Race 8 - March

Brendan Petersen began the race with a 2-0 loss at the Emirates Stadium but with Arsenal going top with their victory Sunderland won’t be too surprised, however sitting 18th in the league and 2 points from safety there may be cause for concern. A very impressive strike from Padraig O’Halloran helped Celtic to a 3-0 win, the Irishman’s strike was so powerful despite being straight at the keeper it still beat him, Mark Webber and Bob Mcbob played in the win over St Mirren. Ant FM08 played in a 3-0 loss to Dundee Utd. Lewis Hamilton’s curling effort beat the Rangers keeper to make it 2-0 to Hearts but a fight back in the last 10 minutes saw Rangers come out 2-3 winner, Haowan played but didn’t score.

Sunderland looked to make me eat my words this weekend as they smashed 6 goals past QPR, Brendan Petersen was right at the heart of the action as some good chest control allowed him to smash home from close range before he added to his tally with a well placed effort from 18 yards, Sunderland rose out of the relegation places and have a game in hand. While Sunderland look to stay in the Premiership Fulham are looking to get back there and when Mat Frith scored after some good skill got him into a good position it was to assure his side of the 3 points as they won 0-2 but he also got booked, Jack Smithston played from the bench. Leeds are still sitting on the fringes of a play-off place and although their 0-0 draw did little to improve that position it at least allowed Nicky a game. Two Ant FM08 goals in the opening 25 minutes saw him join Brendan Petersen at the front of the race but couldn’t prevent defeat for his side as they lost 3-5 to St Mirren. Hearts had a man sent off early in the game and Celtic wasted no time capitalising on their advantage, they went in at half time 3-0 up mainly thanks to a goal each from Mark Webber and Bob Mcbob. The champions pressed on in the second half and Mcbob scored an easy second goal and Celtic won 5-0, Padraig O’Halloran came from the bench and Lewis Hamilton played the full 90 minutes. It was all about the Falkirk drivers as they played away at Inverness CT, Alex Rodgers opened the scoring in the first half before Arthur White was left one-on-one with the keeper but instead of rounding him decided to beat him with an effort from 25 yards on 65 minutes. A good cross allowed Rodgers another goal, this time with a volley from inside the 6 yard box finding the top corner, Moony played for the losing side. On Sunday Hibs welcomed Rangers and Haowan opened the scoring with a headed goal inside 20 minutes, just before half time Mark Cator continued his good run of scoring as he beat Andrew Billen to a rebound and levelled things up. A flick on found Haowan inside the area in the second half and he kept his head to score his second of the game and give Rangers the lead, they were pegged back again though in the last minute for a 2-2 draw. Disappointed not to win the last race and disappointed to lose 2-1 to Lyon but Fuzzy Lightning got off to a good start as he looks to do well again this month as his headed goal was the only consolation in Sochaux’s defeat. Monday evening saw a 4-2 win for Motherwell over Aberdeen who had James Knowles in the side. Marky Mark played for Benfica as they drew 0-0 with Boavista.

On Tuesday night Mat Frith supplied the cross for Jack Smithston to head in and secure 3 points for Fulham as they beat Watford 0-2. Then on Thursday it was Uefa Cup time again and Brendan Petersen played in a 0-1 win at Ajax, Haowan and Michael Schumacher played in a 3-1 loss to Liverpool. Celtic hosted Udinese and it went downhill early on for the Italians, Mark Webber tapped in after less than two minutes to put his side head. It didn’t get any better for the visitors as Webber was on hand to score again from close range after just 8 minutes for his 30th of the season, Bob Mcbob completed a truly miserable opening 20 minutes for Udinese as he scored the best goal of the game with a volley from just inside the area. The Italians tried to fight back in the second half and managed a goal but Mark Webber tackled a defender just inside the 6 yards box and completed a scrappy hat-trick to give his side a 4-1 win.

