March 2028 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

On the European front, this was an outstanding month, but we oscillated between amazing and woeful domestically, with nothing in between. Levante were put to the sword in the first match of the month before a car-crash at Sevilla where we couldn't handle an average right-winger who grabbed a hat-trick for them. We saw off Porto comfortably in the home leg - always love beating them after that shock exit with Roma! Then came the real horror show away at lowly Vallodolid. They had two decent shots and scored both of them, whilst we wasted chance after chance after chance. As if to annoy me even more, we then created comparatively little against Numancia, yet everything went in! Happily, we rounded off the month with a fantastic win over long-time rivals PSG with youngsters Dierickx and Fejzic each grabbing a brace. Just shows, PSG can buy everyone they want from Rennes, but they still can't beat me :D. Annoyingly though, our advantage in the league is gone and we're back to who blinks first.

Player of the Month

Last month was one new boy's golden moment, this month belongs to the other: Raymond Dierickx is getting better and better and the ex-Lokeren lad has come a long way in a short space of time. Could use a bit more mental strength, but he causes havoc when he cuts inside and should only improve.

Youth Intake 2028 - FC Barcelona

intake28stars_zps4102bf11.png

As always, the ratings change a little once they sign a contract and are rated by the world-class Scout turned Assistant Manager, so that's why they differ. The HOYD rated Juan Alberto as one of the best of his generation, but missed out on the true star of the intake. Here are the top few:

pedro_zps73c68001.pngjuanalberto_zpsdd23c1e8.pngmatsinhe_zps3edea867.pngmartinek_zps99852daf.png

Striker Pedro is the class act coming through this time around, and looks like he could become a top goalscorer with a bit of work on his mentals and physicals. Centre mid Juan Alberto should be a nice deep-lying playmaker when we're done with him, but that Flair needs a serious boost. Winger Matsinhe probably won't make it, mostly because I don't use wingers, but he needs a lot of work on key mental stats in any case and I'm not a fan of anyone with 3 for finishing and 1 for passing! Finally we have Czech anchorman Martinek, who looks a decent long-term rotation option at holding mid.

Overall, quite pleased :)

April 2028 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

apr28_zps7ab1aa0f.png

Given that we were aiming high on two fronts, there was always likely to be a few jitters! We cruised past Osasuna, put PSG back in their box (LOVE beating them) and grabbed a crucial away win at Bilbao before the inexplicable loss to Granada. Granted, they're doing well, but we were poor and handed the initiative right back to Madrid, who went and lost to Sporting! We then welcomed old club Roma and went 2-0 up before they had a man sent off. Obviously, they then went and scored through Contento to make the second leg a very daunting prospect. Next up, the team blazed past Zaragoza before an almighty performance in Rome saw two goals from Franca put us through to the Champions League final, where we will meet Juventus. All these old adversaries are just coming at once it seems. A comfortable win over Villarreal saw out the month, but Madrid responded by doing what we could not and winning in Granada. So, here's the table, but that only tells half the story.

So, what are the last games, I hear you cry?

Not good.

Player of the Month

In the league, Fejzic has pretty much been the only thing keeping our heads above water - another month of performances like this and I will be delighted!

May 2028 - FC Barcelona

As with last year, it seems to make sense to do this all match by match:

Game 37: vs Real Betis (H)

With the rules in Spain dictating that head-to-head results are the means to separate teams on even points and the gap between ourselves and Real being at best 3 points, this was essentially a dead rubber. Still, we wanted to go into the biggest match of the season on decent form. An early long ranger from midfielder Govier settled the nerves, and four further goals before half-time made sure of the result. In the second half, we played keep-ball to maintain fitness levels and, bar a consolation from Betis, nothing really happened. Elsewhere, Real drew 2-2 at Villarreal... not that it changes anything.

may28_1_zps4d70ec0d.png

Game 38: vs Real Madrid (A)

Our two-point lead meant nothing here, we had to draw or win to claim the title. Real, as followers of this thread will know, are above even PSG as my arch-rivals, with my Roma side having lost to them twice in Champions League finals. Still, my best ever result (I think...) was against them with Rennes when we smashed them 4-0 in a Champions League Quarter Final out of nowhere.

