Crewe – Onwards and Upwards

The final game to play and then the play offs to look forward too. Rouch will be hoping to use his previous play off experience and improve on his defeat in the final of last years League one play off!

Versus QPR (H) 4th May 2008

With third place secured, 2nd place unattainable and the play offs to follow there was really nothing on this game, so Rouch used the opportunity to rest some key players and experiment with the tactics, against the team that were sitting 2nd. The experiment go off to a shaky start when the Hoops took a lead after only 4 minutes when Counago scored which is how things remained in the first half. Crewe looked a bit more threatening in the second half and Dexter Blackstock opened the Crewe account 9 minutes in to the restart bringing the Railwaymen level! Dean Ashton then put Crewe ahead 2 minutes later and then put the game beyond doubt with 5 minutes remaining when he secured his brace, the Man of the Match accolade and the 3 points for the home side icon_biggrin.gif

Final Score Crewe 3 QPR 1

Goals : Crewe Blackstock (54) Ashton (56, 85)

Goals : QPR Counago (4)

Final League Position 3rd

Versus Sheffield Utd (A) 12th May 2008 – Play Off Semi Final 1st Leg

A full house at Bramall Lane and what a noise as the Blades fans got behind their team! Etuhu put the blades in front midway through the first half but the railwaymen showed some steel of their own when they equalised just before the hour with a superb Dean Ashton strike. Lester put Sheffield Utd back in front and with 0 minutes left that was how it stayed, all set up for a cracking game at Gresty Road! icon_eek.gif

Final Score Sheff Utd 2 Crewe 1

Goals : Sheff Utd Etuhu (26) Lester (80)

Goals : Crewe Ashton (59)

ATT 30887

MOM : Paolo Vernazza (Crewe)

Versus Sheffield Utd (H) 15th May 2008 – Play Off Semi Final 2nd Leg

This was a game where Crewe looked in control from the last kick to the last, and after quickly establishing the requisite 2 goal lead, with a superb effort from Huntington and another from Cochrane, closed the game down and shut off the blades supply line from midfield. Crewe were never seriously troubled as they booked their place in the final at Wembley!! icon14.gif

Final Score Crewe 2 Sheff Utd 0

Goals : Crewe Huntington (8) Cochrane (23)

ATT 10089

MOM : Hosain Kaebi (Crewe)

Versus Leeds Utd (N) 25th May 2008 – Play Off Final

The big day arrives and Crewe step out onto the Wembley turf in front of nearly 90,000 fans in their familiar red kit and Leeds in their famous white. As expected the first half was a cagey affair with both teams a little over awed by the occasion and all to aware of what was at stake. Late in the second half a Leeds attack broke down Crewe’s Jacmot raced up the left flank with the ball, crossing to Dexter Blackstock who took the ball into the penalty area and then scored to put the Crewe fans and players into raptures!! The half time whistle blew and Paul Rouch was a happy man as he led his team into the dressing room. The second half kicked off and Leeds were looking to get back into he game but Crewe were holding firm, with minutes to go the excitement within the Crewe ranks was tangible, but then in the dying seconds of the game, Leeds stole an equaliser!! Adriano broke through the Crewe defense and ensured extra time just as the Crewe fans were preparing to celebrate a remarkable feat! As the final whistle blew, Paul Rouch knew he was going to have to try and lift the players who must have been heartbroken to concede at such a late stage. The first period of extra time saw further heartbreak for the railwaymen when the slippery Adriano simulated a foul when Dean Richards came with in a foot of him in the penalty area, and the ref was taken in by hi stheatrics awarding a dubious penalty which Christanval duly converted, a mortal blow from which Crewe were unable to recover and for the second season running, the Manager saw his team lose out after finishing 3rd in the league icon_frown.gif

Final Score Leeds Utd 2 Crewe 1 (AET)

Goals : Leeds Utd Adriano (90) Christanval (Pen 94)

That should have read "Late in the first half a Leeds attack ......"

and Blackstock's goal was in the 45th minute not the 59th, I guess that what happens when you write your report still depressed from the unfairness of the play offs .. groan... grumble...

Clan Announcement

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome EFB's newest memeber Steff Browning who will be joining us tonight to get his EFB career underway. He has not picked a team yet but I wish him all the best and hopes he has as much fun as the rest of us do every Monday and Thursday night.

I hope all the other members of the clan make him feel welcome.

On another note Rob Perry has decided to quit EFB. He was a prominent member of EFB so it is sad he has left the clan. I wish him all the best and will make sure he is part of future EFB clans if there are anymore.

Titties End of Season Review

So another season comes to an end and not much to report for the titties except that we survived in the Championship for another season. A few good performances scattered throughout the season saw the titties finish 10th in the league and only 12 points off the playoff spots. At one point the chances of a playoff spot looked on the cards, but some poor form at the end meant we finished only mid-table.

League Cup

Some good performances in the league cup kept the fans entertained for at least some time. Starting with a home tie in the 1st round against Walsall, the titties managed to run out 5-0 winners. Then into the 2nd round we played Leyton Orient away and managed to stroll to a 3-0 victory. 3rd round and a slightly better quality opposition in Bolton Wanderers but still no match for the titties as we win 2-0. So the 4th round and it's away at Norwich and this time we are taken all the way to the end as it goes to penalties after a 1-1 draw. The penalty kick competition showed both managers something they had to work on as penalty after penalty was missed. Norwich eventually won the game after about 15 penalties each. So an unhappy exit for the titties.

FA Cup

Not quite as good in the FA cup for Bristol as they come up against Middlesbrough at home in the 3rd round and despite a good performance lose 3-2.

At the end of all that Marcin Radzewicz was awarded the fans player of the year award and deservedly so after he put in a number of excellent performances.

So I guess that's it for season 07/08, we can now look forward to the next season.

Titties Pre-Season Preview

So the mediocore outcome of last season is behind us now and we can now look forward to the season at hand. Johnston had been busy planning ahead with a number of free transfers arranged for the new season.

Elias Charalambous (D/DMLC)from Omonoia

Georgi Hristov (SC) from QPR

Marlon Harewood (SC) from West Ham

Steve Finnan (D/DMRC) from West Brom

Steffen Hofmann (AMRC) from Rapid Vienna

Sandor Torghelle (SC) from Crystal Palace

Nicky Butt (DMC) from free transfer

Danny Fonseca (D/MRC) from Pachuca

Also transfered in were:

Joe Brown (MC) from Bradford for £775k

Claude Reiter (DRC) from FC Groningen for £210k

Another transfer arranged for the 1st of September and possibly the best of them all:

Leonardo Pisculichi (AM/FLC) from Argentinos

Another addition to the squad in the form of a loan for the entire season is Arsenal striker Lupoli.

So a good set of players brought in for the new season, but perhaps too many strikers with no other players leaving as of yet.

Pre-season starts with 6 friendlies and Bristol are able to win 4 of them, losing 1 and drawing the other

The new season is now upon us and the bookies have rated us at 20-1 to take the league title. But the expectations of the board and of the fans are for a safe mid-table position once again. Johnston's expectations are for a playoff spot.

EFB Zeitung – Season 4 Review

Well season 4 has been and gone in EFB and it was another action packed season full of drama and heartache. Here is a run down of the goings on in EFB. Enjoy!!!!

Community Shield

As usual the season began with the curtain raiser that is the Community Shield, but with a difference this year as it was a Mancunian derby filled with passion, commitment and hatred. What a way to kick off the season!!!! It was Utd who came out on top, edging to a 1-0 victory over their City rivals and yet another trophy to the cabinet for the red devils.

Utd edge tense Community Shield Opener!!!!!!

Man Utd 1 v 0 Man City

League Cup

In this season’s League Cup final it was an all London affair as Arsenal took on Tottenham at Wembley and it was a completely one sided contest as the Gunners were rampant and tore Tottenham apart with a superb display. Much like last year when they beat Sheffield Wednesday they looked far too good for Tottenham and retained their trophy with ease.

Gunners Dominate in one sided final!!!!

Arsenal 4 v 1 Tottenham

FA Cup

The final showpiece of the English league season was marred with a very bad tempered affair between two of the giants of English Football, Manchester United and Liverpool. Santa Cruz was the first to go for Utd in the first half and then two Liverpool players; Gerrard and Petrov were sent off in the space of a minute at the start of the second half. Liverpool ran out winners in extra time but the game will only be remembered for the ill discipline of both sides.

Liverpool win a bad tempered final!!!!

Man Utd 1 v 2 Liverpool

LDV Vans Trophy

An unexpected final as Kidderminster from the Conference managed to get all the way to the final where they faced Edan Waldman’s former side Blackpool. A game of few chances and poor finishing saw Blackpool emerge victorious with a comfortable 2-0 win.

Woeful finishing costs Kidderminster the chance of glory!!!

Kidderminster 0 v 2 Blackpool

FA Trophy

A repeat of last season’s final saw Barnet take on Barrow with the same outcome – A Barnet victory. A much closer game as Barrow looked to be out for revenge but Barnet proved too strong for their conference counterparts although both teams had a poor season in the league.

Barnet do it again to Barrow!!!!

Barnet 2 v 1 Barrow

The Premiership

Another season and another championship win for Manchester United who made it two in a row and won it at a canter. Only two defeats all season as they were in superb form for most of the season. Nearest challengers were Liverpool who finished in the runners up but six points behind Utd. Another poor season for big spending Chelsea who finished in third spot again and quite a distance between themselves and the leaders. Mr Abramovich must be getting twitchy with his manager’s lack of success both in Europe and in the league.

Aston Villa and Charlton had superb seasons with both teams finishing in the top ten and both qualifying for Europe at the expense of bigger sides such as Newcastle and Tottenham.

At the other end of the table it was a tense battle to avoid relegation between five teams with Hepburn’s former side Sheffield Wednesday, Everton, Southampton, Sunderland and Portsmouth involved. Come the end of the season the Owls and the Saints stayed up and Everton, Portsmouth and Sunderland found themselves facing Championship football next season.

Premiership Champions……………………..Man Utd

Runners Up…………………………………........Liverpool

Relegated to the Championship – Everton, Portsmouth and Sunderland

Premiership Table

Hepburn shocks the footballing world with a move to the Cottage!!!

Gaffer Andrew Hepburn shocked the footballing world last season by leaving his beloved Sheffield Wednesday moving south to the capital to take over as manager of Fulham. Hepburn felt he had taken the Owls as far he could and would like to hand over the reigns with the club in a brilliant state of affairs. He also commented he could not turn down the opportunity to manage one of the sleeping giants in the Premiership backed by Mohamed Al-Fayed. Hepburn joined Fulham with them lying in the relegation zone and come the end of the season they were out the relegation zone and finished the season in 13th position. Hepburn’s goal was to move on player’s surplus to requirements and find the backbone of a falling team. Next season should be interesting to see whether Hepburn is up to the task of managing Fulham with his own players.