The weekend started with a memorable Saturday afternoon for Mat Frith, the youngster rounded the keeper and put the ball in the net after just 40 seconds for his 5th goal of the season, less than 2 minutes later he was on hand again to finish cooly from 8 yards. After 25 minutes Frith had claimed his hat-trick as he put in a rebound from Jack Smithston’s shot, Mat repaid the favour in the second half as his saved effort allowed Smithston to score the rebound. Not done there Mat Frith went on to score again in the 91st minute and claim his 4th of the match while helping Fulham to a 3-5 win. Fuzzy Lightning played as Sochaux claimed a 1-0 win. On Sunday Brendan Petersen played for Sunderland as they fought for a 0-0 draw at Everton. It was Scottish Cup time north of the border and Michael Schumacher played as Rangers went through 1-2 at Morton. James Knowles scored Aberdeen’s second goal after just 11 minutes as his first time shot beat the keeper at his near post and Aberdeen went on to beat Kilmarnock and Ant FM08 2-0. Celtic went in at half time 1-0 up against St Johnstone and within 12 seconds of the restart Bob Mcbob had doubled the lead as he stole possession, played a one-two with Padraig O’Halloran and hammered past the keeper. Ten minutes later Mcbob headed in to double his tally and send Celtic on their way, Mark Webber had something to add though and his well placed effort from 6 yards found the top corner in the very last minute. Arthur White played a delightful pass for Alex Rodgers to open the scoring away at Hibernian and in doing so he picked up his 30th goal of the season, Mark Cator was on hand to head in at the near post from a corner to level things up in first half injury time. Three minutes into the second half and Alex Rodgers put the ball into the far corner to restore his sides lead and from then on it was all over, Andrew Billen came on but couldn’t affect the final 1-3 score line. Marky Mark headed in his first ever Benfica goal after just 65 seconds of football as he rose highest at a corner, the game ended 1-1 with Leiria.

Wednesday provided us with a fairly big shock, Moony having been out of contract for a while at Inverness CT, left the club. With Celtic, Rangers and Morton rumoured to be interested it may not be long before he has a new club. Also on Wednesday Alex Rodgers’ headed goal secured Falkirk a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock, Ant FM08 and Arthur White also played. Lewis Hamilton got his head on a free kick that had been pumped long into the box to put Hearts 1-0 up after 5 minutes, Hibs levelled things up 20 minutes later only for Hamilton to head in another goal to regain Hearts the lead. Barely a minute later there was another goal, this time Mark Cator took his time in controlling the ball but eventuall he fired into the bottom corner from 18 yards and it was 2-2 before the half hour mark which was how it ended.

The Uefa Cup was back on Thursday and Haowan came from the bench for Rangers who had 3 players sent off as they tried to overcome Liverpool, they managed it 1-0 but still crashed out on aggregate. So we looked to Celtic for some better news and we got it, although they lost 1-0 to Udinese it was enough to see them through, Mark Webber captained the side and Bob Mcbob played. Brendan Petersen and Sunderland provided us with the drama for the round as Ajax scored early and took the game to extra time, luckily an Ashley Young strike in the 102nd minute saw Sunderland through.

The weekend started with only two drivers in action in Scotland with Lewis Hamilton and Ant FM08 playing out a 0-0 draw. So we looked to France for some excitement but yet again we were disappointed as Fuzzy Lightning only played in a 2-1 loss. And so desperate for something to happen we turned to the Championship, luckily Jack Smithston had brought his scoring boots with him as Fulham played away at Coventry, who as luck would have it took an early lead, Fulham fought back and went in level at half time. Twelve minutes into the second period Jack Smithston produced some skill to beat two defenders inside the are then turned another defender inside out and placed the ball beyond the keeper for his 20th of the season. Smithston was on hand again just a little later as a header from Mat Frith’s cross was saved Smithston put in the rebound. On Sunday Brendan Petersen played in a 3-0 loss to Portsmouth while Marky Mark played in a 3-0 win over Rio Ave. Then all attention turned to the Scottish League Cup final between first and second placed sides Celtic and Falkirk. Things didn’t start well for Falkirk and after 20 minutes Padraig O’Halloran played a fantastic through ball for Bob Mcbob who finished with ease for his 40th of the season. Falkirk rallied and kept things as they were until an 83rd minute penalty was converted and looked like ending their dreams. Three minutes from time a good ball over the top of the defence found Alex Rodgers who produced a neat volley to make it 2-1. Celtic were too good to give up another goal though and as it happened Padraig O’Halloran was on hand to cross for another Celtic goal as he walked out with man of the match and Celtic the cup win, Mark Webber was on hand to pick up a winners medal as he came off the bench. Mark Webber then stunned the Celtic fans the following day by declaring he wanted to move to a bigger club, with Benfica, Lazio and Juventus all interested in the Australian he may get his wish sooner rather than later. On that same day a Mark Cator header found the far corner just after half time to rescue a point for his side as he and Andrew Billen played against Dundee Utd.