The question was this: Attack, and aim to grab a goal but potentially leave ourselves vulnerable; or defend, and invite the pressure? I went with the attacking option, and it was rewarded nine minutes in, with young striker Dierickx finding space inside the area to rifle home a low shot. Then came their response, with right winger Gabriel having a long shot and their inside forward Peluso forcing a great stop from ter Stegen. We made it to half-time at 1-0 and went into the second half full of encouragement. Ten minutes in and it should have been 2-0, but their keeper produced a great save to deny Fejzic. They had a few late shots, but we shut up shop and saw the rest of the game out. Barcelona had won La Liga!

Well that was a bit close! Good news is that we have a third successive Champions League final to come - against Juventus this time.

Juventus' run to the final

clrunjuve28_zpse6a93a04.png

Odds: Barcelona 2-1 (fav), Juventus 11-2

For the first time in ages, we go into a Champions League final as favourites. We were touted to win it from the beginning (surprisingly, I thought), but now that we're here and facing an average Juventus side, I'd back us. Then again, they knocked out Spurs and Real, so they can't be that bad! We've warmed our way into the tournament nicely, with the obvious highlight the mauling we handed out to PSG. In terms of the line-ups, Juve have sprung a surprise by going to 3-5-2, probably due to the absence of playmaker Fortina. There are a few decent players there: Buchwald is a strong CM, Bekevac a decent striker and all three CBs are excellent, but we should be stronger. We use the tried and tested 4-3-3, with the only shock being the omission of playmaker Nehuen Miguel, sacrificed to allow Dal Maso to play in order to win the midfield battle. Indeed, Dal Maso, Dierickx and Fejzic (and myself) are looking to win the Champions League back-to-back with different clubs - aiming to join an elite of Desailly, Paolo Souza and Samuel Eto'o...

clfinal28lineups_zps47396fd5.png

Straight from kick-off, we pass the ball around the back four neatly, and it's good to get everyone a touch on the ball. That is, until Marjanovic plays a suicide pass to Linares, who's under pressure from Bekevac on the edge of the area. For some reason, ter Stegen comes out to make the situation ten times worse and Bekevac slots past him into an empty net. 1-0 Juventus! A few minutes on though and things are looking up, Fejzic winning a header to knock on to Franca, but the striker's shot is well blocked. Bad news follows though as midfielder Dal Maso has to leave the pitch injured, with Miguel taking his place. From the restart, we work the ball down the left and Dierickx skips past a challenge to cross. They clear the ball, but only to Morin, who lays a nice pass into Franca, who smashes into the bottom corner from just inside the area. 1-1! A quiet midfield battle ensues for the next fifteen minutes, then we work the ball out to Dierickx again on the left hand side. He cuts in and plants a cross right on Fejzic's head, but their keeper is equal to it and tips the ball over. We're putting on all sorts of pressure now, with Guaita seeing a free-kick saved, then Dierickx nodding straight at keeper Contri from 5 yards. 4 minutes later, and another corner. Miguel flights it in, but it's headed straight back to Pablo Morin, who exchanges passes with the Argentine before ignoring every instruction and letting fly from fully 30 yards, and the ball curls beautifully into the top right hand corner - what a goal! 2-1 Barcelona! Juve are well and truly on the ropes now, and we have a golden chance just before half time as Franca sends Miguel through one-on-one, but the Argentine has a rush of blood to the head, smashing the ball well over.

Juventus have come out fighting in the second half, with left mid Kim Hoon (ex-Charlton!) firing just wide from the restart. They soon force a corner, but we counter quickly with Flamel nodding out to Franca. He switches play to the onrushing Miguel, who dinks a cross to striker Fejzic. His shot on the turn though is saved low down by Contri. You feel we need that extra goal, all the more so when their right mid skins Marjanovic to hit a shot low into the side netting. From a deep free-kick though, we work the ball to Marjanovic on the edge of the box. He cuts it back to Dierickx, who in turn cuts it back to Franca, who calmly sidefoots home from 10 yards. 3-1 Barcelona! Juve are trying to press now, with sub Rodrigo Guerra hitting a long shot just over, but they can't really create anything much. On 86 minutes, Fejzic nods in a corner and the game is well and truly up. 4-1 Barcelona! The final whistle went, and Barcelona were European Champions!!!

