Right an end of season review of sorts, in other words the final league tables :D

English Premier Division

English Championship

English League 1

Bundesliga

Bwin Liga

Scottish Premier League

La Liga

I'll also include last seasons Serie A, becasue somebody has made a big money move to Inter.

Alright, Benfica as champions! I'm sure they couldn't have done it without Marky Mark... although to be honest I hope I make that big money move to Serie A, I need to play more games!

Euro 2012

Lewis Hamilton played 4 times and scored twice for England as they went on a run to the semi finals where they eventually lost 2-1. Both of Hamilton's goals came in a 4-3 win over Holland.

Mikael Schøler was the only other driver called up for the tournament but he didn't play a single minute for Denmark.

**Transfers**

In the only transfer made before the start of race 1, other than those that had already been dealt with, Brendan Petersen stunned the Sunderland fans just weeks after winning the FA Cup he declared he wanted to move to a club where he would win trophies, £17.75m later he was off to Inter after rejecting Liverpool, Villarreal and Sunderland’s new offer.

Wow.

Just as I was finding form at Sunderland and then this, although I most certainly will not complain with a £17.75m transfer to the Italian Champions. Hopefully they can have even more success next year now that I'm on board.

The only downside could be that I don't get as much gametime. Who am I likely to be up against for spots in the starting XI?

So after a short break the FMGP season got back underway........

Race 1 - August

Celtic had an absolutely unforgettable season last time out winning 4 trophies, they started this campaign with 4 goals, the first was a headed attempt from Padraig O’Halloran. The second was a headed goal from 2 time drivers champion Bob Mcbob 4 minutes before the break and Mcbob headed in another to make it 3-0 just a minute after half time and in the end they beat Falkirk 4-0. Nicky began life back in the Championship with Leeds as he came on as a sub in a 0-2 win, Andrew Billen kicked off his Hull career in style, a goal in first half injury time put his side 1-0 up. Billen doubled his tally and his sides lead 20 minutes into the second period when he turned and fired past the keeper following a corner, the icing on the cake came 12 minutes from time when he shot across the keeper and into the far corner to claim his hat-trick on debut and give his side a 3-0 win over Wigan. A poor backpass allowed Moony to nip in and score a goal as Blackpool won 4-0. Mikael Schøler got his season underway as Schalke progressed 4-1 in the German Cup with Schøler scoring one in each half. On Sunday Quick Nick played for Werder Bremen as they went through 0-1 in the German Cup and James Knowles and Haowan played in a 1-1 draw between their sides in the SPL.

Andrew Billen may have got off to a quick start in the race but it was Nicky who got off to a quick start in a match between the two, a free kick took two deflections before landing at the feet of Nicky for an easy finish to put Leeds 1-0 up after 23 minutes and they went on to win 4-0.

Michael Schumacher completed a loan move to Mainz during the week and he scored on debut against Koln to make it 1-0, his side lost the lead and eventually the game 1-2 on Friday night. On Saturday Nicky played for Leeds as they beat Plymouth 0-1 and went top of the table, Andrew Billen extended his early lead as he latched onto a good through ball and beat the keeper at his near post in a 2-0 win over QPR. The English Premier League season kicked off with a 0-3 win for Newcastle as they beat Birmingham with both Gold Member and Ant FM08 coming off the bench. Mark Cator played for Southampton as they managed a 3-3 draw away at Everton, Loic Flamilson made his debut for Aston Villa in a 4-1 loss to Preston. Haowan played in a 2-2 draw with Hearts. Lewis Hamilton may be the subject of a £25m bid from Roma but he didn’t let that affect his game on Sunday, not in a bad way at least. He opened the scoring after less than 2 minutes with a well placed finish, he then took it off the toe of Jack Smithston to score his second 15 minutes later before returning the favour and playing in Smithston who made it 3-0, five minutes before the break. Alex Rodgers came off the bench for his debut in the second half and Mat Frith was also introduced but Hamilton overshadowed them both when he grabbed his hat-trick just over 20 minutes from time. Also on Sunday Bob Mcbob grabbed a brace for the second game in a row, this time within the opening 20 minutes and Padraig O’Halloran got his obligatory goal against his former club in a 0-3 win over Dundee Utd. On Monday night James Knowles headed in from barely a yard out to give his side the lead just past the half hour but they eventually drew 1-1 with Motherwell.