On Wednesday Haowan, Alex Rodgers and Arthur White all played as Rangers beat Falkirk 1-0. Also that evening Celtic cruised past Morton 0-3, Bob Mcbob opened the scoring from close range and two penalties from Mark Wilson saw the score at 0-3 before the break. Padraig O’Halloran was Mcbob’s strike partner while Mark Webber came off the bench in the second half, I’m sure that’s the best way to convince him to stay. :D

The race would end with some international games that saw two debuts, Moony played and scored on his debut for Albania in a 0-3 win over Moldova, Jack Smithston became an instant hit in the Irish squad as he smacked a hat-trick past Armenia on his debut and will surely be cursing that international games/goals don’t count towards his race total.

Petersen/Nick 3

Driver of the Day - Mat Frith goes from having not scored a single championship point to having scored 5 of them in a single race, he also puts his team on the scoreboard in the constructors race and for this achievement he is granted dotd. Meanwhile Bob Mcbob and Mark Webber are still battling it out for the drivers title, Webber is now 13 points off but with 2 races left it’s certainly possible for him to win all be it improbable. The race between the two of them has seen them blow away any early threats to their constructors crown and they are already champions.

2 points for Brendan is a great change. Pity Sunderland are fighting to avoid relegation. From their UEFA cup results you'd think they could challenging for top 5 or 6. Hopefully I can link up with Ash Young and get a few more goals to get in the points in the coming months.

Also, what stage of the UEFA Cup are we up to?

Race 9 - April

Following on from last months race win Bob Mcbob got off to another good start this month, he tapped in a rebound early on in the first half, Mark Webber added to the tally before half time as the goalkeeper and 3 defenders closed in on him he powered a shot through them all and into the net. Second half and Mcbob was played in again and scored again as Celtic went on to win 4-1 against Motherwell. Mark Cator and Andrew Billen both played but were both absent from the score sheet as Hibs beat Morton 2-0. Ant FM08 was able to rescue Kilmarnock a point as he reacted first to a rebound and tapped into an open net. Brendan Petersen played in a 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough. Mat Frith made a good run to the near post which allowed him the space to place the ball in the back of the net and gain Fulham a point which means they’re now guaranteed at least a playoff place. Nicky played for Leeds as they won 4-1 and moved up to 5th in the league. On Sunday Haowan came off the bench as Rangers beat St Mirren 1-2. Celtic were forced into action again on Monday and their fatigue showed as they only managed a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen, Padraig O’Halloran got his head to a long ball which put Celtic ahead, neither Bob Mcbob nor Mark Webber could add to the score. Falkirk held a short lived lead over Hearts as Lewis Hamilton levelled things up not even a minute after Falkirk had taken the lead, Alex Rodgers and Arthur White were involved but didn’t affect the score.

Wednesday evening saw Aberdeen now suffer from fixture congestion, they drew 2-2 with Falkirk with Alex Rodgers and Arthur White playing, Haowan came off the bench in a 1-0 win over Inverness CT. On Thursday Celtic played Sunderland in the Uefa Cup meaning that at least 1 driver will be featuring in the semi-finals, after the first match it looks like it could be Celtic, who ran out 2-0 winners. A defensive error let Mark Webber in and he rounded the keeper before tucking away to make it 1-0 and a 90th minute penalty doubled the lead after Webber had been subbed off, Bob Mcbob and Brendan Petersen both played.

At the weekend Nicky finally found the form required if Leeds want to gain promotion, the striker found the net twice in 3 minutes at just past the half hour mark and although he kept everyone waiting he knocked in his hat-trick in the last minute of the game to give his side the 3-0 win. Jack Smithston headed in a consolation goal for Fulham as they lost 1-2 to West Brom, Mat Frith also played. Arthur White left it a little late but he volleyed in to rescue Falkirk a point as he and Alex Rodgers played in a 1-1 draw with St Mirren. Mark Cator scored emphatically from just inside the area after 11 minutes en route to a 3-1 win over Aberdeen, unfortunately he was also booked. Lewis Hamilton turned well in the box and drove home an important equaliser for Hearts after 20 minutes, they went on to win 1-3 at Inverness CT. Two Ant FM08 goals before half time gave Kilmarnock a shock lead over Rangers but a second half red card allowed Rangers back into the game and it was substitute Haowan who came up with the equalising goal just 2 minutes from time, Michael Schumacher also played. Brendan Petersen opened the scoring for Sunderland on Sunday, scoring from about 2 yards to set his side on their way to a 2-1 win over Bolton. Fuzzy Lightning was also on the score sheet as his goal after 84 minutes earned his side a draw against Le Mans. Marky Mark continued his recent run in the Benfica side as they won 0-1, his participation was cut short thanks to a minor injury but he’ll be fit for next week. Padraig O’Halloran came back to haunt former club Dundee Utd as O’Halloran’s well placed effort from 18 yards doubled Celtic’s lead and after just 32 minutes Celtic led by 3 goals as O’Halloran picked out Mark Webber who still had a lot of work to do before scoring his 35th goal of the season, the game ended 3-0 with Bob Mcbob coming off the bench.