And in the aftermath, two new records (apologies to AK22 for the second if he's reading...)

An exceptional total given that he had the first month out injured!

Well done, I thought you was going to blow it :D But to win it at your rivals does make it exciting  Good luck against Juve

Yeah, I may pretend I was confident the whole way along, but I was sure we were going to put in another toothless away performance like at Granada, Betis, Sevilla, Valladolid or Osasuna... Certainly something to work on!

They might have sold top star Malov to Real Madrid for a cool £43m, but it doesn't show! Great performance again from them, it's a shame they just lost out to Dortmund 1-0 in the final after good wins over Panathinaikos, Sparta Prague, Lazio and Shakhtar.

Brilliant win against Juve

Cheers, was quite comfortable really - I'm surprised they made it there as they didn't pose my Roma side much of a threat in the last few seasons.

Yesssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Winning the league in Madrid as well!

I know, couldn't have been scripted better. I was cursing the fixtures computer in March/April though!

Fantastic end to the year there! Must have been ******** bricks during the Madrid game, but did it easy against Juve.

Haha, I was until we kicked off. With the way I play you tend to work out within ten minutes if it's going to be win or bust

Summer 2028 - FC Barcelona

Long-term aims

Other than winning multiple titles etc, there are a few of my career aims that I think can be crossed off at Barcelona. The first aim is to have an entirely Spanish XI and win the league with them. Barcelona have some incredible facilities, and I see no reason why we can't incorporate youth players into the side easily (at least one per year, surely). Consequently, you will also see the YP tags introduced, with a separate post to follow. I will be allowing players with dual nationalities to qualify though, and some of my young signings are made with this in mind. It should certainly add a bit more challenge to this project at Barcelona!

Transfers - players out

There was certainly much less of a rebuilding job needed this summer and in fact nobody comes in who will make the first team any time soon. A lot of players were released and there was only one major-ish departure in CB Robertinho, who hasn't really had much of a look-in ahead of the outstanding Flamel and Linares. He leaves for Chelsea for a fee of £17m, a fee that I think we've done well to get.

Transfers - players in

transfersin28_zps24a83ce2.png

Ok, so there's a lot of players joining for quite a lot of money when you consider the eldest is just 20. I spent a lot of time scouting and re-scouting though and I'm convinced we've found a selection of great prospects.

  • Camilo Martinez - needs work on mentals and physicals, but looks very promising as an attacking MC.
  • Gaspar Jiménez - he cost a lot, but I see him as the destroyer in our future CB partnership. We'll make him quicker first, then work on the technical side.
  • Carlos Bilbao - I have massively overpaid here, with Athletic being most unhelpful, but when you have a budget of £156m, you might as well spend it somewhere. Hopefully it helps Athletic improve too as I like them as a club. As for Carlos, he's two-footed and could be a really good cultured CB in the future.
  • Yerout Santana - Young, cheap and has decent potential. Hopefully I can develop him and then use him as squad rotation as I don't think he'll threaten the first team.
  • Enrique Santamaria - Another product of the Bilbao factory, he looks a good MC, and I think I'll train him as a DLP. Like with Santana, should make a decent rotation option.
  • Miguel Ángel Morcillo - Our final CB option comes from Rostock, and Morcillo looks great. Obvious areas to strengthen are Jumping and Passing, and I think he'll end up being the rotation option out of the three we've acquired.

Transfers - Future players in

futuretransfers28_zpsd1e8d07f.png

This is where I lost track a bit, sealing a few deals that perhaps could overcrowd things. We looking particularly overstocked in the MC department, with the three Brazilians signed before I decided to go Spanish... They will probably get trained up and then sold.

  • Fumaca - Naturally very talented and I'm even toying with the idea of retraining him to another position to provide an option there. Thoughts?
  • Flavio - I like this lad as a playmaker and I'm intrigued to see how he develops.
  • Julio Cesar - I'm very tempted to make him a LB, he's certainly quick enough and there's a real dearth of talent in that position.
  • Richard Paredes - Of Paraguayan descent, the Argentine will provide immediate backup to LB Marjanovic. Could be world-class.
  • Joel Mur - The Spanish Frank Lampard? I think so... Will probably be retrained as a Treq.
  • Carlos Quinteros - The final one in an overloaded MC spot, he already has some decent mental stats and doesn't have any stupid 'wasted' attributes - i.e. Heading with low Jumping, Long Throws etc. An early personal favourite.