On Tuesday Loic Flamilson enjoyed an infinitely better 2nd game for Aston Villa than his first game, the Frenchman scored a delightful strike from the edge of the area to put his team ahead and they went onto win 2-0 against Pompey. Andrew Billen played as Hull progressed to the next round of the League Cup on penalties against Notts County. Moony played on Wednesday night as Blackpool were knocked out of the same competition, Mikael Schøler played in a 0-1 win in a Champions League qualifier and Mark Cator played in a 1-2 loss in the EPL to Derby.

Mark Webber made his Tottenham debut on Saturday and he marked it with a goal just seconds before half time, the Australian put home a rebound to make it 2-0. Loic Flamilson was on the opposing side and they managed a comeback in the second half and the game ended 2-2, the race also ended for Mark Webber, a torn groin muscle 6 minutes from time will see him miss 2 months of action. Mark Cator played for Southampton as they drew 2-2 with West Ham, Nicky played for Leeds as they lost 0-1 against Charlton and Andrew Billen continued his wonderful start to life at Hull with a goal in each half against Colchester. The first strike earned him his 5th goal of the season and both were supplied by Ricardo Vaz Te with whom Billen seems to have formed a deadly partnership. Michael Schumacher played for Mainz in a 0-2 win, Mikael Schøler started a Schalke move that resulted in a headed goal for the Dane which earned his side a 1-1 draw. Bob Mcbob seemed to take forever to get his shot away but when he eventually did it found the back of the net to double his sides advantage, Padraig O’Halloran showed some lovely control to bring down a clearance from the goalkeeper before using a defender as cover to slot his shot into the near corner and give Celtic a 4-0 win over Hibs. On Sunday Haowan played in a 1-2 win over Falkirk in the SPL before Fulham pulled off quite the surprise win in a London derby. Lewis Hamilton continued his early scoring, in the race if not the game, as he finished from inside the area for 1-0 after 75 minutes and Jack Smithston rounded the keeper to make it 2-0 just a minute later as Fulham triumphed 2-1 over Arsenal. On Monday James Knowles scored from the edge of the area deep into injury time with a very good strike to make in only a 6-1 loss to Hearts. Brendan Petersen made his debut for Inter in the Super Cup, he played just over an hour for the Italian champions as they eventually lost on penalties to Udinese.

Wednesday was a fairly non profitable day for nearly all of those who played, Loic Flamilson played in a 0-0 draw with Man City, Mark Cator played in a 4-0 win over Blackburn, Ant FM08 played in a 0-0 draw with Derby. Andrew Billen played in a 2-0 win for Hull whilst Nicky played in a 0-1 loss. In fact the only driver to score was Jack Smithston who scored a 92nd minute consolation goal in a 4-2 loss to Man Utd, the assist came from Lewis Hamilton.

Fuzzy Lightning got his season off to a cracking start with a cracking effort from 25 yards to bring 10 man Barcelona level in the second half, it was to no avail however as they lost 2-1. Haowan struck his first goal of the season and 50th goal for Rangers from 25 yards just 2 minutes into a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock. James Knowles played for Aberdeen in 0-0 draw, Padraig O’Halloran headed in from less than a yard to put Celtic 0-1 to the good and they went on to win 1-3. Mark Cator played for Southampton in a 1-0 loss to Preston, Jack Smithston headed Fulham level after 17 minutes with Birmingham and Lewis Hamilton headed them level again less than 10 minutes into the second half before Hamilton’s deflected effort found the net to give Fulham a 3-2 win, Gold Member also played. Andrew Billen held on to his lead as he played in a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forrest but Hull lost their lead at the top of the table thanks to a powerful first half finish and a second half header from Nicky which helped Leeds to a 3-0 win and to the top of the table. Mikael Schøler and Michael Schumacher both played in a 3-1 win and 1-1 draw respectively. Marky Mark made his first appearance for the season in a 2-2 draw on Sunday, Loic Flamilson did everything he could to earn his team a point as first he scored with a deflected effort before hammering in a second from a tight angle and level things up at 3-3 but a 90th minute goal saw his side lose 3-4 to Sunderland.

Ontoth Eleftside joined Watford for £22k without having ever played for Southend.

We entered the final lap and the race looked set to be decided by the English League Cup, Andrew Billen held the lead but Lewis Hamilton was looking like a strong contender with Jack Smithston and Loic Flamilson also in with a chance. Outside of England Bob Mcbob and Padraig O’Halloran were looking set for points finishes but would be hoping for no goals for any of the drivers in England if they wanted podium finishes.