The Championship

Another remarkable performance from a former Premiership side in their quest to get back to the Premiership as soon as possible. The team in question this season was Middlesboro who were unstoppable racking up 100 points but were made to work all the way to the end by a rejuvenated QPR side who also made it to the Premiership via the runners up spot. There was further promotion heartache for Paul Rouch’s Crewe as yet again they lost the chance to get to the Premiership as they lost in the play off final to Leeds.

Rouch suffers further play off heartache!!!!

After a remarkable season with Crewe, Rouch’s play off jinx struck again as his team lost in the play off final to Leeds. They were a mere few seconds from making it to the Premiership before Leeds equalised and then took control in extra time over a deflated Crewe side. It was a remarkable season otherwise for Rouch’s men as they won thirteen games in a row at one point during the season to keep right in touch with the leaders but stuttery performances towards the end of the season may have cost them in their bid for automatic promotion. They will be back next season I hope and Rouch will have them in top form and they will hopefully get to the Premiership next season.

Perry’s Royals just miss out on the play off carnage!!!!

An indifferent season for Perry’s Royals who saw their manager leave on a few occasions during the season due to go on what the tabloids ‘ludicrous’ scouting missions instead of trying to get his team into the Premiership. In the end these missions costed the Royals dearly as without their inspirational manager they faltered that led to them finishing in 7th position. Next season should be interesting for the Royals with a few more signing surely up Perry’s sleeve, his team should be pushing for promotion come the end of the season again.

Johnston’s Titties nearly reach the Promised Land!!!!

Yet another indifferent season for David Johnston’s Bristol City who almost made it to the play offs but early season losses may have cost them dearly. Johnston had troubles away from football in that part of the season and his assistant as good an assistant as he did not get the same from the players as Johnston did. He brought in some good players last season and has brought in a few others in pre season and his team looks in good shape heading into the new season as they push for a place in the Premiership.

League One Review

In emphatic fashion Swansea go straight back to the Championship for another crack at it following their relegation last season. They were streets ahead of runners up Bournemouth and the rest of the chasing pack. They finished an incredible fifteen points ahead, which is quite an astonishing lead in modern day football. It was a fairly uneventful season due to Swansea dominating the division unlike last season’s roller coaster of a season in League One.

League Two Review

In a surprise this season Brentford won the league ahead of big guns Luton Town after a late run of form saw them go above Luton who had led for most of the season and take the title. It was a fantastic achievement for Brentford who showed everyone you can be successful without bucket loads of money at their disposal. Luton had to settle for the runners up spot but promotion is the aim of the game in the lower divisions and they achieved this. A late run of form from Exeter saw them snatch the second automatic promotion spot from Port Vale.

The other side that achieved promotion was Rochdale via the play offs after a dramatic penalty shoot out win against Notts County. Nothing could separate the teams after 120 minutes so a penalty shoot out decided the fate of this play off final with Rochdale winning 3-2 on penalties.

Waldman takes charge at Oldham!!!!!

In a surprise move towards the end of the season Edan Waldman left his post as Blackpool manager to try an even bigger challenge in taking over at Oldham. He has a big job on his hands as the once Premiership side are fighting relegation most seasons to stay in their respective divisions. He has made a decent start by finishing mid table and something to build on for next season. A rebuilding programme is currently underway as Waldman tries to bring in new faces to challenge for honours next season.

National Conference Review

The Conference title race went right down to the wire this year as Halifax and Hereford battled it out for the title on the last day of the season. A tense final day for both as Halifax blew their chance by losing 2-1 away at Bury while Hereford grabbed a vital point at Carlisle to give them the title by two points. Stafford Rangers were only two points behind Carlisle but never looked like gaining promotion due to inconsistency at vital times during the season.

Halifax made up for their last day misery by gaining promotion through the play offs by beating Shrewsbury 1-0 in a tense final.

Another interesting note from this division is Paul Rouch’s former side Crawley only just managed to escape relegation on the fact that they had scored more goals than Canvey Island that kept them up. Will Rouch leave Crewe to try and get Crawley up and running again after reading this???

National Conference Champions…………………Hereford

Play Off Winners………………………………….......Halifax

National Conference Table

Conference North Review

It seems to be the year for the teams in second place to make a late surge for titles while the teams who have led for most of the season have faltered. In the Conference North last season Hyde led for most of the season until late on when they began to falter and Hucknall took full advantage of the slip up to claim the title by four points. Hyde made up for blowing the title by gaining promotion through the play offs where they beat Scarborough 2-1 in a tight game but in the end they were just too good for the Boro.

Conference South

Carshalton secured the Conference South title by six points but where dominant for most of the season and deserved to end the season as champions. They had two mini blips during the season but overcame them to make sure they were playing Conference football next season. Kettering ran them close but were unable to catch them and had to settle for the runners up spot although they too missed out on promotion.

European Scene

The Champions League

Another year and AC Milan win yet another Champions League trophy. Their domination of this trophy has been incredible and this was another super performance from them to make it eight European Cup’s in the clubs history, a fantastic achievement. Arsenal had no answer to Milan’s play both going forward and they have the meanest best defence in the world that Arsenal simply could not breach. Kaka got them off to a great early start and from there they took control of the game. They added another just before half time through Miccoli and Shevchenko sealed a memorable night with a third. From this performance it is hard to see anyone take away the Champions League crown from Milan in the near future. They are the benchmark that everyone has to try and live up to.

Milan in a whole new league!!!!

Milan 3 v 0 Arsenal

UEFA Cup

After their surprise elimination from the Champions League, Barcelona made up for that disappointment by reaching the UEFA Cup where they faced Dortmund. A game Barcelona dominated ended with Dortmund lifting the trophy. Barca couldn’t believe what had just happened and neither could Dortmund. Barca had the Germans under so much pressure throughout the game but they just could not put away the chances they created. Against the run of play Dortmund ventured forward and Brazilian Ewerthon grabbed what turned out to be the winner mid way through the first half. They defended well but there was really only one team wanted to win this trophy and it was not Dortmund.

Missed chances cost Barca the cup!!!!!!!!

Barcelona 0 v 1 Dortmund

European Super Cup

Milan picked up their second European trophy of the season back in August when they swept aside Real Betis in the European Super Cup. A one sided contest that only had a Milan victory as the outcome.

Milan too strong for Betis!!!!

Milan 2 v 0 Real Betis

So folks there you have it, another action packed fantastic season for EFB with some ups and downs but everyone will be back for more next season, so stay tuned to follow what should be a super season for EFB.

Crewe – Onwards and Upwards

Players In

After the heartbreak of the playoffs (again!), Paul Rouch was looking to build a squad capable of a top 2 finish this season. With that in mind, but with a paltry £1 mill in his back pocket, rouchie went to market! The first player in was young Dean Leacock, a talented rightback with a big future in the game. Rouch was surprised not to have any competition for this free agent and was extremely pleased to secure his signature. Next in was last seasons loan signing, striker Dexter Blackstock, another free transfer and another player with bags of potential. Robbie Foy, the explosive Left sided midfielder was next in, and yet another freebie!! David Carns was picked up as a defender for the future, again for zero dosh. Crewe finally splashed some cash and spent £750,000 on Chesterfields Wayne Hall, a left sided defender who is clearly a class above the players in the Championship, and seems destined to play at the highest level.

Players Out

With all these players coming in some decisions had to be made about who to release to make room for the new guys. Gary O’Brien agreed to mutually terminate his contract and John Thompson was released. Hibs came in with a bid for Christian Roberts, and so he was allowed to go for a nominal fee. Young defender Dave Rooney Was sent on loan to Rotherham to gain some first team experience. The outrageously talented striker Kyle Wilson was snapped up by Edan Waldman’s Oldham on loan to bolster their attack

Crewe – Onwards and Upwards

So here we are at the start of another season and a new look Crewe will be hoping to improve on last years final placing and gain an automatic promotion slot!

Versus Gillingham (A) 2nd August 2008

The seasons opener was a very tight affair, although it started well for Crewe when Paul Huntington got the opener after only 14 minutes, things threatened to go down hill for the railwaymen in the second half when Lee Ball was sent off and the visitors were reduced to 10 men, but Crewe held on for a well earned win on opening day, and Paul Huntington celebrated with the Man Of The Match champagne which was presented to him after the match icon_biggrin.gif

Final Score Gillingham 0 Crewe 1

Goals : Crewe Huntington (14)

ATT 9789

MOM : Paul Huntington (Crewe)

Versus West Ham (H) 5th August 2008

Paul Rouch always approaches this game with mixed feelings, as a lifelong hammers fan he hates to have to beat them, but his managerial responsibility ensures that the will to win comes out on top, and if any one doubts that they should have watched this game, when Crewe annihilated the Hammers, and were unlucky not to score more! The big surprise was that it took as long as 13 minutes for Dexter Blackstock to grab the first goal, the second came quickly, 4 minutes later from the boot of Blackstock again! Loan signing Shane Paul grabbed the third in the second half. West Ham’s Paul Hart was sent off to compound the hammers misery and Shane Paul then converted a penalty in the dying minutes of the game to complete the rout. A bitter sweet moment for Rouch indeed icon_confused.gif Crewe’s Paolo Vernazza was named as the Man of the Match for his midfield masterclass icon_smile.gif

Final Score Crewe 4 West Ham 0

Goals : Crewe Blackstock (13, 17) Paul (77, Pen 89)

ATT 9904

MOM : Paulo Vernazza(Crewe)

Versus Crystal Palace (A) 9th August 2008

The Railway men travel to Selhurst park high on confidence after their last two performances. A tight first half yielded no goals for either set of fans to cheer, the second half saw Darren Byfield give the Eagles the lead. Crewe continued to play in the only way they know how, and wave after wave of attacks left the fans despairing as to whether Crewe would ever score! Finally Michael Higdon, a 77th minute substitute, scored the well deserved equaliser to ensure a share of the points. Unsurprisingly, Paddy Kenny, the Palace Keeper was given the MOM award icon_wink.gif

Final Score Crystal Palace 1 Crewe 1

Goals : Crystal Palace Byfield (53)

Goals : Crewe Higdon (90)

ATT 23606

MOM : Paddy Kenny(Crystal Palace)

Versus Ipswich (H) 12th August 2008

Well if you want drama, then the second half of this game served it up in abundance! The first half wasn’t short of it either with Justin Cochrane controversially dismissed after only 14 minutes leaving Crew to battle out the majority of the game with only 10 men. Crewe still managed to reach the break relatively unscathed after the disastrous start. Kaebi and Paolo Vernazza were kicked out of the game quite literally when he limped off the field just after the hour to be replaced by Michael Higdon and Kevin Jacmot. Paul Rouch was fuming at the obvious brutal tactic which is often employed by the tractor boys when faced with quick wing players. Crewe astounded all the onlookers however by keeping a clean sheet until the entered the last few minutes of the game when first Robbie Page and then Paul Connelly both scored for the visitors in the space of a minute to seemingly tie up the game for Ipswich, but then Rhys Weston manged an own goal to give Crewe a way back in to the game with only 23 minutes remaining, and then in the final kick of the game Kevin Jacmot completed a remarkable and unlikely comeback with a sweetly struck equaliser which sent the home fans into delirium!icon_biggrin.gif The Champagne had to go to Jacmot after such a dramatic last minute goal, and it did!