So, there we are. Lots to ponder and a huge number of potential stars ready to fight it out for future starting spots. The good news is that they won't have too long to wait as the vast majority of the squad are pushing 30. CBs Flamel (29) and Linares (31) won't last forever and should allow Jimenez and Bilbao well-timed experience. Current centre-mids Miguel (31) and Govier (32) are nearing the end of their tether, although in Hermann (19) we probably already have one of those spots sealed. Up front, life is quite straightforward: Dierickx, Fejzic and Buelhoa will be the bedrock for the next few years, and I'll add youth product Pedro into the mix in a few years once Franca (31) has retired. Youngster Olivari is also being retrained as a SC for the Trequartista role.

FC Barcelona - the La Masia graduates

I know, I know, La Masia has now shut its doors. Shhhh...

Whilst the foreigners may come and go, Barcelona has always been a local club, and these guys (I hope) will form the cornerstones of our future success.

YP1aug28_zps2a963f65.png

Teixidor was languishing in the U19s without a purpose when I arrived and he's already made some excellent progress. He's currently being tutored by Pablo Morin, which has worked wonders for the mental side of his game. He still needs to improve First Touch and Passing if he is to make it in the Holding mid role, but Composure is the current focus. As for PPMs, I plan to have him play simple passes and that be about it!

Chance of making the first team: 50%

YP2aug28_zpsfb7e3b7f.png

As we saw, Pedro was the star of last year's recruits, and has really kicked on already since being tutored by Barcelona legend Dean Moncur. This has resulted in him picking up three excellent PPMs: Places shots, Plays One-Twos and Tries First Time Shots. He has worked on his Quickness for the first three months and now moves to working on his Jumping. Future work will focus around the Deep-Lying Forward role, to improve his Creativity, Flair and Passing, and I'll also aim to boost his technical skills.

Chance of making the first team: 70%

YP3aug28_zps8efb5a41.png

Juan Alberto also came through last year and is somehow still learning from Robert Goossen, who is now U19s manager at Vitoria Guimaraes... Interesting. He has picked up a few nice moves: Dictates Tempo and Likes To Switch Ball to Other Flank. Annoyingly, he is purely right-footed, which may hold him back. His current focus is the DLP role, aiming to bring up all of those 10s whilst building the Creativity and Decisions. Hopefully, the 5 silver stars means that there's lots of room left for development.

Chance of making the first team: 30%

YP4aug28_zps989ff116.png

The final tag goes to Czech holding mid Marek Martinek, who is learning from wizened Alessio Dal Maso, which has had a great effect on his development. No preferred moves yet, but a lot of progress, particularly in his mental attributes. He's currently working on the DM role, aiming to push the mental stats as much as we can before I start work on the creativity and passing skills required. He'll only ever do a very simple job, and it'll be interesting to see who does better out of him and Teixidor.

Chance of making the first team: 30%

August 2028 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

aug28_zpsc1bc1ebe.png

The league started early with a fixture away to Sporting that we navigated comfortably enough thanks to goals from newly-capped Buelhoa and CB Flamel. Then came the double-header against Real. We won the first game far more easily than the scoreline suggests, but the horror back-pass reared its head once more... In the second leg we dominated them, but somehow contrived to concede three soft, soft goals. Still, a win overall and a trophy I'm delighted to have. In the Super Cup we faced Dortmund, who edged out Charlton in the Europa League final. In all honesty, they weren't even close to us and 3-1 was just us coasting through the match. Finally, we rounded off the month with a 3-1 win in Zaragoza, with all three strikers getting on the scoresheet. A pleasing few games, certainly.

league_aug28_zps1d209adc.png

Player of the Month

I'm not quite sure what it is that makes him so good, but Flamel has been an absolute monster yet again! He easily plays as well as the legendary Rocco Gritti from Roma but I can't pick up what stats make him this good! Still, another month with few conceded and almost every header won means he gets this award, again.

Nice first season at Barca

I'm just wondering about your regens faces...are they an add on pack because they look quite detailed and different to mine.

