Do updates affect old saves?

I imagine match engine ones will have too but other balancing issues maybe even database ones do they take effect?

Is there anything else that even needs fixing other than the match engine? (that isn't a bug)

I wouldn't normally starting a thread over something so trivial but I am debating whether I should start a main save now or if issues other than the match engine won't change with updates (also I'm kind of asking are the issues outside of the match engine that aren't bugs?)

It was never an issue and shouldn't be one this year as well.

Any data changes will require you to start again but match engine updates will not affect your current save.

no affect as in it is the same match engine I started with

or no affect as in it won't require me to start a new save, and I have the fixed version,

As far as I can remember the only changes in FM that have ever required a new save are alterations to the database. I imagine it's unlikely that that will suddenly change.

I think any that any change to the league rules needs a new game as these are set up at the beginning of the game. But ME changes, and most other changes are save game compatible.
