Race 4 - November

The race began in the English Premier League with former drivers champion Loic Flamilson playing in a 0-2 loss to Man Utd, Ant FM08 featured as a sub in a 2-1 loss to Man City. There was a hint of offside when Lewis Hamilton picked up the ball 7 yards from goal and blasted across the keeper to put Reading a goal up but nonetheless the young Englishman took the race lead following a 2-0 win. Mark Webber, Jack Smithston, Mat Frith and Alex Rodgers all played in a 2-0 win for Tottenham over Fulham. In the Championship Nicky captained Leeds to a 2-1 win despite him not scoring but Andrew Billen pounced on a terrible clearance from the goalkeeper to find the back of an empty net to put Hull 0-1 to the good as they also won 1-2. Ontoth Eleftside played in a 1-2 loss for Watford and Moony grabbed a brace in a 3-1 win for Blackpool. Mikael Schøler played for Schalke as they won 3-0 and Michael Schumacher just about scored the 3rd of four in a 1-4 win for Mainz. Bob Mcbob and Padraig O’Halloran both failed to score as Celtic recorded a 1-3 win, Rangers managed some revenge on Aberdeen for the League Cup defeat midweek as Rangers came out 2-1 winners, James Knowles got one over on Haowan though as the former drivers champion took advantage of some poor defending to knock in the consolation goal. In Italy Brendan Petersen was presented with a golden opportunity after just 3 minutes and he didn’t waste it as he slid past the keeper to put his side into the lead and they went onto beat Lazio 1-2. Sunday saw very little action for the drivers, Marky Mark came off the bench in a 3-0 victory and Fuzzy Lightning did likewise in a 2-1 loss.

Tuesday was a day of almost as little action as Sunday, Brendan Petersen and Haowan faced off in the Champions League in a game that Inter won 3-0, meanwhile Moony scored again in a win for Blackpool. Luckily Wednesday made up for that, first off Mikael Schøler picked up a booking in a 0-1 loss to Roma. Fuzzy Lightning came off the bench and found the net for Barcelona as his low curling effort made it a 5-0 win over AZ. A poor defensive header allowed Ant FM08 to score a dramatic equaliser for ten man Newcastle 4 minutes from time as they drew 1-1 in Benfica. Padraig O’Halloran scored a header which went in off the bar to put Celtic 2-0 up, Besiktas fought back strongly though and took the lead in the 90th minute. Four added minutes gave Celtic time to equalise and they eventually did so in the 93rd minute as Bob Mcbob latched onto a good pass and finished well to earn the defending champions a point. Andrew Billen finished at the second time of asking with 6 minutes left on the clock to make it a 1-3 win over Burnley. On Thursday Quick Nick played in a 2-1 Uefa Cup win for Werder Bremen, James Knowles went one better and scored for Aberdeen as a deflected shot fell right into his path and he smashed home the first in a 2-2 draw with Sporting CP.

We started Saturday with the only game to be played in Scotland and last months race winner Padraig O’Halloran grabbed himself a quality brace in the first half, his first goal came after he poked the ball through a defenders legs and smashed the ball in at the near post, his second was a clever volley as the ball came in from a corner. The Irishman’s efforts were wasted though as Hibs ran out 4-2 winners from a game that also involved Bob Mcbob. Next to the only game that involved our drivers in Germany as Mainz welcomed Schalke, a good ball in behind the home sides defence put Mikael Schøler clean through on goal and he opened the scoring in the 11th minute, Michael Schumacher came off the bench but it was too late for Mainz as they lost 1-2. Then to the English Premiership and Mark Cator played for Southampton as they drew 2-2 at the Riverside, Jack Smithston rescued a point for Fulham as a good first time finish from just inside the box found the back of the net to earn a 1-1 draw with Man City, Mat Frith also played. Seven minutes into Tottenham’s trip to Goodison Park Mark Webber placed an effort into the bottom corner to put Spurs 0-1 to the good and the Australian doubled his tally in the 90th minute when he flicked on at the near post from a corner to make it a 1-3 win. Sunday started on a sour note for Marky Mark as he was involved in a high speed crash just 10 minutes into Benfica’s 3-3 draw which saw the Aussie out for up to 2 months with a rib injury. In the SPL James Knowles set Aberdeen on their way as he turned well and scored after 6 minutes in a 4-2 win over Hearts, Haowan’s first half goal saw Rangers go in at half time drawing 1-1 with Falkirk, his second half goal was both stunning and important as it flew in from 30 yards and won his side the game. Gold Member came off the bench to grab a goal for Birmingham as they managed a 2-1 win over arch rivals Aston Villa and former drivers champion Loic Flamilson. Lewis Hamilton came up with a smart finish at the near post just 34 seconds into Readings match away at Newcastle to put his side 0-1 up, Hamilton doubled his personal tally after 32 minutes when he was given far too much room 6 yards from goal and he gave the keeper no chance, his goal made it 0-4. Ant FM08 was subbed off at half time and although Newcastle were better the game ended 2-4.

After an International break the drivers returned to action on Saturday, starting with Fuzzy Lightning as he played in a 1-1 draw at Espanyol, Mikael Schøler played for Schalke as they drew 1-1 against Rostock. Loic Flamilson, Jack Smithston, Mat Frith and Alex Rodgers all played some part in Aston Villa’s 2-0 win over Fulham although none of them scored, Mark Cator played in a 0-1 loss to Newcastle. Gold Member’s deflected effort after 80 minutes found the back of the net against Chelsea but it was little too late as the game ended 5-2. Lewis Hamilton scored a diving header for Reading, also in the 80th minute which gave his side a chance but they couldn’t complete the comeback in a 1-2 loss to Arsenal. Ontoth Eleftside played for Watford as they won 1-0 and Nicky played for Leeds in a 0-0 draw. Performance of the day undoubtedly came from Andrew Billen, he opened the scoring in bizarre fashion after 15 minutes when his long range header somehow beat the keeper and found the bottom corner. His second goal also came from a header although this time it was Vaz Te heading over the keeper and Billen sliding in to claim his and Hull’s second. Vaz Te scored shortly after to put Hull 3-0 up and then with 33 minutes played Andrew Billen curled a free kick from all of 35 yards round the wall and into the top corner for his hat-trick, Charlton never recovered from the first half massacre and the game ended 4-0 but more importantly for Billen it put him up into second place, just behind Lewis Hamilton. Sunday might as well have seen no action, Michael Schumacher played in a loss for Mainz while Brendan Petersen played an hour of Inters 3-1 win over Genoa.

We headed into the last lap and the advantage lay with Lewis Hamitlon, Andrew Billen seemed to have the best chance of wrestling the points away from him as well as Padraig O’Halloran and James Knowles being in the picture for a podium finish. The outcome of the race was out of Hamilton’s hands as it would be mid week games that would be the deciders, Champions League, Uefa Cup and Championship games were to be played.

So our first port of call came on Tuesday and in the Champions League with Fuzzy Lightning playing for Barcelona as they were thrashed 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. Then Mikael Schøler ruined any plans he might have had about race wins as he failed to score and picked up a yellow card in a 1-2 loss to Real Madrid. Ant FM08 scored a powerful header as he kick started a Newcastle comeback which saw them beat Besiktas 1-2. Then it was off to Celtic Park where Benfica were the guests, 38 minutes in Bob Mcbob robbed a defender of possession and floated in a cross, Padraig O’Halloran threw himself at the ball and his bullet like header put Celtic into the lead. The Irishman’s sole goal was enough to win his team the game but crucially it put him into the race lead by virtue of having played a single game more than Lewis Hamilton. Andrew Billen had his chance on Wednesday evening with a trip to Bristol City, unfortunately he didn’t score which added to a disappointing night for Hull as they lost 1-0. Leeds wasted no time in taking advantage and when Nicky curled in a beauty from 20 yards it was to make it 2-0 which was how it finished and Leeds moved to within 3 points of the league leaders. In the Champions League Haowan looked at least a yard offside as the ball found him inside the Man Utd penalty area however the decision didn’t come and Haowan slotted in to give Rangers some hope although they lost 1-2 in the end. In the same group Brendan Petersen rose high to nod home a cross from deep after 20 minutes and it was enough to secure Inter the 3 points and saw both Inter and Man Utd qualify for the next stage. And so the final game of the race came on Thursday and the opportunity fell to James Knowles, all he had to do was score twice to win the race. The former drivers champion would face a tough test though as Aberdeen travelled to Hertha BSC, ten minutes into the game a poor backpass arrived at the feet of Knowles and he skinned a defender before finishing well, putting Aberdeen in the lead and himself dead level with Padraig O’Halloran. Aberdeen went in at half time 1-2 up and with 45 minutes left to play the James Knowles’ fans had to believe he was capable of another goal but at full time the score stood at 2-2 which meant Knowles would indeed be getting 10 points but he’d be sharing the race win.

Driver of the Day - Padraig O’Halloran was unfortunate to have had to share last months dotd but he’s going to have to do so again this month, with the sharing of the 10 points both he and James Knowles picked up their 5th career victories. Lewis Hamilton also deserves a mention as does Andrew Billen who both could’ve won the race if they’d played a game more.

Race 5 - December

For the start of the race we looked to Scotland and winner of the last two races Padraig O’Halloran to get off to a bright start, unfortunately the Irishman only featured from the bench. But his fellow Celtic driver Bob Mcbob got his name on the score sheet after 20 minutes for the opening goal in a 3-0 win. Fuzzy Lightning also played from the bench, he came on in a 2-2 draw with Sevilla, Michael Schumacher’s diving header put Mainz 1-0 and up sent them on their way to a 4-0 win while Quick Nick’s goal for Werder Bremen earned them a 2-2 draw. In England Mark Cator and Lewis Hamilton both played in losing efforts for their sides while Mark Webber played for Tottenham in a 0-3 win. Mat Frith grabbed a goal from 6 yards against Chelsea to make up for his booking, the goal was no more than consolation in a 1-4 loss that also featured Jack Smithston. Andrew Billen played in a 1-0 win for Hull and Nicky latched onto a long ball before finishing well to score Leeds’ only goal in a 3-1 loss to Leicester which saw Leeds slip to 3rd in the table. Ontoth Eleftside played for Watford as they crashed out of the FA Cup 4-0 at Rotherham. Sunday saw Loic Flamilson play in a 2-0 loss to former club Everton, Brendan Petersen played for Inter as they lost 4-0 to arch rivals AC and lost out on top spot to the same team. James Knowles played for Aberdeen as they drew 3-3 with Falkirk and Haowan’s near post header put Rangers 0-1 up, they went onto claim a 2-3 win over Kilmarnock. Schalke by and large had one Mikael Schøler to thank for their 2-3 win over Hertha BSC, the Dane found the top corner from just inside the box early in the first half to put his side 0-1 up and then found the top corner again, this time from outside the box to put his side 1-2 up with 84 minutes played. His hat-trick didn’t materialise but his side still won, Schøler got man of the match and took the race lead.