Matthew Gregg has been sent to Lincoln and Owain Fon Williams to Shrewsbury on loan to gain some valuable first team experience

Versus Swansea (A) 16th August 2008

Crewe’s luck finally ran out in the Welsh city of Swansea. A penalty in the first half which Parker slotted home for Swansea was enough to give them the advantage to take in at the break. Dexter Blackstock equalised for Crewe late in the second half but O’Hare restored the lead for Swansea 5 minutes later and that was how it stayed. Paul Rouch said after the game that he had no complaints as Swansea had fully deserved the win, the only Crewe player that emerged with any credit was the Welsh keeper, Gareth Williams, who’s MOM performance ensured that the scoreline remained as tight as it was. icon_frown.gif

Midfielder Dominik Bersnjak has signed for the Railwaymen on a free transfer. The talented international should bring some healthy competition to the squad. Gary Roberts has gone to Dagenham & Redbridge on loan

Versus Cardiff (A) 20th August 2008 – League Cup 1st Round

Crewe stayed in Wales after the Swansea game to face their neighbours Cardiff in the league cup. After three games without a win, Crewe were in need of a pick me up, but Cardiff, although a league one side were still a potential banana skin. Dexter Blackstock opened the scoring for Crewe but Cardiff showed they weren’t going to be pushovers when Andrew Campbell grabbed an equaliser mid way through the first half. Crewe were jittery after that until Dexter Blackstock secured his brace and put the railwaymen in front again. Crewe still went in to the break with a worried frown on the managers face. The second half was a nervous affair, but Justin Cochrane took control of the midfield and cut off the Swansea supply line with a MOM performance. It was a great relief for the team when the final whistle blew and they knew they were through to the second round icon_biggrin.gif

Versus Plymouth (H) 23rd August 2008

So after the mini break in Wales, a home fixture against the Pilgrims and Crew are looking to get their league performance back on track. A first hald devoid of any real action past all too slowly but the second half was lit up with a great goal from Paolo Vernazza who’s fine form earned him his second Man of the Match award of the month. Dexter Blackstock continued his scoring form weighing in with Crewe’s second to secure the three points for the home side, before Keith Lasley was sent off to round off a miserable afternoon for the visitors icon14.gif

*****TRANSFER NEWS*****

West Ham have foolishly agreed to let Mark Noble go to Crewe for a bargain fee and sell on clause. Mark Noble will provide some much needed cover and competition in the midfield, giving the manager a whole host of options to choose from!

Versus Coventry (A) 26th August 2008

The last game of August and Crewe have been sent to Coventry icon_wink.gif Paolo Vernazza eased Crewe in to the lead with a goal midway through a comfortable first half for the railwaymen. The second half was equally as comfortable but the second goal which Crewe so deserved did not arrive until literally the last kick of the game when Dean Ashton converted a fortuitous penalty and ensured the month finished on a good note for Paul Rouch and Crewe. icon_biggrin.gif

Final Score Coventry 0 Crewe 2

Goals : Crewe Vernazza (26) Ashton (Pen 90)

ATT 20927

MOM : Dean Leacock (Crewe)

Monthly Awards

In the player of the month Paolo Vernazza picked up a runners up award. Billy Jones was also a runner up, this time in the Young Player of the Month stakes. Kevin Jacmot was presented with the Goal of the Month award for his superb and dramatic late equaliser against Ipswich earlier in the month

Motty Fact Of The Month

A crew player has won the Man of the Match Award in every game bar one this month, and that went to Crystal Palace’s Keeper for preventing Crewe getting the win they deserved icon_biggrin.gif

The Fulham Festivities - The dawn of a new era!!!!

It was a busy pre season at the Cottage and Hepburn as promised went about getting rid of those players he viewed as surplus to requirements. Sixteen players left the club in the summer in what can only be described as a mass clearance by Hepburn. As well as getting rid of players Hepburn had a huge job to bring in players to replace those who had left. Here is who Hepburn managed to bring in:

Transfer1.jpg

Enzo Maresca AMC - Free Transfer from Fiorentina - Brilliant midfield playermaker who will add a fair bit of flair and class to the Fulham midfield next season.

Luca Toni STR - Free Transfer from Palermo - Hepburn has been on the lookout for an out and out goalscorer and with Toni he thinks he has found his man. Has a great scoring record in Serie A and Hepburn thinks he will be a revelation in the Premiership next season. Hepburn hopes he will be the man to solve his team's lack of goals.

Kevin Hofland/B] DC - Free Transfer from Wolfsburg - Brought in to add some steel and class to the Fulham defence as Hepburn felt his defence leaked to many goals last season. He is a proven international and has played in the Champions League with PSV so Hepburn knows he has brought in a top class defender.

Lebohang Mokoena AM/FC - £3 Million from Sheffield Wednesday - Hepburn raided his old club when bringing Mokoena to the Cottage and Mokoena was more than happy to rejoin with the man who brought him to England in the first place. Was the star of a failing Owls side with goals and assists. This boy really does have some superstar potential about him.

Stephen Pearson AMRLC - Free Transfer from Middlesborough - Brought in as a squad player to back up players such as Nakamura or Pennant whenever they can't play. Will fight all the way for a starting place as Hepburn thinks he has bought another young star in the making.

Rafael van der Vaart AMLC - Free Transfer from Ajax - In van der Vaart Fulham have bought a guy who has the pedigree to take Fulham to the highest level and succeed there. This boy was once tipped to be the best player in the world but never quite reached those heights. He is a proven international and is still only 25 years old. Hepburn will be looking to him to be the man in his team next year.

Sulley Ali Muntari DMC - £3.1 Million from Udinese - A bit of an unknown quantity but from seeing him in action on the training pitch I can see why Hepburn has brought this lad to the club. He is built like the side of a house, can tackle and is one agressive lad. He will probably pick up a lot of bookings but if Hepburn can keep him on the straight and narrow in terms of his discipline then he will have bought a real winner. Last season the Fulham midfield looked weak in terms of physical presence and this guy will beef it up just a little.

Jon Otsemobor DRC - £2 Million from Sheffield Wednesday - Hepburn went back to his old club to pick up another one of his old signings. He was one of Hepburn's first signings for the Owls and his a consistent perfromer both a centre half and right back. Gives 100% every time he puts on the jersey and will be a great signing for Fulham.

So it has been a busy and exciting time at Fulham on the transfer front as these new players look to help take Fulham back to the top level in the Premiership.

Pre Season Friendlies

Fulham v Nurnberg (H) 6th July 2008

Final Score - Fulham 3 v 0 Nurnberg

Kavala v Fulham (A) 12th July 2008

Final Score - Kavala 1 v 1 Fulham

Kallithea v Fulham (A) 15 July 2008

Final Score - Kallithea 0 v 3 Fulham

Kalamaria v Fulham (A) 18th July 2008

Final Score - Kalamaria 0 v 3 Fulham

Heerenveen v Fulham (A) 23rd July 2008

Final Score - Heerenveen 0 v 2 Fulham

Fulham v PSV (H) 26th July 2008

Final Score - Fulham 2 v 0 PSV

So a very satisfactory pre season for Hepburn's Fulham as his new team look to be in good shape having only conceded one goal in six games and scoring fourteen goals and some good overall perfromances especially at home to PSv in the final pre season friendly before the real action begins.

The Fulham Festivities - So the season begins then!!!!!

After all the hype of pre season and the new signings brought to the club by Hepburn it was now down to the serious business of seeing if this new look Fulham side could actually do something in the Premiership this season. They had looked in fine form all pre season so the fans had high hopes for Hepburn's side.

Premiership

Tottenham v Fulham - (A) 10th August 2008

The season opener and Fulham made the short trip across London to take on rivals Tottenham. Both managers had set out their sides for the victory with very attacking formations. Fulham created numerous early chances but no one seemed capable of putting them in the back of the net. New boy Luca Toni was left on the bench as Anelka was given the chance to shine but he let Hepburn down badly. There was only one team in this in the first half and when the sides went in at half time 0-0 Hepburn knew his side maybe made to pay for the missed chances. It turned out to be the case as Tottenham started the second half a lot better and started pushing Fulham back and made their pressure pay when Robbie Keane grabbed the opener. This really was a kick in the teeth for Fulham who had had so much of the play. At this point the game turned into something of a cup tie with chances at both ends but neither team seemed capable of putting them away. Hepburn will feel his team deserved a draw at least from the game.

Final Score - Tottenham 1 v 0 Fulham

Goals - Tottenham Keane (54)

Att - 36212

MOM - Roman Weidenfeller (Tottenham)

Premiership

Fulham v QPR - (H) 13th August 2008

Next up for Fulham was a nice home fixture against newly promoted QPR, yet another London side in the Premiership. Hepburn made the change we were all expecting as Anelka was dropped and new boy Luca Toniw as given his home debut in front of an expectant Cottage crowd. TOni got his debut off to a flying start as he had put Fulham ahead after only seven minutes of play. Only seven minutes Fulham were two ahead when Pennant scored. Toni's debut was turning into the stuff dreams are made of when made it 3-0 with a great finish and to round off the first half scoring van der Vaart also scored on his home debut. The fans were delerious along with Hepburn and his staff who could not quite believe what a first half they had just witnessed. I don't think they will play a better half of football all season it was that good. In the second half Fulham eased off the gas slightly and seemed content playing out the second half as a training match and Hepburn did not seem that bothered either as he was seen waving to fans, laughing and joking with his staff and fans around the dugout. Fantastic performance from Fulham.