Yeah there's a random extra hair pack kicking about somewhere in the EDT forum (http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/329131-RELEASE-OLT-Expanded-Hair-Pack-v3.0-The-Dress-Up-Edition?highlight=Expanded+Hair+pack) - it's a pretty good add-on actually :)

September 2028 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

sep28_zps19dab186.png

September is always a long month, but one we negotiated very well, with a string of wins to zero in La Liga and two good performances in the Champions League. The three performances towards the end of the month were the most pleasing - Sevilla aren't a bad outfit, indeed they defeated us last year at their ground. Porto also have a very strong side still and we did well to put four past them. Finally, a great win against a good Valencia side rounded off an excellent month.

Pedro becomes the first of our recent home-grown youngsters (in my time at least) to make the move up to senior team level, getting 25 minutes against Mallorca. He didn't do much, and it might have only been because every other striker was injured, but it's good to get the odd game in early.

Player of the Month

Another awesome month from Raymond, who is our go-to striker at the moment, grabbing goals left, right and centre. Keeps improving, too!

October 2028 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

oct28_zps9a533be5.png

We finally conceded our second goal in La Liga to lowly Girona of all teams - admittedly it was a very young Barca side, with the addition of Franca, who put them to the sword. Earlier in the month, we had powered past Atlético and Zenit before another young side took apart Getafe and we rounded off the month with a very professional performance away at Villarreal. Last month's draw and loss to Deportivo and Betis see Madrid already 5 points behind us, but hopefully we can just keep motoring on ourselves.

More debuts this month, with DM Teixidor (now rated by the Assistant as a 4* prospect - up from 2.5*!) and Juan Alberto (also up to 4*) both making their bows against Girona. Dunno what the line about Teixidor being unsettled is all about, there's nothing there at all. Both continue to develop well, and will post updated screenshots soon.

Same guy, same reasons - just awesome, and proof that his stats are still rising from last month alone!

December 2028 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

dec28_zps38cab82f.png

An excellent 2028 was rounded off with victory in the Club World Cup - although our defending against LA Galaxy was atrocious. Our excellent defence has suddenly started leaking goals, with Betis pushing us right to the edge in the first game of the month. A 2-0 lead was wiped out after I introduced 3 youngsters to the side, and it took a late Guaita strike to rescue the three points. Fejzic and Franca edged us past Sevilla in the first leg before the first Clasico. This proved a frustrating encounter; we dominated the match but fell behind to a Peluso sighter. Again, that man Fejzic saved us though with a late, late header. A great game though. Then came our jaunt to the other side of the world before we finished Sevilla off at home. Looking good in the league.

league_dec28_zpsc85f6315.png

Youth Products

The main benefactor this month was Joan Teixidor (YP1), who got a lot of games as a result of an injury to Pablo Morin. A couple of the guys also played in our matches in the CWC, whilst a few came on late in the Betis game. They're doing well but definitely not quite there yet!

Player of the Month

The great thing about this tactic is that one of our strikers usually steps up, and this month was Fejzic's turn. He's a brilliant all-rounder but plays the Target Man role particularly well. Just annoyed his Corners attribute keeps rising

January 2029 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

jan29_zpsdfc35655.png

The Copa del Rey somewhat took over this month, with four of the seven fixtures being cup ties. We negotiated a tricky tie with Atlético comfortably in the end and were lucky that the league matches allowed for a bit of rotation. Athletic took the lead in the La Liga match through a wonder strike, but a late first half strike from wily striker Dean Moncur put us back on track, with Hermann and Fejzic both notching late headers to win the game. Granada put up a great fight at the Nou Camp but couldn't match that at home, whilst Mallorca fell in the league to old hands Franca and Miguel. Another top month.

league_jan29_zpsf72d9511.png

Youth Products

Again, Teixidor (YP1) had a lot of matches this month because of that annoying injury to Morin. He's playing very well actually and we'll see shortly how much progress he has actually made. Also, you might have noticed that star youth striker Pedro (YP2) grabbed his first goal against Atletico with a great run and finish - I have high hopes for him!