Many people fancied Mark Cator to make a charge for the title this year after pushing Bob Mcbob right until the very last race in the previous season. So far though Cator has failed to impress in the Premier League, on Tuesday evening Southampton faced Premier League opposition in the from of Arsenal in the League Cup. Possibly a chance to shine for Cator but it was very much more of what we’ve seen so far, he failed to score as Southampton lost 5-0. In the Championship Nicky played for Leeds as a 3-3 draw saw them slip further down the table, Andrew Billen’s powerful finish after 14 minutes looked to have been enough to win Hull the game until a 90th minute equaliser arrived, still a 1-1 draw was more than enough to keep them sitting in top spot. Ontoth Eleftside played for Watford as they lost 2-1 in League 1. On Wednesday Fuzzy Lightning came off the bench for Barcelona as they recorded a 3-4 victory over Murcia. There was also a lone Champions League game to be played as Celtic took on Newcastle, Celtic really needed a win to have any chance of continuing in the defence of their title. At half time it was 3-1 to Newcastle and things were not looking good but a cool finish into the bottom corner from Padraig O’Halloran gave them a way back into the game and they managed to clinch a 3-3 draw, Bob Mcbob also played but the result was not the one they wanted, they now had to rely on Besiktas beating Benfica if they wanted to go through. On Thursday James Knowles ran unchallenged from inside his own half, rounded the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net to put Aberdeen 2-1 up in the Uefa Cup, his side went on to win 3-1 and sit second in their group with 5 points and having played all their games, qualification is out of their hands.

The weekend began with Mikael Schøler issuing a challenge to the chasing pack as he set the fastest lap of the race to increase his lead, the Dane flicked on a corner at the near post in the 93rd minute to give his side a 3-0 win against Hannover. The drivers in Scotland failed to answer the challenge as Bob Mcbob and Padraig O’Halloran failed to score in a 0-2 win, Haowan couldn’t find the net either in a 1-1 draw. Mark Webber may have been trying a little too hard to catch Mikael Schøler as a big crash saw the Aussie pick up yet another injury, this time a broken arm keeping him out for a month, Tottenham managed without him and secured a 2-0 win to take top spot in the EPL. Loic Flamilson played as Aston Villa beat Blackburn 2-0. Andrew Billen came off the bench for Hull in a 0-1 loss to Millwall which allowed the chasing teams to close in, one of those teams was Leeds and Nicky scored a goal almost identical to Mikael Schøler’s as he flicked on a corner at the near post to give Leeds’ a 1-0 win and boosted them back up to 3rd in the table and Nicky took 2nd place in the race. Ontoth Eleftside was also on the score sheet, he scored from just outside the box in a 3-0 win for Watford. Sunday saw a rare goal for Fuzzy Lightning as he fired into the bottom corner from 6 yards to complete a 4-0 win for Barcelona. James Knowles threw away his chance to pick up a race win last month but he seems keen to make up for that error, his powerful effort from 18 yards beat the keeper in a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock and put Knowles joint second in the race. Quick Nick and Michael Schumacher both played in a 0-0 draw between their sides. Then to the final game of the weekend in England between Southampton and Fulham, Mark Cator ran with the ball for the best part of 30 yards before firing low and hard into the far corner to put his side 2-0 up with 14 minutes played. Mat Frith was substituted in the second half and Alex Rodgers came on in his place, Rodgers would go on to set up a simple tap in for Jack Smithston with 4 minutes remaining to make the score 2-1 but that was all Fulham could manage. Finally in the Portuguese Cup Marky Mark made a mark on his return from injury, a header and a powerful drive from 18 yards gave the young Australian a much needed confidence boost and put him in a good position in the race.

On Tuesday evening Brendan Petersen played in a 2-0 loss to Man Utd which saw the English club take top spot in the group, Haowan played for Rangers as a 0-0 draw with Panathanaikos was enough to see them take 3rd place and a Uefa Cup spot from the same group. Andrew Billen played once again for Hull as they secured a 0-2 win, Nicky put in a real captains performance for Leeds as the fan favourite grabbed first a near post header and then a powerful low drive to take the race lead and drive Leeds back into second place in the league. The Champions League game between Benfica and Besiktas took place on Wednesday and a 4-0 win for the Portuguese team saw Celtic, like Rangers, condemned to Uefa Cup football. Schalke were also fighting for a Uefa Cup place as Roma and Real Madrid had already qualified from their group, Mikael Schøler burst through the defence and slotted past the keeper after 43 minutes which was enough to secure a 0-1 win and a Uefa Cup place as well as tying the Dane up with Nicky out in front. Celtic meanwhile were off participating in the club world championships, a terrible mistake by the goalkeeper gave Bob Mcbob an easy finish to put his side 0-2 up and Padraig O’Halloran also played in a 1-2 win over Salt Lake.

Michael Schumacher played for Mainz on Friday night and he gave his side the lead just past the half hour mark as he finished from an acute angle, the game ended a 1-1 draw at Koln. The early signs in this race suggested that it was going to be a fight between Mikael Schøler and Nicky for the win however after the Saturday’s action that was all about to change. Mikael Schøler started the day off with a near post flick on in first half injury time to give his side a 1-0 lead at the break and then a long throw found the Dane unmarked inside the 6 yard box and he finished well for his second and Schalke’s 4th in a 4-0 win over HSV. With two goals under his belt Schøler would’ve been pretty confident of holding onto his lead for now. His nearest competition Nicky played for Leeds in a 0-0 draw giving Schøler plenty of breathing space. Hull went in at half time 2-1 down to Wigan but Andrew Billen inspired the away side to a second half comeback, Billen started and finished the goal that got his side back on level terms before heading in the winner. Mat Frith grabbed an 89th minute consolation goal for Fulham in a 2-1 loss to Liverpool with Jack Smithston and Alex Rodgers also playing. Loic Flamilson did well as he quickly shifted ball from left foot to right foot before finishing well and giving Aston Villa a 1-0 lead over Derby, that game finished 1-1. Ontoth Eleftside and Moony both grabbed a goal as their sides faced each other, Blackpool claimed a 4-1 victory. It’s safe to say since his move to Benfica Marky Mark has been far from prolific however he scored twice in his return to action a few weeks ago and was in even better form on his return to league action. In fact it took him just 27 seconds to open the scoring for Benfica as he ran in behind the defence and finished well. With 35 minutes played Marky made it 3-0 as a long range shot was only parried by the keeper with Mark putting away the rebound for his 5th goal of the season. It looked like being a comfortable 1-3 win for Benfica but in the last minute of the game Mark robbed a defender inside the 6 yard box and blasted the ball into the roof of the net for his hat-trick and put himself right into the picture at the front of the race. It’s a rare occasion in FMGP when Marky Mark outshines his team mate James Knowles and that wasn’t going to be the case this weekend either. The youngster put his side 0-2 up after 14 minutes when a long ball dropped over his shoulder and he volleyed into the top corner, another long ball was knocked down into the path of Knowles and he wrong footed the keeper and found the bottom corner for goal number two after 27 minutes. Just a minute later a poor defensive header fell to Knowles and he wasted no time in curling into the top corner from 25 yards for his hat-trick. With 90 minutes played St Mirren were pushing for a consolation goal and James Knowles was left unmarked, a corner was cleared to the youngster and he ran half the length of the pitch and rolled the ball past the keeper from the edge of the area for 0-5, undoubtedly man of the match and the new race leader. With such a goal filled Saturday it was probably to be expected that Sunday would be lacking in goals however out of the 3 drivers that played only Fuzzy Lightning failed to score as he came off the bench in a 1-1 draw. Lewis Hamilton headed in from less than a yard to give Reading a 1-0 lead at half time and the young Englishman restored his sides one goal advantage in the second half as he rounded the keeper before finding the empty net, his efforts were wasted though as the game ended as a 2-2 draw with Birmingham. Celtic may be out of the Champions League but they had the World Club Championship won before half time, a powerful finish from 8 yards saw Bob Mcbob give his side the lead and his looping header made it 3-0 with 5 minutes to go until half time, no goals in the second half meant Celtic claimed a win over Cruzeiro and the trophy.

The only midweek action saw Brendan Petersen take part in a 3-1 win for Inter in the Italian Cup and Mark Cator playing in a 1-2 loss to Man Utd.

Saturday saw only our drivers in Scotland involved in any game time, Haowan slid in at the near post to flick a low cross into the far corner with ten minutes left as Rangers ran out 4-0 winners over Hibernian. With the winter break now taking affect in Germany Mikael Schøler has done all he can to earn points this race, unfortunately for him it doesn’t look like it’s going to be enough. James Knowles took advantage of the situation just 15 minutes into Aberdeen’s game against Dundee Utd, the young Scot’s free kick took a massive deflection off the wall and completely wrong footed the keeper, Knowles’ fortunate goal was enough to earn his side a 1-0 win and extended his lead. On Sunday a 5 minute double from Padraig O’Halloran saved Celtic from defeat, his first goal was a well placed effort from the edge of the box which found the bottom corner, the assist came from Bob Mcbob. His second goal was even better as again Mcbob was the supplier and O’Halloran found exactly the same corner just from 25 yards this time, it was his 20th of the season and put Celtic 1-2 up against Hearts and they went on to win 1-3. Marky Mark continued his remarkable return to the Benfica side, with just 7 minutes played a nice one-two put Mark clean through and his emphatic finish into the roof of the net was enough to win his side the game 1-0.

