hastily convened press conference at Heathrow as England arrived back from Serbia after getting broomed from the European Championships, James Heartwood announced that he was resigning as Manager of England. "I feel the FA really want to make a change, and I don't want to stand in the way of their proceedings. It has been an honour to work as National Manager, something I will never forget. I look forward to the future exploits of these players- because they are a worthy group." Reports are that Brian Stein (West Brom) is the favorite to take over, while also in the running are Darren Bradshaw (Fulham), Tony Mowbray (Middlesbrough) and Colin Townsend (Charlton).

"Jim, you really got a bad deal on all of this," said Bob Pearson over the phone to Heartwood.

"That is about the same thing Steve Gritt told me Bob, but what can I do about it. I have already heard that FIFA will fine me for my comments, but the FA did say they will cover that. Those I spoke with at the FA said they believed the undercurrent was they wanted me to leave- I just chose this as the honourable course."

A Stunner- Heartwood Asked to Return as English Manager!

In a completely unexpected move, the English FA announced today that they had asked James Heartwood to rescind his resignation and resume duties as Manager for the National side. The rumours out of the FA meeting were that there was plenty of campaigning by the current players for bringing Heartwood back and there was also a significant groundswell of support that he deserved the chance to return after the shennanigans at the European Championship. Heartwood was clearly dazed as he spoke at the press conference. "I meant what I said three days ago- it is such an honour to be selected as Manager of the National side. I did not expect this to happen- I was convinced that my one chance had passed me by. When they came to me and asked me to return, I was floored."

MD note- I was astonished to see this happen in FM. After not meeting expectations- moving on from Group Play in the Euro Championships- resigning seemed a foregone conclusion. To be asked back was a complete surprise.

"Quite a bit is being said about us in the press," reported Steve Gritt.

"What? About all the transfer sales?" asked Heartwood, looking up.

"Yes. A lot of stir about it and the rumour mill is working overtime."

"Well, here is where we stand now. The following players were sold as of today:"

Gary Evans to Celtic for 6.25 Million

Andrew Hook to West Brom for 4.2 Million

Jon Webber to Liverpool for 3.4 Million

Terry Simpson to Arsenal for 3.3 Million

Chris Whelan to Preston for 2.4 Million

Louis Taylor to Port Vale for 2.2 Million

Paul Walker to Barnet for 1.5 Million

Peter Richardson to Middlesbrough for 975K

Ryan Black to Derby for 725K

Andrew Evans on Bosman to Newcastle

Dean Mitchell on Bosman to Hearts

"Quite a bit of money flowed in for them."

"A bit over 25 Million all told. I have more that I am still working on as I try to cull our team some."

"How does our balance sheet look with all those sales?"

"We are 62 Million in the black, with an allowed transfer fund of 55 Million. The Board set our weekly wages at 1.1 Million a week and we are currently only at just under 800K a week."

"So, we are in pretty good shape. What are the Board's expectations for this season?"

"They just want a respectable position in the EPL. Our supporters are hoping we can contend and I am in line with the supporters- I really hope we can stay in the upper echelon of the EPL."

"Another couple sales to report to you Steve," offered Heartwood.

"Which of our unhappy players is leaving now?" asked Gritt.

"Actually, one was one of the happy ones, but the other was unhappy. I couldn't turn down 1.9 Million from Derby for Kevin Wild. Wild called me and told me it was a wrench to leave- but he will get more opportunity there- which I couldn't disagree with. Watford paid us 3.1 Million for Matthew O'Neill and he jumped at the chance to go there."

"Hmm, we have lost three keepers with experience- with Evans, Mitchell and now O'Neill- leaving. Who will be the backups for Scott Ball?"

"Anthony Rowe will be moving up and Alan Stott will also move up."

"Anthony has a lot of promise, but he is only 17."

"Andrew Evans was only 17 when he started playing for us."

"True, but we were still in Conference National then. I still am not sure that Stott really has the ability to play at EPL level."

"I accept your reservations Steve, but Alan has been with us a long time and has worked his way into at least getting a chance. Anthony was a player I saw a myriad of bids from Major clubs for this summer. I think he will be ready to take over for Scott Ball in two or three years and I want him up here now to make sure he gets as much experience as we can give him."

"Hmm, how much have we made in sales so far?"

"Over 35 Million this summer. Easily enough to fund our trip and the renovations at Larksfield Road."

"Exactly. The Board asked me to schedule them all on the road so they could get as much work as possible done on the stadium expansion before the season started."

He was getting to be a distraction in the dressing room and it was time to let him leave- provided we received the right price. Chelsea and Liverpool both came through with 17 Million bids- Stuart selected Chelsea, because he wanted to work with one of his idols- Petr Cech. It will be a record transfer sale for us too."

"Cech seems to have recovered from his injury nicely. Well, who are we looking at for leftback now?"

