Scouting Ranges Athletic

Anyone else run into this? My board are simply refusing to extend my scouting range? Im Athletic Bilbao in 2021 and have a lot of money (as you tend to rack up with Athletic after focusing on the academy and dealing with what you start with). They instantly agree to everything else I ask, such as extending stadium, training facilities, etc and I still have 50m left over in surplus transfer budget each season after I buy my few basque / spanish youths and maybe the odd 25m basque superstar who pops up outside of san memes every 5 years.

But everytime I ask them to extend the scouting range past spain they say no way. Now I know I can only sign basque players, but at this stage of the game, there are quite a few basuq lads floating about other European leagues that I cannot scout that I would like to.

Is this on purpose? It seems a little strange, but let me know if anyone else who is athletic has been able to get the board to extend scouting range past spain. Essentially Im spending like 70k a week on 20 odd scouts who I only use once per year to scout the youth intake across Spain. Would be nice to keep tabs on 2 or 3 european based targets who could play for me.

It will have been a deliberate decision due to the Basque only rule, it make sense for the board to be unwilling to invest in a vast scouting network that would be fairly worthless.

You do make a good point about Basque players who are plying their trade overseas & a possible feature idea could be to allow scouts to be sent to report on any Basque player within a defined radius.

Cool, yeah it would be nice to just be able have a task for scouts to scout "basques outside of spain". As you said, not really worth having a scout with tasks in each country / region but someone who reports on the top Basque players outside my core region would be ideal.

It makes it trickier not having a scout report to rely on but I guess its just a crutch anyway. I just compare stats and form more often in these cases. Makes me take a little longer to jump into a transfer, which is actually more realistic I guess. There are generally never any youth basques in other european leagues so can still scout for potential in Spain.

Theoretically there should also be some Basque newgen's in France but I'm not too sure if the game produces them in the appropriate French regions.

There are, but we are talking very small amounts. As in there are about 12 french basque players in my save. I've only French Division 2 loaded. I had the national league loaded for a while but there was still nothing coming through. Even Aviron Bayonnais who are (as far as I know) a basque based club playing in France, do not generate any basque players. There are just some random French guys. I seen a few non spanish / non french basques in the save as well. There is currently a portuguese player who is basque yet he is neither spanish or french. And there was a German who retired a few years ago. Kind of interesting that they qualify as basque but not french / spanish.

I mentioned this last year. Players like Arteta at Arsenal and the Basque defender at Legia in Poland couldn't be scouted.

You should at least be able to scout France. Slightly ridiculous.

No scouting outside of Spain at all for my save. That similar to anyone elses? I thought I was allowed scout France alright at the start of the game, but I might be mixing it up with FM12.

I know that in FM12 that I was certainly able to scout France and as far as I remember some other Euro countries.

Yes, a bit silly as there's frequently Basque players signed by top clubs. Also would be nice to scout U-16 players from Spain playing outside the borders. A few versions ago, after becoming a worldwide club and bugging the board for years they agree to increase it, but I've only played 3 seasons this year.