Final Score - Fulham 4 v 0 QPR

Goals - Fulham Toni (7,27) Pennant (14) van der Vaart (39)

Att - 18455

MOM - Enzo Maresca (Fulham)

Premiership

Chelsea v Fulham - (A) 17th August 2008

Fulham went to Stamford Bridge full of confidence off the back of the performances at Tottenham and QPR. Hepburn kept the same team that had beaten QPR so comfortably and they started very positively and had Chelsea on the back foot and created a few half chances but were unable to make them count. Chelsea could not get their game going as Fulham were pressing hard all over the pitch not giving the Chelsea superstars a minutes peace. Fulham went in 0-0 at half time and could have been ahead given the chances they had created. They had also held firm at the back limiting Chelsea to a few long range efforts. However the game changed in the 58th minute as new signing Sulley Ali Muntari was given his marching orders for two bookable offences and Chelsea took advantage and also took control of the game. Fulham managed to keep them out until the 78th minute when D'Alessandro headed home from close range. They could have added to their lead as they were cutting Fulham open with ease but Dudek kept them out and their really was some terrible finishing from Chelsea. Another good performance up untill the sending off.

Final Score - Chelsea 1 v 0 Fulham

Goals - Chelsea D'Alessandro (78)

Sending Off - Muntari (58) (Fulham)

Att - 42425

MOM - Lucio (Chelsea)

Premiership

Fulham v Birmingham - (H) 20th August 2008

Hepburn was forced into a change following Muntari's sending off at Chelsea as Knight was moved forward into the defensive midfield role and Bocanegra came in at centre half. Right now Fulham seem to be getting off to a great start and this was no different as they had Birmingham under real pressure right from kick off. They looked in control and creating a number of half chances and near openings with Maresca pulling the strings for Fulham. The fans were loving every minute of this and their pressure paid as right on the stroke of half time new boy Mokoena grabbed his first goal for his new club. Birmingham could not get into the game at all and in the second half it was more of the same as Fulham were really in dominant form. Zatyiah Knight made it 2-0 for Fulham and capped an excellent individual performance from the former England U21 international who was playing in this role for the first time this season.

Final Score - Fulham 2 v 0 Birmingham

Goals - Fulham Mokoena (44), Knight (58)

Att - 18036

MOM - Zatyiah Knight (Fulham)

Premiership

Aston Villa v Fulham - (A) 23rd August 2008

A scrappy tight affair with not a lot of quality on show from either team. Having lost their two previous away games Hepburn played it safe and tried to be a bit more conservative in their approach. It didn't work as the flair players such as Maresca and van der Vaart did not get involved in the game as they should have been. Villa hit on the break whenever they could and it paid off twice in the first twenty minutes as Shinji Ono and Bierofka grabbed two valuable goals and played a very defensive game for the rest of the game. Fulham tried to break them down but it was all in vain as Villa stood firm to take the three points.

Final Score - Aston Villa 2 v 0 Fulham

Goals - Aston Villa Ono (9), Bierofka (20)

Att - 39568

MOM - Shunsuke Nakamura (Fulham)

Premiership

Fulham v Bolton - (H) 6th September 2008

It was back to the Cottage as Fulham entertained Bolton after yet another defeat away from home. They made up for that defeat with another quite brilliant performance as Hepburn let his flair players loose and they ran the show. Maresca and van der Vaart were pulling all the strings and Bolton could not get near them as their one touch football and vision was a sight to behold. The star of the show without doubt was van der Vaart who grabbed a glorious double to cap what was a great individual performance. The rest of the Fulham side were not half bad either as no one had a bad game. Mokoena got a third for Fulham late on in the second half to seal a great performance.

Final Score - Fulham 3 v 0 Bolton

Goals - Fulham van der Vaart (39,53), Mokoena (73)

Att - 18010

MOM - Rafael van der Vaart (Fulham)

So after taking over a Deepdale it has been a less than impressive start to my managerial career at Preston North End.

Tuesday 12 August 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Preston v Portsmouth : 2-2 draw

Preston opened the scoring in the 5th minute through Craig Beattie but could on hold the lead until the 9th minute when Bruno Cheyrou pulled Portsmouth level, Beattie was on target again as he once again put Preston back into the lead in the 15th minute but sloppy defending came back to haunt Preston as Andrew Johnson scored in the 29th minute to put Portsmouth back in the game , both teams had chances to take all three points but in the end 2-2 was a fair reflection on the game.

Saturday 16th August 2008, Coca Cola Championship , Hull v Preston : 2-1 win

\o/ My first 3 points for Preston , the point didn't look very secure to start with as Robert Brown opened the scoring for Hull in the 3rd minute , his goal was cancelled out by Richard Cresswell in the 34th minute, before Roger Reed secured the points with an 87th minute strike.

Wednesday 20th August 2008 , Carling Cup 1st Round, Blackpool v Preston : 3-1 win

My first venture into cup competition with Preston saw us run out 3-1 winners over league one side Blackpool through goals from Craig Beattie (16), Richard Cresswell (29) and Kevin Foley (86), Bruno Gama got Blackpool's only goal in the 65th minute and Mark McGregor was also sent off for Blackpool in the 78th minute.

Saturday 23rd August 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Preston v Gillingham : 3-1 defeat

My first defeat in my time in charge of PNE , a goal in the 2nd minute from Kevin Kyle gave the Gills(the is their nickname right?) the lead, Andy Gray (yay! I got beat by goals from the t!t from sky sports icon_frown.gif)added another two in the 18th and 40th minute.

Richard Cresswell got our consolation goal in 34th minute.

Tuesday 26th August 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Preston v Crystal Palace : 1-0 defeat

We struggled to break down a resolute Crystal Palace side even after they had Mark Hudson sent off in the 18th minute and got punished in the 41st minute when Tommy Doherty netted for Palace, poor finishing here had cost us three points angryfire.gif

Saturday 6th September 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Ipswich v Preston : 2-0 defeat

The month of September start as badly as the month of August had ended for us, as we went down 2-0 to a Darrent Bent double (11mins and 45mins).We never got going in the match at all and fully deserved the slapping that was inflicted upon us icon_frown.gif

Saturday 13th September 2008, Coca Cola Championship, West Ham v Preston : 0-0 draw

Possibly the most boring match ever in the history of the Championship if not the world.

2 teams turned up kicked a ball about and never really threatened the others goal.

One word sums this crap up dull

Tuesday 16th September 2008, Carling Cup 2nd Round , Millwall v Preston : 4-2 win

Back to cup duty and we found our form again, an Oliver Kirch penalty had given Millwall the lead in the 12th minute , Craig Beattie levelled for us in the 24th minute and added a 2nd in the 33rd minute, Per Cilijan Skelbred pulled Millwall back level in the 42nd minute.

The second half saw Preston dominate and for once turn our domination goals with Craig Beattie completing his hattrick on 69mins and Kevin Foley grabbing a fourth in 76minutes \o/

Saturday 20th September 2008, Coca Cola Championship , Preston v Swansea : 2-0 defeat

Swansea came to Deepdale and left Preston in deep ****, Goals from Kegian Parker in the 18th and 54th minutes were enough to dispense with us , we looked totally devoid of ideas and again as with the Ipswich game totally deserved the defeat icon_frown.gif

Tuesday 23rd September 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Plymouth v Preston : 1-0 win

Finally it was time for another to play as badly as we have over recent weeks \o/

Plymouth never really threatened and an 8th minute goal from Jasper Gronkjaer was enough to secure the win , we could and perphaps should have scored more but we have a lack of decent strikers here at Deepdale and its starting to show icon_frown.gif

Saturday 27th Sepetember 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Preston v Crewe : 2-1 defeat

Woeful finishing again cost Preston here with Richard Cresswell being the worst offender missing at least 3 clear cut chances to score.

Shane Paul was in good form for Crewe netting twice (28 and 85) while Philip Mulryne got Preston's goal in the 33rd minute.

Crewe themselves could have scored more and it was only good fortune on our part that this didn't turn into a rout.

Saturday 11th October 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Coventry v Preston : 3-1 defeat

Graham Barret tore Preston apart here with a great hattrick , beleive it or not we didn't play that badly but had no answer for Barrett's strikes (7, 62, 66) Craig Beattie got our only goal of the game in the 29th minute.

League One here we come!

On a side note I might not be able to make Tonight's session , but if that is the case I will be back for Monday night icon_smile.gif

Crewe – Onwards and Upwards

So here we are at the start of another season and a new look Crewe will be hoping to improve on last years final placing and gain an automatic promotion slot!

Versus Reading (H) 6th September 2008

Reading had to face Crewe without their mercurial manager, Rob Perry, as he had decided to move onto pastures new, but it was still the strong side that Rob had assembled facing the railwaymen. Dexter Blackstock extended his fine goal scoring record for the season with a well executed opener. New signing Bersnjak scored his first goal of the season in the second half to secure all three points for the red shirts of Crewe. Hosain Kaebi reinforced his position as fans favourite with a crowd pleasing man of the match performance in the centre of the park icon_biggrin.gif

Final Score Crewe 2 Reading 0

Goals : Crewe Blackstock (2) Bersnjak (69)

MOM : Hosain Kaebi (Crewe)

Versus Sunderland (H) 13th September 2008

Brad Friedel prevented Crewe from humiliating Sunderland in a very one sided match, the opener from Justin Cochrane after 18 minutes seemed to herald a landslide of goals for the home side who looked as though they were on fire!! But Friedels acrobatics between the sticks for the Mackem’s ensured the scoreline did not reflect the dominance that Crew enjoyed over the Geordies! He deserved his MOM award, the second time this season the award had gone to an opposition player, and again the keeper wins it! icon_confused.gif

Final Score Crewe 1 Sunderland 0

Goals : Crewe Cochrane (18)

ATT 10101

MOM : Brad Friedel (Sunderland)

Versus Sheffield Wednesday (H) 16th September 2008 – League Cup 1st Round

Paul Rouch was unable to attend this game and he will be glad he didn’t have top watch this abject defeat as the railwaymen slumped to a 3-0 thumping to the managerless premiership outfit. Gona picked up and injury in the first and Foy in the second to add insult to injury. icon_frown.gif

Paul Rouch was back at the helm for this game, and the team provided a repeat performance of the Sheffield Wednesday game just in case the manager missed it! Ellington and Chopra benefited from Bakircioglu creativeness and dominance in the midfieild to inflict a second successive 3-0 defeat on Crewe icon13.gif

Final Score West Brom 3 Crewe 0

Goals : WBA Ellington (32) Chopra (33, 77)

