The Lambs
I am constantly at the bottom of the Goals from Corners table (and the goals from indirect free kicks, which I think use the same set up). I thought that a common sense approach of using tall players with good jumping and heading to attack the posts, a strong player with good agility and balance to challange the keeper and a combination of attacking minded players to go forward might be good enough to net at least a half dozen goals per season. But it appears my lack of knowledge with corners is showing. So far this season as Swindon in league 1 I have scored 1 corner in 28 matches, this puts me rock bottom on the goals form corners table (I am also joint bottom on goals from IFKs with 1). I am playing well apart from this and currently lie in the play off zone, still in touch with the automatic promotion positions. I use a mixed delivery system. I know in previous incarnations that corners have been exploited to be part of a match winning strategy, this is NOT what I am looking for, what I am hoping is that a few of you having success with corners can share your understanding of the system and give me a few pointers as to what you look for in the corner taker and what you would look for in each of the corner rolls. I would also appreciate some input on how much effect training Att. Set Peices has, as I have neglected that so far.
lam
Interesting.... I had completely forgotten tthat this stat exists.... I have just checked mine and it appears that I am joint first in the league with 8 at 33 games in. What more interesting is that I think I only have about three players in the box when I take my corners. I tend to used mixed and also have someone short so my corners are very varied. The majority of players I have are either attacking from deeper (unmarked), edge of box (unmarked) or have high default positions for quick recycling of cleared balls (unmarked). There is a pattern there If you can't score from crossing to the posts, then don't cross to the posts..... there is a LOT more to corners than whipping it in to the keeper all the time *EDIT* I don't even use my best corner takers as they are better used elsewhere on corners...... though I do have a decent crosser/passer come short
PeeKay
I'm not showing off but 12 goals in 31 games Although, I am using 3 DC's in my tactics so in theory have more chance of scoring from corners. This is what I've been using for corners that I have taken off the forums a long time ago and modified over the years. Follow this guide: Stay Back x2 - Your Fullbacks/Wingbacks Then starting with your best players in the air (headers+Jumpers): 1 Attack far post 2 Attack near post 3 Attack from Deep 4 Challenge GK Then: Near post flick on - Good Header but short (usually DMC) Stand far post - Short striker Lurk Outside Area - Best Long Shots Offer Short Option - Short winger Finally, aim corners for "6 Yard Box". Attacking Set Pieces training is good for matches where you think that you be in control but the opposing team will be bunkered. This really increases your chance of scoring if the set piece have been setup correctly.
The Lambs
I have tried a different corner techniques based off the two replies and I am sad to report I still have only 1 goal from corners after another 10 matches.
