ViG1980
Pre-ordered FM, can't wait. Now that that is out of the way, my question is more about which OS to play the game on. I won a Mac but also work in in Windows on it for work so bootcamp is all set up. Is there any difference in the game if I start my game on OSX compared ti Win7? Will it run as well, are the graphics and interfaces all exactly the same? I remember a couple of years ago the game was a little different on OSX and did not seem to run quite as fast. Is this still the case? Cheers!
nine_iron
I think the benchmarking thread showed PCs to be better
Super Bladesman
But if he's on a Mac already, it's not about PCs - it's a straight choice between OSX and Windows. I'd expect things to run a little quicker in OSX, personally. I'm sure you could install it in both via Steam and then compare.
ViG1980
Ah - thanks - searched and found the thread. A shame that the game is more optimized for the PC although I guess that is normal!
ViG1980
Good point bladesman, I guess I will have to give it a try on both and see.
Seismica
In a direct comparison between a PC and a Mac, PC wins hands down simply because that is the primary platform that the game is developed on. It won't be as well optimised for the Mac. But between OSX and bootcamp i'd say OSX, because the operating system is optimised for the hardware. The Mac version of FM will be designed for OSX. I'm not 100% sure on what Bootcamp does, whether it emulates Windows from within OSX, or whether it's like booting a different operating system like you can do with Linux on a PC. If it's the former, go with OSX. If it's the latter, test it for yourself. If you buy the PC/Windows version on Steam, is the Mac version included? ViG1980
Yep - it's included. THanks for the input. I think testing myself is the answer unless someone else has already tested or SI can give some insight!
Fatman
I could never get fm2012 to run under bootcamp...
Welshace
you're on a mac... use OSX..
Gandy
It runs fine on OSX. I had a four year old Mac running FM11, it went decently. Didn't run as smoothly with Bootcamp.
Wanson
I've played on both windows using bootcamp and OSX (on the same mac) and there is no discernible difference in gameplay or speed. If you are using a mac then I would just stick to OSX. Bootcamp is a hassle and Parallels / VM fusion software and the like take up half of your system's resources.
