Swallow1050's Journeyman adventure

After lurking on the FMCU forums for the last few weeks and after starting a journeyman save with AFC Wimbledon; which has ended up as a single team save.

I’ve decided to make a new journeyman save and actually document it on here.

My whole FM career, since Championship Manager has been to start as Manchester United and do one team careers until I eventually get bored of winning everything and wait for the new FM to come out.

This year however I haven’t played as United once, but had saves with QPR and AFC Wimbledon.

What I have decided now to do is a career that doesn’t involve England much at all; maybe I’ll manage United in the distant future but I would like to travel around the leagues of Europe first.

The Leagues that i loaded are as follows:

Austria

Belgium

Bulgaria

Croatia

Czech Republic

Denmark

England

Finland

France

Germany

Greece

Holland

Hungary

Ireland

Italy

Norway

Poland

Portugal

Romania

Russia

Scotland

Serbia

Slovakia

Slovenia

Spain

Sweden

Switzerland

Turkey

Ukraine

Wales

With the exception of England (League 2) all the divisions were loaded using the 13.3.0 Update database; making the approximate player count 123,000 as i used the Large database option.

I decided that my manager would be Ross Schmeichel, a Danish Sunday league footballer with Scottish heritage (as a Utd fan growing up as goal keeper for my school; Schmeichel was my idol)

I also decided that as I am Danish I would only apply for teams in Scandinavia or Scotland that are in the lowest league loaded.

I applied for all available jobs that were in my criteria and these were my offers:

After reviewing each club, i narrowed it down to two clubs: Fk Mandalskameratene and Egersund. By some coincidence they happened to be in the same league with one point separating them after 10 games played:

The clubs seem pretty similar, with decent size stadiums and decent facilities for this level. Both clubs have very few season ticket holders which suggests poor turnout to games, however hopefully with good results we can improve that!

Egersund has better facilities and also good recruitment and coaching which is good positive to me as i like to develop young players. However with the chairman looking to sell, i'm not sure its the best situation to join a club with.

Mandalskameratene have a bigger stadium and have a better value with a chairman that is happy to stay, their ticket and season prices are higher which suggests better finances.

Its a difficult choice, but i am veering towards Egersund due to their better facilities and the chance of developing young players which could help if we are short on money.

Egersund

Their nickname is Tigrene (the Tigers) :D

What Wikipedia says:

Egersunds IK was founded in 1919, and played in local leagues until 1939, when they qualified for the top-tier of the new nationwide league, Norgesserien (League of Norway). The club's first season was interrupted by World War II, and when the league was reorganized after the war, Egersund ended up in the Second Division. Further demotions followed, and the club has never been in the top tier of Norwegian football again. In 1957, Egersund were promoted to the second tier, introducing one of the better periods of the club's history. A cup match away at Viking in Stavanger in 1960, drew a crowd of 4269, the greatest attendance for any Egersund match, home or away. In 1961, the club reached the third round of the cup, a feat it was not to achieve again until 2012.[2]

In the early 2000s, Egersund played most seasons in the fourth tier, regularly fighting for promotion to the third tier (2. Divisjon). In 2006, the club employed former Northern Ireland international Jimmy Quinn as manager, but he left after a brief time. In 2011, the club succeded in winning promotion, and in 2012 managed to survive a season in 2. Divisjon without being relegated, for the first time in nearly 30 years

Good luck mate, hope it's a good save for you
Good luck fella.
Good luck dude!

Thanks :D

Yeah, you definitely need a new keeper :D. Although Sleveland should be an able enough back-up for that level.

Yeah first step is find a half decent keeper that's unattached as the transfer window isn't open until the end of the season now :(

JUNE 2013

Second Division Group 3

resultsjune.png

Only played one game this month all the other results were under the previous regime, not a brilliant start to my tenure. Attacking wise i thought we had some good build up play but our shooting was less than impressive. Their shooting wasn't much better either but my goalkeeper didn't stop much; i can't blame the keeper completely though, our defence was less than perfect.

Transfers in

Just a few free transfers to strengthen the depth of my squad and new goalkeeper!

Chris Rodd

Jens Madsen Hordvik

Next Time...

Only two matches home and away in July against teams below us in the table.

JULY 2012

Second Division Group 3

resultsjuly.png

Two games this month and the first game was pretty terrible; made no chances and just kept giving the ball way, my players hadn't mastered my tactics at all. The second game however was a much better performance; we should of scored more but i was just happy to win.

Just a few more free transfers to strengthen the depth of my squad.

Next Time...

Four matches in the league this month; two home and two away, one of them against 2nd place Jerv. Its also the start of the transfer window; however with a transfer embargo in place, it remains to be seen if i will be able to bring anyone in.