On Wednesday Mikael Schøler played in a win for Schalke as they went through to the group stages of the champions league. In the League Cup Nicky played in a 1-3 win after extra time over Burnley, Andrew Billen picked up what could be a costly booking in a 0-1 win over Wigan. Ontoth Eleftside marked his Watford debut with the second of their three goals as he headed in as they beat Sheffield Utd, Jack Smithston scored for Fulham as they beat Leyton Orient 2-1 with Lewis Hamilton also playing and finally Loic Flamilson scored half of the Aston Villa goals as he scored twice in a 0-4 win over Charlton.

The race would end with not action on the pitch but with the transfer saga of the summer finally ending, Lewis Hamilton had been the subject of bids from Roma, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Everton and several other clubs over the course of the window. Fulham had rejected a £26m offer for the young Englishman from Roma only a week or two ago but Roma came back and had a £20.6m bid accepted, from nowhere a £16m bid came in from Reading which was also accepted, Hamilton had the decision to make Reading or Roma. And it’s fair to say he surprised everybody when he opted for the less prestigious Madejski Stadium and Reading.

Driver of the Day - How can it not go to the first race winner of the season? Andrew Billen had a new club and a torrid last season to deal with but he rose above it all not only to claim victory but his first ever race victory. It’s very early days to be predicting what the future holds for any of the drivers and after my early predictions about Billen last year, I’ll say nothing this time. The big question as far as I’m concerned is: was Lewis Hamilton’s move to Reading a good one? A second place finish at Fulham and some strong performances at the back end of last season would suggest he might have made a mistake but, only time will tell.

Cracking start for Billen, I knew getting away from Hibs, would be a good move. First ever race win, and early pace setter. Heres hoping I dont have one good month and then fall away like previous seasons, added bonus no kiss of death predictions either lol, keep up the good work.

  • 2 weeks later...

Apologies for a bit of a delay but finally we have Race 2...

Race 2 - September

Celtic played in the Super Cup on Friday and it gave Bob Mcbob the chance to move into an early lead as he scored in a 1-2 loss to Valencia, Padraig O’Halloran played but was involved in a collision that required him to pit, he was eventually released but was some way behind the pack and with up to 3 weeks out it will be tough to catch up.

Saturday was debut day for Lewis Hamilton at the Madejski, he played but it was in a disappointing 1-2 loss to Tottenham. With Hamilton gone it looks like Alex Rodgers will be the man to replace him, Rodgers scored a 73rd minute goal in a 3-1 loss to Sunderland that also involved Jack Smithston. Mark Cator went into the weekend without a Premiership goal to his name which definitely wasn’t good going into a south coast derby with Portsmouth, seventeen minutes in though a terrible clearance put Pompey in trouble and Cator picked up his first goal of the season from less than a yard. His second came from slightly further out, but not much as he rounded the keeper and scored from 6 yards after 34 minutes to make it 4-0 to his team, the game ended 5-2. The Ipswich goalkeeper managed to keep out two efforts from Leeds but Nicky finally beat him following his double save after 18 minutes to put Leeds ahead but Ipswich eventually won 3-2, Andrew Billen continued his good form as he found the top corner from 20 yards half way through the second half in a 2-0 win over West Brom. Ontoth Eleftside managed his second goal for Watford in as many games, it turned out to be a crucial one as well in a 4-4 draw at Tranmere. Michael Schumacher played for Mainz in a 2-0 loss while his team mate Haowan played in a 0-0 draw with St Mirren, then it was James Knowles’ time to shine. Knowles fired in from an angle after 18 minutes to equalise for his side away at Kilmarnock, just before half time he scored from just inside the area to put his team in the lead and then 20 minutes into the second half a header flew into the top corner for James Knowles’ hat-trick and he took the race lead. Sunday saw very little in the way of action, Ant FM08 played in a 0-1 loss while Mikael Schøler played in a 5-1 loss.

Wednesday evening started with Bob Mcbob playing but not scoring in a 4-0 win for Celtic, Mikael Schøler grabbed himself a second half brace with a well placed effort and a near post flick on in a 3-0 win. Ant FM08 also netted a near post header as he made it 4-0 to his side just two minutes before half time against Fulham, Jack Smithston beat the offside trap twice in the opening 15 minutes of the second period to make it 4-2, the second being assisted by Mat Frith who picked up a yellow card. Fulham had a man sent off with 20 minutes to go and Newcastle punished them for it, Ant FM08 picked up his second of the night from 6 yards with 3 minutes to go and made it 6-2 which was how it ended.