With the rest of the drivers on a Christmas break the final two games of the year would be contested by the drivers from Scotland and England. First to Scotland where there was a huge boxing day clash between Celtic and Rangers, for all the build up though it was quite a disappointment as Bob Mcbob, Padraig O’Halloran and Haowan all played but failed to score in a 1-0 win for Celtic. In the last month James Knowles has found the sort of form that won him the drivers championship, he continued his scoring as a deflection feel kindly for him and he slotted past the stranded goalkeeper to level things up at 1-1, it wasn’t to be a happy Christmas for Aberdeen though as they lost 3-1 to Hibs. Andrew Billen and Nicky both played in a game between their sides, neither scored in the 1-1 draw, Ontoth Eleftside played in a 1-0 win for Watford. Mark Cator and Gold Member both played as their sides drew 0-0 at St Andrews, Mat Frith and Jack Smithston both grabbed a goal for Fulham but it wasn’t enough as they lost 2-3 to Lewis Hamilton and Reading. Loic Flamilson put in performance of the day though as a goal either side of half time helped Aston Villa to a 0-3 win over West Ham.

Haowan started the final lap of the race with a goal for Rangers, his first time effort as they ball was played through to him secured Rangers a 2-0 win. Loic Flamilson and Ant FM08 were both involved in 2-0 wins for their sides, Mark Cator played in a 0-1 loss to Everton and Mat Fith and Jack Smithston played in a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, Smithston chipped the ball over the keeper’s outstretched arm for the opening goal of the game. Lewis Hamilton’s looping header found the back of the net just after the half hour mark to put his side 2-0 up and he doubled his tally 7 minutes later with a powerful strike across the keeper as Reading smashed 7 past Derby at a snowy Madejski Stadium, just like his real life counterpart a fair amount of luck on the last lap might've been enough to get him some points. A lucky deflection fell straight to the feet of Andrew Billen inside the QPR box, his shot also took a deflection on its way to the net but it still put Hull 0-1 up, 3 minutes after half time Billen was the hero again as he looked to have come back from an offside position to head home his second of the match and win the game for Hull 1-2. Nicky made a wonderful start to the final game of the day, his near post flick on from a corner found the net after just 2 minutes and put his side 1-0 up. Half an hour in Nicky was played through and rounded the keeper to grab his second of the game and his performance was complete after 38 minutes when a long free kick was pumped into the box and Nicky climbed highest to nod in his hat-trick, making a real charge for the race win and driving Leeds to 2nd in the table. The final game of the year took place on Sunday as Aberdeen hosted Celtic and James Knowles wasted no time in responding to Nicky’s hat-trick, just 3 minutes into the game Knowles found himself with all the time in the world just 10 yards from goal and a low drive put Aberdeen ahead. Celtic rallied and the SPL leaders showed why that is the case as they came back to win 1-3 with Bob Mcbob and Padraig O’Halloran both playing.

Driver of the Day - You just can’t look past James Knowles for this one, a very high scoring and exciting race and Knowles came out on top. Nicky made a late push and also deserves a mention as in another race he probably would have won hands down as does Marky Mark who came from nowhere to claim a 4th place finish.

Half way through the season and both championships are still wide open with nobody as yet being able to put in the consistent performances required to win the title. Andrew Billen is currently sitting top of the pile but as for who will win this years championship, well it could be anyone.

Race 6 - January

Reading ended the year with a 7-0 thrashing of Derby and they started this one seemingly on a high from that performance, Lewis Hamilton put his side 0-1 up after 17 minutes as he knocked a rebound into the back of the net. Seven minutes later and Hamilton drove a low effort past the keeper from 18 yards to make it 0-2 and things looked bleak for West Ham. With 2 minutes until half time a good run from Hamilton was rewarded with a good pass to him and he finished first time for his hat-trick and to make it 1-4 going in at the beak, incredibly 3 goals in the second half, all from Reading saw them score 7 goals for the second game in succession. Elsewhere Loic Flamilson and Mark Cator both played in draws for their sides, Jack Smithston headed in from a corner to grab a consolation goal for Fulham 4 minutes from time as Mat Frith and Ant FM08 also played in a 2-4 win for Newcastle. Gold Member was the first casualty of the race as he crashed out in a 0-0 draw with Arsenal and is out for 2 months. Nicky ran from just inside the opposition half before calmly curling a sublime effort into the far corner from 18 yards, giving the keeper no chance and Leeds the lead, in the end though it took a 90th minute equaliser to earn them a point. Hull took the chance to increase their lead at the top of the Championship and Andrew Billen got in on the act, dispossessing a defender inside the box before hammering a powerful effort through the keeper from a tight angle to score the 3rd in Hull’s 4-0 win over Colchester. Ontoth Eleftside threw himself at a cross and connected with a diving header that put his team 1-0 up and earned him his 15th goal of the season, Watford went onto win 4-0.

The following day saw a single game in Scotland as Celtic hosted Motherwell, the away side may have taken a surprise lead but a powerful finish from Padraig O’Halloran saw them go in level at half time. As might have been expected Celtic took the lead in the second half when O’Halloran grabbed his brace as he tucked away a rebound from about a yard, Bob Mcbob also played in an eventual 3-2 win. Fuzzy Lightning got Barcelona off to a perfect start in the second leg of their Spanish Cup tie, the American headed in from close range after just 2 minutes to set his side on their way to a 3-0 win which saw them progress 5-2 on aggregate.

It was FA Cup in England and former drivers champion Loic Flamilson kicked things off as he played in a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest. A corner was only half cleared and after some good control Nicky fired Leeds into a 1-0 lead over Norwich after just 12 minutes the game and they progressed 2-1. Andrew Billen played for Hull as they lost 3-1 to Middlesbrough, Lewis Hamilton played in a 1-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday and Mark Cator managed to not score a single one of 7 goals for Southampton in a 7-1 win over Leyton Orient. A missed header in defence allowed Alex Rodgers the chance to score an equaliser for Fulham and the young striker obliged as he finished emphatically from 6 yards and earned Fulham a 1-1 draw at Wigan, Jack Smithston and Mat Frith also played in the game. Ant FM08 played in a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth. Marky Mark came off the bench for Benfica as they drew 1-1 away at Rio Ave, James Knowles played as Aberdeen drew 0-0 away at Dunfermline. Bob Mcbob produced a moment or two of brilliance in Celtic’s game against Kilmarnock, the first and second came after 22 minutes when he cut back brilliantly inside his defender and curled an unstoppable shot in to the far corner. Mcbob doubled his tally in the second half when he was played through on goal and produced a similar finish to beat the onrushing keeper and finally in the 92nd minute he got a little bit of luck when after about 5 deflections the ball fell to his feet 6 yards out and he smashed past a helpless goalkeeper for his hat-trick and sealed a 4-0 win which also involved Padraig O’Halloran and saw Mcbob draw level with Lewis Hamilton out in front. On Sunday Haowan got Rangers off to a dream start as some good chest control followed by a low drive into the bottom corner after just 2 minutes put Rangers in the lead, but Inverness CT won the game 3-2.

On Wednesday Ontoth Eleftside played in a 2-1 loss for Watford and Arthur White made his Tottenham debut as he came on as a 72nd minute substitute in a 1-0 League Cup victory over Man Utd.

Saturday meant it was Scottish Cup time, Haowan played only 13 minutes for Rangers as he picked up a puncture keeping him out for a week, his side got on fine without him though and progressed 3-0 against Queen of the South. A fantastic run and then a good pass from Karl Sheppard set up James Knowles for a powerful drive from 18 yards which found the back of the net to double Aberdeen’s lead as they progressed 2-0 against Airdrie Utd. Loic Flamilson tackled a defender inside the 6 yard box and slotted into an empty net to claim his 10th goal of the season to put Aston Villa 1-0 up however they ended up losing 1-2 to Tottenham. Mark Cator was maybe a little bit lucky not to be called offside but there was nothing lucky about his finish as his powerful strike went in at the near post to double Southampton’s lead and set them on their way to a 3-1 win over West Ham, the result made it 21 games without a win for the London side. A fantastic pass allowed Jack Smithston to find the back of the net with a well placed effort after 57 minutes to reduce the deficit to 3-1 against Arsenal, then in the 76th minute a long ball over the top once again put the striker in on goal and he did well once again to finish from a tight angle. Unfortunately his goal made it 5-2 which was how it ended with Mat Frith also playing. Andrew Bill and Nicky both played in losses for their sides which saw Leeds slip back into 3rd place. Ontoth Eleftside played in a 0-2 win as Watford make a push for promotion, they took 2nd place in League 1, team mate Moony grabbed a goal for Blackpool in a 2-2 draw as they sit mid table. Marky Mark was back on the score sheet for Benfica on Sunday, a flick on from his strike partner saw the Australian win the race to the ball and thump it into the roof of the net from 8 yards for what turned out to be the winner in a 1-2 victory. Lewis Hamilton had 3 attempts at getting himself a goal against Blackburn, his first shot from 18 yards was parried by the keeper, Hamilton was first to the rebound which was also saved by the keeper but Hamilton eventually slotted in at the third time of asking to make it 3-1 with 10 minutes to go which was how it ended. The goal helped Hamilton regain his lead but he was also aided by a surprise upset in the Scottish Cup, Padraig O’Halloran and Bob Mcbob both played in a shock 1-0 loss for Celtic against Hibernian.

