Turkish Delight - A Youth Career In Turkey

A very promising first half of the season. We currently sit in 2nd place just one point off first place. We have been very solid defensively but not to effective going forward. We are limited as we only dont have an abundance of strikers. My top scorer and main striker is on 12 goals which is followed by his strike partner with 5 goals.

In the cup the board wanted us to reach the 3rd qualifying round and we exceeded their expectations by reaching the 4th qualifying round where we were knocked out by a Premier League side 2-0 after extra time. We were unlucky as we had a goal ruled out in normal time.

I'm really looking forward to getting my first youth intake as certain areas of my squad are ageing and will need replacing soon. Particularly in the centre of midfield and defence, I could also do with a new striker for some depth.

Youth Intake Day 12/13

What a fantastic first youth intake. I have given out 5 YP tags and I'm really looking forward to seeing how these players progress over the coming years. There are also some untagged players who I think will have a future with the club.

Youth Intake

Ergun Levent - Potential to become a decent Premier League player according to my assistant. He will be getting some game time next season as the centre of my midfield is Ageing.

Ahmet Sinasi Ozcan - Could be a leading first division player. Looks decent for our current level. Much needed depth in the centre of my midfield.

Ediz Akarsu - Another potential leading first division stiker. I needed a striker to come through. He will get some game time as one of my strikers is to turn 36 soon.

Osman Ucar - Decent young goalkeeper. Both of my other keepers are 22 but I will give him games for experience next season.

Ali Nazmi Tuncay - Last player to get a tag is a centre back and as we have ageing defenders he will probably get some game time next season.

Altay SK - Turkish Second Division - 2012/13

I'm very pleased with my first season at the club. We held top spot in the league for a long time until we threw it away with 3 defeats in our final 4 games. We went into the play-offs but we lost 2-0 in the quarter finals so our season ended there. Personally having next season in the Second Division could be good as it will give me a chance to give some of my youngsters some game time.

Cups - Made the 4th Qualifying round before losing to a Premier Division side in extra time. Good effort.

Squad - Ageing players in midfield and an ageing striker are likely to be dropped to give the YP players some game time.

Finances - In debt. Didn't really expect anything else here.

Key Player Profiles:

Abdulkadir Kuzey - 22 year old striker. Scored 20 in 29. Decent season, looking for more next season.

Murat Uluc - Good defensve partnership with Yilmaz. Shame he is 32.

Mehmet Yilmaz - Uluc's defensive partner. Great season, 31 years old so not long left now.

Erdal Gunes - 11 assists from wide midfield. Most creative player in the side.

Good first season with a very good youth intake. Looking forward to next season so I can play some youngsters.

Pre Season 13/14

A good unbeaten pre season for us. Played against a couple of non league teams, 2 teams from the other Division 2 group of which we both won and a 1-1 draw with a team from the first division.

In these friendlies I have given YP01 and YP02 starts in the centre of my midfield and they have played very well so I will be starting with them this season. Ergun Levent YP01 is already attracting attention from a Premier Division side. Thankfully I have him tied down to a 3 year contract. YP03 Ediz Akarsu played upfront and will start the season in my starting line up as I want to give him some time to get him to progress as the only striker I have who is better than him is 36 so he needs to get up to scratch quickly. He did manage 3 goals in our 6 friendlies.

Mid - Season Update 2013/14

We started pretty poorly this season and found ourself near the bottom of the league after 6 games. We havent lost since the 6th game and we have moved up into 2nd place. I've given my youngsters a chance in the league and I havent been let down.

In the cup we just managed to get past our first opponents winning on penalties. We were then hammered 4-0 by higher division opponents in the next round.

Were on a good run so hopefully this can continue and hopefully we can remain in the playoffs. Looking forward to another youth intake, hopefully it will be as good as last season.

Youth Intake Day 13/14

Not as good as last year but still a couple of tags to give out. Very defensive intake with not a single striker coming through. This is something that will need to be addressed soon as we are light on strikers. We were light on left sided defenders as well but thankfully got two decent looking fullbacks this intake.