The Uefa Cup quarter finals second leg was at the centre of attention on Thursday, Sunderland already 2 goals down from the first leg would need a very good performance to go through against Celtic. In pushing for an early goal they left themselves very short at the back and not one to turn down an opportunity, Bob Mcbob latched onto a long ball, rounded the keeper and scored after 4 minutes. Things only got worse for the home side as after 10 minutes it was 0-2 and Celtic looked as good as through. Ten minutes into the second half and Mark Webber flicked the ball on for Mcbob who once again beat the keeper to send Celtic through 0-5 on aggregate, Brendan Petersen played but will want to forget his sides performance in a hurry.

Nicky started the weekend picking up where he left off last week, an early goal from the youngster set Leeds on their way and a second effort from Nicky that nearly broke the net saw Leeds win 2-3. Jack Smithston and Mat Frith played as Fulham drew 1-1. Fuzzy Lightning played in a 1-0 loss for his side. Lewis Hamilton played for Hearts as they won by a single goal away at Dundee Utd, Kilmarnock also won by a solitary goal with theirs coming from Ant FM08 after 64 minutes. Then in the Scottish Cup Aberdeen played Rangers with James Knowles, Michael Schumacher and Haowan all starting. The game was void of any action until twenty minutes from time when Haowan got his head on a cross to put his side a goal to the good, five minutes later a shot curled in off the outside of Haowan’s foot and flew past the keeper for 0-2 which was how it ended. Brendan Petersen’s near post header on Sunday really put the nail in Southampton’s coffin as it made it 3-1 to the northern side who went on to claim the 3 points and doom Southampton to relegation. The second Scottish Cup semi final followed and Alex Rodgers gave Falkirk an early lead as he broke through and beat the keeper after just 10 minutes. Celtic were 2 goals down before twenty minutes were up and when they missed a penalty on the stroke of half time they must have felt it wasn’t their day, a Bob Mcbob header gave them hope 12 minutes from time but Falkirk managed to hold out and claim a 2-1 win, Arthur White, Padraig O’Halloran and Mark Webber were all involved.

On Wednesday James Knowles played in a 2-1 win over Morton, the boys at Falkirk may have spent a little too much time celebrating their cup win and that showed as they got hammered 4-1 by Hibs, Arthur White, Alex Rodgers and Mark Cator all started but it was Andrew Billen who came off the bench to grab a 90th minute goal. Celtic on the other hand my have been knocked back by their defeat in the cup, Haowan was on the score sheet after barely 2 minutes to put his side ahead in the old firm derby. Mark Webber pounced on a rebound 5 minutes before half time to level things up but twenty minutes into the second half Michael Schumacher played in Haowan who finished well for his second and the 3 points, Bob Mcbob also played.

The weekend was the last opportunity for points for people playing in Scotland and drivers champion James Knowles took advantage of that as he scored in a 2-1 loss to Motherwell. Ant FM08 was also on the score sheet in a losing effort as his 5th minute strike saw Kilmarnock take the lead but end up losing 3-2 to Morton. A mix up between defender and goalkeeper allowed Lewis Hamilton an easy goal as his sole strike saw of Falkirk who had Arthur White and Alex Rodgers in the team. With the title already won and a big Uefa Cup game coming up Celtic rested Bob Mcbob and Mark Webber only came on as a sub, Padraig O’Halloran took full advantage and scored another two goals against his former club as Celtic won 1-4. Haowan put Rangers in the lead against Hibs with a well taken goal, Mark Cator scored an equalising goal after half time when the Rangers defence gave him far too much room, Michael Schumacher played and Andrew Billen was booked as the game finished 2-2. Brendan Petersen played for Sunderland as they lost 2-1 at Villa Park, Nicky scored his 20th goal of the season as Leeds lost 1-2 to Hull, Mat Frith knocked in a rebound for his 10th goal of the season and knocked in another rebound 7 minutes later to give Fulham a 0-2 win at Ipswich, Jack Smithston played. On Sunday former drivers champion Loic Flamilson started a game for PSV as they managed a 1-2 win, Fuzzy Lightning ran with the ball from the half way line before chipping the keeper to claim his sides only goal in a 1-2 loss.