Versus Stoke (H) 23rd September 2008

A much tighter game but a third successive defeat for the railwaymen after a first half goal from Stoke’s Heffernan put them in the lead, Rouch will need to put the fire back in to the Crewe players bellies if they are not to fall short of their promotional aspirations again this season! icon_eek.gif

Final Score Crewe 0 Stoke 1

Goals : Stoke Heffernan (38)

MOM : Matthieu Berson (Stoke)

Versus Preston (A) 3th September 2008

A very hard fought game which Shane Paul won for Crewe with his goals in both halves, interrupted by a reply from Philip Mulryne which gave Preston some hope of getting a share of the points, Ben Williams played a blinder between the sticks for Crewe, and fully deserved his man of the match award, as he ensured that the advantage gained by Paul was intact after the 90 minutes with some superb saves throughout the game, Crewe back to winning ways at last! icon_biggrin.gif

Versus Bristol City (H) 11th October 2008

Daves Titties were in town, but again without their manager icon_eek.gif It was a shame Dave couldn’t make it as he missed a real treat with Justin Cochrane and Shane Paul ensuring that Pisculichi’s sterling performance was all for nothing, by grabbing a goal apiece in the first half, Crewe took the three points and the Argentinean took the Man of the Match award for Bristol City, Happy with that icon_wink.gif

After an uneventful first half, Millwall managed to steal a goal soon after the restart when Man Of the Match Carvalho slotted home while Paul Rouch was still making his way to the bench from the dressing room! Dexter Blackstock equalised on the hour, only for Abdellaoui to put the pikeys ahead again 10 minutes later. Shane Paul came off the bench to bring Crewe level for the second time and that was how the game remained until the final whistle, honours even.

Versus Norwich (H) 25th October 2008

A cracking game this and all fans felt that they had got their moneys worth with both teams obviously looking for all three points! Stefan Moore opened the scoring for the Canaries after just 7 minutes which set the tone for an attacking game, Kevin Jacmot put Crewe back on level terms less than 10 minutes later and the crowd roared their approval, and kept the noise to max throughout the game. The game ebbed and flowed as both teams burst forward looking for another goal which eventually fell Norwich’s way in the second half when Ryan Jarvis prodded home to give the Canaries the lead for the second time. Crewe weren’t about to give up though and they took the game by the scruff of the next as they launched a ferociouis series of attacks on the Norwich goal, Kevin Jacmot was instrumental in providing the ball to Hosain Kaebi to equalise on 85 minute, and then again when Crewe sahocked Norwich with a winning goal four minutes later! icon14.gif it was no surprise when Jacmot was presented with the MOM award icon_biggrin.gif

Versus Sheffield United (H) 28th October 2008

Crewe dominated from start to finish in this game but didn’t get on the score sheet until Justin Cochrane finally breached the Blades defence in the 77th minute! Once that went in though the Sheffield Utd defence just seemed to fall apart, 3 minutes after the first, Shane Paul was needlessly fouled in the penalty box, which led to the penalty that Paul converted, he netted again 4 minutes later as the opposition defence was in disarray! Cochrane rounded the scoring off 2 minutes later to make it 4 goals in less then 10 minutes! icon_smile.gif A good nights work for the home side

Cherrie's Hire Living Legend

Having been just out of management for 3 days, Yorkshire born manager Rick Boult has been given the change to strut his stuff at the Fitness First Stadium. It what has already been a glittering career for the 19 year old, the challenge facing him is one which will test all limits the young lad has. With Bournemouth languishing at the foot of the Championship table and favourites for relegation, fans of the club can only hope he can bring the success to which he brought previous clubs Blackburn Rovers, Tottenham and Manchester United.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> 'Its a great honour to be given the chance to prove myself in the lower leagues at my age. Bournemouth has a great history of managers including Harry Redknapp and Mel Machin who brought success to the club and i only hope i can do the same. Many people believe me to be an incompetant manager only in it for the money but i hope to prove those critics wrong. Its also well known i like a drink and i've been estutely informed that Bournemouth has some of the best pubs and clubs in britain. Both myself and my long term girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert will be moving from our home in Manchester closer to the ground and training facilities where i have been told i have complete access to everything the town has to offer.' </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The Squad

AFC Bournemouth

As the screen shot above shows, the Squad i have to work with at the minute is very minimal. The introduction of 16 year old striker Leigh Hayward sparked the team into live however, with the youngester grabbing 4 goals in 3 games. There are deals currently being struck between ourselves and a few foreign players with permits the only problem but with a few english born players also soon to join, we should have the quality to survive this season with prospects towards a more solid year next year.

Current League Position

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

| 24th | Rick | Bournemouth | | 13 | 1 | 1 | 11 | 5 | 27 | -22 | 4 |

| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

</pre>

Having only scored 5 goals in 13 games when i took over, it was clear where the problem was. With it being hard to bring in quality in such a position, i turned to youth bringing in 1 or 2 clinical finishers who should help with the goal scoring problem were currently in. 7 point behind the team currently in 23rd spot, we can hopefully catch thme in the next few games and hopefully claw our way out of the relegation zone.

Impressive Start For Boult

With a somewhat uphill facing AFC Bournemouth this season, it seems the appointment in talented manager Rick Boult has had the desired effect on the club with fans now hopefully of a safe midtable position after recent results. Having had previous experience at Premiership clubs, it seems Boults ability to bring teams closer together both on and off the pitch is proving invaluble.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> 'The lads have been great to me over the past few weeks while i've been settling down. My armarni suit was found in the showers after training on my first morning with the lads and from then we seemto have bonded well. I've enstilled a work ethic in them where its not just about 1 man, there's no 'I' in team and we've been putting this into practise down the local pub. I've been impressed with Neil Moss's handling skills as after 11 pints of lager he was still able to keep hold of the young brunette he'd pulled earlier in the night. It's been hard for our new young super striker, Leigh Hayward due to him only being 16, but i've pulled a few strings and managed to get the lad a fake I.D so he's now able to join in the festivities.' </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Recent Results

Coca-Cola Championship

AFC Bournemouth [0]:

Crystal Palace [0]:

Not the easiest of starts at a new club, but the lads did well to hold on to a 0-0 draw. The league table showed we were going to have trouble scoring this year so i immidiately looked into the transfer market after the game and secured the free transfer of teenager Leigh Hayward.

League Cup 3rd Round

Torquay [2]: Hamshaw, Thorpe

AFC Bournemouth [4]: Nardiello, Hughes (3)

Well, even though Torquay are in the division below, it was still a very impressive performance from the Cherries. From the first minute we dominated the game grabbing an early goal through Nardiello settling the nerves. Torquay twice came back from a goal down but the difference in class was too much in the end, although there won't be many times where i can say that this season.

Coca-Cola Championship

Ipswich Town [2]: Wright, Williams

AFC Bournemouth [0]:

A game to which to be honest we didn't deserve to lose. Ipswich are pushing for automatic promotion this season and there team has some quality players but they were outclassed by a much more together Bournemouth outfit. Clinical finishing once again let us down however meaning we slipped further behind in the race for suvival.

Coca-Cola Championship

AFC Bournemouth [3]: Hayward (2), Frayne (Pen)

Swansea City [3]: Brittain, Parker, Spring

Son of a *****. 30 seconds from a win which was justly deserved and Matthew Spring pops up with a killer goal to the dismay of the home supporters. There was a definate improvement in the teams performance and with Hayward popping up with 2 goals on his debut, goals were surely going to be flowing in later games.

Coca-Cola Championship

Coventry City [1]: Gudjonsson

AFC Bournemouth [2]: Hayward (2)

The Sky Blue's are another side looking to get into the playoffs this year so this was a very impressive first win for me. Playing away from home we seem to lack commitment and were probably fortunate to win this, but hopefully the fact we did will give us all the lift we needed. Haywards looking like a real find with him having scored 4 goals in 2 games.

League Cup 4th Round

Blackburn Rovers [4]: Beattie (2), Olic (2)

AFC Bournemouth [0]:

Lets not talk about this game...........

It could and should have been about 15-0 icon_frown.gif

Coca-Cola Championship

Plymouth Argyle [1]: May

AFC Bournemouth [2]: Frayne, Wilson

Plymouth are sitting just outside the relegation zone so this bottle of the table clash was a real 6 pointer. Having been on the recieving end of a late equiliser only 2 weeks ago, luck went our way this time with Wilson heading in from a corner in the dying seconds.

Manager Comment

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> With us winning our last 2 away games its put us in a much healthier position than when i first took over. We seem to have sorted out our attacking options with the introduction of new faces and new training regimes plus a 'pint a goal' clause in everyones contract. Hopefully we can keep up this recent run of form through christmas and should then find ourselves climing out of the relegation zone and up the league. Targets for the season are still a safe 13th place which will set us up nicely for next year and our push for promotion. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Fulham.jpg

The Fulham Festivities - Is this the start of something big for Fullham?

At almost the halfway point in the season, Hepburn's Fulham find themselves sitting pretty in 6th position in the table and really playing some flowing attractive football. His new look side have really started to look the part with everyone playing their part in Fulham's bid for success. Here is a rundown of the latest games....

Premiership

Wigan v Fulham - (A) 13th September 2008

With away form none to consistent at the moment Hepburn decided to play it safe again and try and play a lot more conservative much like the did against Aston Villa although it did not work for them during that game. An even game that lacked quality and good finishing from both sides and really not much else. Wigan started the better of the two teams but Fulham slowly got more and more into the game but could not finish the good chances they created.

Final Score - Wigan 0 v 0 Fulham

Att - 19415

MOM - Andrew Griffin (Fulham)

Carling Cup 2rd Round

Fulham v Everton - (H) 17th September 2008

Fulham's Carling Cup campaign kicked off with a tricky home tie against relegated Everton, who have managed to hold onto their top players as they make their bid to get back to the Premiership at the first attempt. Two early goals settled this hotly contested game and both goals came from new signing Mokoena who is stating a claim to be the number one striker at the Cottage. Two brilliantly worked goals and clinical finishes from the man from South Africa and Fulham were cruising. Everton gave a great account of themselves and could have scored but Dudek and his defence stood firm as they have done all season at home.