January as ever is a busy month for footballers so another batch of mid week games, Loic Flamilson played in a 1-2 win for Aston Villa while Lewis Hamilton played in a 1-0 loss to Preston. Mark Cator was played in on goal and held his nerve to fire past the oncoming keeper to put Southampton back in the game on the stroke of half time, they went on to lose 2-1 to Blackburn. Jack Smithston grabbed himself a goal on the rebound as Mat Frith’s shot was saved to put Fulham 2-0 up, Alex Rodgers also played in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Wigan, in the same competition Newcastle largely had Ant FM08 for their progression as the youngster smashed 4 goals past Portsmouth, the best of his 4 came after just 10 minutes as his first time effort from 18 yards flew into the top corner to make it 0-1, he had his hat-trick within half an hour and Newcastle won 3-5. Brendan Petersen played for Inter in the Italian Cup as a 1-1 draw at Reggina was enough to see them through on aggregate. A fantastic turn on the edge of the box allowed Bob Mcbob the opportunity to blast past the keeper to make it 0-1 to Celtic after 19 minutes, the goal saw him draw level with Lewis Hamilton and Jack Smithston out in front. A terrible clearance by the St Mirren goalie put them in trouble with 36 minutes played and Mcbob eventually went round him before slotting into an empty net to take the race lead. In the second minute of first half injury time a corner found the head of Mcbob inside the 6 yard box and he had his hat-trick before half time, Padraig O’Halloran also played in the 0-3 win.

Saturday saw the return of Mark Webber to the Tottenham side, his Spurs career has been disturbed by several injuries but nonetheless has been fairly prolific. A terrible pass across goal from the Reading left back was intercepted by the Australian and just 10 minutes into his return match he had a goal, the match ended 1-1 with Lewis Hamilton also playing but it was an important game for Webber as he tries to get back to match fitness and took his scoring record to 6 goals in 8 games for Tottenham. Elsewhere in the EPL Mark Cator played in a 4-1 loss in a south coast derby against Portsmouth and Loic Flamilson played in a 2-3 loss to Chelsea. Nicky played for Leeds as they managed a 1-1 draw with Walsall, Andrew Billen found the back of the net from 25 yards to put Hull 1-0 up early in the second half, 20 minutes later and he was at it again as a shot from almost exactly the same spot flew past the keeper and nearly burst the net, two 25 yard strikes with the second earning him his 25th goal of the season, Hull went onto win 3-1. Ontoth Eleftside scored goal of the day as his stunning strike from 30 yards rocketed into the far corner, he may only be playing in League 1 but no keeper in the world would have got near this strike, it turned out to be a crucial one as well earning his side a 2-2 draw. James Knowles played for Aberdeen as they beat Motherwell 2-1, a deflected pass fell to the feet of Haowan and he swept the ball into the back of the net from 12 yards to put Rangers 1-0 up after 33 minutes, they won 2-0 against Hearts. Fuzzy Lightning made himself a hero on Sunday as his 90th minute strike earned Barcelona 3 points, Barcelona had been behind since the 14th minute but a goal in the 89th minute had given them hope and when the young American grabbed a last gasp winner the away section of the crowd couldn’t stop signing his name. A good through ball from Mat Frith put Jack Smithston in on goal and he slotted calmly in at the near post to make it 1-1 with 50 minutes played, it turned out to be no more than a consolation goal though as Fulham lost 1-3 to Sunderland. In Scotland it was a special day for Bob Mcbob as he turned and hit a bullet into the bottom corner from 25 yards, he wheeled away to celebrate pulling Celtic level and the 100th league goal of his career, the day was completed by Celtic claiming a 1-2 win over Dundee Utd.

Mid week tragedy struck for Australian striker Marky Mark after some wonderful form for Benfica, while the team was enjoying a 2 week break from games Marky fell awkwardly in a training sesssion and broke his foot seeing him out for up to 4 months.

On Wednesday Brendan Petersen played for Inter in a 3-2 loss to Juventus in the Italian Cup, Ant FM08 played in a 2-2 draw with Derby and James Knowles played as Aberdeen beat Inverness CT 1-0.

Saturday began with the race leader Bob Mcbob as he played a lovely one-two on the edge of the box with Padraig O’Halloran, as he received the return pass Mcbob hammered the ball into the bottom corner to put his side 1-0 up. With 54 minutes played a pass across the face of goal put Hibs in even more trouble as Mcbob composed himself before beating the keeper to double the lead and on 67 minutes Padraig O’Halloran got in on the act with a header which beat the keeper at his near post to make it 3-0. Also in Scotland James Knowles played in a 3-1 loss to Hearts. In England attention turned to the FA Cup and Mark Webber continued his incredible comeback, a corner was met by the head of Webber and his 75th minute goal was enough to see Tottenham through with a 1-2 win over West Ham. Loic Flamilson played for Aston Villa as they went through 1-2 against Lincoln while Mark Cator played in a 0-1 loss to Blackburn. Lewis Hamilton headed Reading into the lead after 67 minutes when a corner found him unmarked inside the 6 yard box and they progressed 1-3 against Bristol City. Mat Frith scored after 3 minutes to put Fulham 0-1 up from close range, 50 minutes later he was at it again as a good finish found the top corner and made it 0-2. Jack Smithston seems determined to push Bob Mcbob all the way for this race victory and Smithston’s near post header on 55 minutes put him back in the frame for 10 points and when a terrible touch from a Rotherham defender gave Smithston the ball just 5 minutes later he didn’t waste his chance to close in further on Mcbob and he made it 0-4 and Fulham went onto win 2-5. Poor defending seemed to be the order of the day as a terrible back pass found Nicky and he had the easy task of finding an empty net to get his side back in the game and only 1-2 down to Man Utd, it wasn’t enough though and Leeds went out 1-3. On Sunday Ant FM08 featured as a sub when Newcastle managed a 0-1 win at Stamford bridge, Fuzzy Lightning also played off the bench in a 2-2 draw with Real Sociedad. Final action of the day came from Scotland where Haowan robbed a defender 40 yards from goal, from then in it was all too easy as he rounded the advancing goalkeeper and scored from 6 yards to put Rangers 0-2 up in an eventual 1-3 win.

We entered the final lap and Mikael Schøler returned to action on Tuesday after a long winter break as Schalke progressed to the next round of the German Cup with a 0-1 win. Mark Webber’s happy return to the Tottenham team came to an end as he played in a 2-1 loss to Liverpool. Lewis Hamilton wasted his last chance to push for points in a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth. Nicky played in a losing effort for Leeds as they went down 0-1 to Ipswich which saw Leeds slip to 5th, a nice touch took Andrew Billen past his defender and he smashed into the bottom corner after 57 minutes but his efforts were not enough as West Brom came out 2-1 winners. In Scotland there was a League Cup semi final to be decided as Aberdeen took on Celtic, a 30 yard free kick after just 8 minutes dipped big time after clearing the wall and took the Celtic keeper by surprise and James Knowles celebrated giving his side an early lead with a great goal. Celtic equalised and took the game to extra time and in the 105th minute a deflected shot fell to the feet of Padraig O’Halloran 6 yards from goal and he proceeded to win the game for his side. On Wednesday night Mark Cator and Loic Flamilson both played in losing efforts, Ant FM08 grabbed himself a 10 minute double to put Newcastle in the drivers seat before the half hour in a 3-0 win over West Ham and finally Jack Smithston continued his last minute persuit of Bob Mcbob with a 75th minute strike which turned out to be no more than consolation in a 3-1 loss to Birmingham. And that was the race.

Driver of the Day - In the end this turned out to be a very tight race, as far as the victory was concerned at least. Jack Smithston came up just short needing just 1 more goal to take the race win but in the end Bob Mcbob came up trumps to claim his first race win of the season and his 9th career victory which puts him just one win behind Loic Flamilson in terms of career wins, Flamilson currently has the most. So Bob Mcbob deservedly picks up dotd. As for the title, it’s as close as it ever has been with 13 points separating 9 drivers any of whom could take the championship. On the other hand a late charge from any driver, even one that has scored little or no points as yet could still see them take the title considering such a low points total currently leads the championship.

So with no FM09 until Monday for me I thought I'd celebrate with an update

Race 7 - February

We started the race with last months winner Bob Mcbob, a long throw found him in acres of space on the edge of the box and he used the chance to find the far corner for the last of Celtic’s 5-1 win over Falkirk, it was Bob’s 25th of the season. In Germany Michael Schumacher played in a 3-1 win for Mainz while Mikael Schøler played in a 1-1 draw. In England Mark Cator and Southampton must’ve been wondering how they lost 0-1 to Spurs as the south coast side missed 2 penalties, Mark Webber played for the visitors. Ant FM08 played as Newcastle managed a 2-0 win over Preston and Loic Flamilson played in a 2-0 loss to Liverpool. His team mate Mat Frith scored a goal on the stroke of half time for Fulham to net his 10th of the season but it was nothing more than consolation as Jack Smithston and Alex Rodgers both played in the 1-3 loss to Everton. Leeds had to rely on their captain to earn them 3 points when a lovely cross field pass found Nicky 8 yards from goal, good control and a good finish saw the young striker come up with an 89th minute winner. Hull on the other hand looked to Andrew Billen for an equaliser, less than 2 minutes into the second half he supplied one after getting in front of his defender before turning and finding the back of the net, Hull went onto win 2-1. Ontoth Eleftside picked up a yellow card as Watford drew 0-0. Scottish Cup returned on Sunday and James Knowles played as Aberdeen crashed out 0-2 to Hearts, Haowan on the other hand netted after 16 minutes when a terrible backpass left him with an open goal, Rangers went through 4-0 over Motherwell. Lewis Hamilton did all he could to get on the end of a cross and it paid dividends as his headed goal gave Reading the lead after 12 minutes, it didn’t last long though and they eventually lost 1-2 to Man City. Werder Bremen had a hero in the form of Quick Nick, first a long free kick was met by the young German’s head and he gave them a 0-1 lead after 33 minutes then with 69 minutes played another long ball gave him another chance as this time he ran onto the ball before scoring from a tight angle to earn his side a 0-2 win over Hertha BSC.