On Monday Brendan Petersen played as Sunderland clinched a 1-1 draw with Man City and held onto their 17th place, two points clear of relegation. In the Championship Fulham were confirmed as champions partly thanks to 2 goals from Mat Frith, the first was a bullet from 20 yards and Fulham claimed a 4-0 win over Southend, Jack Smithston also played. Nicky scored twice for Leeds as they beat Leicester 1-3 and secured themselves a place in the playoffs.

Things started well at Celtic Park on Thursday as they hosted FC Bayern in the semi finals of the Uefa Cup, Mark Webber finished from close range after Bob Mcbob had hit the bar. Things continued to go the way of the home side as Webber scored a fantastic goal from 30 yards before half time. Bayern staged a come back though and the game ended 2-2, not a bad result for Celtic but considering they were 2-0 up they’ll be disappointed.

Final lap of the race and Brendan Petersen made a last push for some points, Sunderland were 4-1 down at half time but two goals from the Aussie, the first a delightful chip saw Sunderland lose 4-3. Fuzzy Lightning went one better though, his side went in at half time 1-0 down but a hat-trick from Fuzzy helped them to a 2-5 victory, the pick of his goals was the second, a powerful effort from 25 yards beating the keeper. Mikael Schøler will be delighted to have returned to action for Rosenborg this month but disappointed to not find the net in his 3 games.

Driver of the Day - Easy to award this month as Nicky found the sort of form he has shown previously to pick up his 4th race win of all time and in doing so pushed Leeds into the playoffs. The drivers championship looks all but over however it is still mathematically possible for Mark Webber to win providing he is victorious next month and Bob Mcbob doesn’t finish in the points which looks unlikely.

Tis has easily got to be Billens worst season yet, think its time he had a fresh start somewhere, anyone interested in him, or is he looking like being there next season to.

He wants to be transfer listed and wants to move to a bigger club but nobody's interested so.......

Race 9 - April

Mikael Schøler will be delighted to have returned to action for Rosenborg this month but disappointed to not find the net in his 3 games.

I knew sitting still in the norwegian woods made me slow and out of practice. I guess I should have kept my shooting skills up.

Any news on a transfer or something?

Am I unhappy yet? I want a game or a move.

I'm afraid not, you're currently "looking to gain first team experience from going on loan" which may not be such a bad thing, James Knowles won the drivers championship off the back of a season on loan so could be good for Gold member if someone takes him on loan.

Took slightly longer than I anticipated but still, here is the final race of the season...

Race 10 - May

Brendan Petersen’s time as the sign-ups best paid player was cut short as Bob Mcbob and Mark Webber signed new deals at Celtic with Webber earning slightly more on £50k p/w.

The race started with Celtic’s Uefa Cup adventure and unfortunately the adventure is over, two goals for Bayern inside 25 minutes left things looking bad for the Scottish club and although Bob Mcbob played in Mark Webber who smashed the ball past the keeper on 44 minutes they couldn’t find another goal and fell short at the final hurdle, Webber was also booked.

It was the last game in the Championship, except the playoffs, for the season so that’s where we start this weekend. Jack Smithston and Mat Frith played as Fulham drew 0-0 away at Wigan and Fulham now prepare for another season of Premiership football. Nicky seems to have hit form at just the right time, going into the playoffs, two well taken goals from the young striker earned his side a draw with Wolves. Across the water Fuzzy Lightning played as Sochaux smashed in 5 goals to win 5-1, Marky Mark played for Benfica as they won 0-1 and with one game to go they’re battling it out for second place with Sporting CP. In Scotland Mark Cator scored for Hibernian as they drew 2-2 with Dundee Utd while Arthur White, Alex Rodgers, Michael Schumacher and Haowan played in a 2-1 win for Falkirk, Haowan smacked his face on the steering wheel picking up a broken nose and keeping him out for a week. James Knowles headed in to try and rescue some points for Aberdeen but Kilmarnock ran out 3-2 winners with Ant FM08 in the team. Padraig O’Halloran got on the end of a fantastic cross to level Celtic up with Hearts but with 10 minutes left the Hearts manager switched to the infamous 4-2-4 formation and as we all could have guessed it worked, Lewis Hamilton was the hero as his goal gave Hearts a win away from home. Mark Webber was also involved.

Quick Nick made his Werder Bremen debut on Wednesday in a 1-2 loss to Hannover.

