CLOUDBEAST
Apparently winning 35 drew 2 lost 1, the champions league and the spanish cup is not even enough to be in the top 3 of manager of the year? Is it even possible to win if that's the case?
RobertPage
Be honest, how many games have you skipped by going on holiday? I made a post asking a similar thing a few weeks ago and someone asked me this question and that made me realize why i didn't win it
PTom88
Yeah, it might be the holiday 'feature', or if not can you give us more information about it... Who are you training? Which league? Who were the top 3 managers? And which teams were they training?
CLOUDBEAST
Perhaps the holiday, hadn't thought about that, but I didn't holiday a game til I'd clearly won the league with about 10 games to go, certainly never holidayed an important game. The winner did quite well, got Espanyol to the champions league after they came 16th last year. I'm Barcelona about 12 years through (started at Leeds), they hadn't won the league for last 2 years or the champions league for 10.

Jibby123
Holidaying even one game (family weddings and Ferguson take note!) should mean you are sacked!! And to be fair managing Espanyol from 16th to Champions League the following season sounds more worthy than Barca winning the treble. Barca team of the year, but Espanyol manager of the year?? Holiday or not. Usually the AI is pretty good at being fair on this one.
CLOUDBEAST
true, but I just don't think its worth my valuable time to play games which clearly aren't important, obviously it's unrealistic for the manager to just not bother turning up to all these games but its just a convenient feature of the game. And it was a rather good treble, what with 107 points and 120 league goals, but Espanyol boss could have deserved it. Mourinho was 3rd though (still there after 12 years), winning absolutely nothing and finishing 30 points behind me. Little bit silly methinks. Herbert Fandel
I do think the Espanyol manager should be wining it. I appreciate that you said Barca hadn't won in a while, but was your media prediction still 1st? If so, then you came in at your predicted position (albeit with a good points tally). The Espanyol manager presumably came around 10 places above what is expected. Despite the above, given that you weren't in the top 3, rather than being 2nd place, one assumes it is indeed because you holidayed.
Spart
In the future, why not download the skin with the 'Instant Result' button added in? That way you can skip games like in Football Manager Classic without losing out on Manager of the Year points. Just Google: "Football Manager Instant Result skin"... TacticalGenius
Imo, the Espanyol manager deserved it regardless of whether you holidayed. Where is the achievement of winning the league with Barcelona? That is expected. And only League form is counted for Manager of the Year, European competition is completely discounted, as are domestic cups, I believe. Pafeu
I won Eredivisie last season, 26 wins, 4 draws, 4 losses, wasn't even candidate in Manager of the Year voting. And I played all games, none of them were holidayed.
DuncanJM
But who with? Winning the Eredivise with Ajax is not much of an achievement, but if a team destined for relegation managed a top 3 finish then that is. I do smile when I see people complaining about FM not recognising their achievements when they pick the best teams and achieve exactly what is expected. CLOUDBEAST
I don't understand why it seems such a taboo to manage a big team to some people. I've worked my way up from the championship and inheriting a poor Barcelona team with quite a bit of money sounded like a bit of fun. In the premier league, the manager who won the league has won the manager of the year on all but 3 occasions in real life, so i'm merely saying realistically I would have been in the top 3. If it really pleases Duncan and TacticalGenius to know, after 1 whole season at Barca I'm back in the championship trying to rebuild Nottingham Forest. Pafeu
OK, after my 3rd season with Feyenoord and second season in a row we end as a champions I'm still not in the candidates to Manager's Manager of the Year award. Eredivisie bug or what?
milnerpoint
Do you have to be a Dutch national to win that award?
Pafeu
Don't know that. IRL Steve McClaren won this award when he managed Twente but this was some time ago and maybe rules of this award changed? I don't have access to that kind of information but in game only Dutch managers are in the voting.
milnerpoint
It would seem you've already asked in the dutch league thread which is where i would have sent you next. Does see like a bug unless the rules have changed.
DuncanJM
@ Cloudbeast I have nothing against managing top teams myself, its just that people expect recognition for winning the prem with City, or the Champions league with Barca/Real and in the whole scheme of things it is not very challenging. Any person playing the game should expect to do at least as well as if the club was still in AI hands, and I generally find that even when I play at Liverpool, I have won everythig within 3 seasons and I lose interest. It is only when I achieve things with smaller clubs that I expect to get recognition from the game.
Mojby
I completely agree. Agree - as barcelona manager you are expected to win most things so when you do how can you be considered manager of the year when a lower rep team puches above their weight. the manager of the year will usually always go to them.