Final Score - Fulham 2 v 0 Everton

Goals - Fulham - Mokoena (5,11)

Att - 15029

MOM - Stephen Pearson (Fulham)

Premiership

Fulham v Manchester City - (H) 20th September 2008

Another dominant home performance from Fulham saw them run out winners against a Man City side who just could not handle the Fulham attack. The scoreline suggests a close game but in all honesty there was only one team winning this game. Fulham started the game well, creating half chances and really taking the game to City who could not get out the blocks so to speak. Mokoena opened the scoring midway through the first half after some fine play from Maresca but against the run of play City hit back with their first real attack as Geremi equalised. This only fired Fulham up and they went into the lead again right on half time as Mokoena grabbed his second goal of the afternoon. The second half it was more of the same as Fulham pressed for a third and City were really holding on by the skin of their teeth. Much to the dismay of the home fans City managed to nick a second goal through Holm and all of a sudden the Cottage was silent with the City fans singing as even they probably could not believe their team were level. After the equaliser it was all hands on deck for City as Fulham poured forward in search of a winner. They wasted several chances and the home fans thought a draw was on the cards until six minutes from time when Maresca lashed in a shot from all of twenty five yards to cap a fine performance from the Italian. A deserved win in the end but they left it late.

Final Score - Fulham 3 v 2 Manchester City

Goals - Fulham - Mokoena (25,45), Maresca (84)

Goals - Man City - Geremi (32), Daniel Fredheim Holm (64)

Att - 18440

MOM - Lebohang Mokoena (Fulham)

Premiership

Manchester United v Fulham - (A) 27th September 2008

Fulham manager Hepburn really must hate the sight of Old Trafford as every time he takes a team here they are on the wrong end of a thrashing. Last season it was a 6-1 thrashing and this season it was a 4-1 thrashing as Fulham crumbled for the first time this season. Man Utd turned on the style and showed just why they are the team to beat this season and could be for a long time to come. They dominated every area of the pitch and the Fulham players seemed to be chasing shadows for most of the afternoon. It had all started so well for Fulham as Mokoena put them ahead and they created a couple of other good opportunities in the opening stages. Utd then seemed to change gears and from then on it was all Utd. Van Nistelrooy grabbed a double, Rooney got one and Ernst got the fourth. Hepburn stated after the match that this was an improvement and that Utd are the benchmark for his team.

Final Score - Man Utd 4 v 1 Fulham

Goals - Man Utd - Rooney (41), Van Nistelrooy (50,77), Ernst (71)

Goals - Fulham - Mokoena (18)

Att - 66264

MOM - Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd)

Premiership

Fulham v Wolves - (H) - 1st October 2008

After the thrashing at the hands of Man Utd it was thankfully back to the Cottage to take on Wolves. Hepburn will feel this was two points dropped as Fulham did everything but put the ball in the back of the net. Luca Toni was back in the line up as Mokoena was given a well earned rest after his recent performances but Toni looked off form was the main guilty party for passing up chances created by Nakamura, Maresca and van der Vaart. Isaksson in the Wolves goal was also in fine form and stopped everything that came near him. This was the first time this season that Fulham had not won at home and Hepburn was not happy at losing ground in the Premiership as his team are pushing hard for a European place.

Final Score - Fulham 0 v 0 Wolves

Att - 18460

MOM - Shunsuke Nakamura (Fulham)

Premiership

Blackburn v Fulham - (A) 11th October 2008

At last Hepburn's men got their first away win of the season and what a win it was as Blackburn are always tough to beat especially at Ewood Park. Fulham's growing confidence showed, determined to make up for the loss at Old Trafford and the draw at home to Wolves. They started very well indeed and soon had Blackburn under some pressure and tested Robinson in goal for Blackburn. This early pressure paid off as Mokoena put Fulham ahead with a super finish inside the penalty area. It was 2-0 soon after as Bocanegra unleashed a thunderbolt of a free kick from about 35 yards that Robinson did not move for. In the second half it was more Fulham pressure and midfield wonderman Maresca made it three with another super strike from 25 yards. Blackburn managed to get a late consolation goal through James Beattie but it didn't matter as most of the home fans were heading for the exits as they had seen their team well beaten.

Final Score - Blackburn 1 v 3 Fulham

Goals - Blackburn - Beattie (90)

Goals - Fulham - Mokoena (21), Bocanegra (35), Maresca (72)

Att - 28541

MOM - Enzo Maresca (Fulham)[/i]

So Hepburn's men are really in the hunt for a European spot at the moment and lets hope they stay there till the end of the season....

More to follow....

The Titties Season Update

Well here we are at the start of a new season and another chance for the titties to show that they are on their way up with superstar manager Johnston at the helm. The pundits have announced the titties as 20-1 long shots of winning the league this season and manager Johnston has reportedly paid no attention to the reports, at a press conference before the opening league game Johnston had the following to say:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">The season ahead will be long and hard and to make predictions at this stage is unwise as noone can ever know what will happen with injuries and the like. If I were to tell you today where I would like to be at the end of the season then of course I would say 1st, and naturally that's what I will be working to. One thing I will say is that I will do my best to bring Bristol into the Premiership and I think that with some of the players brought in recently we definitely have the quality to achieve that. Now lets just let the talking be done on the pitch. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The titties see their league campaign get underway with a live televised away game at Bournemouth, and here's what happened.

Bournemouth 1 Bristol City 3

Bristol lined up with a lot of new faces on the park and some exciting prospects at that, players to watch are: Steve Finnan at right back and Steffen Hofmann in midfield. Bristol's yound attacking midfielder Michael Keen is also one to watch as he continues to attract attention with some great play during pre-season.

Onto the game and the season gets off to a bad start with Bournemouth taking the lead after only 27 minutes. This is not enough to put the titties down as Michael Keen hooks up with Radzewicz to run the entire length of the park and grab the equaliser right on the stroke of half time. A great counter attack and a fantastic finish. So 1-1 at hlaf time and Johnston is relatively pleased with the performance so far. The second half starts badly for the titties as Bournemouth are awarded a penalty on 63 minutes. However in form goalkeeper Steve phillips makes the save that keeps the scoreline level. Last seasons goal machine Roland Linz then decided enough was enough and went on the rampage scoring 2 goals in 5 minutes (79 and 84). The first of which a counter attack set up by none other than Michael keen and the second a deflection with the assist going to, yes you guessed it, MICHAEL KEEN.

With a good win to start the season the titties are pleased to see Michael Keen win the MOM award after 1 goal and 2 assists.

With the opening game over and done with the Titties get their heads down and focus on their training in the hope they can continue with some good football.

The first home game for the titties is a midweek event against Watford:

Bristol City 2 Watford 1

The titties line up with a very similar team to the season opener, but with Nicky Butt getting his first start for the titties. The game seems to be going all wrong for the titties as the go 1-0 down after 33 minutes and the game stays that way for the majority of the match. However with a triple substitution late on in the game the Titties spring back to life and with 88 minutes on the clock new boy Steffen Hofmann gets on the end of a Figueroa cross to equalise. Then wonderkid Michael Keen strikes a 30 yarder into the top corner just as the referee gets ready to blow the final whistle. So thats it, Bristol's star strikes again. However the MOM award was this time given to Watfords Lee Hendrie.

Two wins in a row and Johnston is ecstatic:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">I'm very pleased with the start we have made to the season, and in particular Michael Keen has really shown that bringing him out of the U18s last season was a great decision. The kid has a great future ahead of him and I only hope that he will remain a tity for a while. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Bristol now travel to the Walker's Stadium to take on Leicester and things don't go to well:

Leicester 2 Bristol City 0

A very average performance by the tittes was made even worse when new striker Sandor Torghelle received his second yellow card and was sent packing after 50 minutes. And with the titties already 1 goal down things weren't looking good. And then even worse when a second flew in on 66 minutes. The titties were then shown a glimmer of hope when the playing field was levelled as Leicester's Matt Heath was sent off on 70 minutes. However the titties failed to capitalise and the game ended 2-0. With the MOM award going to Leicester's goalkeeper Jason Brown.

An unfortunate defeat for the titties and Johnston is reportedly unhappy with Sandor Torghelle after he was handed his first start. Torghelle was issued a warning for his red card.

Bristol's hopes of recovering from that defeat were not too high as their next game was a home tie against league favourites, recently relegated Everton:

Bristol City 1 Everton 2

The game gets off to a good start as once again Steffen Hofmann gets his head on the end of a Radzewicz cross and makes it 1-0 with only 16 minutes on the clock. However the fans jubilation was short lived as Everton struck back only 4 minutes later. An unfotunate injury to midfield youngster Joe Brown left Bristol lacking in the crucial midfield area and Everton capitalized in the 61st minute with Mikael Forsell scoring the winner. MOM for this game was Everton's Tim Cahill.

So 2 wins and 2 defeats to start the season but Johnston is happy with some player's performances so far and has high hopes for the rest of the season. Starting with an away tie against Portsmouth:

Portsmouth 0 Bristol City 1

Another of the leagues favourites play host to Dave's titties now and this time Bristol show why Johnston is confident that his team are capable of doing something in this league. With only 16 minutes on the clock Michael Keen sends a ball through the defence for Sandor Torghelle to strike home making it 1-0. And with a lot of hard work Bristol are able to hold on to the lead for the rest of the game. Keen's assist was enough to gain him another MOM award for the season.

So with 5 league games gone its onto the league cup with Bristol taking on Leicester and hoping for revenge for the league defeat earlier on.

Bristol City 3 Leicester 0

Johnston had his titties fired up for this game as he wanted revenge for the defeat in the league and it worked as Steffen Hofmann pounced on a loose ball in front of the net and slotted it home to make it 1-0 after only 8 minutes. The team then calmed down for a while before finally deciding to kill the game off with another goal from Hofmann in 82 minutes and a 3rd from Linz a minute later. So a good pounding for Leicester their, that'll teach them to beat us. If you were given one guess as to who received the MOM award in this game who would you choose? That's right, MICHAEL KEEN.

A cup win is always good and the draw for the next round sees the titties take on Nottingham Forrest away from home.

Back to the league and it's 2 home games in a row now starting with Hull:

Bristol City 0 Hull 0

A very boring home game for the titties as they see absolutely no action. The only player to come out of the game with a decent performance was, you guessed it, Michael Keen. However the MOM award went to Hull's goalkeeper Danny Coyne for keeping out all 19 of Bristol's shots.

Bristol City 0 West Ham 0

So after a boring game on Saturday Bristol hope to change things here, however another poor day in front of goal saw neither team finding the net, a very familiar game to the last one with Michael Keen once again being the only Titty to have a decent game and the MOM award going to West Ham's goalkeeper Alan Blayney.

Johnston's star signing has finally arrived on a free transfer from Argentinos and goes straight into the squad to face Crystal Palace in a hope to change thins around and score a few goals.

