How do you avoid buying an injury prone player?

Recommended Posts

Bought Wellington Nem in 2013 (game year) for a fair whack and the fella has only played about 15 games for me. Injuries since joining are : Jaw - 4 weeks (training), Achilles - 4 weeks (training), Ribs - 5 days (match), Hamstring - 3 months (match), Hamstring - 3 months (match), Calf - 3 - 4 months (match). Add to that various thigh and face issues that were resolved in a matter of days.

His record only goes back to when I bought him in 2013 so I can't see any previous issues. His natural fitness is 14, stamina 14 and strength 12 which are better than my other winger Matt Jarvis whose worst injury was a 3 week hamstring problem. Ok he has quick acceleration which IRL can cause a few hamstring issues but again I have other players with quick acceleration but not the injury problems.

I have an average training schedule so not one that is high intensity. I admit I rushed him back on one injury but have been careful since giving 45 minute run outs for the reserves then a few sub appearances but still the problems continue.

I suspect injury proneness is a hidden stat but I was wondering if anyone can avoid buying a suspect player or if you do buy one is there anything that you do to help him get over reoccurring problems. I may try and sell to recoup some money which is a shame because on his day he is a good player.

I may have just been lucky I signed this player on 5.7.2057 and sold him on 2.12.2060. He was listed as injury prone when I signed him but I put him on a light training schedule and as you can see he was not injured for me but as soon as he went within a month he was out for 3 months. So a lot can be down to luck.

If a player is injury prone the scouts will list it as a main weakness or a specific weakness.
On most cases this will happen, but sometimes (this happened to me in a couple of cases) the player has other weaknesses and the scout report doesn't mention the injury proneness. Then in the press conefernce to introduce the player I'm asked why did I buy an injury prone player.

Fair point I guess with it only listing two weaknesses then injury prone might be their third weakness. I think something like injury prone should be shown regardless it's an important thing.

TIME MACHEEN! You'd think we'd be much sturdier in the future.

wow. Because I also bought Wellington Nem for my Man Utd side and he's played for me more than, say, RVP has.

I had a star striker in FM11 who was not injury prone, but as luck goes he was injured for a month or two. I carefully nurtured him back to health and in the first match, after a few minutes he was injured again, this time for several weeks. Did the same this time around, and in his first match after the second injury he was injured after an evil tackle and I ragequitted. Upon reload, he was injured again, and again. I think I reloaded at least three times before he survived the match. After that, injury free for several more seasons.

Nem is probably your star player, so he is OI'd to death... literally. Until he is 100% match fit don't start him in first team games.

  • 3 months later...

In a previous iteration I bought Michael Dawson and he was more or less injured for about 4 years or so. I even wrote a (stylised with added fictional drama version of the)story about it in the stories forum. I was annoyed, but after a while I looked forward to seeing what his next calamity would be.