Michael Schumacher headed in from close range after 48 minutes for Mainz but it wasn’t enough to earn a point as they lost 2-1 in a Friday night game. On Saturday Mikael Schøler played in a 2-2 draw for Schalke and Quick Nick came of the bench in a 1-0 win while in Spain Fuzzy Lightning made his first appearance of the month in a 1-0 loss to Valencia. Loic Flamilson and Lewis Hamilton contested a highly exciting 2-3 win for Reading although neither driver was on the score sheet, Mark Cator found himself in open space and he scored from 25 yards for Southampton after 50 minutes, his goal probably should have given them a victory but a Man City fight back saw the game end 2-2. Ontoth Eleftside played again for Watford as they lost 1-0, Andrew Billen got Hull off to a flyer against Norwich as he scored the opening goal after just 3 minutes in a high scoring 2-4 win for the league leaders. On Sunday a good curling free kick found the head of Jack Smithston at the far post and he found the back of the net en route to a 0-3 win at Derby, Mat Frith also played. Padraig O’Halloran also netted a header on Sunday, his near post flick on from a corner found the back of the net and not only doubled his side’s lead but also earned him his 100th league goal, Bob Mcbob also played in the 0-3 win over Dunfermline. James Knowles made the best of some poor defending on Monday night as he grabbed a goal in each half and Aberdeen ran out 1-4 winners over Falkirk.

On Wednesday Leeds as ever looked to their captain for inspiration and for the second time this month he provided a last gasp winner for his team, this time it came from a good cross and the young striker had an easy headed finish which made up for his earlier booking in a 1-2 win at Wigan, it was Nicky's 25th goal of the season. Hull showed everyone why they are top of the league against Crystal Palace, Andrew Billen beat the goalkeeper to a long free kick and headed in to make it 2-0 after just 4 minutes, 7 minutes later Billen won his side a free kick on the edge of the box and despite it going completely wrong the ball fell at Billen’s feet and he hammered in from 18 yards to score his 30th of the season and the third of the game as Hull ran away to a 5-0 win. A fantastic curling effort from 25 yards was more than enough to earn Ontoth Eleftside a goal to put Watford 1-0 up going in at half time, they won the game 2-1 and went top of the table. Finally it was time for Man Utd to feel the wrath of the FMGP drivers, Jack Smithston found the top corner after just 34 seconds to put Fulham in the lead then after 38 minutes he produced a goal that was in almost every way identical, from the bamboozling of John O’Shea to the fantastically placed finish in the top corner to make it 2-0. Man Utd got a goal just before the break but Fulham were having nothing of a comeback, Mat Frith burst into the box and powered a shot through the keeper and into the net for 3-1 at half time. A long ball over the top put Jack Smithston in for his hat-trick less than 10 minutes into the second period and the youngster took it well putting his side 3 goals clear and despite a last minute scare Fulham won 4-3. On Thursday night the Uefa Cup returned and Haowan kicked off the action as he played in a 1-0 loss to Napoli, Mikael Schøler and James Knowles faced off against each other as one faces elimination from the competition, there were no clues as to who it would be following the game though as it ended 0-0 in Scotland. Celtic will want to make up for their early exit from the champions league but their Uefa Cup campaign could’ve done with a better start, Bob Mcbob turned and hammered into the bottom corner after 27 minutes and Padraig O’Halloran did well when he was found from a throw in and the Irishman scored from 4 yards on the stroke of half time but they still lost 3-2 to Racing.

With Andrew Billen sitting as joint leader of the race a groin injury could not have come at a much worse time, the striker will miss two weeks of action and more than likely his chance of a race win this month.

Mikael Schøler finally got himself back on the score sheet for Schalke, a quick counter attack put him clean through on goal and although he was left with an incredibly tight angle after rounding the keeper he still found the net for 1-0 and Schalke claimed a 2-1 win, Michael Schumacher played in a 1-2 loss for Mainz. An otherwise dull Saturday saw Lewis Hamilton booked in a 0-0 FA Cup draw with Derby and Arthur White play in a 2-0 win over Stoke in the same competition. Sunday was in comparison very exciting although it didn’t start that way when Fuzzy Lightning only played in a 3-0 win over Betis. The action soon picked up though when Quick Nick put Werder Bremen into a 1-2 lead with just 4 minutes to go. In the FA Cup Fulham faced Aston Villa and Jack Smithston got the home side off to a great start when he robbed a defender and smashed in after 12 minutes, Mat Frith got one, or in fact two over his team mate Loic Flamilson as Frith scored twice for the London club in a game that ended 4-2. In Scotland Padraig O’Halloran played for Celtic in a 3-0 win while Haowan scored a simple tap in with 20 minutes remaining to put Rangers 2-3 up but the game with St Mirren ended 3-3. I usually like to leave the best performance to last and today was no exception, James Knowles latched onto a long ball and finished well after 74 minutes to put Aberdeen 1-3 up and collect his 25th goal of the season. Ten minutes later he was in again as the defence couldn’t cope with his pace and he found the far corner for 1-4 and with just 2 minutes of the game left another ball in behind the defence allowed Knowles to get one on one with the keeper and he kept his head to net his hat-trick.

Tuesday evening’s only action saw Ant FM08 play in a 1-1 draw in the Champions League. Wednesday was equally boring as Nicky played in a 2-1 loss to Burnley. Finally some action on Thursday although for Quick Nick it was bad news as even a 0-1 win at Ajax wasn’t enough to see Werder Bremen through to the next round of the Uefa Cup. Padraig O’Halloran found Bob Mcbob on the edge of the area and the reigning drivers champion skinned his defender before finding the back of the net after 9 minutes which was enough to see Celtic through on away goals. Rangers managed a 1-0 win over Napoli which saw the two sides level on aggregate, after extra time they stared penalties in the face and the last penalty fell to Haowan, if he scored Rangers went through. The youngster kept his head and sent the keeper the wrong way to make up for his earlier yellow card and sent his side onwards. The last remaining Scottish side was Aberdeen and James Knowles travelled to Germany to face Mikael Schøler and Schalke, neither player scored as the German’s triumphed 3-0.

The last weekend in February was upon us and it looked like this race was going to be between James Knowles and Jack Smithston, with the former not playing until Sunday we began with the latter. And a good start to the weekend it was as after 38 minutes Jack Smithston slotted in from 8 yards for his 30th goal of the season and to put Fulham 1-0 up. The show was somewhat stolen by his strike partner though as Mat Frith smashed in to double his sides advantage just before the break and he doubled his personal tally in the second half with a well place volley finding the top corner for his 15th goal of the season, he also put himself right up amongst it at the front of the race. Two time drivers champion Loic Flamilson was on target for Aston Villa as his powerful effort on 70 minutes helped his side to a 3-3 draw away at Southampton. Lewis Hamilton played for Reading in a 0-1 loss to Chelsea before we saw quite an incredible performance in the Newcastle vs. Tottenham game. Mark Webber turned his defender brilliantly before firing into the bottom corner after 25 minutes for the away side, his second goal was far less complicated as he was first to a rebound and doubled his tally on 63 minutes and finally in the 89th minute the Australian was first to a cross and headed past a helpless goalkeeper to collect his hat-trick and man of the match, his performance however was irrelevant as Spurs lost 6-3. Nicky may have been offside when his well placed finish put Leeds level with QPR after 28 minutes but the flag stayed down, it stayed down again on 44 minutes, although this time there was no question of offside as he headed his team into the lead and it seemed hat-tricks were the order of the day as within a minute Nicky had grabbed his third after a fantastic through ball. Ontoth Eleftside fired in a wonderful 30 yard strike to put Watford 3-0 up after 40 minutes, he took advantage of an injured defender to stay onside and head in his second and 20th of the season in the first minute of the second half and seemingly not wanting to miss out on the action he headed in just 2 minutes later for his hat-trick, the third of the day. Mikael Schøler scored possibly the best goal of the day as he received the ball 30 yards out before beating two defenders and blasting an unstoppable effort into the top corner from 18 yards, with things going how they had done so far when Schøler fans saw that Schalke had scored three times they might have got excited however that fantastic goal was the only one scored by the Dane in a 1-3 win. Quick Nick has been on quite a hot streak of late and he continued that when his strike from a tight angle gave Werder Bremen a 30th minute lead. The only Sunday action took place in Scotland, Padraig O’Halloran found the back of the net for Celtic with a fairly long range header after 58 minutes and that was enough for a 0-1 win at Motherwell which also involved Bob Mcbob. Haowan and James Knowles both played in victories for their sides but James Knowles flew off the track with only 1 lap to go and put himself out for up to 3 weeks, opening the door for any of the chasing pack.

A few Wednesday night games allowed a last chance for points for some drivers, one of those was Nicky and he put himself in contention for the podium as he opened the scoring with a very powerful finish into the far corner after 54 minutes en route to a 3-0 win over Coventry. Haowan made the most of his chance as well with a headed effort in a 2-1 loss to Aberdeen. The final driver to get a chance was Mikael Schøler as Schalke travelled to Aachen in the German Cup, he also took advantage and a good run in behind the defence raised questions about offside but the Dane had a goal to his name and a 0-2 win for his team after 54 minutes.

Driver of the Day - A shared race win usually leads to a shared dotd and that is going to be the case this month as well, two of the Fulham drivers battling it out for the victory and in the end finishing dead level. Nicky came close to stealing 10 points of his own and he would’ve done just that without a booking.

This looks like being the closest championship yet and in my opinion anybody as far down as Mikael Schøler in the standings could still take the title. The constructors is a bit more clear cut, it looks like being a two horse race between Nicky/Hamilton and Cator/Billen but there is still an outside chance of another team stealing it with 3 races to go.

Race 8 - March

With 3 races left and the championship wide open now seems as good a time as any to make a real effort for a race win and it seemed there were a few drivers looking for a good start. In the Saturday’s early kick off there was a big London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal, 8 minutes into the game Mark Webber was left all alone on the edge of the Arsenal box and a delightful chip found the far corner to put the home side ahead. A red card and two Arsenal goals later Spurs were staring defeat in the face but Webber was given space again and his shot moved all over the place and beat the keeper from 18 yards to bring the 10 men level at 2-2 after 84 minutes which was how it ended. Former drivers champion Loic Flamilson has had a quiet season but he got off to a bang in this race as a wonderful free kick from 20 yards curled round the wall and into the top corner to set Aston Villa on their way after just 4 minutes. Jack Smithston and Mat Frith both played for Fulham in a 0-1 win over Blackburn and Ant FM08 played from the bench in a 3-4 win over Man City. Mikael Schøler played for Schalke in a 0-2 loss to Werder Bremen, Fuzzy Lightning played from the bench in a 3-0 win and in Scotland a neat turn from Bob Mcbob allowed him to fire in his 100th league goal for Celtic from 18 yards after 21 minutes, Padaig O’Halloran also played in a 4-0 win over Hearts. In the Championship Andrew Billen played in a 1-0 loss to Stoke, a good through ball found Nicky in on goal after 24 minutes and he rounded the keeper before finding the empty net for his 30th goal of the season and to put his side ahead. Four minutes later a square pass on the edge of the box gave Nicky a simple finish and he slid his shot past a stranded goalkeeper to double his sides advantage and his personal tally, two minutes from time a deflected shot fell to Nicky inside the six yard box and he stuck out a leg to divert it into the net and claim his hat-trick in what was a 1-4 win over Colchester. Ontoth Eleftside played as Watford lost 1-0. Sunday was a day of little action, Lewis Hamilton played in a 2-2 draw at Liverpool while Haowan played in a 3-2 loss to Hibernian.