The following weekend saw the beginning of the playoffs for Leeds and although not on the score sheet Nicky played in a 1-0 win over Wigan. James Knowles found the net again for Aberdeen as they won 3-1, if only he’d found this sort of form earlier in the season he might have had a chance at defending his title. Ant FM08 played in a 1-1 draw with Motherwell while Arthur White and Alex Rodgers played in a 2-0 win over Dundee Utd. Celtic claimed a last gasp win thanks to a header from Padraig O’Halloran in the 92nd minute to make it a 3-2 win over Hibs, Mark Webber, Bob Mcbob and Mark Cator were all involved. Lewis Hamilton beat a defender then slotted into the back of the net to double Hearts’ lead over Rangers, the game finished 3-1 with Rangers consolation goal coming from Michael Schumacher, Haowan also played. Fuzzy Lightning scored twice in the opening 10 minutes to claim his 30th goal of the season as his side won 4-2, Quick Nick came on for his second appearance this time in a slightly better game for his side as they won 5-1. Sunderland faced the threat of relegation on Sunday as they travelled to 4th placed Liverpool knowing that a win would secure their place in the premier league. Anything less and if West Ham beat already relegated QPR then Sunderland would go down. Things went the way of the northerners though as they beat Liverpool 0-1 making the other result (a 2-2 draw) meaningless and although he didn’t score Brendan Petersen was there to celebrate the clubs safety. Marky Mark played for Benfica in a 3-1 win which meant they finished the season 3rd.

The second leg of the playoffs came around on Tuesday night and it was a nervy affair for Leeds, they lost 2-1 to Wigan taking the match to penalties. Nicky had been subbed off with 20 minutes to go and was spared the responsibility of taking a spot kick and that may have been a good thing as Leeds won to reach the final.

Saturday started with James Knowles pushing hard for a race win as he helped himself to a goal in each half against Inverness CT in a 1-2 win, the first described as “a scorcher from distance” was his 15th of the season. Ant FM08 tried his best to leave Kilmarnock on a high, he departs for Newcastle next season and he will be missed by the fans. At 2-0 down it didn’t look good but he pulled Kilmarnock level all by himself, his brace earned him man of the match but St Mirren went on to score a third and winning goal. Sunday would see the last SPL games of the season and several drivers set out to impress. Haowan and Michael Schumacher failed to impress though as neither scored in a 1-2 loss to Dundee Utd. From then on it was goals, goals and more goals. Arthur White started it off as he scored for Falkirk against Celtic, Mark Webber scored twenty minutes later to reduce the deficit as Falkirk led 3-2. In the second half Celtic pulled level and then two goals from Padraig O’Halloran won them the game as well as putting him in a good position for some points. Mark Cator scored to collect his 30th goal of the season after just 3 minutes to put his side 1-0 up against Hearts, Lewis Hamilton equalised 5 minutes before the break. Barely two minutes after Hamilton had scored Cator headed in to restore the lead but Hamilton scored again in first half injury time and they went in at the break level. Hibs scored 2 minutes after the restart but only 3 minutes later Hamilton scored again for his hat-trick, Hibs seemed unable to control the youngster and just 2 minutes later Lewis Hamilton was on the score sheet for the 4th time and eventually it was enough to win an exciting game 3-4.

The only games left involving our driver that remained were two finals, the Scottish Cup final and the playoff final. None of the drivers involved looked in a position to win the race but an exceptional performance from one player could see them get a podium finish, maybe sneak the win.

We didn’t see anything spectacular in the Scottish cup final as possibly one of the most boring cup finals ever finished 0-0 aet. So it went to penalties and Arthur White, Alex Rodgers and Michael Schumacher all scored in the shootout and in the end Falkirk came out the winners, Haowan also played. The playoff final was much more exciting as two former Premiership teams, Leeds and Derby battled to reclaim a place in the top flight. Nicky scored 5 minutes before half time to make it 2-1 to Leeds and when they scored again in looked like it was over, Derby weren’t finished though and pulled it level in the very last seconds of the game. A scoreless extra time led to penalties and it was Leeds who triumphed to once again reach the heights of the premier league. Mikael Schøler was the only driver left to be accounted for and he played 3 times for Rosenborg but again failed to score, not the way to get yourself a summer transfer that’ll enable him to properly compete for the title.