Youth Intake

Yenal Yapa - Pick of the bunch. Hopefully will go on take over at the heart of my defence in the coming seasons. He has the potential to be a leading first division centre back.

Ridvan Kurukoc - Another central midfielder to get a tag. I will be retraining him as a right midfielder as I think he could be a useful player in a couple of positions

Metahan Kilic - Young left wingback. I will need to retrain him as a left back to fit our formation but I think he has a future at the club as we are weak at left back.

At the moment I've been signing them all to youth contracts for squad depth. The players I tag tend to go straight into the senior squad whilst the others remain in the youth team and I see how they progress. I tend to give tags to players over 4 stars PA and 4 silver stars CA.

Altay SK - Turkish Second Division - 2013/14

The season didn't start very well as after 6 games we found ourselves close to the bottom of the table. I kept the faith in the youngsters I was playing and they began to perform and we swiftly moved up the table and into the play-offs. We never managed to challenge for the title but we had good form at the end of the season so I felt confident going into the play-offs. In our quarter final we edged passed Yeni Malatyaspor on penalties after a 2-2 draw. The Semi Final was another close affair with a narrow 3-2 victory against Sanyer. In the Final we completely outplayed Karsiyaka and won 2-0 to claim promotion to the Turkish 2nd tier.

Squad - Put faith in the youngsters from my first intake and they didn't let me down. Shipped out some of my ageing midfielders.

Finances - In debt. hopefully in Division 1 there is more money available.

Key Player Profiles:

Ahmet Sinasi Ozcan YP02 - 7.55 avg rating for the youngster. 15 assists and 7 goals! Great debut season.

Murat Uluc - Another solid season. Will be needed next season if we are to survive.

Ali Nazmi Tuncay YP05 - Was going to be a bit part player this season but my frst choice left back suffered a early injury and he had to fill in. Played well so kept him in the side. I see a future as Uluc's replacement n a few years time in the heart of my defence.

Erdal Gunes - 12 goals from right midfield. Didnt set many up which was a dissapointment.

Ediz Akarsu YP03 - Solid first season for the young striker. Took a while to get going but after the winter break was fantastic. 14 goals and 9 assists.

Very pleased to get promoted. Hopefully the players can step up and hopefully we can survive.

Pre Season 14/15

A mixed pre season from us this year. We won 2, lost 2 and drew 2 against mixed opposition. Plenty of players have left the club and I've promoted more youngsters to add some depth to my first team squad. Hopefully they can repay the faith in the first division.

We have suffered plenty of injuries in our friendlies with 5 players suffering injuries, including Ergun Levent YP01 who we had to send to a specialist following a hip injury. He will miss 3 months of the season which is a massive loss as he is our best player by quite a margin already. We also lost 2 of our 3 strikers to injuries and Ahmet Sinasi Ozcan YP02 for a couple of weeks. So we are already up against it for the coming season. Hopefully some players can really step up and put in a good performance for us.

Mid - Season Update 2014/15

Erdi Basaran - Great finishing already. Desperately needed as we dont score enough goals - hopefully he can do the job.

This division is a big step up. We started well and we were sat in the play-off positions after the 9th match of the season and we even found ourselves as high as 3rd place at one point. We then had a massive downturn in form and went 10 without getting a win and we now sit just outside the relegation zone. Hopefully we have enough about us to survive. The main issue with my squad is that its full of youngsters or ageing players. Within 2/3 seasons I imagine my entire starting 11 could be youth players with my older players getting worse or retiring!

We improved massively in the cup as we reach the 5th qualifying round which is where the big guns come in. We drew Galataseray at home and had a big pay day - unfortunately they destroyed us 4-0, we have a long long long way to go until we can think about challenging them!

Thankfully we won our final game before the winter break so hopefully we can push on afterwards and try to survive. If the worst happens and we get relegated I will use it to bring through even more youngsters and try and build in the lower league with youth to hopefully take us further in the long run!

