majorkong
So I have a fitness coach, Paul Winsper, that was 5* when I signed him. I believe his fitness score was 20 and he must have had high determination and discipline also. All of a sudden, his fitness coaching dropped to 15, his determination to 12, and his discipline to 10, and now he's just 3.5*. Does anyone know what mechanism causes this? He was 48 or 49 when it happened. Is it random?

j4y_z
Coaches decline the same way players do. So as a coach is reaching the end of their career it is possible to see attributes drop. As for a fitness coach, an attribute drop seems a bit odd to me, because the principles of fitness coaching (getting fit, staying fit) are pretty much the same all the time. As for a tactical coach it may be logical, because the tactical aspects of football change over time and an elderly (or say old school) coach may not adjust to the modern style as well as a young coach. However, if you look at Jupp Heynckes for example, he's pretty old, probably retiring this summer, but he got better and better with age.

It's harder to teach fitness as you get older because you can't get as involved with it as needs to be. Your body naturally slows down, so while you can still do the theory side of things, actually showing them in practice is a lot harder the older you get. Good point, though I wouldn't say it's necessary to be involved that much. I think for a fitness coach experience is of invaluable importance. To know the right combination of exercises, diet plans, pre-season preparation etc. Rather than being involved, in my opinion it is much more important to make sure your players have the right schedules and execute the exercises the proper way. I'd say, this is all a matter of experience and qualification. Just my opinion, I don't have any problems at all with how it's implemented in FM. I actually have a Premier Fitness Diploma in Personal Training, it was the first qualification I learn for the line of work I do (boxing). From what I've studied and learnt a football fitness coach is slightly different because they don't usually do diet plans etc. Clubs tend to have nutritionists for those type of things. The fitness coach tend to be more about building and maintaining fitness via activities. They also tend to be very hands on and one of the reasons why majority of fitness coaches are quite young compared to the other coaches who study the mental and technical sides of the game. majorkong
It surprised me, though, as he really fell off a cliff in a short period of time. Wonder if this is a consistent pattern for fitness coaches in game more so than for other coaches.

Yeah, you might be right, I googled some fitness coaches of the Bundesliga and none of them is > 50. So, a decline in fitness coaching seems to be right, then, but why are they dropping points in determination and discipline, too?

Azz_88
Maybe the coach had recently divorced his wife or lost a close family member? Maybe he has resorted to the bottle and as such his stats have suffered a bit - get him to rehab mate
