cerud
Looking very good in the league. It'll most likely come right down to the wire again! Tough break in the Champions League, wins over Bayern and Besiktas could see you through! This league is always down to the wire! Nice work in the league. This European group looks a little to strong this season.Nice work on the stadium expansion to . Thanks, SRL88. I've been asking for a stadium expansion since I arrived. Good work on continuing the impressive start in domestic football.Hopefully you can come 3rd to get in Europa which may require you beat Besiktas. I never thought about the chance to at least play in the Europa. At least there's a chance at more European football.
cerud
8 November 2016 Match 100 for Cerud in Netherlands sc Heerenveen is set to manage his 100th game for the club when they meet up with Roda. The journeyman manager has managed in several nations, but this will mark his longest stint with any one club. While this is a remarkable achievement, fans will be hoping for a win to further their league domination. There are also increasing rumours of Cerud moving at the end of the season of earlier. Several clubs in the Bundesliga have recently expressed interest in the Canadian manager. No comment has come from Cerud himself to confirm or deny. cerud
November 2016 Update sc Heerenveen - Eredivisie Eredivisie We began the month with our second loss of the season against PSV. It was another case of the squad just not playing well. I know that every so often, squads stop listening to managers and a shake up is required. I'm wondering if that may be the case. I also know that losing two players to transfers in the off season who were instrumental last year has hurt us. We are a younger squad now, so it may be a couple years before that same level of dominance is seen again. Our next three matches were all good showing, including a stellar performance against Ajax. The Standings We're at the halfway mark of the season and sitting in 1st place. It's a precarious first position as the usual suspects are all right behind us. It's always Vitesse, Ajax, and PSV. This season will be like the other two I've witnessed in the Netherlands; it will go right down to the end.
cerud
2016-2017 UEFA Champions League Group Stage Well, it's not looking good for us. FC Bayern simply outplayed us. We had only two shots all game. The Besiktas match was disappointing. I was hoping for a draw at least, but, again, the squad decided they had more important things to do than play. cerud
December 2016 Update sc Heerenveen - Eredivisie Eredivisie We had a fairly simple month as far as league play goes going into the winter break. The 8-0 blow out versus FC Oss was definitely a nice way to kick off the holiday season and should give the guys an incentive to continue once they return from the break. KNVB Beker Cup This was our first match in the KNVB Cup against another culb within our own league. ADO Den Haag are towards the bottom of the league, so this was a win preordained. The Standings Not much chance in the league table. The top four are the same and in relatively the same place and point differentials. I'm really not expecting much to change except in the matches that we play each other. Those will become the most important ones, as usual. However, we now have a break until the end of January. I've scheduled a couple friendlies just to keep up match fitness. Also increased interestin me from West Brom, Norwich, and a couple Italian and Spanish clubs. No offers though. cerud
2016-2017 UEFA Champions League Group Stage No luck against Arsenal. This ends our foray into the Champions League for this year. Unfortunately, there's no Europa League either as Besiktas was the better of the two better us. It looks like we get to concentrate on our own domestic league and cup now. cerud
2016 International Year in Review Canada National Soccer Team - Canadian Soccer Association FIFA World Ranking - 48th World Rankings | Past Positions - We've improved our rating this year by 9 points. Much of this is due to how well we have done in the World Cup Qualifiers. CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers This was the year of the 3rd Phase. We did well in our group, being able to tie the series' with Honduras and the United States. It was enough to book a spot in the 4th and final phase, due to start in February 2017. Friendlies Nothing too difficult in the friendlies. I've been letting my assistant handle the bookings, but I may take that over now to bring in opposition nations that will challenge us. Mikal
That's unlucky in the Champions League, a 3rd place would have been a great result. cerud
January 2017 Update sc Heerenveen - Eredivisie Eredivisie We handled the break well and came out refreshed and ready to play. Our two matches this month in the Eredivisie were against easier opposition in the league and didn't give us much problems. KNVB Beker Cup So...this is what humiliation feels like. We were horrible...disgusting. I ended up handing out 3 official warnings for poor performances, all to defensive players. This is a match that we should have won by a few goals. Instead, we are out of the KNVB Cup and no longer have a chance to defend our title. The Standings We've gained a couple more points to start opening up our lead. A 4 point lead now gives us a game in hand, which is a nice cushion. However, the league is now all that we have to play for, so will need to approach every single match with a 100% commitment. This squad have starte to go to sleep in a few matches and I'll need to ensure that this doesn't happen.