Driver of the Day - Well his first ever race win earned him third in the drivers championship and his team second in the constructors championship so it has to be Lewis Hamilton. The drivers title went right down the line in the closest contest so far, Bob Mcbob did his bit to keep the excitement alive by not finishing in the points but Mark Webber couldn’t capitalise and allowed Mcbob the win. The competition between the two team mates pushed them far above anyone else in the constructors race and if we’re honest that championship was won a long time ago.

Not a great race for Brendan or his team although Sunderland beat Liverpool to survive relegation. They must be either the most inconsistent team or they just like beating the big teams like Liverpool, Ajax and Roma.

I'm surprised they didn't do better they have some good players: Ashley Young, David Bentley, Diego Forlan, Michael Dawson and some others too.

Fantastic ending to the season for Lewis Hamilton, hopefully he can build on it for next season and get higher than 3rd place. :)

Hearts missing out on a Champions League spot by goal difference as well :(

Fantastic Update, KUTGW

**Transfers**

Just two weeks after the end of the season a bidding war sparked up for Fuzzy Lightning, Napoli and Barcelona went head to head over the American and both had bids of around £14m accepted. Fuzzy opted for the La Liga and signed for Barcelona for £14.25m plus clauses.

It’s now two seasons since Loic Flamilson last won the drivers championship and after two unsuccessful moves the Frenchman made another one, this time a £6m move to Everton.

Ontoth Eleftside was involved in an exchange deal that saw him move to League 1 Southend.

One last move was on the cards before the start of the first race, Lewis Hamilton had the choice of Portsmouth and Fulham and quite surprisingly he chose to join Jack Smithston and Mat Frith at newly promoted Fulham for £7.25m but the fee could reach £9m.

Race 1 - August

The excitment had been building as the start of the new season neared, several summer transfers had already taken place and the drivers new hope while other had stayed put and looked to build on last season, other players would be out to impress as with still a month of the transfer window to go they want to move on to bigger things and so we got the season underway.

Celtic got the defence of their title underway as they look to win their 4th SPL title in a row, it started well as a goal each from Padraig O’Halloran and drivers champion Bob Mcbob helping them to a 0-5 win at newly promoted Dunfermline. Alex Rodgers and Arthur White both played in a 1-2 win over Morton while Haowan came on as a sub in a 1-0 win over St Mirren. Andrew Billen scored the 4th goal for Hibs as they beat James Knowles and Aberdeen 2-4.

James Knowles opened his account for the season as he scored the fifth and final goal for Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup as they went through on Wednesday.

The weekend kicked off with a debut for Lewis Hamilton as he partnered Jack Smithston up front for a 0-1 loss at Portsmouth, Mat Frith came from the bench. Brendan Petersen played for Sunderland as they lost 2-0 at Everton, Loic Flamilson didn’t even make the bench. Mark Cator played for Southampton as they cruised past Wolves 4-1 in a promising start to their Championship campaign. In Scotland Alex Rodgers and Arthur White played in a 0-1 win and Haowan played in a 5-0 win for Rangers. On Sunday a goal each from Mark Webber and Bob Mcbob gave Celtic a 1-2 win over Andrew Billen and Hibs. Nicky made his Premiership debut as Leeds lost to Birmingham. On Monday afternoon Moony joined his team mate Ontoth Eleftside in League 1 as he signed for Blackpool. Back on the pitch and James Knowles may have aspirations of regaining his drivers title and continued in the Aberdeen side, putting the finishing touches on a 3-0 win as he rounded the keeper to slot in.

On Wednesday Arthur White scored a wonderful curling effort after 4 minutes to put Falkirk 0-1 up in their champions league qualifier against Partizan. Alex Rodgers doubled the lead with a header less than ten minutes later and the game ended 0-2. The English League Cup gave Mark Cator another opportunity to open his account on the south coast and he did just that opening the scoring after less than a minute as his side beat Grays 2-1. Moony made his debut for Blackpool as they lost 2-1 to Chesterfield. There were a few firsts in the Premiership that evening, Loic Flamilson made his first appearance for Everton as he played 80 minutes of a 0-3 win against Middlesbrough. Nicky scored his first Premiership goal as his near post header from a corner beat Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal, unfortunately Leeds lost 3-1. Jack Smithston scored an equaliser against Arsenal as Fulham looked to pull off an upset but the gunners proved to strong in the end and won 2-1. Brendan Petersen contributed heavily to a 4-1 win for Sunderland over Reading, a good goal from the Australian made it 1-0 before the 10 minute mark and an even better goal doubled the lead before half time.