Player of the Month

Nehuen has had a great month and is still holding off Bastian Hermann for the attacking CM slot - he's a crap tutor but does tend to step up well in big matches :D

Cesky Trener Roku

I only include this for its absurdity, and I'm tempted next year to make a challenge revolving around it. Given that I'm a good 3000 points clear of the next Czech manager, you'd be forgiven for thinking that this award would be to me what Wimbledon was to Borg or Sampras. Oh no... Far, far from it...

trener_roku_award_zps635a8714.png

Nothing to choose... must be a typo, given that Zizkov came 13th in a 16 team league and Brno came 2nd in the Czech second tier...

FC Barcelona - the La Masia graduates - January 2029 Update

Halfway through the season, we take a look at how the youngsters are progressing. Left hand screen was the start of the season, Right hand is now.

YP1aug28_zps2a963f65.pngYP1jan29_zps087dc062.png

All those games seem to be doing Teixidor some good. He's made good improvements on the physical side of his game and the focus on Composure seems to have done him well. Once that is completed, the focus will switch to First Touch and then Passing. After that, he'll probably move to the Deep Lying Playmaker role to push those attributes (along with his Creativity) up further. There's also a nice half star boost to his Potential, although I'm not totally convinced he's first team quality.

Chance of making the first team: 60% (+10%)

YP2aug28_zpsfb7e3b7f.pngYP2jan29_zps48362410.png

Whilst he's ripping up the U19s, his development has totally stalled over the last 5 months or so. He's now being tutored by Franca and a criticism of his training level should pick things up. Can't help but feel it's time wasted though. Same comments from last time stand - his current focus is Jumping, but you'd never know it.

Chance of making the first team: 60% (-10%)

YP3aug28_zps8efb5a41.pngYP3jan29_zps7c7a6d0b.png

A glance at the star ratings suggest that Juan Alberto has made great progress, and the attributes back that up. Most of his mentals have gone up by 1 point, with Creativity raising by 2. It's therefore a huge shame that he got injured on Spain U19 duty and will be out for 2 months with a dislocated shoulder. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off.

Chance of making the first team: 40% (+10%)

YP4aug28_zps989ff116.pngYP4jan29_zps8238fb55.png

The first thing again is that he's made huge strides according to the star ratings, with two levels of progress this period. All his physical work is pretty much done - he doesn't need to be much quicker, and it's great to see his Work Rate has gone up by two. Additionally, there has been good progress across most of his mental and key technical attributes, with any luck he can continue!

Chance of making the first team: 40% (+10%)

February 2029 - FC Barcelona

Champions League Draw

clknockout28_zpsef53871a.png

Very doable.

Fixtures

feb29_zps547dd80a.png

With the Cup out of the way until May's final with... you guessed it... Real, back to La Liga. This wasn't quite the flawless month it should have been due to a stupid oversight on my part. Ter Stegen has been out for a month or so now, so U19 keeper Domingo has taken over and done quite well. However, I forgot to remove him from the U19 squad, so come the 17th Feb, he was already in a match. Step up random grey keeper, who immediately lets in a 35 yarder and a 25 yarder. At least Buelhoa rescued a point for us, which was great given that Real were held 0-0 at home by Deportivo. Otherwise, we let rip in Greece, with youngster Pedro getting two goals - annoyingly, Buelhoa hadn't read the memo and took the penalty off him for his hat-trick. At the end of the month came a nail-biting clash with Valencia, who only had three shots, yet scored every one after some abysmal defending. Hopefully that's the last of those nightmares and now we can push on in the tougher games ahead.

league_feb29_zpsbbe07d18.png

Youth Products

The main news here was Pedro (YP2)'s first goals for the side in the Champions League tie with Panathinaikos. Otherwise, Teixidor has continued to have more first team action after impressing in the last few months.

Player of the Month

Somewhat surprisingly after an average month defensively, this goes to LB Marjanovic, who has been excellent and is always noticeable by his absence! He's no great attacking threat, but does counter-balance Guaita's rampaging down the right flank.

FC Barcelona - the La Masia graduates 2029

intake29_zps8037db99.png

Not an outstanding Youth Intake, but there's three here who earn tags.

YP5intake_zpsebf86f5c.png

Tomeu's potential has been changing between 3, 3 1/2 and 4 stars, so I'm confident he'll turn out well. LB is a position we need to strengthen, with no Spanish players anywhere near playing that role (current LB Marjanovic is French and incoming Paredes is Argentinian/Paraguayan), so long-term, this is a good player to get in. His mental stats aren't too bad for this age and all the important ones should be able to go up to at least 15 - I would hope... As always, a little work on Quickness first, then the Full Back role, and finally we'll improve First Touch and Passing. Also, he's already a Model Professional - get in!