Saturday started with the current and former drivers champions both playing but failing to score as their side scored 3 goals, Bob Mcbob played in a 2-3 win over Motherwell and James Knowles played in a 3-1 win over St Mirren. Haowan benefited from some crazy goalkeeping as the Dundee Utd keeper threw the ball straight to Haowan only 8 yards from goal and he put Rangers 1-0 up. There was nothing fortunate about his second goal as he powered in from a tight angle two minutes before half time and the game ended 2-0. Gold Member came off the bench for Birmingham as they beat West Ham 2-1, Lewis Hamilton got goal side of his defender and blasted into the top corner to grab his first Reading goal 5 minutes into their 1-0 win over Loic Flamilson and Aston Villa. Mark Cator played in a 0-0 draw with Man City, Leeds captain Nicky grabbed his 5th goal of the season after 10 minutes to put his team ahead and they went on to beat Millwall 3-0, Andrew Billen played in a 0-0 draw with Wolves. Ontoth Eleftside seems to have found new life at Watford, a goal in each half, both with him chipping the ball over the keeper and into the far corner helped Watford to a 2-4 win at Cardiff. Mikael Schøler kicked off Sunday as he played in a 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen, Marky Mark played for Benfica as they earned a 0-1 victory. In the English Premier League team mates Alex Rodgers and Jack Smithston combined to create Fulham’s first goal, Rodgers found Smithston who curled round the keeper and into the bottom corner, Smithston sealed the deal for Fulham with 7 minutes left on the clock when some bad control from a defender gave him the ball just 7 yards out and he hammered into the bottom corner for a 2-0 win over Derby.

Champions League action on Tuesday gave Haowan a chance to impress in front of the crowd at Old Trafford, unfortunately Rangers were on the end of a 5-1 thumping and Haowan didn’t score the consolation goal. Nicky and Andrew Billen were also both in action on Tuesday as they played in 1-3 and 1-0 wins respectively. On Wednesday Marky Mark came off the bench in a 3-0 win over Celtic, who had both Bob Mcbob and Padraig O’Halloran in the side, it seems likely that’s the only time Marky will be getting one over on his fellow drivers this season unless he starts scoring. Mikael Schøler was subbed off at half time in what was an eventual 4-1 loss to Real Madrid, Fuzzy Lightning got his race started coming from the bench as Barcelona triumphed 3-1 over Chelsea. On Thursday in the Uefa Cup Quick Nick fired Werder Bremen into an early lead with a close range effort and they went onto win 0-3. There was good and bad news for James Knowles as Aberdeen won 2-1, that was the good news, the bad news was a pulled hamstring keeping him out for up to 4 weeks.

Schalke started the weekend with a dramatic win over Koln, it was deep in the 93rd minute of the game when the ball arrived at Mikael Schøler’s feet, 18 yards from goal and the Dane didn’t think twice about having a go. His curling effort beat the keeper to make it 2-1 and give his side the 3 points and make up for his booking. Michael Schumacher played as Mainz lost 1-2 and Marky Mark played again for Benfica as they won 3-1, the Australian is getting plenty of game time in recent weeks but just can’t find the net. Ontoth Eleftside played for Watford in a 3-0 win while Moony grabbed a consolation goal in a 1-2 loss for Blackpool. An incredible team goal saw Nicky grab a goal ten minutes after half time, seven short, quick passes in and around the box eventually put the Leeds captain through and he rounded the keeper to double the advantage in a game that ended 3-0. Leeds are locked in a battle at the top of the Championship with Hull and it was Hull who remained top after this round of games, three minutes after Nicky had scored Andrew Billen scored a goal that might have been offside, the assist once again coming from Vaz Te. Billen wasn’t finished though and there could be no doubt over his second goal, he controlled a long goal kick before beating 2 defenders and making his way towards goal where he casually rolled the ball past the onrushing keeper from 18 yards to secure the win. Aston Villa played Southampton in the Premiership with both Loic Flamilson and Mark Cator playing in a 2-0 win for Villa, Lewis Hamilton played in a 2-0 loss to Chelsea and then off to a London derby. West Ham welcomed Fulham and for the second week in succession it was to be the Rodgers and Smithston show, team mates in FMGP and team mates on the field these two seem to have reformed the partnership that began at Motherwell. Indeed it was one setting up the other for Fulham’s opener as Alex Rodgers delayed and delayed a pass before finally setting up Jack Smithston who found the back of the net. Two minutes after half time Smithston returned the favour and Rodgers calmly side footed past the keeper and into the corner. There was to be another goal for Fulham late in injury time and again it was the combination of Rodgers and Smithston all be it unintentionally, Jack Smithston’s shot was saved and Alex Rodgers picked up a brace when he put away the rebound. On Sunday Haowan grabbed a 93rd minute goal to earn Rangers a point against Hibs, a close range finish resulted in the 1-1 draw, Bob Mcbob took on the keeper and won as he finished from a tight angle to double Celtic’s lead against Hearts and they went on to win 3-1 and they already have an 8 point lead at the top of the SPL. Fuzzy Lightning was a key part of the move that earned Barcelona a win, the American played a short free kick before making his way into the box where he was picked out and able to slot past the keeper in the 87th minute for a 3-2 win over Athletico Madrid.

