Scotsman27
I'm currently managing in non-league football where I've taken Daventry Town from the eighth tier to the Conference in seven seasons. Naturally I started out with Sunday league reputation and my reputation is regional. However, whenever there is a sacking in the Conference/League Two my name is never considered for the job, instead ex-professionals such as Marlon Harewood, Matt Oakley, Danny Butterfield etc are always given the job, despite having no managerial experience and only being a coach/assistant manager. Now I don't expect to be offered every job under the sun, but it occurred to me that the reason this happens is due to these ex-pros probably having a better reputation as me, despite no experience and me being one of the most promising non-league managers. It's not as if I would be unattainable as I only sign one year extensions to my contract. I see similar issues with player reputation, Conference strikers who score 30-40 goals a season would be snapped up by Championship teams IRL regardless of reputation or CA, in FM they're not noticed at all. Reputation is the one issue I want fixed in the next instalment of FM, I think that if they get it right it (as it seemed to be in previous versions) then it would reflect real life more accurately and become a better game. Herbert Fandel
I can imagine its frustrating, but in my non-league BSN file I started Sunday League and went Histon > Bury > Crewe > QPR > Leicster > Derby with only a BSN title and a League 2 playoff victory to my name. Sometimes the rep is broken the other direction as well, so although I absolutely agree with you there needs to be a fix, it isn't a straightforward one. Scotsman27
Wow, that's exactly how it seemed to work in previous FM's which I actually preferred. If you're a young manager who's achieved two promotions I don't see how it would be unrealistic to get a job at a league one team. Certainly more realistic than three promotions, an FA Trophy and being overlooked for Conference jobs by Marlon Harewood with < 5 determination and man management. Herbert Fandel
It should be added I was applying for jobs, rather than waiting to be picked. Given that your point was more about being linked to jobs rather than not getting them at all, I don't disagree with you there could be more linkings... Like you I was always on 1 year deals too