Crystal Palace 0 Bristol City 2

Leonardo Pisculichi makes an impact on his first game with a fantastic performance on the left wing. Starting with a great cross on 22 minutes which is met by the head of Joseph Desire-Job making it 1-0. He also has a hand in the 2nd which is scored by Gustavo Figueroa in 80 minutes. Pisculichi's great debut performance sees him awarded with the MOM award.

Another victory in the league and johnston is very happy with his team. However trouble is at hand as johnston is called away to attend to an emergency and has to leave his assistant in charge of the next few games, starting with Gillingham away:

Gillingham 1 Bristol City 0

A terrible start to the ass man's time at the helm. With Gillingham winning the game through a penalty in the 29th minute. However new boy Pisculichi once again receives the MOM award for his performance in this match.

It's league cup time once again and with the ass man in charge the titties are worried about crashing out early, but luckily things went right on the day.

Nottingham Forrest 1 Bristol City 2 aet

The game does however get off to a bad start with goalkeeper Phillips being credited with an own goal after failing to stop a powerful shot on the half hour mark. However things get better in the second half starting with a free kick from Pisculichi on 51 minutes. Then 2 minutes into extra time Danny Fonseca strikes with power from distance making it 2-1 and progression into the next round for the titties.

So a good result for the ass man, but his time in charge is not over yet, and the next couple of games seals his fate at the club. With the club sitting in the playoff zone when Johnston left he was horrified to see them dropped to mid-table when he got back, due to the following games.

Bristol City 1 Ipswich 2

This game did however get off to a good start for Bristol with Nicky Butt grabbing a goal after only 4 minutes. But Ipswich proved too good and controlled the game and despite missing a penalty after 8 minutes they grabbed the equaliser after 42 minutes. Then into the second half and Ipswich get the winner straight away with only 46 minutes on the clock.

A very dissapointing defeat for the titties, what next?

Swansea 2 Bristol City 1

What can the ass man do here was the question on everyone's lips. F*** all was the answer. Swansea took the lead after 34 minutes. And increased it with a penalty after 41. Loanee Arturo Lupoli grabbed 1 back for the titties after 50 minutes, but that's all we could manage.

The ass man is in for a torid time when Johnston returns if he can't turn things around starting with Plymouth at home.

Bristol City 2 Plymouth 0

Luckily for the ass man Arturo lupoli felt like scoring a few goals today, starting on the half hour mark then again in 39 minutes. Which is enough to seal a 2-0 victiry for the titties, perhaps a lifeline for the ass.

But then the biggest game so far with johnston's titties taking on Rouch's Crewe and unfortunately the ass man was still in charge icon_frown.gif.

Crewe 2 Bristol City 0

It takes only 8 minutes for the in-form Crewe to take the lead through Justin Cochrane, with Shane Paul extending the lead only 10 minutes later. Crewe then had a 3rd goal dissallowed before half time. But the 2 were enough to see off poor Bristol and seal the fate of the ass man.

Johnston returns back at the clubs ground to hear the news and gets straight on the computer to type up a letter to his assistant informing him that his services would no longer be required. So the search is on for a new ass man.

Johnston returns to take charge against Coventry at home in the hope of climbing back up the league.

Bristol City 1 Coventry 0

Dave gets his team back together and talks to them about what he expects from them and the team take notice as they take the field and find the net after only 1 minute through Arturo Lupoli. A sterling performance from leonardo Pisulichi sees him take away the MOM and help to keep the scoreline 1-0 for the next 89 minutes.

So Johnston comes back and shows how it is done with a win, but next up is Crystal Palace in the cup and things don't go quite so well.

Bristol City 1 Crystal Palace 2

The game gets off to a good start m´with Michael Keen grabbing a goal after 15 minutes which takes us into half time. However in the second half things start to go wrong and Palace are able to get back into the game and score in the 58th and 65 minute to make it 2-1 and Bristol out the cup.

Back to the league and it's Rob's old Reading.

Reading 2 Bristol City 2

Terrible start for the titties with Reading scoring with only 55 seconds on the clock. However Danny Fonseca levels things up 15 minutes later. But it only lasts for another 4 minutes before Reading take the lead again. Disaster a minute later when Nicky Butt is sent off. The game is saved for the titties when Peter kopteff makes a stunning run in the 77th minute and strikes a stunning goal to make it 2-2.

Bristol City 2 West Brom 0

Time for Bristol to get back on track with a home win and there's no sign of that in the first half. But Bristol decide to leave it late and Roland Linz grabs one after 75 minutes, then Steffen Hofmann makes it 2 with 82 minutes gone. So in the end a comfortable win for the titties.

Next is a big home game against Sunderland and a chance for the titties to prove their worth.

Bristol City 4 Sunderland 3

A game of poor defending or a game of good attacking? Well the first half ends at 0-0, so no answer from that, but let's look at the goals. The first comes for Danny Coles from a corner after 65 minutes. Sunderland hit back only a minute later though also from a corner. So know sign of particularly impressive attacking or poor defending yet. Georgie Hristov then scores a penalty 10 minutes later, still no sign. Bristol then make it 3-1 with some great play by Pisculichi and a good finish from Hristov. With not long to go Sunderland fight back in search of a draw and it pays off. First a free kick on 80 minutes. Then a spectacular long shot minutes later. But Bristol finish the game on a high with a solo goal from Radzewicz. So there we have it 4 set piece goals, 1 long shot and 2 well created goals. So not really anyone to blame. Leonardo Pisculichi receives the MOM award yet again.

So the final game to report for now and its Stoke away.

Stoke 1 Bristol City 1

A poor way to end for the Titties with Hristov missing a penalty in the first 10 minutes. Then the lead created by Steffen Hofmann after 56 minutes lasts only 3 minutes before Stoke pull level again. Stoke then have a man sent off after 83 minutes but Bristol fail to capitalise on the extra man and the game ends 1-1.

So the season so far sees Bristol sitting comfortably in 7th place and very close to a playoff spot. Lets hope that Johnston never has to leave his ass man in charge again, and maybe this year we will make the playoffs. icon_biggrin.gif

Best Players so far:

Michael Keen - has put in some great performances winning a number of MOM awards and setting up a number of goals.

Steffen Hofmann - from midfield has scored a few goals and performed consistenly well.

Steve Finnan - had a number of top performances at the back.

Leonardo Pisculichi - since joining has made a great impact winning a number of MOM awards and consistently turning in 9 and 10 performances.

The Fulham Festivities - It's all good at the Cottage!!!

Life at the Cottage is great for everyone connected with Fulham football club at the moment as Hepburn has his team playing some superb football and some good results to back it up. Everyone at the club has a smile on their face, training is full of fun and even aggie the tea lady is smiling, miserable old bint that she is!!!! Here is a rundown of the latest games.....

Premiership

Fulham v Charlton - (H) 19th October 2008

Another full house at the Cottage as Fulham entertained Charlton to the Cottage. Charlton are renowned for their hard working approach and work ethic and it makes them an extremely difficult team to beat. Fulham knew they would have a tough game but they were more than ready coming off the back of an impressive win at Blackburn. A game of few chances but most of them fell to Fulham who had the lionshare of possession but could not break down the well organised Charlton defence. Charlton were playing with 10 men most of the game after Danny Murphy got himself sent off after only fifteen minutes. Fulham took advantage of this but struggled to make the breakthrough through the first half and went in at half time goaless. It was more of the same in the second half as Fulham pressed forward trying to break down this seemingly rock solid Charlton defence. The break through finally came from a set piece as Wilfred Bouma lashed in a free kick from 35 yards and the Cottage went balistic!!! It got even better as van der Vaart made it 2-0 after soem fine play from Maresca who is in majestic form at the moment.

Final Score - Fulham 2 v 0 Charlton

Goals - Fulham - Bouma (65), van der Vaart (77)

Carling Cup 3rd Round

Fulham v Southampton - (H) 22nd October 2008

It was back to cup action for Fulham as they faced Southampton in the Carling Cup third round. A potentially tricky tie for Fulham but one many predicted they would overcome quite easily. Hepburn kept the same side that beat Charlton at the weekend and they started the game much the better team. They got off to the prefect start when Jermaine Pennant scored inside the penalty area after a superb solo run. That was the end of the scoring for the first half as they could not increase their lead. In the second half they finally took their chances as Maresca addd number two and then Mokoena made it three to virtually seal their place in the fourth round. The Saints grabbed a late consolation but it was no where near enough.

Final Score - Fulham 3 v 1 Southampton

Goals - Fulham - Pennant (11), Maresca (56), Mokoena (90)

Goals - Southampton - Singh (82)

Att - 15546

MOM - Enzo Maresca (Fulham)

Premiership

Leeds v Fulham (A) 25th October 2008

It was off to Ellend Road to face newly promoted Leeds back in the Premiership after winning the play off in dramatic fashion at the expense of Paul Rouch's Crewe. A huge Fulham support travelled to Leeds in expectation of another win to keep this mini unbeaten run going. Leeds had other ideas and started the game full of passion and fire and really got stuck into Fulham, not allowing them to settle. Extra attention was paid to the likes of Maresca and van der Vaart and they were not influential as a result. Joey Barton put Leeds ahead after fourteen minutes only for Pennant to equalise minutes later for Fulham against the run of play. Fulham could not get their best players involved in the game and suffered as Leeds showed remarkable tempo about their game throughout the match. In the second half Fulham created a little more but not enough to trouble Leeds and fell behind again to a Henri Camara goal that proved to be the winner.

Final Score - Leeds 2 v 1 Fulham

Goals - Leeds - Barton (14), Camara (57)

Goals - Fulham - Pennant (26)

Att - 35593

MOM - Shunsuke Nakamura (Fulham)

Premiership

Fulham v Liverpool - (H) 1st November 2008

A new month and on the first day of the month Fulham faced their toughest test at home yet as they took on high flying Liverpool , sitting in third spot. Fulham had to be at their best just to take something from the game and they were more than at their best. It was by far the best performance of the season from them. Defensively they were solid as a rock and attacking they were creating chances and puting Liverpool under some real pressure at times during the match. At times Chris Kirkland in the Liverpool goal kept them in the game with some world class saves. In the end one goal settled this game and var der Vaart stepped up and scored the goal that proved to be the winner but they could have scored another goal or two but Hepburn will be more than pleased with the result and the perfromance from his team.

