Cycstorm
So, I just finished my third season with Arsenal. First season I finished 4th, second season I finished 4th and won the FA Cup. This last season my team pulled off some magic and went 30+ games unbeaten to win the Premier League, the League Cup, and the FA Cup (I lost the CL semi-final on penalties to Barcelona). At the same we got taken over by a "Gloucestershire based tycoon..." I don't know if this guy is an Abramovich type or what because after the takeover was complete he only put 5 million pounds into the club. Thus far I have kept very good control of the wages. Podolski, who was there when I got there is the top earner on 100k p/w. A handful of my best players are on 80-something k p/w, a few more on 70-something k p/w and everybody else, the vast majority, are on less than that. Now, the problem is that 2/3 of my squad have contracts that expire in 2 years and I want to tie them down to the club and push on. Practically everybody is demanding double the wages that they are currently on plus a ridiculous amount in appearance fees, agents fees and bonuses. Francis Coquelin, whose wages I have offered to nearly double from 25k p/w to 45k p/w, is asking for 90k p/w bumped up to 135k p/w after ONE international cap... Some players want an enormous increase in wages while not actually extending the length of the contract any... What are the players reacting to here? Is it the takeover? Because I have not seen evidence that this guy actually has any real money yet. Or is it the fact that we've just jumped massively in stature in such a short period of time? Surely as a player They should realize that this is the time to commit to a club that is genuinely going places. Would a player really walk into my office and say: "Right Boss, I know we've just won the treble and only missed out on the CL final by penalties, and I know I'm getting lots of regular football here, but if you don't more than double my wages overnight I'm going to sod off to Man City who just finished 6th!"? haunted1234
try offering em a fixed release amount, usually they go way down on the wage then
Richard76
try offering em a fixed release amount, usually they go way down on the wage then You mean a minimum release clause?
Herbert Fandel
Yeh, also relegation clause, IF you are Arsenal you can safely offer them a relegation release clause of £0 without fearing coming a cropper. Setting a min fee of what you would consider may also work, but perhaps at Arsenal the min fee clause would have to be set higher than what the player considers useful, so I would be very wary, especially of it changing between negotiation rounds without you noticing. Relegation release clause for sure.
mixmkz
Yeah for Coquelin he earns 45k a week now after I gave him a 200mm release clause plus some goal bonus, top scorer bonus, and team of the year bonus he will never reach. Also helps to give them intl cap bonus, because if you think about offering them 10k - 20k per cap, even if they reach 100 cap in their life time that is 1mm to 2mm you are shelling out over their life time. When I renewed Wilshere's contract I had him at 95k a week. One advice for Arsenal is that you must forgo the board / Wenger's method of giving salaries. If the player is important to the team such as Wilshere and Ramsey (in the game), they deserve to earn close to or over 100k a week.
Cycstorm
Wow, guys, that's fantastic. I never realized that trick about the minimum release clause had such a big effect. I decided to let a few of the older players who would be ~32 when their contracts were up dangle for a bit. Oscar, Jack Wilshere and David Alaba bent me over a little bit for appearance fees, but on the whole I think I came out on top. Blanket 80 million minimum release across the board, and no one, NO ONE got a three-figure p/w deal (Wilshere got 99k). Thanks so much for the tip. Cycstorm
Also, Aaron Ramsey is the most reasonable man on the face of the Earth - a Five year deal, and all he wants is a straight 20k p/w bump in his wages, which were modest to begin with. Signed! Good luck out there, young man!
RobertPage
Personally i think there is just generally a problem with offering players new contracts. They will request very high wages and if you refuse to give in to their demands and sell the player then they will go off to another club on wages much lower than they were demanding. Cycstorm
In: Falcao (At. Madrid to Arsenal) 25 million pounds. Out: Lukas Podolski (Arsenal to At. Madrid) 10 million pounds. Falcao is on 135k p/w Podolski was on 100k p/w Very nice.

I think some of the time its fine though. You look key players of the other teams such as Terry, Messi, Rooney etc even if they stay with their team their salary are enormous just because if they are so important. That's how I justify playing some of my player 100k + salaries. I have Cavani (135k), Neymar (105k), Fellanini (105k), Wilshere (98k), Ramsey (80k). Squad players on the other hand, I just flip them for a profit.