Mikael Schøler kicked off what was to an action packed penultimate lap, he played for Schalke as they beat Kaiserslautern 1-2. Quick Nick was on the score sheet again for Werder Bremen in a 2-0 win while Michael Schumacher took part in a 3-1 loss. In Spain Fuzzy Lightning came on for the last 5 minutes in a 2-0 win over Valencia. All eyes then turned to Serie A where there was a league debut for Brendan Petersen, he was partnered up front by Ibrahimovic and it took only 23 minutes for the partnership to come good when Zlatan’s through ball allowed Petersen to tuck away his first ever Inter goal to level things up at 1-1. Ibrahimovic scored a second for Inter to put them 2-1 ahead before turning provider for Petersen again as another through ball gave the Aussie time for a clever near post finish, Brendan picked up man of the match in an eventual 4-2 win over Catania. It was Scottish League Cup time and Haowan took the opportunity to grab his 5th goal of the season late in the second half as Rangers won 2-4, Padraig O’Halloran left it even later as he waited until the 88th minute before heading in Celtic’s 4th as they progressed 0-4. The English League Cup was also back and Ontoth Eleftside played in a 2-0 win over Newcastle after extra time, a game that Ant FM08 will not have been proud to have played in. Jack Smithston and Alex Rodgers played for Fulham as they managed a 3-3 draw with Blackburn after extra time, the game went to penalties and despite substitute Mat Frith converting his spot kick Fulham went out. Goals seemed to be lacking and that trend continued when Nicky captained Leeds to a 2-1 defeat by Everton, finally the goal drought was broken by former drivers champion Loic Flamilson as his 53rd minute header put his side level with Liverpool, a very close finish which included 2 goals in injury time saw Villa progress 3-2. Andrew Billen will be desperate for a second race win and he helped his cause with a goal after less then 2 minutes, he rounded the keeper before passing into the empty net. Hull extended their lead with a double from Vaz Te and with Billen getting an assist but at the end of 90 minutes it was 3-3. With 10 minutes of extra time played a cross was floated into the area and Andrew Billen produced a quality volley from 12 yards to put his side through 2-4. Finally we looked to his team mate Mark Cator who was also in sensational form for Southampton, Cator opened the scoring after 25 minutes when his shot from 8 yards deflected past the keeper and then doubled his tally on the stroke of half time with an effort too powerful for the keeper to hold and they went in at half time 3-1 to the good against Cardiff. Six minutes from time a corner wasn’t cleared properly and as the ball was crossed at the second attempt Mark Cator rose highest and nodded in his hat-trick to put his side through with a 5-2 win and earn himself not only man of the match but a very strong position to win the race as he joins Billen and Smithston at the front.

We headed into the last lap of the race with Jack Smithston and Andrew Billen level on points and both men playing on the Saturday. Mark Cator had played one game fewer but scored just as many goal, he played on the Sunday.