Youth Intake Day 14/15

Easily the best intake I've had yet. I have given out 5 YP tags to players who my assistant manager believes will become very good players. These players all look to be very promising and a few of them can apparently become good Premier Division players.

- I dont play with a AMC and I have 2 very good central midfielders at the moment but he definately stands a chance of getting game time next season and I may try to tweak my tactics to accomodate him.

- Another AMC with massive potential. This guy can also play upfront so I think I will look to use him there over the coming seasons.

- Personally I'm not sure he will make it but my assistant believes in him so he will be given a chance and a tag.

- The standout goalkeeper in this intake which included 5 goalkeepers! Potential to be a good premier league keeper.

I had originally given out 6 YP tags but on review I have decided to take a tag away from Mehmet Erdem Ekinci because I dont think he will go into the first team any time soon.

Thanks, I'm glad to be back. It was actually a second season promotion, first season we lost in the play-offs. Unfortunately I think that I'm going to be back in that division as we are now in the relegation zone with 7 games to go... Wont be long until the end of the season and then I will know for sure.

Yeah hopefully so. We have 2 games to go now and we are pretty much certain to get relegated. We are 5 points away from safety and only 6 to play for. At least it was a good experience.

Altay SK - Turkish First Division - 2014/15

We actually started the season very well and I thought we would be ok. After 10 games we were sat in 8th and I was fairly confident that we would then survive. After this we just went into freefall and fell down the league very quickly. Our squad just simply wasnt cut out for this division yet and we were relegated with a game to go. We did manage to win our final game 2-1 to regain some pride. Thankfully the board are still on my side as they offered me a new 2 year deal.

Cups - Best result yet as we made the 5th Qual. round and got to face Galataseray. They destroyed us but we had a nice payday.

Squad - The old players just fell off the cliff and didnt perform and my youngsters just were not ready to step up. I can take the positives that it was a good learning experience. After relegation 2 of my YP players asked to leave. I have rejected the requests as they have 2 years left so hopefully I can tempt them to stay within this time.

Finances - Made 916k over the season and now have £364k in the bank. I also managed to get the board to increase my youth coaching which is big news.

Key Player Profiles:

Ahmet Sinasi Ozcan YP02 - He managed to step up well and didnt look out of place. Has asked to leave but I wont let him go.

Murat Uluc - Best player again. He is unhappy about relegation so I may let him leave.

Ali Nazmi Tuncay YP05 - Another good season at left back. Next season will play at centre back. Has also asked to leave but will be forced to stay.

Hopefully the experience of playing in the higher division can help us in the long run. I will be promoting more youngsters for next season and having a big revamp. Hopefully have a comfortable mid table campaign with a much younger squad.

The board actually rewarded me with a new 2 year contract I've had a big revamp and my squad is now an awful lot younger. My oldest player is 24 and I have 4 players over 20, the rest are all teenagers. The board want a top half finish this season and I would also be happy with that with my new look squad. A couple more years in this division could help us survive the next time we get promoted.

Pre Season 15/16

A very good pre season after our relegation last year. We won 5 matches and drew the other 2. In the process we scored 37 goals and they came from all areas of the pitch. I also managed to have private chats with my unhappy YP players and persuaded them to stay and got them all to sign brand new 5 year contracts which is massive news. We have an average age of only 17.96 for the coming season but I'm hoping that the players can perform to a acceptable level and hopefully we can get a mid-table finish.

I'm pretty confident going into this season that we should be able to get a nice comfortable position. If we can do this it will be a massive platform going forward onto bigger and better things

Mid - Season Update 2015/16

Emre Basarir -CA is already 3.5 stars with a 5 star PA. My assistant already rates him as the second best central defender in my side and believes he has the potential to be a leading Premier Division defender. I have extremely high hopes for this guy.