cerud
February 2017 Update sc Heerenveen - Eredivisie Eredivisie Our worst month of the season, even though for most other clubs, it wouldn't be too bad. Our performance against FC Den Bosch was horrible. We were massively outplayed and complacent. However, we pulled it together for a couple of solid wins and a tie against Vitesse. The tie was lucky as, again, we were outplayed, only able to steal a goal after Vitesse went down to 10 men. The Standings Still hanging onto a 3 point lead at the top of the table. The season is rapidly coming to a close; however, we still have 9 matches to go. Anything had happen as those clubs behind us are hungry and used to finishing higher. cerud
2 March 2017 Sevilla Table Offer for Cerud With the sc Heerenveen manager's contract up at the end of the season, La Liga club Sevilla have formally approached the talented manager. Heerenveen is the current league leaders in the Eredivise; whereas Seville is in the middle of the La Liga table. The move would catapult Cerud into the top eschelon's of European football. However, there has been no statement as to whether it will be accepted. It is known that any decision has been postponed until the end of the current season. cerud
CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers 18 March 2017 4th Phase United States of America 4 - 4 Canada This was definitely a match for the neutrals. The final 23 minutes saw 5 goals likely had a crowd near a heart attack. Still, we pulled off a tie against one of the more difficult nations in the group. 23 March 2017 4th Phase Canada 0 - 1 Jamaica Jamaica went up early and we were just not able to hit back. We actually dominated the second half, but the red card for Doneil Henry made things difficult. The standings after 3 games are: Mexico - 9 pts. Jamaica - 6 pts. Canada - 4 pts. United States of America - 4 pts. Cuba - 3 pts. Bahamas - 0 pts. Sitting in 3rd place, the final quaranteed qualification place, but we still have to play Mexico. All nations also play each other twice, so lots can change.

cerud
March 2017 Update sc Heerenveen - Eredivisie Eredivisie Took care of business this month; however, we let in a few more goals than normal. Often, the goals we're letting in are 30 yard blistering shots. These long bomb "Hail Mary" sort of goals are beginning to annoy me, but at least we're winning. I guess I can't complain too much. The Standings We've increased our lead to 5 points now and have won qualification for the Europa League. A couple more wins and that should turn into the Champions League. However, my mind has been drifting to other opportunities. I think that it's time for me to move on to a new challenge at the end of the season. I have the Sevilla job lined up if I want it. I also have seen many news stories list me as the main contender for quite a few other jobs though, so I may hold off. I'm not too sure yet, but I have a little time to figure it all out. After that though, open season! The end of the season would be a good time to go. Another close finish, for a bigger job I'd wait until the end of the season to look around. Yep. Fantastic league form- you've already got one hand on the trophy! I think Sevilla would be a good move, a step-up, but not a huge step-up. Sevilla is definitely a bigger club in a bigger league. They have Europa success and were dominant in La Liga in the 2000s. It would be a move up, but just not sure if I should hold out for other options. The league is looking excellent, and what a way to bow out if you can retain the league title! I'm thinking the same thing. If you want new challenge then go for Sevilla Cheers! Your looking good for the title cerud, Sevilla is tempting but I would stay at Heerenveen after all your hard work with them. When I started this career, I stated throughout that all decisions would try to mirror what I would do in that situation. I've already make the decision to move. It's just a matter of where. I can understand the desire of others to stay, but in order to grow, the club would need to do more than just expand the stadium. It took me almost 3 years to get them to expand by 2 000 seats. They need at least 10 000+ more seats for real growth and to challenge in Europe. I'm not hanging arond for 20 years for that to finally happen. cerud
2016-2017 Season in Review sc Heerenveen - Eredivisie 1st Place - League Champions The League Standings | Past Positions | Fixtures - Winners! Well, it wasn't the undefeated season of last year, but it was enough to defend our Eredivisie title. Ajax pushed us right to the second last match. However, we took that we and were able to go out and relax in our final match. The Cups KNVB Beker Cup - There were a few problems this year for us. NAC Breda almost took us out. In the end, a quarter final finish was the best we could do, but that was enough for our Board. Johan Cruijff Schaal - Winners! This minor, season opening competition was a great way to begin. It also marks the first time the club has won this particular trophy. UEFA Champions League - Our first time in the Champions League was forgettable. We won our first match against Besiktas and that was it. However, our group was a difficult one and our position is to be expected. The Stats Goals Scored: 92 (-4 from last season, 1st in league) Goals Conceded: 22 (-5 from last season, 3rd in league) Average Attendance: 25 998 (+180 from last season, 4th in league) The Players Squad | Transfers - Almost $8M was made in the transfer market this season. The squad also got quite a bit younger. These players are developing well and I'm confident the squad will strengthen as they gain in experience. Alexander Büttner - D/WB/M/AM L - One of the top players in the league, Büttner has been a dominant force on the left wing. His assists show his comtribution as well as quite a few goals. Carlos Botero - AM RL, ST - Botero took a while to come to life in his first year with us; however, once he did, he quickly became our go to striker. Was 2nd in scoring for the league. Michael Chacón - AM C, ST - At 23 years old, Chacón is already listed as a legend for the club. He is the marquee player that the next 10 years will be built around. The Backroom Finances - A much better year! The club is swimming in money due to the CHampions League. Facilities - We have upgrades to the stadium capacity and the training and youth facilities coming this summer. The Awards Eredivisie Topscorer - Carlos Botero - 2nd Place Talent van het jaar (Talent of the Year) - Ricardo Pastrana - 1st Place Keeper van het jaar (Goalkeeper of the Year) - Thomas Kaminski - 2nd Place Fans' Player of the Year - TBD The Goals Revisited Win the Eredivisie - Achieved. Consecutive league titles. Make Final of KNVB Beker Cup - Failed. Only made the quarter finals this time. Make group stage of UEFA Champions League - Achieved. We actually automatically qualified for this level, which was nice. Make a profit - Achieved. Money! Plans for Next Season Heerenveen have offerred a new contract at $675 000, which is a significant raise. However, I'm pretty set at moving on. Right now, Seville is the only concrete offer, but I'm waiting to see what else may come. I do expect to be managing domestically for next season, but till then, I have Canadian matches to get ready for!
