Steam and its frustrations!

Recommended Posts

I am new to this forum but maybe you might be able to help me, even though this thread may be in the wrong place...

Right i used to play football manager all the time, and somewhat stopped due to a problem with my laptop. Now i dont have steam on this laptop anymore, which is not a problem because that is easily downloaded, but a problem i do have..

1. i do not have the account name.

2. The email address i have set up with that account was hacked and closed down.

So as you might or might not know i am having problems accessing my steam account, which means i cant play FM13. Because you need either the email or the account name to acces your account, i tried making a support account on steam's website but it is just not working, why is it so complicated?!

Someone please help me before i go on a mad crazy filled rampage against the creaters of steam!

I personally would have signed up to a new email account (gmx.com or other) and created a new steam account to get the fix! Only problem is your achievments would be on the other account :(
And his game. Would need to repurchase for a new account.

Based on the scenario he has described, it is woefully unlucky and I feel his pain, but I don't see how it is steam's fault.

I would recommend collecting all the info he can remember on his account. - Name, steam name, associated credit cards, and perhaps phone steam customer service (if such a thing exists) rather than email. Could be a unfruitful scenario.

To be honest, I don't think the move to online/steam gaming creates new rights for the purchaser that didn't exist before, I don't think steam are obligated to sort this out, unlucky as it is.

If we were still in the disc-era, and you broke or lost your disc, you wouldn't magically expect the retailer to replace it.

You have essentially broke/lost your account, and although retailers will do more to help than they could ever do in the old days of lost discs, they can't just hand out free fixes to everything.

My reluctanct advice (IF CONTACTING STEAM DOESN'T WORK) would be to create a new steam account and buy the game again, try to find it on sale somewhere. As FM 14 approaches there should be more regular deductions from FM13 if you shop around.

If the e-mail address in question was closed down does that mean that there is a possibility of just creating an identical account and then resending the steam e-mail?

As opposed to having lost access to the account?

Alternatively, could you get a new steam account and then spend hours searching for your account? Did you have friends who would have your name in their friends list? Did you ever post anything on the forums? If you can find your username this way then perhaps you can then just try and remember the password?

I have made a new steam account, but obviously i cant use the Key Code again for FM13.

What happened was my old email adress was locked because they had reason to belive it was hacked, and i have no ways of accesing the account. I have tried every username i can imagine but this is still not good.

Steam's website is a nightmare to use, i have set up a support account, but can not post a quistion because apparently i have posted too often (i haven't made one post  ) This steam thing is honestly i nightmare!

I know my password for my account, but that's about it. Does anyone know if you can contact steam any other way than asking a quistion, such as a phone number or an email adress?

I guess it is a choice between trying harder to get through to steam, and or finding the time playing FM more valuable and rebuying it.

If you don't find it with a sizeable reduction (~40%) I would STRONGLY recommend waiting and resuming your efforts to get in touch with steam.

Only if you see it reduced is it possible that the ease of buying it again and not dealing with customer service would outweigh the hassle of customer service.

DO NOT pay full price for it now!

looking around it isn't reduced anywhere atm, apart from amazon at 17.99 then you need to wait for delivery.

I would keep going trying tog et in contact with steam before paying full price, it could get reduced again at any point in coming weeks

should have contacted steam support imo.

But the main problem here imo is your security. Make sure you are running a good antivirus program, use malwarebytes every few weeks and most importantly....never use the same password your email uses for anything else, dont download and install "dodgy" apps from "dodgy" websites, dont click odd looking links in emails or any attachments in emails without scanning them with antivirus, dont send personal info/passwords etc in emails etc......just basically be careful and be smart.

Use this to downpatch your steam account :)

you could contact support if you had your info, they can change the email for you.

I have never had any issues with steam support, they are pretty quick BUT do operate a strict "only this once" policy.

i wonder if gmails Mail Fetcher would help?

http://lifehacker.com/376367/consolidate-multiple-email-addresses-with-gmail

when i closed my btinternet account a few years ago, i set up a forwarding address for all my emails. i had to do this within the bt account. i still get emails forwarded from the btinternet email address that is closed.

could gmails Mail Fetcher mean you could set up the forwarding from the Receiving Account, rather than the Sender, though?

I'm pretty sure steam could find you by your name and other personal details. They could then do one of 2 things, update details to a new email address and deactivate or close account down. Also by doing so, they would be able to establish that you own the code and transfer to a new account set up in the absence of old email address.... This therefore would have saved you £20 and possibly saved all achievements and stats!!

But without contacting steam that's a pure guess based in how electronic subscriptions should work....