On Tuesday Night Fuzzy Lightning played from the bench as Barcelona overcame Ac Milan to progress in the Champions League, Brendan Petersen played as Inter went out against Real Madrid. Andrew Billen and Nicky both played in 2-0 wins for their teams. On Thursday Mikael Schøler played as Schalke beat AZ 2-0 in the Uefa Cup, Haowan’s 62nd minute near post strike looked to have given Rangers a 1-0 win but a 90th minute equaliser saw them draw 1-1 with Liverpool. Celtic went a goal down early away at Porto but a perfect response from the Scots came after just 14 minutes when some terrible positioning from the goalkeeper gave Bob Mcbob and easy finish to level things up. Padraig O’Halloran latched on to a massive boot up field by the keeper and once again the Porto keeper was badly placed giving the Irishman the opportunity to put his side ahead which he did on 38 minutes. With 65 minutes played O’Halloran picked up the ball just inside the opposition half and held off three defenders en route to smashing a powerful shot into the far corner from 18 yards to give his side a 1-3 lead and surely one foot in the next round.

The weekend saw the FA Cup return and it was the partnership of Jack Smithston and Mat Frith that saw Fulham through, Smithston’s cross was headed in by Frith after just 4 minutes to put Fulham ahead and Smithston flicked on for Frith to finish from close range 10 minutes later as they won 2-1, Mat Frith however picked up a gearbox problem which could keep him out for the rest of the race. Lewis Hamilton somehow scored from a tight angle after 40 minutes to put Reading 1-0 up against Tottenham and to claim his 20th of the season, Mark Webber produced a lovely touch to beat the goalkeeper following a good through ball to put Spurs level at the break, Reading went onto claim a 2-1 win. Andrew Billen played in a 0-0 draw with Swansea whilst Nicky continued his impressive start to the race as he was left wide open and rounded the keeper after 18 minutes for an easy finish, a poor second half from Leeds saw them draw 2-2. Ontoth Eleftside found himself in for two easy finishes within the opening 10 minutes as he finished a good cross from point blank range before dispossessing the goalkeeper and finding the empty net for both goals in a 2-0 win. Michael Schumacher scored a goal of real quality for Mainz as he cut back on his left foot and powered into the bottom corner after just 4 minutes as they won 0-3. Mikael Schøler found himself with far more space than he needed to put Schalke 1-2 up within 5 minutes of the restart and the Dane claimed his first goal of the month in a 1-3 win. Fuzzy Lightning played in a 1-1 draw away at Celta. On Sunday Ant FM08 grabbed himself a goal ten minutes into the second half as Newcastle progressed 3-1 over QPR, he picked up man of the match and an injury keeping him out for up to 3 weeks. Quick Nick played in a 3-1 win over Wolfsburg and Brendan Petersen claimed his first goal of the race as he flicked on a corner at the near post the give Inter a 0-2 win. In the Scottish Cup Haowan found the net from a tight angle to give Rangers a 1-0 lead over Dundee at half time, just a few minutes into the second period he dug the ball out from under his feet and found the top corner from 18 yards to double the lead and score his 25th goal of the season. With 61 minutes played Haowan put the nail in the coffin as he turned well and buried the ball in the back of the net from 6 yards for his hat-trick and a 3-1 win.

On Tuesday night James Knowles scored nothing short of a wonder goal on his return to the Aberdeen squad, beating three defenders on his way to goal he then proceeded to smash a curling effort into the far corner that no keeper in the world could’ve kept out. Andrew Billen played in a 3-0 win for Hull while Nicky retook the race lead as he broke away to score after 20 minutes as Leeds won 2-0, Nicky also picked up a yellow card.Ontoth Eleftside played in a 4-2 loss to the MK Dons. On Wednesday Loic Flamilson did well to finish from a tight angle after 65 minutes but his efforts were wasted in a 5-1 loss to Newcastle. Thursday night was Uefa Cup night and it started with a disaster for Rangers as Haowan played in a 4-1 loss to Liverpool seeing the Scottish side crash out. Padraig O’Halloran opened the scoring at Celtic Park with a delicate chip from the edge of the area to put Celtic in firm control of the tie and score his 30th of the season, just minutes later though the Irishman’s season went down the drain as a torn calf muscle will keep him out for the rest of the season, Bob Mcbob played in the 1-1 draw which saw Celtic through. Mikael Schøler put Schalke into an even better position than they already were just 7 minutes into their trip to AZ, a clever drop of the shoulder sent the keeper the wrong way and left an easy finish for his 25th goal of the season, AZ equalised before the break but Schøler wasn’t content with a draw and smashed in a low drive after 54 mintues for a 1-2 win sending his side through comfortably.

Back to league action on Saturday and Mikael Schøler continued to push hard as his first half strike from 18 yards put Schalke 2-0 up at the break, in the second half Schøler met a corner at the near post and headed in one of many second half goals in a 7-0 win. Michael Schumacher played in a 1-1 draw. Lewis Hamilton found the back of the net for Reading after 35 minutes to level the score as they went on to draw 2-2 with Southampton, Loic Flamilson played in a 0-1 loss to Arsenal. Andrew Billen seems to have hit a barren spell in terms of goals although Hull are managing fine without them as they won 1-0, Leeds on the other hand could’ve done with a goal from Nicky in their 2-2 draw. Ontoth Eleftside played as Watford recorded a 0-1 win. Sunday started with a bit of a shock as Mat Frith returned early from injury to score a belter from 18 yards which was enough to earn Fulham a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park, Jack Smithston was also involved. Mark Webber warmed up a frosty White Hart Lane as he followed up his own shot to put Tottenham into a 2-0 lead as he tapped in the rebound, his short Spurs career has been nothing short of prolific scoring 14 goals in 15 games. Brendan Petersen continued his promising start to the month with another goal for Inter, the Australian fired in from 12 yards after 15 minutes to give Inter the lead as they won 2-0 against Parma, his team mate Quick Nick played in a 0-0 draw. Haowan played for Rangers in a 0-1 win over Dunfermline before attention turned to the Scottish League Cup final, or it might have done had any of the drivers been involved, as it happened they weren’t as Celtic claimed a 3-0 win over Dundee Utd.

On Tuesday Schalke faced Kaiserslautern in the German Cup semi final, the same team they had smashed 7 past at the weekend, however the game took a similar pattern when Mikael Schøler opened the scoring after 43 minutes. The result may not have been quite as convincing but a 2-0 win saw Schalke through to the final and his goal saw Schøler take the race lead. Wednesday games in the Premiership saw Jack Smithston, Mat Frith and Alex Rodgers all play in a 1-3 loss to Preston and Mark Webber play in a 2-0 loss to Man Utd. Lewis Hamilton grabbed a 5 minute double to put Reading in a commanding position, there was a hint of offside about the first goal on 13 minutes but there was no doubt about the fantastic chip from 18 yards on 18 minutes. Hamilton produced another moment of brilliance on 38 minutes when he cut inside his defender and blasted into the far corner to claim his hat-trick and make it 1-4 which was how it finished against Sunderland. Brendan Petersen’s former club may have been beaten badly but he was right at the heart of an Inter victory, he opened the scoring after 39 minutes as he glided past a defender and provided a quality finish for his 10th goal of the season. Five minutes into the second half the young striker was on target again and although his initial shot was saved he tucked away the rebound, not content with a brace he took advantage of a poor touch from a defender inside the 6 yard box and hammered in his hat-trick in emphatic style. James Knowles and Bob Mcbob both played as Celtic ran out 2-1 winners over Aberdeen.

A welcome international break gave the drivers some light refreshment and it meant when they returned we would be entering the final lap, there are a few drivers in with a shot of winning the race, Mikael Schøler currently leads it but with hat-tricks flying in left, right and centre this month the race victory could end up anywhere.

Speaking of hat-tricks there was at least one more to be scored before the end of the month and what a hat-trick it was, 18 minutes into Rangers game against Inverness CT a corner was cleared high into the air and as it fell Haowan took it first time on the volley from a full 35 yards and it flew into the top corner, a definite contender for goal of the season. His second may also be a contender when 2 minutes before the break a free kick was teed up for him to hit and he curled it with the outside of his boot around the wall and into the corner from 20 yards. His third and final goal came early in the second half as his first time shot from 30 yards rocketed into the net to secure a 3-1 win, 3 quality goals and the race lead. James Knowles took part in a first half blitz of Dunfermline as a poor back pass allowed the young Scot to score Aberdeen’s 4th goal of the game after just 20 minutes, the game ended 5-1. Mark Cator returned to the Southampton side in a 2-0 loss to Sunderland, Loic Flamilson played in a 1-0 loss to Man Utd and Ant FM08 got himself a goal in a 4-2 win. Lewis Hamilton beat his defender and passed into the far corner to claim his 25th goal of the season after 69 minutes, it put Reading 1-2 up but they ended up drawing 2-2 at The Riverside. A race that at one time looked to be Nicky’s slipped away from the Leeds captain as he failed to score in a 2-0 win, Andrew Billen rediscovered his goal scoring touch just in time as he overturned an early Charlton lead with strikes in the 16th and 32nd minute as Hull won 1-3 and secured at least a play off spot. Ontoth Eleftside played for Watford in a 2-1 win but he also picked up an injury keeping him out for between 1 and 2 months. Mikael Schøler could only play in Schalke’s 0-1 win and Michael Schumacher played in a 1-1 draw for Mainz meaning that only Brendan Petersen is in with a shout of stealing this race victory from Haowan. Quick Nick started the Sunday by showing the sort of form his team mate needs to take this race, a clearance turned into a great through ball and Nick rounded the keeper to level things up after 18 minutes. Five minutes into the second half and Quick Nick was in again and he found the bottom corner to level the score again at 2-2, it was to no avail though as Werder lost 5-2. In Spain Fuzzy Lightning came off the bench in a 1-2 win at Villarreal and in Scotland Bob Mcbob produced a wonderful strike from 20 yards to earn himself his 30th goal of the season and Celtic claimed a 0-4 win over Kilmarnock. Brendan Petersen fans were disappointed as their favourite Australian was nowhere to be seen as Inter won 2-0.