Final Score - Fulham 1 v 0 Liverpool

Goals - Fulham - van der Vaart (48)

Att - 18454

MOM - Enzo Maresca (Fulham)

Carling Cup 4th Round

Fulham v Wolves - (H) 5th November 2008

In a game of near total domination Fulham did everything but score in 120 minutes of 4th round Carling Cup football. Chance after chance was missed by virtually every player in the Fulham team and Hepburn was left pulling his hair out at the end of extra time. They faced the dreaded penalty shoot out and Hepburn's record in penalty shoot outs over the years. Fulham eventually won through to the quarter finals with a 3-1 victory in the shoot out and hepburn was ecstatic after watching much of the shoot out through clasped hands as he could not bear to watch. A deserved victory although they did go the long way round to get it. Dudek was in fine form in the shoot out and was the hero of the night.

Final Score - Fulham 0 v 0 Wolves aet - Fulham won 3-1 on penalties

Att - 14850

MOM - Jermaine Pennant (Fulham)

So things are going well at Fulham for the moment with the stand out player so far being Enzo Maresca who seems to be in the form of his life. Lets hope this continues for seasons to come!!!!

Steff.jpg

Due to a mystery illness manager Steff Browning was absent from the dugout for the last 7 matches, leaving assistant manager Sam Ellis in charge with little success.

Steff Browning will be glad to be back in the hotseat following this abysmal run of results :

Saturday 18th October 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Preston v Reading : 1-0 defeat

Preston put in a woeful performance at home as they fell to Reading through and 9th minute goal from Ederson.

Again it looked as if Preston had no idea what to do with the ball in the final third and Reading could have scored more than the single goal which eventually proved to be enough to take all three points.

Wednesday 22nd October 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Brentford v Preston: 1-0 win

A single goal from Charley Hearn in the 38th minute was all the seperated those two teams in a very evenly contested match, a draw would have been a fair result but you won't here Preston fans complaining about collecting the 3 points.

Saturday 25th October 2008, Coca Cola Championship, West Brom v Preston : 3-0 defeat

We were soundly beaten here I don't know what tactics my clown of an assisstant was using but they clearly didn't work.

The goals came from Kevin Foley(13 OG), Nathan Ellington(60),Mark Wilson(90).

Tuesday 28th October 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Preston v Stoke : 2-0 win

Preston managed to snatch three valuable points here with help in the first minute from a Bryn Hailliwell own goal, before Roger Reed added a second in the 39th minute.

Saturday 1st November 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Preston v Millwall : 3-2 defeat

A cracking match from Deepdale so Preston eventually lose by a single goal to a determined Millwall side.

Richard Cresswell opened the scoring from Preston in 11mins before Per Ciljan Skjelbred levelled in the 13th minute.Mohammed Abdellaoui gave Millwall the lead in the 18th minute before Cresswell made it 2-2 with his second in the 28th minute.Kevin Braniff rounded off a hectic first half with Millwall's third in the 40th minute.

Both teams had chances to add to their scores in the second half but were unable to take them.

Wednesday 5th November 2008, Carling Cup 4th Round, Preston v Liverpool : 3-0 defeat

The mighty Liverpool came to Preston in the Carling Cup today and there were few surprises here as the Premiership team ran out comfortable winners.

Goals comming from Luis Garcia(10,19) and Djibril Cisse(28).

Preston didn't play overly badly they where in the end simply outclassed by a better team.

Saturday 15th Novermber 2008, Coca Cola Championship, Preston v Sunderland : 1-1 draw

A boring game here only punctuated by 2 goals one from either side.Aranda gave Sunderland the lead in 29th minute before Roger Reed pulled Preston level in the 51st minute. Then the game died on its arse again.

And thats my report based on my assistants time in charge, and forgive spelling mistakes as I was trying to feed my baby while typing this icon_biggrin.gif

And I hope the image works icon_razz.gif

Sky Sports Breaking News!!!!

After Steve Bruce was sensationally sacked by Newcastle Freddy Shepard, speculation has been mounting about who is going to replace him. Fulham manager Andrew Hepburn has been linked with the job along with others but no firm offer has come in from Newcastle for the services of Hepburn. Hepburn commented,

" All this specualtion linking me with the Newcastle job is just ridiculous. I am perfectly happy with life at Fulham, I have got my new team playing some great football and challenging for a European spot. Why would I want to leave?? Mr Fayed has shown a lot of faith in me and given me a lot of money to try and make Fulham a force and I am not going to let him down but leaving for Newcastle. Anyway Newcastle is not as good as London. The birds in London are on a whole new level to those in Newcastle. Plus it's freezing up north!!!!

So Hepburn has already distanced himself from the Newcastle job. Stay tuned to find out more on this incredible story!!!

Titties Update

So here we are with an up to date update for tonights session with great news for titties fans - read on.

Starting League Position

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

| 6th | | Gillingham | | 18 | 7 | 9 | 2 | 23 | 12 | +11 | 30 |

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

| 7th | | Bristol C | | 18 | 8 | 4 | 6 | 23 | 19 | +4 | 28 |

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

| 8th | | Nottm Forest | | 18 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 23 | 18 | +5 | 27 |

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

With a mixed set of results recently ending with a draw against Stoke Bristol manager Johnston is looking to turn things around starting with a home game against Steff's Preston:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Playing at home, against a team in the bottom half of the table, and of course we'd be considered favourites, but when you are playing against a rival manager anything can happen, so I'm not taking anything for granted and I'll field the best team available to me and hope for a win. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Bristol City 3 Preston north End 0

It looks as though the pundits were right about this game making the Titties the favourites to win. With the shots flying in from the start. But Preston manage to keep their goal free of titties for the first half and even begin to claw their way back in with a few chances of their own. But the introduction of Pisculichi at half time totally turned things around. Giving Bristol more width down the left meant crosses were flying in causing Preston all sorts of problems. Finally after 59 minutes a corner finds Butt at the edge of the area and his shot is parried only as far as Linz who swivels and fires past the keeper. 10 minutes later a great run from Pisculichi finds himself one on one with the keeper. His shot is saved but the ball finds itself at the foot of Michael Keen who shoots into an empty net making it 2-0. 12 minutes later Pisculichi runs down the left and crosses to the front post where Linz glances a header past the Preston keeper giving him his second of the game and Bristol's third. There were a number of top performances in that match with Pisculichi in particular turning the game around, however the MOM award is awarded to Michael Keen for his great play and a great goal.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">I'm totally delighted with that win, it's always good to beat your rival, and what's even better is that we have now moved up into the playoff zone. With some more performances like that one we may still be there come the end of the season. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

In other news summer signing Marlon Harewood has moved to Crystal palace on loan for 3 months.

After an impressive home win the titties now heas out to play Millwall, another bottom half team in the hope of another 3 points.

Millwall 0 Bristol City 5

Bristol really wanted to prove that they deserve to be in the playoff zone in this game by going all out from the start. 4 minutes in and Job switches to Pisculichi who fires a shot past the keeper to make it 1-0. 10 minutes later some great passing between Job and Hofmann saw Job slamming the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0. Another 10 minutes later and Pisculichi plays the ball to Nicky Butt on the edge of the area who takes a chance and it pays off, a lovely strike from outside the box. 12 minutes later and this time it's Linz who tries his luck from the edge of the area, however his shot is parried. Pisculichi picks up on the loose ball and plays the ball into Keen who has an easy tap in for 4-0. The 5th and final goal comes from Michael Keen who is fed through from Nicky butt on 66 minutes. Once again the choice for man of the match is a hard one with a number of great performances. But with 1 goal, 2 assists and a top notch performance Pisculichi definitely deserved it.

Another great result for the titties and especially promising that the goals are coming from all over the pitch and not just one person.

Bristol City 2 Norwich 0

Another home game against lower oposition for the titties and confidence is high following 2 great performances and the fans are looking for this form to continue. However the first half of this game doesn't suggest that it will with no goals and no shots on target. But 5 minutes into the second half and Pisculichi runs down the left and floats a cross to Hofmann who powers a header past the keeper. With 72 minutes on the clock Hofmann grabs his second and seals the win for the titties. He was supplied by a good cross from the right this time from Wayne Routledge. Despite grabbing 2 goals Hofmann was beaten to the MOM award as it goes once again to pisculichi.

Another good win for the titties keeping us in contention for promotion. It's been a great month for the titties and rightly so the monthly awards were all taken by one tit or the other:

Manager of the Month David Johnston

Player of the Month Leonardo Pisculichi

Young Player of the Month Michael Keen

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">I'm obviously ecstatic to have received another award for our team's performance this month but I merely pick the team, the players are the real stars. I've spoken to Leo and Mike and both are delighted to have received awards, however at such a young age Michael is beginning to feel the pressure of being in the limelight, so I'll have to take care of him over the next few weeks. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Sheffield United 0 Bristol City 1

So the titties make it a clean sweep in tonights session with a victory away at Sheffiled united, however this game wasn't quite a walk over as the 2 star players were unavailable, Michael Keen is unfit following a slight injury in training and Pisculichi is suspended after picking up 5 yellow cards. The team take to the park full of confidence none-the-less and are able to stay on form. With the only goal of the game coming from Wayne Routledge after Radzewicz doing all the work on the left and leaving Wayne with a simple tap into an open net. That was on the half hour mark and no other goals were recorded for the rest of the game. For his great play on the left and filling Pisculichi's boots nicely, Marcin Radzewicz was handed the MOM award.

Final League Position

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

| 4th | | Ipswich | | 21 | 12 | 6 | 3 | 40 | 26 | +14 | 42 |

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

| 5th | | Bristol C | | 22 | 12 | 4 | 6 | 34 | 19 | +15 | 40 |

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

| 6th | | Portsmouth | | 22 | 10 | 8 | 4 | 35 | 23 | +12 | 38 |

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

So sitting 5th place and comfortably in the playoff zone, Johnston is very happy following tonights session and looks forward to Thursday, which will kick off with a home game against 7th place Nottingham Forrest before going back to the start and facing Rick's Bournemouth for the second time.

Key Players this Session

Leonardo Pisculichi was on form scoring 1 goal and setting up 5 in only 3 games and deservedly winning the player of the month award.

Michael Keen also hit some form in his 3 games scoring 3 and winning the young player of the month award.

Finally Steffen hofmann has to be commended for his fine performances, 2 goals and 1 assist.

Top Scorer of the Session

Michael Keen with 3 goals in 3 games from midfield.

Most Assists of the Session

Leonardo Pisculichi with 5 assists in 3 games from the left wing.

Alright lads, just to let you know I have some bad news for the titties. I have to leave my ass man in charge tonight as I have to work. I'm going to Dublin this weekend so I couldn't get tonight off, which means my chances of promotion are well and truly over. But maybe my new ass man will do a bit better.

Anyway, I'll get my update from Thursday done later and i'll see you all on Thursday.