Chance of making the first team: 60%

YP6intake_zps60105796.png

Sergio Díaz joins with a lot of centre mids in place already, so it's great that he has a number of positions he can play! He could eventually play the Trequartista role, but for the moment, we'll start by working on his Quickness, then focus on the Advanced Playmaker role to improve Creativity, Flair and Decisions. We'll see from there what we need. He's also strong on both feet (not quite Either footed though), but needs to develop well in the first year to push for that developmental first team spot.

Chance of making the first team: 30%

YP7intake_zpsbc00830c.png

Alberto comes with decent mental stats, but the lack of Concentration and Creativity is a slight concern. He's one-footed too, but that shouldn't hold him back. We need to start by working on the Physicals and see what comes from there.

Chance of making the first team: 30%

March 2029 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

mar29_zps32946aaa.png

A tricky away trip to Sevilla (Madrid would go on to lose here later in the month) was negotiated with ease. A reserve side plus Fejzic then saw off the return leg against Panathinaikos to hand us a tie with Rennes - the winners to meet either PSG or Man United. We should have beaten Atletico comfortably, but it seemed our strikers were playing crossbar challenge rather than actually trying to score... No such problem against Girona or Villarreal, which gave our Goal Difference a healthy boost. We then played our best match of the season against Rennes, and 4-1 flattered the French side, we created 8 clear chances, 5 half chances and should have probably scored 7. Still, we've put ourselves in a great position for the return leg. Finally, a visit to Deportivo posed problems, with the reserve side going 2-0 down inside 15 minutes. Thankfully, we rallied well, with Fejzic and Buelhoa orchestrating our revival. The league looks pretty much sewn up now (annoyingly I forgot to screenshot after the Depor match, so this is one game in the future - consider it a sneak preview!)

league_mar29_zps6b20f11d.png

Youth Products

Pedro (YP2) has again impressed with two well-taken goals and a Player of the Match performance against Girona. His current tally is 6 goals and 6 assists from 5 starts and 8 sub appearances - pretty impressive! Annoyingly though, the injured Juan Alberto (YP3) has taken exception to being tutored by the awesome Alessio Dal Maso, which is a touch worrying. Elsewhere, Joan Teixidor (YP1) has some ups, some downs in training, so I've had a moan, and Martinek (YP4) is working well - unfortunately for him, he's just behind Teixidor in the pecking order.

Player of the Month

Our rock at the back has again been outstanding, and his injury in the away leg in Rennes will really test our young side, as I think he's the one player who is irreplacable. We'll see how it goes, but he's gone for 2 months.

Very comfortable compared to last year.
That's the title pretty much wrapped up :D

Yes indeed - whilst we do still have Real away, it should be much too late for them. I'm not even that fussed about the Invincibles thing as I smashed that target with Roma. I'm getting far more enjoyment out of bringing the youngsters through this time, although we could be in for a season of transition soon when I have to break up that awesome CB pairing.

April 2029 - FC Barcelona

Fixtures

apr29_zps4425edd4.png

An excellent draw in France saw us progress to the Champions League semi final against Man Utd. In the league it was pretty much rotation all round, with Olivari seizing the chance against Valladolid. Sergio Díaz (YP6) grabbed a goal on his debut against Sociedad before a stronger side motored past tough outfit Granada. Back in Europe, a great performance saw us secure a scoreless draw in Manchester, and the return leg was all about Franca doing his thing; a 25 yard free-kick finishing the treble. Oddly, the unbeaten record fell to Betis, who beat us at home for the second year running. We should have easily won but just couldn't find the target. The title though, was wrapped up at home to Levante after a great showing from RB Guaita.

league_apr29_zps4e0b729f.png

Player of the Month

Carlos Bilbao has performed well so far in Flamel's absence. He's nowhere near as good, but hopefully he can hold it together for the final month of the season. I had hoped to see more progress from him this year, but we'll see if he can push on further next year.