Saturday was a memorable day for Nicky as although he didn’t score he captained Leeds to a respectable 1-1 draw with Man Utd, Loic Flamilson played the full 90 minutes as Everton won 2-0 and Brendan Petersen scored but couldn’t help Sunderland avoid a 3-2 defeat at Bolton. In the lower leagues Mark Cator played in a 2-2 draw, Ontoth Eleftside played in a 0-0 draw with Crewe and Moony helped himself to a rather good goal in a 3-4 loss against Brentford. In Scotland Alex Rodgers and Arthur White played in a 1-0 win while Haowan played in a 0-2 loss, Andrew Billen scored the opening goal as Hibs won 0-3. Two drivers champions met at Celtic Park as Bob Mcbob clashed with James Knowles, Mcbob got the upper hand early on with two goals in the opening 25 minutes. Padraig O’Halloran got in on the act and scored in the second half but James Knowles took away some consolation knowing he scored the best goal of the game as his effort curled past the keeper from 20 yards and the game ended 3-1, Mark Webber played from the bench. Quick Nick played the last ten minutes of a 2-1 loss to Gladbach. Last up was Fuzzy Lightning making his Barcelona debut as he came on to play 15 minutes as his team lost 3-1 in the Super Cup against arch rivals Real Madrid. On Sunday Jack Smithston and Lewis Hamilton started up front for Fulham but it was Mat Frith who came from the bench to score their consolation goal in a 1-2 loss to Aston Villa.

Nicky followed up his memorable weekend by picking up his first cap for Scotland, he also picked up a booking in a 1-1 draw with Wales.

The following weekend saw Bob Mcbob, Padraid O’Halloran and Mark Webber all play in a 3-0 win while James Knowles played in a 2-1 loss, Andrew Billen however fired in 2 goals in a 4-0 victory, the second being a wonderful free kick in the 90th minute. His team mate Mark Cator had an equally good day as he scored twice for Southampton as they beat Ipswich 5-2. Moony played for Blackpool as they lost to Walsall. In the Premiership Nicky played as Leeds went one better than last week and beat one of the “big four” Liverpool were on the wrong end of a 0-1 score line, Brendan Petersen played in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle and Jack Smithston, Lewis Hamilton and Mat Frith played in a 0-2 win for Fulham over Blackburn. The real story for the day though was two time drivers champion Loic Flamilson finding the back of the net for the first time in a very long time, a wonderful strike from 18 yards after 80 minutes saw his team gain a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium and at the moment, top the table. On Sunday Alex Rodgers scored his 50th goal for Falkirk fromm all of 35 yards, the fact the goalkeeper was nowhere near his goal made it less special than it otherwise might have been. His goal had put Rangers a goal down and it was 2-0 on 11 minutes, Rangers fought back though and Michael Schumacher headed them level 3 minutes from the end, Haowan and Arthur White also played. Fuzzy Lightning came off the bench again for Barcelona as the kicked of La Liga season with a 0-0 draw. Marky Mark played in a 1-0 win for Benfica.

There was yet another transfer for Mikael Schøler as Schalke paid £7.25m for his services and I know he’ll be delighted to have returned to a playable league and more importantly a league that will allow him to compete for the championship.

On Tuesday James Knowles picked up a booking as Aberdeen progressed to the next round of the Scottish League Cup 0-3. The English League Cup provided us with the last action for the race on Wednesday evening and Mat Frith scored a winning goal for Fulham as they won 2-1 against Colchester, Lewis Hamilton also played. Nicky played for Leeds as they also went through 2-1 as they played Sheffield Wednesday. Mark Cator has wasted no time impressing the Southampton fans and a 9th minute goal followed by a penalty to help Saints to a 4-0 win over MK Dons really put him in their good books, it may also have just been enough to win him the race. Also that day there was good and bad news for Alex Rodgers, Falkirk drew 0-0 with Partizan to qualify for the group stages of the champions league but Rodgers picked up a torn calf muscle keeping him out for 3-4 months, Arthur White played and was booked. Mikael Schøler played 3 times and scored once for Rosenborg before moving to Schalke where he is yet to play.

Driver of the Day - This was a tough one for me to give, on one hand you have Mark Cator who picked up his third career victory but the first for a very long time and on the other hand you have his team mate Andrew Billen who having been freed by Cator’s departure went on to record his highest ever finish. In the end though you can hardly overlook the first race winner for the season so I’m giving it to Cator but I think Billen may be one to watch out for this season.

spartan5 - I have a screenshot of the Barcelona squad for you here and I also thought I'd give you the La Liga table from last season as well.