cerud
27 May 2017 Heerenveen Shopping for New Manager sc Heerenveen has put out notice for a new manager now that Cerud has ended the speculation and stepped down as the club's top boss. Cerud has led the club to two consecutive league titles in the Eredivisie, as well as a KNVB Beker Cup and a JC Schaal. There is a known offer on the table from La Liga side Seville; however, Cerud remains closed as to his plans for the future. He did take a few questions earlier today, stating: "While I know many will wonder why I have chosen to leave Heerenveen after our success, the time is ready for a new challenge. I am confident of the club's stature and squad. They have the ability to remain a dominant force in Dutch football for a long time" Well, I have seen out my contract with sc Heerenveen and the time is right to move on. I have the Seville contract offer looming, but I'm not sure if I should take it or wait until the annual managerial change that occurs in June and July and see what is available then. However, I have World Cup qualifiers to think about first. Club play will come after that. Managerial Club Record Plans I'll start club shopping soon. First, I got Canadian matches to prepare for! cerud
CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers 31 May 2017 4th Phase Mexico 2 - 1 Canada The last time we played Mexico, they beat us 7-1. At least this was a better score. However, we were simply no match for them. 6 June 2017 4th Phase Canada 6 - 0 Bahamas The Bahamas are getting killed by every nation in this phase, so I was expecting the same. I also gave a few players their first cap that they didn't disappoint. David Cristallini showed he deserved to be here with a hattrick to celebrate his first cap and Simon Thomas with a clean sheet in his first Canadian performance. The standings after 5 games are: Mexico - 15 pts. Jamaica - 12 pts. Canada - 7 pts. United States of America - 7 pts. Cuba - 3 pts. Bahamas - 0 pts. We are at the halfway mark with everyone playing each other once. So far, we're in a good position, but with the United States only behind on goal difference. Mikal
Mexico Looking good in the qualifiers, surprised Jamaica have picked up so many points. Is it the top two to qualify? Excellent showing in the league as well, a perfect way to end your career there.
deltablue
Only narrowly lost to Mexico so might get something important at home.

Excellent showing in the league as well, a perfect way to end your career there. Thanks, Mikal. The top 3 automatically qualify. The 4th place finisher goes into the Hex, a playoff between the CONCACAF 4th place finisher and lower finishers from Oceania, Asia, and South America. There's a quick 4 nation playoff and the winner qualifies. Only narrowly lost to Mexico so might get something important at home. Here's hoping! cerud
9 July 2017 Benfica Approach Cerud Benfica, one of the largest clubs in Portugal, have reached a deal with Cerud to take over management of the illustrious club. Cerud, recently unemployeed after leaving Dutch side sc Heerenveen, is believed to have applied for the vacant Tottenham job. However, David Moyes has been hired there. Benfica were quick to move in and secure a two year deal with the Canadian born manager in the hopes that he can recreate his success from the Netherlands in Portugal. Benfica - Liga ZON SAGRES I have signed a two year deal for $875 000. I had applied for vacant positions with Tottenham and Nuremburg, but wasn't successful. However, Benfica approaches me with an offer and I couldn't say no such a prestigious club. About the Club Founded in 1904, Benfica is known as one of the Três Grandes, or Big Three clubs of Portugal, which also included FC Porto and and Sporting CP. Benfica's support is widespread; the club acutally hold the Guiness World Record for most registered fan members. They have been widely successful, winning seventy titles overall. Benfica is also the richest club in Europe outside of the five major European leagues. I wish their corporate facilities were better so I could receive better sponsorship deals, but it should be fine. Here is the Estádio da Luz.

A new season and a new club. I know that I'm aimin high with my goals, but this is a club that should be aiming high.