So we started with the joint race leader Jack Smithston who played alongside Alex Rodgers in a 2-0 loss to Everton, no goals for Smithston and a chance for the other 2 drivers. Loic Flamilson played as Liverpool avenged their League Cup defeat against Aston Villa and the Frenchman was on the wrong end of a 1-2 scoreline. Ant FM08 played for Newcastle in a 1-3 win over Preston. Michael Schumacher played as Mainz lost 4-0, Quick Nick played in a 1-0 win and Mikael Schøler’s powerful header found the far corner and beat the keeper to give his team a 1-0 win. Fuzzy Lightning led the line for Barcelona all on his own for 74 minutes of the game before being subbed off as they lost 1-0 to Betis. Padraig O’Halloran came of the bench for Celtic to grab a brace in a 4-0 win over Aberdeen, his second goal was particularly good as he hooked the ball from behind him into the top corner. The there was a bit of a surprise to be had, maybe not in the score line as Dunfermline lost 2-4 to Rangers, maybe not even a surprise that Haowan was on the score sheet. But as the ball was played through and he looked offside he kept his head and although the keeper almost saved his shot it somehow made it across the line, what was surprising was that all of a sudden Haowan was the race leader, he’d been going about his business unnoticed until now and going into the weekend had scored one less than Billen and Smithston but with his goal he drew level and his amount of games played was slightly higher. In the Championship a blocked shot fell to Nicky 19 yards out and he wasted no time in blasting it into the top corner to assure Leeds of the 3 points in a 2-0 win over Burnley as they sit 2nd in the table and continue their battle with Hull for promotion, Andrew Billen played for the league leaders as they won 2-0 but Billen was not amongst the scorers, Haowan looked to be taking the win. On Sunday Brendan Petersen couldn’t follow up his sparkling Serie A debut, he played in a 1-1 draw away at Juventus. Then it was to the Premiership and in the first game a 26th minute chip from Lewis Hamilton put Reading 0-2 up against Man City which was how it ended. All eyes were really on the match between Spurs and Saints with all the pressure on Mark Cator to try and take the race win. Cator was subbed off the pitch with 79 minutes played and 2 goals had been scored, unfortunately neither of them came from Cator or even Southampton as the game ended 2-0 to Tottenham.

Driver of the Day - Who else could it be but Haowan? Wasn’t even considered a candidate for the race win until the final weekend as he quietly went about his business and snuck in at the last moment for his first ever race win. Two races in and Bob Mcbob hasn't made a particularly good start to the season, will this season see an end to his dominance? Mark Webber injured and yet to score a point, will it be the end of the Webber/Mcbob dominance?

* I have player profiles from 1st September for all of the players but seeing as only 6 or 7 people post regularly in this thread I honestly can't be bothered uploading and linking 24 screenshots if not even 10 people are looking at them. If you want to see your players profile just ask and I'll happily upload it. Thanks to those people who are still following this sign-up, I hope to finish this season before the release of FM09 and that should bring it to a satisfactory close.

Good to see Brendan getting some gametime at Inter and what a debut - 2 goals and a MoM! Hopefully I can play a bit more consistently and get my first points of the season.

Can I see Brendan Petersen's profile?

Thanks in advance and KUTGW.

Brendan looks great and hopefully his debut league game will have seen him move out of the reserve side.

Great international goal-scoring ratio and hopefully I can keep that up and maybe even link up with Webber for the national team.

Race 3 - October

Ontoth Eleftside rarely grabs the headlines but he grabbed the lead of this race in the early stages as a free kick was floated into the box and Eleftside headed in the opener for a 2-0 win over Oldham. Fuzzy Lightning kicked off the champions league action as he came off the bench in a 2-2 draw away at AEK. Things picked up in the game at Celtic Park with 3 drivers involved, Padraig O’Halloran headed Celtic into the lead after 24 minutes for his 50th Celtic goal and he scored another header just minutes before half time to level things up at 2-2. Bob Mcbob and Ant FM08 also played as Newcastle left with a 2-3 win. Mikael Schøler rounded off the Tuesday action when he was given far more time and space than he needed by a poor back pass and he made it 1-0 after 18 minutes. Four minutes later Schøler headed in to double the lead over CSKA and in first half injury time a good pass picked out the Dane’s good run and he slotted past the keeper for his hat-trick, Schalke went onto win 5-0. On Wednesday only Haowan played as Rangers coasted to a 2-0 win over Panathinaikos. On Thursday night it was Quick Nick who provided the spark for Werder Bremen, two goals from the youngster helped his side to a 4-1 win which saw them progress to the next round of the Uefa cup 7-1 on aggregate.

