One team in two leagues

I like to do all kinds of experiments and one thing I was wanting to try is getting a team who plays in another country to qualify for Europe in his own. Like for example Swansea plays in England but would qualify for Champions league and euro league through Wales.

So I thought, why can't this team just play a few simple games in his own country's top league. But I can't add two leagues to the same team.

I see the option for secondary divisions but I do not understand how they are supposed to work, are there any real life examples of them? I can't get that to work.

There's nothing complicated about secondary divisions, you put a club in one and they play in those fixtures as well. You'd need to restructure the domestic leagues though since otherwise there'd be a stupid amount of fixture congestion.

Well I get a error message if I try that.

The following competition cannot have teams linking to them using both Next Division and Other Division fields "My Competition"

Ah. I've seen that one before, it makes your idea impossible, unless you have a reserve team play in the smaller league, although then it could eventually be hared to get into Europe and you'll probably have an oddity with European competition.

You need to recreate the Welsh league then as a secondary division. I'd suggest changing the "division" for the top-flight Welsh teams to the generic "a premier division" or "a lower division" and change their secondary division to the Welsh league, which you need to set up as a secondary division in Wales nation rules.

I'm not bound by trying this out with Wales, I've actually been experimenting with Andorra and Spain. But using your idea, if I'm understanding you correctly, that secondary division won't qualify teams for Continentals? Will it?

Try it anyway, it may work. I ran a test today by having Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver (Canadian teams that play in MLS, which is considered an American league) play in a different competition I set up. All 3 played the regular MLS games and the games in the Canadian division I created. I also set the top team from that division to qualify for a continental competition and they did. I can't guarantee the long term stability of such an idea but it will work even though the editor throws an error at you.
