Newcastle Fantastic succes with 4-1-3-1-1

Recommended Posts

After a struggling start to season 1 using the tried and tested 4-4-2 and occasionally 4-3-3 I was 2 points above relegation...

Purely by chance and injuries for a cup game I played 4-1-3-1-1

Standard back 4 LB, CB, CB, RB

with Tiote as DMC in front of them

and then 3 CM's all in the middle , between cabaye, anita, marvaux, spiderman and gosling.

with ben arfa in the center just in the omc role in front of that

and because the game instantly sells Ba no matter what you do I played Cisse on his own up front.

4-1-3-1-1

After moving to this formation I went on a 26 game unbeaten run including 23 wins.

Any newcastle team players out there really need to try this formation out.. it worked wonders for me.

Anymore info? What team instructions do you use? Control or attacking, fluid or rigid?

Also you said 3 CM's. Did you retrain Jonas and Marveaux to play in the position or do you just play them out of position?

I'll check to be 100% sure tonight and post a reply... but offhand I played a mixture of attacking for home games and counter for away games with a ballanced approach...

Yep I initially played jonas and marvaeux out of position on either the left or right side of the 3 in the middle and surprisingly they still play well and after a few games my coaches offered to retrain them. .. can't remember how successfull the retraining was after 1 season but regardless they actually played better out of position than they did on the wing for me.

when I rest tiote at dmc play anita there as well.

Yep.. well first thing I guess is that I always try to be calm... EG the dressing room talk..... only time I make it passionate is against either top 4 sides or sunderland etc.

I did notice I tried a couple of times just telling them to relax and the result will come and they seemed to like that and play well.......

Changes in game obviously depends on the match and how it plays out but I try to change 1 MC usually whoever is the most unfit by about the 60th minute, or the worst rating if someone is having an off game.

and I always sub the lone striker at 75mins for whoever was on the bench... milevski or ameobi.... or if milevski was playing then bring on cisse.

The pic formation above is the home one . . away games I change the mentality to counter attacking but pretty much stick to the formation and players...

what about OI or MP?

Give it a try with Vitesse (Netherlands)

sorry whats, OI and MP. ? I'm not up to date with the quick reference terms.

I'm hoping this formation helps others out in their games... it worked for me but obviously I can't be sure it will work for everyone.

One thing I did notice was once my teams morale was all superb or close to superb my team seemed unbeatable for a while.....

Opposition Instructions and Match Preperation :)

Ah right,, I see now... thanks!

To be honest I pretty much ignore the Opposition Instructions, unless I see they are playing 1 up front then I highlight them and do the obvious of 'marking tight' and 'show onto weaker foot' for that lone striker. That way it seems to force them to have a lot of long shots and with a keeper like Krul , he tends to do well at long shots.

Match prep, I'll check tonight to be 100% but I believe I set it to "tactics" and i've left it at that right from the start .