Driver of the Day - A tough decision this time around, it could easily have gone to any of the top 4 finishers with all of them scoring a hat-trick at some point during the race. Haowan, Mikael Schøler and Nicky all gave themselves a good shot at the drivers title with their high placed finishes so dotd can go to the one who doesn’t stand much chance of winning anything else this season, except maybe Serie A, Brendan Petersen. Now the drivers championship is really hotting up, if ever there was a time to find some form its now with drivers as far down as Lewis Hamilton still standing a chance of winning, all be it a slim one.

Race 9 - April

Entering the penultimate race things have never been closer, the championship is wide open and its never been more important to get a win under your belt than it is at this moment in time, the drivers title will be won or lost in the next two months of football.

So the drivers in England looked to get a head start as they played on Monday and it was Mat Frith who got the jump on the rest of the pack as he scored twice in 2 minutes against Man City, he got a lucky bounce which allowed him to smash home from about 4 yards for his first on 32 minutes then doubled the lead with a nice curling effort from 18 yards on 34 minutes, Jack Smithston and Alex Rodgers also played in the 3-2 loss to Man City. Loic Flamilson played in a 1-1 draw with Birmingham whilst Mark Cator played in a 0-1 loss Middlesbrough. Andrew Billen played for Hull in a 2-1 win, he needs to pick his form up if he wants to win the drivers championship.

On Wednesday night Fuzzy Lightning came off the bench in a 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge, on Thursday Mikael Schøler played as Schalke travelled to Wolfsburg in an all German Uefa Cup tie, the Dane came away disappointed to have lost 1-0.

Saturday came around and in the Premiership Mark Webber single handedley dragged Tottenham back into their game against Derby, his headed goal from a corner put them back in the game at 2-1 with 22 minutes played and he raced away from the defence to level things up just 9 minutes later, Webber claimed man of the match and Spurs claimed a 2-3 win. It was also an FA Cup weekend and Liverpool played Fulham and when Jack Smithston’s well placed shot found the back of the net after 7 minutes it was to put the London side two goals clear. Liverpool fought back and when Smithston headed in it was in the 103rd minute after normal time had ended 2-2, it looked like going to penalties but a last gasp winner for Liverpool sent them through 4-3, Mat Frith also played. Andrew Billen tried desperately to kick start his race and try to cling onto his lead in the drivers championship with an 18th minute goal in a 0-2 win over Walsall, unfortunately he picked up a flat tyre keeping him out for up to a week. Nicky played for Leeds as they lost 0-2. In Scotland Haowan found the net with a close range header in a 0-3 win whilst James Knowles fired in from close range in a 1-2 win, both players notched their 30th goals of the season. Brendan Petersen played in a 0-1 win over Genoa, Quick Nick played in a 4-1 win over Koln and Mikael Schøler grabbed a 90th minute equaliser for Schalke as they drew 1-1 with FC Bayern. On Sunday Ant FM08 and Lewis Hamilton faced off the second FA Cup final and it was the Northern side who came out on top running away to a 3-0 victory. Bob Mcbob played in a 0-1 win over St Mirren as Celtic claimed their place as SPL champions once again, in Germany Michael Schumacher inspired Mainz to victory as two goals from the German turned a 1-0 loss into a 1-2 victory.

On Wednesday night Ant FM08 scored the biggest goal of his career as his 2nd minute strike sent Newcastle into the Champions League semi final. Thursday night saw a bit of magic from Bob Mcbob as he turned his defender brilliantly on the edge of the box before driving in from a tight angle to give Celtic a 1-1 draw at Sunderland which saw the Scottish champions through. Schalke needed a result as they hosted Wolfsburg after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg, less than 5 minutes into the second half Mikael Schøler struck with a close range header to level the tie up, just one more goal would see Schalke through. Schøler may want to leave for a bigger club but he didn’t show it as on 65 minutes he rose high at the back post and nodded in a free kick to send the home fans into raptures and his side through to the semi finals where they face Celtic.

At the weekend Mark Webber, Mark Cator, Lewis Hamilton, Jack Smithston and Mat Frith were all involved in some action or another in the EPL but none of them came up with a goal. Nicky played for Leeds as they lost 3-2 to Bolton and Andrew Billen played in a 3-0 win for Hull. Fuzzy Lightning played as Real Madrid destroyed Barcelona 4-0. Mikael Schøler played and picked up a booking in a 2-1 loss. In the Scottish Cup it took Haowan only 3 minutes to score the only goal of the day for our drivers as his nice chip found the back of the net and Rangers won 4-0 against St Johnstone. On Sunday Loic Flamilson played in a 0-3 loss for Aston Villa while Ant FM08 opened the scoring for Newcastle after just 2 minutes in a 1-2 win.

There were a few mid week games including an old firm derby, Haowan opened the scoring after just 11 minutes following a good through ball, Bob Mcbob also played in the game as it ended 2-2. Mikael Schøler was also in action on Tuesday as he played in a 1-0 win for Schalke. On Wednesday Lewis Hamitlon payed for Reading as they lost 1-2 to Newcastle. It was the London derby between Fulham and Tottenham that saw the most excitement though, Spurs hit Fulham on the counter attack and it was left to Mark Webber to strike a powerful shot past the keeper on 66 minutes to level the game up at 1-1. Less than 2 minutes later Fulham had restored their lead though as a cross missed out everybody and Jack Smithston was first to the loose ball and he had a fairly simple finish to make it 2-1. With 3 minutes left on the clock Fulham cemented their victory as Mat Frith was played in on goal and he calmly went by the keeper before finding the empty net, a 90th minute goal from Spurs made the game look closer than it was but Fulham took the 3 points.

We got the weekend off to an early start in Scotland as they played on Friday firstly with Celtic taking on Aberdeen, Bob Mcbob beat the keeper to a good through ball and went round him to give himself and easy finish after 20 minutes for the first goal and Bob went on to claim man of the match in a 3-1 win which also involved James Knowles. Haowan seems to have hit top form these last few weeks and he continued in sensational style, as a corner was cleared he didn’t think twice about taking on a 25 yard volley and his confidence paid off as he opened the scoring after 38 minutes with a spectacular goal. Then on 81 minutes Haowan was on hand to tuck away a rebound for his second of the match before just 2 minutes later he latched onto a bouncing ball and hammered a volley in at the near post from inside the box for his hat-trick, his 100th career goal for Rangers, a 2-4 victory over Hearts and the race lead. Saturday saw Lewis Hamilton play as Reading got handed a 4-0 loss at The Emirates Stadium and Ant FM08 scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Mark Cator and Southampton. The only other game that day was the German Cup final between FC Bayern and Schalke, Mikael Schøler played for his side as they claimed a historic 1-0 victory to take home the cup for the first time in 4 years. Sunday threw up an unexpected hero in Spain as Fuzzy Lightning found himself with acres of space on the edge of the box and slotted past the keeper less than a minute after coming on as a sub, his 75th minute goal gave Barcelona a 1-0 win over Espanyol. Finally in Italy there was a big Milan derby as Inter “hosted” AC, 37 minutes in a clever free kick found Brendan Petersen 10 yards from goal and he did well to hold off a defender before firing the “home” side into the lead and they went onto claim a 2-0 win as well as an 8 point lead at the top of the table.

Ant FM08 played on Tuesday in a 1-0 Champions League loss to Man Utd, there were Wednesday games in the SPL and Haowan played in a 4-2 win over Inverness CT although he couldn’t extend his lead further by scoring, James Knowles on the other hand fired into the far corner from a tight angle after 29 minutes as Aberdeen claimed a 3-2 win over Hearts. On Thursday night Schalke played Celtic in the Uefa Cup with the German side coming out victorious 1-0, Mikael Schøler and Bob Mcbob both featured. Gold Member was also involved in the Uefa Cup game between Birmingham and Liverpool with the midlands side grabbing a 2-1 win.

Fuzzy Lightning got the weekend underway for us even though his heroics last week hadn’t earned him a starting spot, he came off the bench in a 3-2 loss to Sevilla. Michael Schumacher was played in and found the net from a difficult angle to grab an 86th minute equaliser in a 3-3 draw with 1860 Munich. Ant FM08 played for Newcastle in a 1-0 loss to Sunderland, Mark Cator played as Southampton lost 1-0 to Man Utd and Mark Webber played in a 2-1 loss to Blackburn. Nicky played for Leeds in a 1-1 draw with Stoke and with that Leeds secured a playoff spot, Andrew Billen turned and scored from 8 yards with a powerful effort in a 2-1 loss to Millwall. On Sunday Brendan Petersen benefited from an Inter counter attack and smashed home his 15th goal of the season after 80 minutes to give Inter a 0-2 win over Torino. Mikael Schøler provided an equaliser for Schalke with a powerful diving header on 62 minutes after his side had fallen behind in the first minute of a game that ended 2-2. Fulham came up with the perfect result to help them shrug off relegation threats, Mat Frith headed them into a 39th second lead over Liverpool. Jack Smithston produced a looping header over the goalkeeper after just 4 minutes to double the advantage and claim his 35th goal of the season and Smithston turned provider after just 12 minutes of play when Mat Frith doubled his tally after the goalkeeper saved his intial effort. Liverpool managed an early goal in the second half but any thoughts of a comeback went out the window, Fulham got the last laugh when Mat Frith claimed his hat-trick with a close range finish 5 minutes before the final whistle. Lewis Hamilton held off a defender and managed to squeeze in a shot which found the net from an acute angle to draw Reading level with Birmingham, in the second half his near post header from a corner put Reading into a 1-2 lead and in the 71st minute he picked up the ball and ran unopposed into the opposition penalty area and although his first attempt was saved his second shot found the net to give him a hat-trick and Reading a 2-3 win. And on the back of those two incredible performances we finished the race.