Hill Demolishes Anderlecht

The series of road friendlies seemed to pay off for Harrow Hill as they put themselves in a great position to advance to Group play in the Champions Cup competition with a 4-0 demolition of Anderlecht in Brussels. Hill took control early on in the match and MOM Michael Jones laid a nice pass off for Simon Allen to tee up a drive past Cristian Schmid early in the first half. Schmid kept Anderlecht in the match with several good saves through the rest of the first half as the home side had trouble getting anything going against Hill. Hill's pressure to open the second half paid off when Jones volleyed a loose ball past Schmid. Allen appeared set for his 2nd goal after Tim Pylyser's redcard for a last man tackle on Allen, but he fired his kick off the outside of the left post. Allen didn't miss when Hill received a second penalty kick after Julian Henry was tripped by Younes Hamdan in the area. Allen's brace put Hill up 3-0. Hill wasn't done and Henry added a goal late in the half when he knocked home the rebound after Schmid was able to parry a shot from Jorge Herrera. Scott Ball earned the easy clean sheet for Hill.

"Things really look to be coming together nicely," smiled Heartwood.

"That was much better than I expected," admitted Gritt.

"Our flowing passing attack was wonderful to see. The players know where each other will be and trust each other- it is what I have been hoping to see."

Chapman Caps Hill in Impressive Effort

Leeds handed Harrow Hill a stinging 3-0 loss at Elland Road to begin their EPL campaign. MOM Daniel Chapman held the sword and sliced the Hill backline like butter in scoring a first half hat-trick to key the win for the home side. Danny Lynch had a very poor start to his EPL season as he failed to mark Chapman when he scored on the first goal and then missed an interception that would have prevented him from making it a brace. Chapman capped the hat-trick with a lightning-fast shot inside the far left post later in the first half. Hill showed more life in the second half, but Matteo Amato clearly wanted the clean sheet and made several fine saves to preserve it. Hill suffered early in the match when Simon Allen was taken out in the opening moments with a minor injury.

"That was a bloody awful way to begin the season," said a clearly disappointed Heartwood.

"It is hard to tell what went so badly wrong. We had been playing so well up until this match," agreed Gritt.

"A big part of it was Danny Lynch. I had been hoping we wouldn't see the inconsistency that occasionally dotted his play last season, but apparently that won't be the case."

"Scott Ball also could have played better- but that might not have made a difference."

"Losing Simon Allen hurts. He never really missed any time last season and now he is on the shelf for 3 weeks to begin this season."

Hill Waxes Watford

Harrow Hill parlayed a strong second half into a 3-1 win over Watford at Larksfield Road. Hill saw Watford hold sway over much of the play in the first half as the visitors seemed a step quicker. Scott Ball had a terrific first half to keep things tidy for Hill on the scoresheet and Hill gained the lead late in the half when Danny French sent a cross into the middle. The cross was deflected by Nick Farrington and that caught ex-Hill mate Matthew O'Neill flat footed as he was moving across the goal. Craig Johnson made O'Neill pay for his anticipation as he pounced on the loose ball and skimmed a 35 yard shot past the stranded keeper for his 1st Senior goal at Harrow Hill. Watford showed plenty of heart as they equalized early in the second half when Andy Walker flicked a header past Ball on a cross from Chris Langford. Hill seemingly woke up after the goal as they took control of the rest of the match. The lead came back to Hill when Colin Morrison scored his 1st ever Senior goal after a beautifiully laid off pass from MOM Jimmy 'Silk' Sullivan found him with space in the area. Peter Webster drew a redcard for pulling down Morrison from behind as the last man and Sullivan capped our scoring as he rifled a shot past O'Neill after the wall deflected the free kick.

"I was very happy with the way they responded after the equalizer. That is the kind of heart and determination we need this season," commented a pleased Heartwood.

"Our passing game suddenly clicked at that point," agreed Gritt. "We were a bit fortunate to survive the first half though."

"True, we had to lean on Scott Ball and he came up with several big saves."

"Once the passing started flowing for us, we really seemed to take our level of play up a full notch."

Hill Edges Everton

A strong road performance by Harrow Hill allowed them to hand Everton a stinging 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park. The first half was evenly played and both sides' backlines were showing superior tackling to ruin close-in chances. Paul Moran and Scott Ball were also doing their part with solid work in their respective goals. The difference in the first half, and indeed the match, was the combo of Dave Turner and MOM Julian Henry. As the match moved into first half injury time, Turner's excellent curling pass found Henry with space in front of the goal and he put away his shot past Moran to give Hill the halftime lead. Turner and Henry connected again early in the second half when Henry ran onto Turner's pass into space on the left and then Henry fired a precision shot past Moran for his brace. Hill did a superb job of defending after the second goal and were able to assist Ball in closing out another clean sheet.

"More excellent work from the entire squad. I am really happy with how well we seemed to be gelling this early in the season," stated Heartwood.

"Well, it isn't like we have really added anybody from the outside- these boys all know each other very well now," replied Gritt.

"Still, the level of play- excepting our opening match debacle- has been very good."

"You don't usually do that," commented Gritt.

"I know. You are right I typically don't do it. But Martin Mortimer is very close to becoming a contributor to the Senior side and I really would like to see if he can crack Millwall's starting lineup. If he does, then we will have a better reading on how he might develop for us," replied Heartwood.