We really limped towards the end here. A win over Almeria was followed by us going 3-0 down at the Bernabeu. We pulled it back to 3-3 after a rocket at half-time, but a late 20 yarder finished things off. Ugh. Finally, a 2-2 draw in Bilbao was another limp performance. We went 2-0 down quickly and took ages to get going. Still, we just about made 100 points, and this was not the aim of this month.

Real have a formidable first team, with old guard Diallo and Mokhtari refusing to let go of the CM slots. Their front six is truly scary, making them favourites, particularl

y in Flamel's absence. On paper, our run looks harder and better navigated, but never count out Real in one-off games.

We can't get the ball off them at the start of the game, Real working it comfortably forward down the left hand side, with Peluso getting a shooting opportunity, but Domingo stops low to his left. They head just over from the corner. We slowed it down after this, but another snapshot from Diallo flies just over after 25 minutes. We see the game out to half time and it's still 0-0. Straight after half time though, Real come back on the attack, with Gabriel robbing our DM Morin to feed their AMR. He skins Marjanovic far too easily and loops over a cross which AML Peluso heads beyond Domingo and into the corner. 1-0 Real Madrid! 5 minutrtes later and Real earn a cheap free-kick on the left hand side. Diallo whips in a perfect cross and CB Yildirim nips in front of his marker to head again into the same corner. 2-0 Real Madrid! We attacked straight away, and the ball broke to Dierickx six yards out. In keeping with this game though, he only hit it straight at their keeper. To compound our misery, Real break up the next attack comfortably and in spite of the AMR having two men on him, neither decide to tackle and he loops another back post cross, which Peluso heads home. 3-0 Real Madrid! The final whistle went, and Real Madrid had won the Copa del Rey!!!

Real Madrid's run to the final

Odds: Barcelona 5-1, Real Madrid Evens (Fav)

After last week's mauling in the Copa del Rey, we most certainly aren't favourites here, and that Real side is unchanged, more's the pity. We're missing CM Nehuen Miguel, with the as far underperforming Bastian Hermann taking his place. The key here will be whether we can get the ball to our front three and more importantly, whether we can shut down their two CM creators Diallo and Mokhtari, who destroyed us in the Copa del Rey.

clfinal29lineups_zps7bcd7051.png

Real haven't wasted any time here and Baysal runs all the way down the right from kick-off. His cross is cleared but falls straight to Diallo, who smashes just wide. After ten minutes though, they make no such mistake. Bilbao gets caught wanting too much time, with Malov robbing him of the ball forty yards out. He then runs straight into the area and slots beyond ter Stegen. 1-0 Real Madrid! Five minutes later and he's at it again, running at the heart of our defence. This time, Guaita wins the ball off him, and plays it forward. After nice interchanges between Morin, Govier and Dierickx, the ball works its way out to Guaita, who puts in an early cross. After a bit of pinball, it falls to Fejzic, who smashes home. 1-1! On twenty four minutes, it looks like we're about to take the lead, a short free-kick finding Linares, but a) his shot goes straight at the keeper, and b) he was offside. Ten minutes later, and we're again fiddling about at the back, although Bilbao eventually clears the ball. It breaks to Hermann and after a couple of passes, makes its way to Dierickx, who lays off for Franca on the edge of the area, and he smashes into the top corner. 2-1 Barcelona!

In the second half, Real waste no time, forcing a free-kick on the edge of the area, which Peluso fires against the bar. On sixty five minutes though we have a free-kick of our own, which Guaita flights in. Franca all alone... but straight at the keeper. Into the dying seconds now, and Real launch one last attack with Peluso making it into the box. Guaita tackles though and has the freedom of the arena to make a pass upfield. Instead though, he chooses to play the ball to DM Morin, clearly under pressure from Diallo. The Ivorian tackles and lays it to Peluso, who crosses. Linares gets there but can only block it into the path of Malov, who strikes home. In the ninetieth minute... 2-2!

Not a lot happens in extra time really. Buelhoa comes on for the ineffective Dierickx, who has really faltered in the big matches. 117 minutes gone. Their keeper launches the ball forward and again, we just can't get near it. After another cross, we struggle to get our foot on the ball on the edge of the area. It breaks to Peluso on the edge and, on the turn, he strikes a low shot into the bottom corner. 3-2 Real Madrid! The final whistle went and Real Madrid were European Champions!!!
