Suffering from homesickness.... Seriously?

Recommended Posts

Yeh I have

Like Coloccini IRL this year

Tevez IRL for spells in recent years.

I don't take homesickness to mean that they can't adjust to living where they are, just that they want to go back. I don't think it is unrealistic at all.

I suppose when you put it like that it does make sense. it just shocked me to see it, especially from Reina.

What IS slightly unrealistic about it is that when I've had players complain about home sickness, and subsequently request a transfer (a la Alvaro Pereira in my Inter game) they often move to a club in the same country that they're currently in!

I can see why you were confused, and indeed others on the forum have been similarly confused over the same point.

As the other poster said there could be lots of reasons which only grow stronger with time, rather then being instant.

I haven't lived in the UK for about 4 years now, and I'm 100% happy with that, but by the time I ever start having kids I'll be wanting to go back.

The game allows you to give him a leave of absence for a month, doesn't really help with the wanting to raise kids at home justification though....!

That would indeed be a bit unrealistic.

Even suggesting that the club they sign for has more of their own nationality or whatever is stretching it a bit.

Although, didn't Tevez basically do that IRL? at least to some degree.

I'm sure the AI doesn't include such treachery though, so it doesn't explain the indeed partially unrealistic AI behaviour.

Reina has left and joined Sevilla back in his homeland. Normally I wouldn't have allowed this but I picked up Marc-Andre ter Stegen for free at the beginning of the season. Plus Reina is nearly 35 now haha.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen... the solution to every goalkeeping conundrum.

Back on point though, this reminds me of when Sol Campbell left Arsenal to play "abroad"... or Portsmouth as everyone else calls it.

I had a Brazilian player suddenly become homesick at the end of the season in England. I swiftly arranged a 2 week tour of Brazil, specifically electing to play his hometown club as one of my opponents. The day of my first match out there his unhappiness disappeared entirely. No idea if my tour was what caused it, but I took it to mean that he just needed a little visit to become focused again.

However, an alternative explanation is that he took one look around at the level of sanitation in the country and was swiftly reminded that the grass isn't always greener. Two of my players caught serious viral infections and were out for the whole season, luckily they were rubbish players that I would have sacrificed anyway to save my star Brazilian.

I wonder if that was anything to do with being in Brazil? Somehow i can't imagine it being so, is there a field in the DB for 'cleanliness' or anything?

My interpretation was that the serious viral infections were 100% related to being in Brazil. Only other time one of my players caught this was with their International team at the Olympics in Brazil.

Edit: In mt time editing I am 100% sure that I have seen editable fields that make this possible. Not sure if it is a field in the injury e.g. 'occurs in countries x,y,z' or if it was in the country editing portion, where you can set the economic makeup of countries.

Hopefully a hardcore editor/someone with the editor can confirm, but I am almost certain that a serious viral infection isn't just random chance, and occurs in less developed countries.