"How long did you loan him for?"

"5 Months. I don't plan on allowing him to go back on loan when done. With Brian Ball possibly leaving after this season, I am hoping Martin is ready to step in at that point."

"You don't plan on selling him though?"

"No, I won't sell Martin. I think very highly of his future here."

Hill Smashes Anderlecht, Advances to Champions Cup Group Play

Already holding a 4-0 aggregate lead in hand, Harrow Hill seemed assured of advancing to Champions Cup Group Play and their Larksfield Road fans expected only a solid effort in support of advancing. Instead what they saw was Hill playing dazzling, slashing football as they destroyed Anderlecht with four first half goals to win the aggregate by a shocking 8-0 margin. The catalysts to the impressive Hill win were Darren Adams, Lee Pearson, Jorge Herrera and Brian Ball. Adams scored in the 2nd minute to get Hill off on a flyer as he drove home the rebound after Cristian Schmid parried a blast from Herrera. Pearson added his 1st goal in a good long time when he converted a penalty kick after Ball was tripped in the area by Mike Bracke. Pearson made it a brace when he deflected Herrera's corner past Schmid. Adams then capped a great first half by Hill when he slammed home a shot inside the right post after taking a scorching pass from Ball. Schmid managed to keep the damage to those goals by some fine work. Scott Ball had an easy clean sheet in the match and the surprise MOM selection was young leftback John King, who has really impressed the club as he has stepped up and played well in place of injured Paul Shepherd.

"Another excellent effort. I really didn't expect us to play *that* well," said a smiling Heartwood.

"Our execution has been very good. When we have young players like John King stepping in and playing that well- well, things are going right," commented Gritt.

"Who did we get in our Champions Cup Group draw?" asked Gritt.

"An interesting bunch with us in Group C. Hertha BSC, CSKA Moscow and Club Brugge are the others," replied Heartwood.

"Well, we certainly know CSKA- who beat us in our friendlies."

"It should be a good, even Group. I think any of us has the chance to make it out of it. It will all depend on how we play."

10-man Hill Settles for Draw at Bolton

Harrow Hill may have been down to 10 men after the redcard to Les Beard, but they certainly didn't play like it as they came within a whisker of taking all three points at Reebok Stadium before settling for a 2-2 draw. Hill was on the board first in the match as MOM Richard Murray hammered a poor goal kick by Grant Young past the keeper for his 1st goal of the season. Beard was sent off for a last man tackle minutes later and Scott Davies converted the penalty kick past Scott Ball for the equalizer. Hill's quickness kept them able to attack and they put Young under extreme pressure through the rest of the first half and early second half. The pressure finally paid off when Michael Jones drilled a 20 yard rocket past Young on a nice set piece play from a free kick. Hill was trying to maintain their tempo, but tired and Dave Howell took a great through ball from Justin Graham and slotted home the dramatic 88th minute equalizer just past Ball inside the left post. Neither side had energy to gain the match winner.

"They gave MOM honours to Richard Murray, but Grant Young would have been more deserving," grumbled Heartwood.

"Young might have gotten it- if not for that first goal. That was a bad mistake..." answered Gritt.

"It feels like a wasted match. We played so well and then allowed them to get a point."

"Any news on all the transfer possibilities," asked Gritt.

"We have only been able to finalize one sale so far. York paid us 1.1 Million for Alan Connor," replied Heartwood.

"Still some that may be completed before the deadline?"

"Yes, still several that we have accepted bids- but I do know in a couple cases the players are balking at low signing fees and so far haven't agreed to a contract. I will update you tomorrow if that changes."

Hill Blasts Blackburn

Although the return of Simon Allen and Bertrand Auriac inspired the Larksfield Road faithful, it was Chris Brooks who towered over all other players in earning MOM honours as he led Harrow Hill to a dominating 4-0 win over Blackburn. It was clear that Hill was a different club with last season's Player of the Year Allen in the lineup, but Brooks finally scored the first Hill goal after long periods of pressure on Blackburn. Brooks skinned Zesh Rehman and then fired a rising shot past diving Gary March to score at 35 minutes. Brooks then picked up a loose ball and made a dazzling run down the right side. March saved his initial shot, but Brooks hammered in the rebound for his brace. Hill went up 3-0 when Brooks made it a first half hat-trick by snapping home a shot after collecting a cross from Anthony Baldwin. Colin Morrison came on for Allen to open the second half and capped the scoring in the match when he took a pass from Michael Jones and wheeled past James McEveley before putting away a shot past March. Hill youngster Anthony Rowe was having a fine debut and seemed on his way to a clean sheet until hobbled by a challenge and Scott Ball was forced to finish out the 4-0 win.

"It was great to see Chris Brooks finally explode like that. He has been so close to having this kind of match other times," stated a happy Heartwood.

"The whole club gave another good effort, but it was clearly Chris' show today," agreed Gritt.

"I wish I hadn't been forced to remove Anthony Rowe- he gave us a solid effort, but I didn't want to chance aggravating the injury."