Mikael Schøler picked up his good form on Saturday with a goal after 11 minutes to level the game up at 1-1 which was how it ended against Bayern Munich. In the English Premier League Loic Flamilson played as Aston Villa lost 2-1 to Middlesbrough , Mark Cator played for the Southampton side that managed a shock 2-1 win over Chelsea. Speaking of shocks, Mat Frith headed in his first goal of the season before going onto double his tally with a good effort from 18 yards in a 4-1 win over Blackburn that also involved Jack Smithson. Andrew Billen played for Hull as they remained top of the Championship following a 1-1 draw, Nicky managed a consolation goal for Leeds as his close range effort deflected in as they lost 5-1 to QPR. Ontoth Eleftside also grabbed a consolation goal, he scored with a low drive as Watford lost 6-1. We kicked off Sunday with a goal from Lewis Hamilton, 18 minutes into Reading’s game against Liverpool. The Englishman was a little lucky not to be called offside but there was nothing lucky about the finish as he chipped the keeper from all of 30 yards, Reading went on to claim a 3-1 win. Ant FM08 came off the bench to grab a goal for Newcastle that earned them a 2-2 draw with Man City. Michael Schumacher and Quick Nick both played in a 2-0 win and a 1-1 draw respectively. Then it was off to Scotland where James Knowles made his return to the Aberdeen side in a 2-0 win over Hibs and then there was an old firm derby to entertain us all. Haowan got in behind the defence and finished well after 7 minutes to put Rangers 1-0 up before Padraig O’Halloran curled in a powerful effort from 25 yards for a spectacular goal. Rangers took the lead four minutes later only for O’Halloran to equalise again before the half hour mark as he took his effort first time following a good pass from Bob Mcbob, Rangers eventually ran out 3-2 winners but O’Halloran joined Mikael Schøler as joint race leaders.

The SPL boys were back in action on Wednesday and it was a similar pattern to the weekend as far as the scorers were concerned. First a good finish from Haowan made it 2-0 to Rangers in a win over Inverness CT before Padraig O’Halloran came on as a sub for Celtic to score an 82nd minute goal to give Celtic a 0-2 win, again the assist came from Bob Mcbob. James Knowles played the last 5 minutes for Aberdeen as they also triumphed 2-0. The only other games that day came from Italy and Brendan Petersen started for Inter as they faced Cagliari, it may have taken 67 minutes but the Australian finally made his mark on the game as a good touch gave him enough space to slot past the keeper to make it 4-0, a good job it was too as he was substituted just a minute later.

Michael Schumacher kicked off the action on Friday evening as he scored just 2 minutes into Mainz’s 1-1 draw at Hannover. The weekend officially started rather dully with former champion James Knowles playing in a 2-2 draw with Inverness CT, Padraig O’Halloran failed to liven things up as he played in a 2-0 win for Celtic and Haowan also failed to find the net in a 0-1 win over Motherwell. Things were no more exciting in Italy where Brendan Petersen played in a 2-0 win for Inter, nor in the Championship when Nicky played in a 2-1 win over Colchester. Ontoth Eleftside managed a goal though and it turned out to be the winner in a 1-2 win for Watford. Mikael Schøler’s near post flick on gave Schalke a 1-0 lead over Dortmund and it looked to have been enough until an equaliser arrived 12 minutes from time. Then in the English Premiership, Ant FM08 played in a 0-2 win over Loic Flamilson and Aston Villa while Mark Cator and Gold Member both featured in 1-0 and 4-0 losses respectively. The story of the day though came from White Hart Lane as Spurs hosted Man Utd, the home side were already 1-0 to the good when Patrice Evra was sent off 30 minutes from the end and although it took a while Tottenham finally made the most of it 4 minutes from time when Mark Webber headed in to secure the 3 points on his return to the side. On Sunday Mat Frith, Alex Rodgers and Jack Smithston all played some part in a 2-1 loss to Preston, Smithston played the biggest role though with a stunning strike from 20 yards which flew into the top corner. Lewis Hamilton headed in his second goal of the month from about a yard out as he helped Reading on their way to a 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

Nicky got the mid week action up and running as he robbed a defender of possession before fooling the keeper and slotting home to put his side 0-1 up, unfortunately Barnsley fought back and the game ended 1-1. In the Champions League Mikael Schøler played in a 2-0 loss to Roma while Ant FM08 played in a 1-1 draw with Benfica. The Celtic drivers were left to brighten up the day and they didn’t disappoint, Padraig O’Halloran increased his lead at the front of the race when he scored a tap in after 8 minutes. Bob Mcbob definitely scored goal of the day though as he picked up the ball just inside the opposition half before running past three players and drilling in a wonderful effort from 25 yards. On Wednesday Haowan faced off against Brendan Petersen as Rangers welcomed Inter to Ibrox, it was Petersen who opened the scoring less than ten minutes into the second half as he flicked on a long throw and somehow managed to beat the keeper to put his side ahead. The Australian then popped up with an assist as Inter doubled their lead to take the 3 points and Petersen grabbed man of the match. Thursday night provided James Knowles with the chance to shine and he did his best not to disappoint, a fantastic bit of control saw him bring down a ball over the top and he deserved the bit of luck that saw his shot deflect past the keeper in a 2-1 loss to Monaco.

