The FM13 Version of the Data Editor

Evening.

I was wondering if someone could tell me if the editor files be compatible when used together? Or will we find the unique ID no.s of created competitions cause them to crash, like they did on FM12?

Also, will it be possible to create Apertura and Clausura stages this year?

(I did ask Miles via Twitter, but he pointed me in the direction of this forum)

Thanks.

If you follow the instructions in that thread you can give competitions a fixed Unique ID therefore stopping potential clashes when using other files.

No features have been announced regarding the FM13 editor though, and these will be unlikely to be announced at all if what Miles has said before is true. We'll have to wait until the game comes out first.

Oh really? That's more encouraging than I'd thought.

Of course, finding the possibly 3,000 failed changes might prove a challenge. I wish there was an easier way to find them than looking at all the entries with more than 0 changes and then looking at that list of checkmarks for each entry and then having your eyes cross as you try to find the one box that isn't checked.

It would be easier if the failed changes either had an x in the box or the text was red.

In FM12, I also made a lot of DB-changes. But I've automated them... sort of.

For a city, I'd add one city manually with tha basic database and save the file. That way, I can see what changes are made in creating a city. The lines in the .xml-file are copied into an Excel-file, and with some formulas I can create as much cities as I like, providing I know the necessary parameters.

Copy the lines in the Excel-file into the .xml-file inwhich the first created city is described, save it as an .xml-file and load it into the editor.

That way, I've saved myself a lot of time editing the database for the Dutch football pyramid. One big problem with this m.o. is that an error is easily made and when that happens, it's difficult to spot the error.

That sounds like a great time saver. May I ask how you managed to achieve it? I've been looking at time saving ways to entering new cities, generic stadiums and the like as the manual way of doing it is very time consuming.

Very simple, really. Just add one city manually in the database, and then save the changes in a .xml-file. You can open the .xml-file in Notepad (or similar programs).

Detect the changes you made in the file (like UID, city-name, coördinates, number of inhabitants, etc.) and remember them.

Copy the content of the .xml-file to an Excel worksheet. When you know what parameters are added/changed, you can easily change them for other cities.

You have to do your homework though. You have to have another Excel-sheet in which alle the parameters of all the cities you want to add are filled.

If you have that, you can copy those parameters with simple formulas into the lines of the .xml-file.

When you're finished, copy the lines into a blank Notepad-file and save them as a .xml-file. In the editor, you can load that .xml-file and if you've done the things correctly, all the cities are inserted.

Same procedure with stadiums, competitions, teams and even teamcolours. It can even be done with people, but I've never done that.

As said, it takes a lot of preparation to pull this off, but is saves a heap of time.

When you have 1000+ cities to add, and 2000+ teams, I feel my way of putting data into the editor can make the difference in playing with my own database before Christmas or well after.

But you're right obviously, if you don't have much data to add, it's best to do this in the editor itself.

I have probably 30-50 to add. If its more than 100 I would be looking to do the same as you!

I do think the editor needs the ability to make templates to help add cities etc, teams etc - where you can lock in certian data for every city and other data is editable in a simple wizard. I use the clone feature a lot to make multiple teams. Gets confusing though.