Driver of the Day - Well he may have felt harshly done by not to get it last month after an impressive race win but with back to back victories now to his name and with taking the lead in the drivers championship, it has to go to Haowan. I’ve been saying for the last few races that it could be anybody’s title this year and two quality races from the young Englishman have proved to be enough to make him a real contender. Mikael Schøler picked up his second consecutive second place and will feel slightly disappointed not to have won either race despite being close on the heels of the winner.

We’re left with an interesting situation because mathematically 6 drivers can still walk away with the title however with Padraig O’Halloran injured until the end of the season technically it is only 5. Haowan is currently in the drivers seat and has a good chance of winning given his form, Andrew Billen has helped Hull secure automatic promotion to the Premier League and because of this is not going to get much game time meaning he’ll need one or two very special performances to take the crown. Jack Smithston has only two games left to play and likewise will need to pull out something incredible, Mikael Schøler has perhaps the best chance with 4 league games plus at least one more Uefa Cup game to play, Nicky has to hope Leeds progress to the playoff final meaning he could play 4 games at the most.

Thats harsh, Bllen been leading since the very start ( I think) and now coming up to the wire, he has stopped playing as good and has given up the lead of the race in the last 2 races. Heres hoping he pulls his finger out for the final race or we will be pipped at the last turn.

Race 10 - May

This race may well be the most important in the history of FMGP, in the past we've had championships decided in the final race but never have 5 drivers still been in with a chance of claiming the Drivers Title. It will also be the last ever race to take place so fingers crossed for an exciting one.

Ant FM08 started the race from pole position when he played in the 2nd leg of Newcastle’s Champions League semi final against Man Utd and it was the away team who left with a 0-1 win which saw them through to set up a mouth watering final of Arsenal vs. Man Utd. On Thursday Mikael Schøler’s drivers championship hopes took a slight knock when Schalke lost 2-0 to Celtic meaning the Scottish side progressed to the Uefa Cup final against Liverpool, Bob Mcbob was also involved in the match.

We started off Saturday with championship leader Haowan, he did all he could to increase his title hopes and scored a very nice goal from 18 yards just one minute into the second half to bring Rangers level, unfortunately for Rangers James Knowles popped up with his 50th league goal for Aberdeen as he lost his defender before firing past the keeper and helped Aberdeen to a 2-3 win. In England Ant FM08 played as Newcastle claimed a 2-1 win over Arsenal, Loic Flamilson, who never left it this late to win his titles, picked up a rebound to put Aston Villa into a 1-0 lead after 17 minutes however they ended up drawing 1-1 with West Ham. Mark Webber continued his incredible scoring rate for Tottenham as his deflected shot opened the scoring after 26 minutes against Preston as Tottenham won 4-1, the Australian now has 18 goals in 21 games for Spurs. In this game its all about quantity not quality which was a shame for Jack Smithston as he tries to win his first championship, he scored a cracking goal from 25 yards to put Fulham 0-1 up after 12 minutes, unfortunately for him it was his only goal in a 3-1 loss to Reading with the final goal coming from 20 yards and Lewis Hamilton the scorer, Mat Frith also played. Sunday was the last day of Championship football for those not in the playoffs, Andrew Billen knew he needed a huge performance to stand any chance of winning the drivers championship. Much like his team mate last year Billen didn’t produce and neither for that matter did Hull as they drew 0-0, it was a double blow for Billen as Hull lost the top spot they’ve been holding since game 10 this season and finished 2nd in the league and he threw away his chance at the drivers title. Another championship contender Nicky had a fine day though when he levelled the score on 45 minutes after the keeper had missed a cross and gave him an easy tap in. His day got even better in the second half when he got in front of his defender and hammered across the goalkeeper to pick up a brace, Leeds won 2-3 and Nicky took the race lead. Brendan Petersen played for Inter as they lost 2-1 to Messina and had their lead at the top of the table reduced to 5 points with 2 games to go, Bob Mcbob picked up a yellow card as Celtic drew 1-1 at St Mirren and Mikael Schøler played against Michael Schumacher in a 1-0 win for Schalke, Schøler probably has the best chance of winning this race but he needs to start scoring goals. Mark Cator scored only his 10th goal of the season on the hour mark for Southampton to go 1-0 up against Birmingham but the game ended in a draw thanks to a 90th minute equaliser.

Wednesday night saw Brendan Petersen play as Inter crashed out of the Italian Cup to Roma in the semi final 2nd leg, Bob Mcbob played in a 1-0 loss to Hibs and Mikael Schøler once again failed to put any force behind his charge for the drivers title when he failed to score in a 3-2 loss.

On Saturday James Knowles and Haowan both played as their sides both scored 4 goals in wins over Inverness CT and Hibernian respectively, Haowan picked up a yellow card. Mikael Schøler wasted yet another chance to score as Schalke won 2-0 and the Dane was absent from the score sheet. Michael Schumacher played as Mainz won 0-1 but the real surprise came from Quick Nick as he smashed in a ten minute hat-trick for Werder Bremen as they cruised to a 3-0 win, Nick started his scoring after 27 minutes when he beat the goalie to a long ball and concluded it after 37 minutes when he directed a near post cross into the net, he also took the race lead. Sunday was the final day of EPL action and it saw Loic Flamilson play in a 1-1 draw with Blackburn and Mark Webber play in a 0-2 win over Portsmouth. Jack Smithston managed to latch onto a good through ball from Mat Frith and finish well past the Southampton goalkeeper to make it 1-0, Mat Frith was on hand to double the lead in the second half as Fulham won 2-0, Mark Cator also played. Ant FM08 played as Newcastle lost 3-2 to Man Utd which in turn saw Chelsea take the EPL title, Lewis Hamilton was the main inspiration for Reading as they beat Everton 1-4 as the Englishman scored after 14 minutes to collect his 30th goal of the season and again on the stroke of half time with a close range header. Brendan Petersen played for Inter as a 3-0 win over Atlanta saw them claim Serie A for the second season in a row. Nicky broke away and rounded the keeper after 26 minutes to put Leeds 2-0 up in their 1st leg playoff against Leicester, he then doubled his tally in the second half with a similar goal although this time he shot past the keeper before he could get near him, Nicky seems determined to get Leeds back to the Premier League and to give himself the best possible chance of becoming drivers champion.

Wednesday night was the Uefa Cup final and after 36 minutes Bob Mcbob sent the Celtic fans in attendance into raptures when he gave his side the lead, they were pegged back with 9 minutes left and after extra time the game went to penalties. It came down to the 5th and final kick but eventually it was Celtic who came away with a the cup and although they failed to retain their champions league trophy at least they had the Uefa Cup as consolation. Also on Wednesday was the 2nd leg of Leeds’ playoff semi final, Nicky put in a real captains performance when he put his side firmly in the drivers seat after 2 minutes, following a blocked shot Nicky finished emphatically. With a 3 goal lead it seemed they were through but two Leicester goals before half time and then Nicky flying off the track and injuring himself with half an hour to go seemingly destroyed the morale and Leeds crashed out on penalties. Nicky was leading the race but his fate was now out of his hands, though even if Leeds had progressed Nicky would have missed the final through injury.

And so this was it, the final few laps of the race, the season and the sign-up as a whole and still the drivers championship was up for grabs.

On Saturday Ant FM08 came of the bench in the FA Cup final against Liverpool who had suffered a blow midweek losing to Celtic, once again the Merseysider’s took the game to penalties but 2 bouts of extra time in 4 days must’ve taken it out of them as they again lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Mikael Schøler played in Schalke’s final game of the season and he finally came up with a goal this month, it was an easy tap in as he picked up a rebound in an exciting 4-4 draw with Hannover. So we entered Sunday, the final lap of the season with the closest drivers championship in history still to be decided and whatever the result we hoped for just a little bit more drama. First in Italy Brendan Petersen finished well at the near post to as Inter came from behind to beat Ascoli 2-3 and then to Scotland, where it was crucial what happened. Everybody had their eyes on Haowan, the championship leader but he didn’t produce anything of note in a 1-2 loss to Celtic, James Knowles on the other hand finished the race in style when a good cross found him unmarked at the far post and he had an easy tap in to put Aberdeen 2-1 up in first half injury time. Then on the hour mark with his side trailing Knowles was found with a great through ball and the young Scot kept his head, went around the goalkeeper and tucked away the 100th league goal of his career, a fine way to end the season. And so the Nicky camp exploded with joy as despite only having three wheels left on his vehicle he crawled over the finish line to take the race win, the 10 points and possibly the drivers championship, the only question now was where would everyone else finish?

Driver of the Day - Wow!! What can you say about that? An incredible finish to such a close season and really and truthfully only one contender for this award, he made his intentions clear from the very start of this race and he followed it up with a win. He may have got a little bit of luck with how the rest of the drivers ended up finishing the race but his performance probably warranted it, Nicky took the drivers championship and the constructors championship to become the 3rd ever driver to win both trophies. Heartbreak for Haowan who just didn’t do quite enough after his late charge for the title. A mention should probably go to Nicky’s team mate and wing man Lewis Hamilton as well though as he did his bit finishing in 3rd and keeping Haowan and the other drivers as low down the points tally as possible and James Knowles also put in a good performance in the race but in the end you just can’t look past Nicky for dotd.

Hmmm a winner and a smart arse I see :D Good spot though.

On a side note I'm going to holiday through to the end of the transfer window and give you all the transfer news as well as a final batch of player profiles and any other screenshots people may like. I may come back to this at some point and holiday it a few years down the line to see where our "drivers" ended up.

Also I intend to run the "it could be you.........who's crap" sign-up at some point in the near future, probably after my two week trip back home which starts on Monday. All of you guys are more than welcome to sign-up ;)
