2010/11 Season Review: Scottish Third Division:

Pre-season saw the team add 14 players on free transfers as the squad overhaul began early, adding that bit of quality needed to get the team out of the bottom tier. The recommended wage budget of £3,000 was burst and we began the season spending £4,500 on wages, a precarious way to do business given the financial situation at the club.

Straight out of the hat came a pair of cup ties, both at home and both lost. First Alloa saw us off in the Challenge Cup 3-2 aet, before we slumped 3-0 to Falkirk in the League Cup. However in contrast the league campaign would be more fruitful as we opened up with a 14 game unbeaten streak.

That run saw us draw just 3 times as we ran riot with results including a 6-2 and 5-0 drubbing of Clyde, a 5-1 romp in the 'Angus Derby' over Arbroath and another 5 against Stranraer as our early points lead reached double figures.

Toward the end of the unbeaten run the first crack appeared as we went down 2-0 at Highland League outfit Clachnacuddin in the Scottish Cup 1st round. Then as we entered the new year, Berwick ended our invincibles run with a 3-0 demonstration. This sparked a run of 4 defeats in 7, as we won just once a 5-2 humping of Elgin.

This slump allowed Queens Park to become realistic challengers for the title, yet all worries of a collapse looked to be put behind us as the team embarked on a 4 game winning streak as Stranraer were hit for 6, East Stirling for 5 and Berwick put back in their place 4-1. Things wouldnt be so easy though as another run of 4 losses in 7 let Queens Park get to within 3 points in 2nd place with just 4 games remaining.

Fortunately the run in began with a game against Stranraer and yet again we would enjoy the day hitting 4 past the hapless Blues. This ensured that if we won in our next game at home to Queens Park promotion would be pretty much secured with only 6pts to play for and our goal difference being superior by +30.

A healthy 360 fans turned up and a pair of quick goals soon sparked a party atmosphere as the 2-0 win all but mathmetically secured the title. In the end we added the extra point in our final 2 games as the league was won by 5 points, flattering us after a faltering 2nd half to the campaign.

2011/12 Season Review: Scottish Second Division:

A quieter pre-season this time round as we looked to sustain a settled squad. 20 players would leave the club from various levels as we chose not to renew contracts, whilst 4 joined on a free transfer the most notable being strike duo Fabien Brandy and Tresor Kandol with English League experience. Although the club are managing to keep their heads above water, a rise to £5,500 per week in the wage budget was appreciated although we managed to keep our costs down to around the £4,000 mark.

The season again would start with cup ties as we took revenge on Alloa for last years 1st round exit by knocking them out 2-1 in the Challenge CUp 1st round. Infact we would go onto the Quarter Finals in this competition, only to collapse against Division 2 giants Dundee as we led 3-0 at half time, before losing 4-3 on the back of a pair of dodgy penalties and us having another goal disallowed.

Our League Cup run was less exciting as a 2-0 win at Brechin setup a home tie against SPL side Hearts at Links Park. We did go 1 up, we then got reduced to 10-men and soon had to lick our wounds on the back of a 3-1 defeat.

Onto more pressing matters and the weekly grind of league football. This year would be tough as Dundee on the back of their points deduction would be the overwhelming favourites to bounce back up to the 1st division. We would start well with a pair of wins, before 5 defeats in 9 sent us tumbling towards the relegation zone as we struggled to adjust.

However the last defeat in those 9, a 4-1 loss at Alloa on the 2nd November 2011 would be out last in the league. Amazingly we would embark on a 24 game unbeaten streak, the only problem would be that we drew as many as we won, which would be the key factor in the chase of eventual Champions Dundee. Our only defeat during that run would be away to Ross County in a Scottish Cup replay 6-1.

Yet again we would amass the leagues best goal tally in no small part due to some wild results including a 4-4 home draw with Peterhead, crazily we would also lead 8-1 away to Peterhead at one stage before they fought back in a 14 goal thriller as we sneaked it 8-6! We would also trounce Ayr 5-0, scrape past Cowdenbeath 5-4 and finish the season with a 6-4 home win over Dundee.

Into the playoffs we went and a 2-legged semi final versus Brechin, the first would end 2-2 at Glebe Park as Brandy scored late to tie it. Then at home things fell apart, Brechin would go 2 up, a double 'Brandy tied it again before heartbreak saw the visitors score in the 92nd minute to clinch a 3-2 win (5-4 on agg). Next season should be a bit easier without Dundee, as Stirling come down whilst only Stenhousemuir will come up from the Third.