Well this season didn't start very well but we soon picked up. We lost 3 of our first 4 games and I thought maybe I had changed too much too soon. Thankfully we then picked up and moved up the league. At the halfway point we are currently just about in the play-off positions. We have been a bit inconsistent so far this season but that is expected with such a young squad. My only non youth teamers in my favoured starting 11 are my left and right wingers who are both 21.

We look alot better going forward now but we are a little bit weak in defence. Hopefully as my players get older they will perform better.

The cup was a dissapointment as went out in the 2nd qual. round - First time we havent gone further into the competition. I would of liked to make the 5th qual round and draw one of the big guns for a nice payday.

Yeah my training facilities are a bit annoying but my other players are growing fast with first team opportunities. In other news the board have just increased my junior coaching for the second season running and it is now rated as Good!! This could be massive in the forthcoming seasons.

Altay SK - Turkish Second Division - 2015/16

I'm actually very pleased with this season. I thought it would be a transitional season and I was looking for a strong mid-table finish. We ended up finishing 4th and in the playoff positions. We lost on penalties 3-2 to the team who only lost the title on the final day of the season on goal difference. With such a young squad I'm really pleased with this and hopefully we can do better next season.

Ediz Akarsu[/url] - My main striker. He he had stayed fit all season we could of finished higher up. Managed 18 goals with 8 assists in 22 matches.

Cups - Knocked out at the first hurdle. Poor.

Squad - An average age of just 17.96 at the start of the season. My youngsters performed very well and hopefully having next season in Division 2 can help our progression. My YP player from this years intake looks like a star already and he has already been called up to the Turkey u19 squad at 15 and without playing a single game for me.

Finances - Lost money. Need a cup run for next season.

Ergun Levent - The captain had his best season in a Altay shirt. 8 Assists from the centre of midfield with 6.4 tackles a game.

Ismet Gokseloglu - A Altay original. Left winger who had a magical season. 11 goals and 14 assists. Best season yet.

Solid season for the youngsters and with my new youth teamer being eligible to play next season I cant wait to see him create a good partnership with Tuncay. We had the best attack in the league which is extremely promising, not so promising is that we have the worst defensive record in the league. Bring on next season!

Pre Season 16/17

A comfortable pre season with 4 victories and a single defeat to higher division opponents. Again we found scoring goals very simple. Only one player has been promoted to my first team which is last years youth team graduate. He will be playing at the heart of my defence this season. On the eve on the first game of the season the average age of my team has increased to 18.80 and all of the players should be use to playing together as a group so hopefully we can have a successful season. The board want the playoffs and so do I.

I was given a new 2 year deal over the summer so the board are still happy with me. Hopefully come youth intake day we can get some more quality with our increased junior coaching.

Mid - Season Update 2016/17

Gokhan Durmosoglu - Leading Premier Division potential according to my assistant. Will be given a chance over the coming seasons.

Solid first half of the season as we are currently in and around the top of the table. At points we have been top of the league so hopefully we could be within a chance of gaining promotion this season. We have been struggling with injuries yet again this season and I cannot seem to play my strongest line up consistantly which is not helping us at all. We also have problems when the Turkish under 19's play as we lose 4 players then but our match is not postponed!

We have had a massive improvement in the cup this season as we have managed to reach the 5th Qual round. We got safely through round 2 and 3 before getting a Premier Division side in the 4th qual and we completely outclassed them and won 2-0. We face Bursaspor away in the next round so hopefully we will get a massive payday.

They have been signed but they wont be given YP tags as I dont think they will be good enough to play anytime soon.

Altay SK - Turkish Second Division - 2016/17

Another heartbreaking Playoff defeat for my youngsters. We didnt have a very good second half of the season and fell away from the title challenge it looked like we would have at one point. We ended up in the playoffs yet again. We got past Eyupspor 5-2 in the quarter final round and then got Bucaspor in the semi final. We lost 3-2 AET after throwing away a 2-0 lead. I'm really gutted so next season I dont want the playoffs I've had enough of them. I want to win the league outright!
