canvey!!
Most of the 8.0.2 changes will take effect immediately, and some will take effect after the first new season. The anti-piracy features such as small teams entering the World Cup that occur when continuing from the demo doesn't seem to be fixed if you continue with the patch, but is if you restart. SI always recommend restarting but it isn't mandatory.
Scott1990
There is a HUGE difference in the match engine. Remember how you would regularly get 10-15 shots on target without scoring on 801? That's gone because the keepers are tuned down. So you'll score many, many more long shots and a few more 1v1s. Also, there's the new corner exploit in 802 which makes it really easy to score from corners if you use certain settings. Ummmm... also more free kicks go in and it's harder to get 1v1s because that closing down bug (which I didn't really notice in the first place) was apparently fixed. So you'll definitely need new tactics. The match engine is more realistic though, albeit a tad unforgiving.