Saturday saw somewhat of a goal drought in the English Premier League, Ant FM08 played as Newcastle won 1-0 and Lewis Hamilton played but didn’t score in a 1-0 loss to Southampton. Padraig O’ Halloran also failed to find the net in a 2-0 win for Celtic. Ontoth Eleftside was another man who couldn’t score as he played in a 2-0 loss to Notts County. We desperately needed a goal and it finally came from the most unlikely of places, twelve minutes into their match against Chaves, Marky Mark found the ball at his feet and six yards from goal. The Australian may not be able to remember the last time he scored but he hasn’t yet forgotten how to, he smashed the ball into the back of the net and helped Benfica to a 0-2 win. Andrew Billen returned to the Hull side and reformed his partnership with Ricardo Vaz Te but it was Billen’s partnership with the Swansea right back that came good as the defender put his side in trouble with a terrible back pass which gave Billen an easy finish for Hull’s second in a 3-1 win. Nicky did his bit to keep Leeds in touch with Hull at the top of the table as his powerful effort from just outside the area took a big deflection past the keeper but still helped Leeds to a 2-0 win. The final game on Saturday took us to Germany and potential race winner Mikael Schøler was once again on the score sheet, he held his run just long enough to stay onside and managed to round the goalie before levelling the score in a game that ended 2-2. On Sunday Haowan played for Rangers in a 1-1 draw away from home, Brendan Petersen continued in the Inter side although he failed to score in a 1-3 victory. Loic Flamilson also failed to find the net as he played in Aston Villa’s 3-3 draw at Arsenal. Mark Webber continued his dream return to the Tottenham side with his second goal in as many games, this time with a fairly simple finish from 6 yards to tie things up at 1-1 but Spurs eventually lost 2-1 to Birmingham. Mat Frith found his way onto the score sheet for the third time this month as he scored from just inside the area to level things up with Portsmouth, Jack Smithston curled a low effort past the keeper from 25 yards and his effort found the bottom corner to level things up again at 2-2. Portsmouth took the lead again but there was more drama to come as with 30 seconds of injury time played in the second half Mat Frith was given way too much time and he finished well despite looking offside to earn his side a point, Alex Rodgers also played.

Going into the final lap and we have Padraig O’Halloran and Mikael Schøler fighting it out for the race win, the Irishman had a very slight lead having played a single game more but having scored the same amount of goals as the Dane. A few goals from Mat Frith could see him challenge for the 1st place finish but otherwise it looked like a straight shoot out between O’Halloran and Schøler.

So on Tuesday Mikael Schøler tied things up at the front as he played but failed to find the net in a 1-2 win over Leverkusen in the German Cup. Quick Nick grabbed Werder Bremen’s final goal in a 3-1 win in the same competition. A good performance from Nicky could well see him grab a podium and he managed exactly that, a volley from 8 yards out saw him double his sides lead just before half time and the Leeds captain doubled his tally in the second half to give his side a 1-3 victory. On Wednesday Loic Flamilson and Ontoth Eleftside both played in the English League Cup and they both went out in losses to Man Utd and Wolves respectively. Brendan Petersen might well have made his mark on the Inter side in the last month and he continued to do so as he managed a wonderful strike from 18 yards which found the bottom corner and doubled his sides lead in an eventual 3-0 win over Palermo. Finally we turned to the Scottish League Cup and Aberdeen welcomed Rangers, James Knowles put the icing on the Aberdeen cake in first half injury time as his strike from 18 yards made it 3-0 to Aberdeen which was how it finished. So we turned to the most important match of the day as Hibs welcomed Celtic, Padraig O’Halloran only needed to play in order to win the race. Bob Mcbob was the man in form though and he curled in a low, hard drive into the bottom corner from just inside the box to make it 1-3 and just before half time he was played in and rounded the keeper to grab his second of the match and make it 2-4 which was how it finished. The question that needed answering though was whether or not O’Halloran played, he didn’t start the game but with 10 minutes remaining Gordon Strachan threw on the Irishman and although he had no real affect on the game it was enough to claim the race win.

Driver of the Day - A tough decision this race with Padraig O’Halloran and Mikael Schøler having a good battle for the race win as well as all those players finishing 4th. In the end though you can’t look past the two at the front with O’Halloran taking the win but having played a game more than Schøler so they can share it.
